So I rooted with the method sticked in the development center for cdma and now my computer has a virus. Currently paying dell $200 for trying to fix it.

So is there.... anything I can do for you sir?
What else where you doing at the time? No one else has reported any virus from acquiring root the same way as you. Been rooted for months with no problems. Good luck
Are you sure it is a virus? Some antivirus software will think it is tho a false alarm...
The stock Ruu exe 2.17 will throw a warning after it is downloaded tho only cause it was a exe file,...
Doesn't mean a virus or keylogger or anything... I never have gotten a virus off xda or any where else.....
My computer won't open Internet explorer. Services.exe usage is at 100% for cpu its currently my heating source lol. It's a dell xps with 3.2ghz dualcore pentium 4 1gb ram<lol>.

Have you tried to run microsoft security essentials or any other one?
Have you tried to wipe your cache? Worst comes to worst just reinstall your OS...
Why pay Dell just revert your sys back 24 hours and your done

people still pay for services like that?
If your paying for something like that, chances are you've had viruses on your pc well before trying to root.

Sorry m8, it won't be the root process / s-off process which has caused you to get a virus, chances are it could have been there all along, there has been a truckload of people who have done this procedure and none of them have reported a virus.
Maybe a false positive but nothing more.
First things first, call dell and tell them not to come out, $200 for someone to come out and just press restore to an earlier point in time is a joke.
Either rollback yourself, or get malwarebytes, spyware doctor, registry mechanic, ccleaner, hijack this (then analyse results) a decent up to date full antivirus, make sure your windows is up to date, update all drivers, clean out junk and be careful what you do on the net in future, u should be good.
Remove all scanners but your AV when your done.

My question is, why are you rooting your phone and you don't even know how to remove a virus from your computer? And no, it didn't come from rooting your phone. I'm 110% sure that there was something you were doing with your computer aside from rooting, or someone else in your household who has access to your PC.
200 dollars to fix your computer lol. Worst case scenario backup your files and factory reset the computer.
Most likely you could use combofix and malwarebytes to fix the problem.

I actually don't want to be that bold (sometimes it is necessary) but he really is telling the truth. I know how it is to start out and giving props for giving it a go. I know we all have to start out somewhere and XDA is a proper place as all or most members are willing to help you out in anything. ( if you left your dog outside - you might find a member to put him/her in the dog house in the back yard) that is how most of the members are on here. Willing to take the time to help.
Now as your current situation, yes, you did have a problem before OR maybe not. Depending on your current OS and Virus/Malware program. As stated before any program to alter current builds in there database will register as "malware or virus" so maybe you really don't have anything wrong so to speak.
Usually, if it has been in the forums for months we all would have been exposed of any malware etc and would have reported back w/ bad emotions... so no worry about XDA
Not sure what you are running for an OS, or program to protect or I could be more helpful but just letting you know, if you put out a question I'm sure you will get an answer.
Keep it real and they will do so in return

First, can you get into download mode? If so Download the stock att Rom and flash it through odin

no i can't. i can't get into download mode.
the phone is basically 100% unresponsive. it's just turned off and doesn't respond no matter what i try (download mode, etc.).
usb jig? i don't have one but is it worth a shot (buying one)?
Flashing anything for a different device will definitely brick it. I think you're going to have to get it replaced.
If you fire up Odin and plug it in, wait a few mins, hold Vol down and power - does com port on Odin read anything even if the screen is off?

The way you mentioned in your post Look like You have a hard brick your phone. If you cannot get into download mode in any kind of way That means you have brick your phone in a hard way. You will have to return the phone to the Samsung for repair.

If you do manage to recover or get it fixed otherwise... Don't flash zImages at all. The non intl note uses a complete boot.img file containing the zImage, ramdisk, and a header, all packaged together.
That done with... Not sure how flashing just the zImage could have hard bricked unless you flashed over the recovery partition or wherever the bootloader (contains dowload mode) resides.

yeah, ur phone's a paper weight my friend. only debricking service qsload usb will fix it.
I read about this yesterday, supposedly there is a jig setup that will work. I'm not 100%, because I haven't had to do this (knocks on wood), check the forums, someone just did this yesterday. I think I read too that there's JTAG services for it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Haha seems like you went way out of your way to brick your phone. When Odin is throwing up errors you should know something is wrong.
Either way, you should always read up an entire post of a Rom. It usually states exactly what phone it was made for and should only be flashed on that phone model.

Re-reading my post, it looks to me like it boils down to loading the zImage "CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LB1-v5.0-CWM5.zip" that bricked my phone.

Yeah, wrote over recovery partition, and who knows what else. I know from my sprint days, we had to backup Wimax just in case. Some phones are partitioned differently than others, flashing any low level stuff like that might write over a different partition

ok lesson learned. i don't do anything that doesn't specifically call out the AT&T I717 from now on.
thanks everyone. AT&T sent out my replacement phone. looks like it'll be a week or so before i get it though. until then, back to my old dell streak running one of dj_steve's ROMs.
This is what happens on this site. There are many people who are happy to help, but many who like to make you feel like a tool for asking for help. On the other hand, op should have done a lot of research before screwing around with the phone.

You need a computer to go back to bone stock.
It is a hell of a lot easier to use a PC following this.
If you for some reason can't connect to any PC you will have to download around 300mb+ worth of files.
Let me know and I can explain how, not sure if there is a guide for this yet but its simple.

Lol my mistake then
I could've returned it to bone stock. All you had to do was say it. Anyways, the easiest way like others are saying is, to use "Odin" and flash the OEM stuff with the PC.

I would like to know how you did it. My usb connection is very unreliable and it would be good to know how to go to stock if needed.
I think there is a mobile Odin out there or you can download a stock rooted version. I sent the gs2 to tat2messiah in a trade.

I'll post a quick how to with the file, since this question comes up a few random times.
I agree use Mobile Odin or better yet use your PC Odin to re-stock to absolutely new.
And everyone has issues with the USB! Just keep trying it works eventually.

I up and decided I want to jailbreak my ps3 and wanted to know if anyone here knows about it. I have a done some reason and some of what I'm reading says I need to an e3 flasher to do the downgrade necessary to accept custom firmware but I've been reading other sites saying they were able to downgrade without that mod. So what I want to know is can I jailbreak a cech-2001a ps3 slim that is on the latest firmware(4.31) without that piece?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
There's a website that you can look at. I can't remember the name but its like ps3jailbreak or something like that its a forum site like xda and you can go to it with tapatalk. I know mine was unable to be jailbroken even with the e3 flasher, I just happened to have the only model that wasn't possible to do it with any method. Also I'm not sire if there's a jailbreak for the newest firmware yet, my brother said the same people who work on the idevice jailbreaks do the ps3.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using xda premium
I have the first generation of slim ps3 so I'm certain it can be done but that e3 flasher seems to be about the most difficult to use device ever. In every forum I have looked at there is post after post about how the e3 bricked their ps3. I think I'm going to look into buying a stock 3.55 firmware ps3 and jailbreak it. Besides I'll end up spending about the same amount and it will take less time.

Yeah I would just do that, the install for the e3 is very tedious.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using xda premium
Follow the instructions and its not that bad of an install. Problem is finding a legit e3 flasher, there are so many fake ones out there.
Find an e3 flasher without the esata dock and by one seperate. The one that comes with it is crap and you can find a cheaper one thats better.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using xda app-developers app
I still haven't seen a legit one anywhere. People have to rig cardboard and crap to get the thing to fit properly and i think that is what screws everything up. I'll just try to find a 3.55 ps3 and softmod. It.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
why is the e3 flasher needed for if it was possible to jailbreak when geohot made it?
Hi guys
I've had a look around and understand that I'll need to edit the 'build prop' so that my device is recognised as another phone in order to have a more widespread choice of apps.
I want to install Need for Speed most wanted but the application cannot be found in the Play store and installing via the web based Play store is not allowed due to the app not being supported.
It makes me wonder how many other apps I could be missing out on!
Would anyone be able to recommend the changes to make as I don't want to make any mistakes and also how to go about making changes - I know this currently can't be done via a file explorer and probably has to be done via recovery.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

I am guessing that whether stock or rooted, by installing apps from unknown sources, you are betting (praying, might also help) that some nefarious developer out there is not smart enough to leave some "cool" bug on your device.
But I'm not positive by any means, either.
Don't know what OS you're running but both NFS run great on HD2 Ansar 8773 ROM (and in years of sideloading apps I've yet to encounter some mythical '"cool" bug' - even in WM6.5 but least of all in the protected WP7 OS..Android is a different story!)
