[Q] Swap on stock kernel [NEO] - Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Pro

Hello
I used Ramexpander in Ice Cream Pureness because it supported swap. I had no errors during the week, but now i switched to Xperia Ultimate HD and now. My bootloader is locked so obviously i used stock kernel. I thought that swap is depended on the kernel, but now in ultimate hd ram expander says my kernel doesn't support it. It is kinda wierd because i have the exact same kernel as in ICP but now i can't use swap.
but i really liked that i can have multiple apps open and could easily switch between them without the need of reloading them. can someone explain me this? :victory:

It reduces it significantly but these cards can bear a lot of write cycles... your battery or phone will crack first and if the card is starting to die you can tell because it's capacity decreases because of the degradation of cells but it's a long process

That is why i started the post, because i dont know why i can't make swap on same kernel. It is related in some way to the rom itself too.

no...swap has to be pre-enabled on the kernel. Ask the kernel dev about it,or use one with swap.
---------- Post added at 08:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 AM ----------
you can also add it through a flashable zip.

I am on stock and i didnt applied any zip but swap was enabled on other rom but now that i have changed the rom i don't have. Stock sony kernel because my bl is locked

You need zram_start.sh inside system/bin (for stock kernel)for zram to work, see if there is,if not use the one from previous rom..
Inviato da me!

Sirs, have any idea to make stock kernel to be swap support?

The problem is with kernel.
If you are facing the issue, then you are on stock lg gingerbread or rom based on stock gingerbread.
Just use PaoloM70's OC Gingerbread kernel and all problems will be gone.

I think that Franco told on the Kernel topic that the issue will be fixed soon...He will look into it after the weekend

Unstable? Sorry, I have been running with Franco kernels for one month and there is no kernel panics, and any instability whatsoever.
I have this problem too, stock 2.3.3, everytime I connect my phone to pc to tranfer file, I have to restart my phone to mount sd card. The phone doesn't re-mount after disconnect from pc.

[SOLVED] Random Reboots

Heyy xda ppl
i'm on miracle ROM right now and the problem i have is random reboots i have no idea why...their frequency is more right after a reboot
its a pain cuz the memory card has to read everytime and it takes ages
and somehow i feel the miracle ROM has a longer boot time than any of my previous ROMS....the random reboots is a pain pls help me out
cpu is smartassv2 800-245mhz
pls help me out here
Edit: all right the problem was the sd card partition. I have a class 2 sd card and I partitioned it so maybe the read speed was not fast enough for the apps and stuff hence reboots.
I got to know this because I had connected my phone to pc and ran the error checking in properties doing that something happened and partition started acting weird I think it's vanished now (magic ) so then without the partition the phone started working smoothly like hell smoothly
Thanks for all your help guys

Yeah it's buggy..
I got it working by repeatedly pulling the battery. It keeps kernel panicking or freezing at kernel logo.
Reboot from CWM menu never works. It will bootloop once then freeze on kernel logo.
Something is wrong in the ramdisk.
@Yair - Did you alter memory / partition settings at all?

Issue with Kryllos V7B

I can't post in Developers section so I'll have to ask here.
I'm on Krylosv7b.jb.xxmb4, kernal 3.0.31-978827
First few days this ran fine, albeit a little slow, Now i'm having a few issues
1. Phone signal, both wireless and provider, being low or dropping.
2. Battery life is none existent, needing charging at least once a day (I don't use the phone lots, and turn data off when not using it)
3. Screen doesn't always appear. I press power/home button for unlock and all I get is a blank screen with a bit of fuzzyness. By the sound I can unlock it and re-lock it. At first I was rebooting the phone by either pulling the battery, or unlocking and holding the power button. However I've since discovered if i re-lock it and leave for 5 mins, I can then unlock with a working screen. No good for answering the phone.
ALL your problems will by solved if you instal xxmc8 kernel
So:
xxmb4+v7b+xxmc8 kernel and full wipe. Then you will get fast, stable and battery friendly rom. I dont have ANY problems in this config , even ram managment problem is fixed...(I dont see it now)

ok, my mistake on post, Where can I get the mc8 kernel? Not sure what file to look for and i've hunted these forums and can't actually find a thread showing where to get the kernal, just rom's that say they need it.
Ignore me, I got the kernel already, I was just using odin wrong, I'd not put phone into download
any kernel base MB4 / MC8 with swap kernel support ?
1 day after install of MC8 Kernel.
Battery has used 50%. On MB4 it needed charging 2 times a day.
Phone signal and wireless signal so far is better.
Speed has increased, and no lag at unlock.
Ahh noooo. Phone needed charging today, 30% left
but that was after 2 days, and the black unlock screen bug hasn't re-occurred.

I have seen the tweaks provided in the zip.
But, sadly more than half of them won't work.
It puts wrong values to files, and even to some files that are not present.
I recommend you not to try this tweak.
To tweak CPU, use apps like No Frills CPU Control etc.
To swap RAM, use RAMEXPANDER.
I will be writing my own tweaks for this kernel shortly.
And since, as you say, the kernel is trending in Indonesia, do remind that the kernel is only for Samsung Galaxy Star GT-S5282.
Cheers
thanks bro. . . .i deleted those files from the tweak on my system..but can i use ram manager pro to swap ram bro?.?. .is it really a swap ram?.?or a swap on cache?.??. .

Its a framebuffer issue (in kernel ofcourse). Well, I have never faced such issues, both on stock and CyanogenMod.
I use the latest XXANAF3 firmware.
Samsung has provided kernel source based on old firmwares, which when compiled and flashed on newer firmwares (as I said earlier, I was on latest stock), results in a softbrick.
However, looking at this post, it shows that the kernel compiled from source and flashed on older firmwares had no such issues.
We did got around that issue, thanks to TeamRegular, and got a bootable kernel on the latest firmwares.
Luckily, that kernel did boot on older firmwares, but at the cost of 'that framebuffer issue'.
On a side note, stock kernel from old firmwares wont boot on newer ones, and the ones from new firmwares wont boot on old.
And again, I think the issue is present only in older firmwares. Most of the stock based ROMs are based on older firmwares.
So what?
Yeah Samsung did make changes to kernel (source) but never published them.
So nothing much I can do, I can make a separate versions for both old and new firmwares (with no guarantees that the issue will be fixed), but that will add to it being more complex.
