[Q] Issues installing gaps on Paranoid Android 2.9.9 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I installed Paranoid Android 2.9.9 from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765185
I installed the rom and also
Flash Bluesleep Fix:
Options Chooser
The roms starts withouth gapps , and using the option chooser wont install them ,
I dont know if it s because og my clockwork recovery version, I had a 5.0 something and reading I moved to a 6.0.15
when I run the gapps installation file Options_Chooser_JB_Version_4_Olympus gives me status 0 at the end
somtimes when I reboot the romm I get the signed (updating andrioid ) and the sign counts like its installing the apps, and in fact some of them get installed like the not google ones, but cant get to install the playstore or the gmail one.
the only thing that I want is to be able to get netflix to install it on my lcd, didnt know it was that difficult. any clue ?

did you try wipe dalvik and cache, maybe a factory reset prior flashing gapps, and then clean dalvik and cache would help , somewhere ive read that a X2 flash rom X2 flash gapps X2 wipes could do the trick
sent from the gray stuff inside my skull

had the exact same issue ! >>>follow those steps and you will have a 100% workin Paranoid<<<
1st : do you try coming from another ROM ? Did you wipe/Fresh, or you are actually updating ?
2nd : th3bill actually are working to make the option chooser smaller since it is too big for our atrix system partition
3rd : just go to paranoid thread and see what ive done if you absolutely want that option chooser to work (NOT RECOMMENDED as it cause issues)
Workaround that really works no problem : go to recovery now that you have a fully working paranoid 2.9.9 that dont have any gapps and flash without wiping everything (that will NOT erase your app.. Just the ROM)
Reboot into Recovery
THEN :
Recovery>wipe CACHE partition
Recovery>advance>wipe dalvik cache (then go back)
Recovery>mounts&storage>format /system
Recovery>mounts&storage>format /preinstall (then go back)
Recovery>instal from sd card (external or internal, as you wish) and isntall Paranoid 2.9.9
>>>DONT REBOOT<<< at the end of aroma installer (uncheck the lil dot) then press finish (that will put you back in recovery)
back to recovery, go to advance again>fix permission
THEN,
Flash blusleep fix
flash Epinter's gapps (that will be FULLY compatible)
Let me know if you made it work
P.s.I had once, some issue with the playstore (i didnt wipe clean since 2.5.2) Force closing at the boot of the ROM and then, was unable to open at all !
If it happens on you, just go to system settings inside the rom>application>google playstore>erase Data>uninstall updates>reboot, it shoud do the trick
Plz, Hit the tanks button if i helped you

Thanks sathelate for this tutorial.
I've tried a number of times to install this ROM without success. The last time my power button stopped working.
Do I need to run the Aroma prep before install?

nah, you need to flash aroma prep only once if you didn't switch recovery
Ouch :S is your power button ok ?! :S
Flash romracer recovery wich you can use capacituve button (menu:down,Home:up,Back:back,Search:enter) (is you change recovery, you will need to flash aroma prep back, then restart recovery before flashing
Let me know

It worked thanks for your tutorial, now I'm trying to run Netflix, you know off there is any setting to set, cause I open the app and close immediately, I'm not alter to even login or anything, just black screen and I get back to the menu, any clue on this?

I really want to make this to work, soo, let me know if you find anything on your side, and ill let you know on mine

I had the same problem, just installed gapps frontera Epinter and that's it. Check the post of the Paranoid ROM theres a user that post those gapps.
Hope you can solve it. I just did

The power button behaviour has become very random and strange.
With the successful insatll of this rom I had to install "Button Remap apk" which set the search button to lock screen and longer press brings up the power button menu of reboot etc.
However with this rom the music player and the one I installed did not recognise a whole batch of a particular music file. So I went into recovery to restore a previous CM7 backup and hey presto the power button worked when selecting options. So I did the restore. The power button worked a couple of times then nothing. And the "Button Remap app" dosen't work in CM7.
I think the Aroma prep was the culprit.

LG P500 Screen blacks out

My phone's rooted. I've read almost every thread trying to resolve my problem. I restored it to stock firmware, tried overclocking it and still no luck of resolving my screen from blacking out and leaving just the buttons lighting up. Like the other thread, i just pull out my battery to fix things but it's quite irritating to do that everytime. It happens almost 5 times a day at a random time. Can someone please help me resolve this? I'm not using any custom rom or anything.

I think this is only a software problem; try flashing miks rom if you want stability, or adfad's for new features. I have not got this bug on nightly6 but the rom isnt fully working
I'm just using a stock firmware from a thread here on how to restore to stock firmware without kdz update. I'm a noob to android so i don't know how to put any ROM yet.
If you use stockROM Froyo (2.2.X) your problem could be solve with an update to Gingerbread (2.3.3). Other causes are poor quality microsd or modified kernel (i.e. Unofficial CM)

For stockROM I use KDZ Firmware Updater, for custom ROMs you need root and install a custom recovery, then, you can install any custom ROM.

As your phone is rooted..
1. install ROM manager from market and install recovery from it... make sure you select the correct phone
2. DO NOT CHOOSE TO BOOT INTO RECOVERY VIA ROM MANAGER OR YOUR PHONE WILL GET STUCK...
3. If you are on gingerbread then you are using new baseband otherwise on froyo its old..
4. go to optimus one development section and choose the stable ROM according to your baseband..
5 download it and place it on sd card
6. Also download GAAPS and place it on sd card
7. turn off the phone and boot into recovery by holding home+ volume down+ power and hold then until you see recovery
8. use volume keys to navigate in recovery, back to go back and menu key to make selection
9. now wipe data/ factory reset,
wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats..(last two are under advanced options)
also go to mount and storage and format system if you want perfectly clean install
10. now choose install zip from sd card and choose the ROM you downloaded... let it complete and after that reboot phone
11. first boot will take time.. don't panic.. after it is started again boot into recovery and install GAAPS to get market and other google apps.. reboot and you are ready to go..
NOTE:- NEVER FLASH 2 ZIPS WITHOUT REBOOTING
NEVER DO FACTORY RESET FROM PHONE WHILE USING CUSTOM ROM.. DO IT FROM RECOVERY..
I hope this will do..

[Q] Installing a ROM for the first time - PACman ROM (for 5.0)

I will be getting a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 tomorrow and I am interested in installing the PACMAN ROM
However, the instructions are not clear for me since I am new to all this. I've downloaded the roms, gapps and kernal and now the instructions say to:
'Put the files on your device
Reboot into recovery
Wipe dalvik cache
Install the zips (or do adb sideload if you want)
Reboot'
Since I have no experience with android devices, I am not sure how to do these steps. I've tried searching on Youtube but there aren't any tutorials for SGP's. I am aware that I need to do a full wipe since I am going from GB to JB (so I need to delete data, dalvik, system and dbdata). It also says to do a backup if anything goes wrong, which I am not too sure how to do as well.
If someone could explain these instructions clearly to me, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

put your device in download mode (hold down power and volume down) and flash entropy's kernel with odin.
then you will have clockworkmod recovery, which you can boot into by holding power and volume up.
in clockworkmod, you can make a backup, wipe data, and install the rest of the stuff.
you could even do all of this without ever booting up the stock rom.
This is what I do/did...
I used this tutorial to flash CWM and root
http://m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-android-2-3-6-root-clockworkmod-recovery-116474/
Download SuperOneClick and
Download Odin. Follow tutorial.
Odin can be used to flash ROMs or kernels and to flash CWM.
Download the Pacman ROM and a kernel and put it on your External SD card.
Use ROM Manager from the play store to reboot into Recovery mode (easiest way) or volume up and power button at the same time as the Samsung flashes after you first boot your device.
From recovery mode you can wipe dalvik cache etc, but if this is a new device, you shouldn't have to factory reset or wipe cache (I think) If you're buying a used device, wipe and reset.
You're in recovery mode still, navigate to-
"Load zip from external SD card" and select it. Navigate to the Pacman zip and select it.
You navigate using the volume up and down buttons and select using the power button.
Navigate back to main screen in recovery mode and select Reboot System.
Do the same thing to flash a kernel. If the kernel has clockwork mod integrated, load the kernel first.
I use Xplore to move files around, it's quick and easy.
The reason ppl tell you to back up any data is, they have data they want to keep. If this is a new device, you don't have anything worth saving, such as contacts apps etc.

After I flashed the kernel, it said 'PASS' on the Odin screen but now my device keeps rebooting, and it won't stop! D:
I can enter CWM Recovery, and I tried wiping data/factory reset and I've wiped cached partition but it still keeps rebooting.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know! I've googled this problem for 3 hours but haven't found a solution
what exactly did you do in cwm?
did you install pac rom?
if not, try installing (using install zip from sdcard) it directly over gb, after doing a full wipe.
also install gapps the same way

I followed instructions on this website;
m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-android-2-3-6-root-clockworkmod-recovery-116474/
(I can't post links, but its the website that HOG1 posted above)
I got up to step 7, but my device kept rebooting after that. So I went in CWM recovery by holding POWER and UP buttons and wiped my data and cache but it still kept rebooting.
And I can't flash any roms since I still haven't rooted the device. I couldn't use entropy's kernel because I have an INTL Galaxy Player.

Would that work, even though I haven't rooted my device yet? Since I haven't done the steps under 'Rooting the Galaxy Player 5.0' on the link HG1 sent.
oh you have an intl device. in that case, you'll have to install cm9 first, power down, boot up into recovery and install pac rom
you dont have to be rooted for this

Okay, but in the CM9 thread the first thing it says for installation is 'Make sure your device is ROOTED' and mine is not - so are you sure it will work? I just don't want to brick my device or anything, just got it today xD
to install cm9, boot into recovery, and go to mounts and storage, then select the mount usb storage (connect your usb cable to your computer first)
then copy a cm9 rom zip over (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957)
you should be fine
if something fails for some reason, try installing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144 via odin (put your device in dl mode).
this is a rooted stock rom

yup, dont forget to wipe data, cache, dalvik, (look under mounts and storage) system, and dbdata (or datadata)
All this INTL and US device stuff just throws wrenches into everything. The link I posted says it's for INTL and US devices. Apparently not the case.
I have intl kernel on my US device and it works fine, not sure why the reverse isn't true. Weird.
I use the INTL kernel because I like the governors choices.

Yeah it sucks that Samsung made different devices for different regions...Makes no sense..
But yeah, I installed CM9 and when I selected to reboot my phone from the actual ROM it said 'Rebooting...' and now its been like this for 30mins or so... :| I guess I'll have to wait for the battery to drain or something, but as soon as it does I'll wipe data, etc and install PACMAN with the new kernel and gapps. Sucks that you can't take the battery out the phone, I don't think the phone is actually gonna reboot.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, I JUST SAW ONLINE THAT YOU CAN SWITCH IT OFF BY HOLDING DOWN THE POWER BUTTON AND HOME BUTTON...Yeah I'm totally new to Android and Samsung xD
Or you could hold the power and volume up buttons to go into Recovery mode and reboot from there.

[Q] How do you make the Play store show up after installing Gapps?

I installed gapps-2013-03-01 from here http://goo.im/gapps on CM10.1 from here http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=fascinatemtd following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070, letting the phone boot after CM installation, but no apps show up. How do I make the Play Store/Market show up?
It looks like nobody knows. What do I do now? I need Google Apps to make this phone worth using...
What you do mean letting the phone boot after CM installation? Just install CM10.1 and flash Gapps directly after and then boot the phone. If it still doesn't show up then something went wrong, and you might need to start fresh from Odin.
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
Reboot back into recovery,, choose that zip to install,, and then reboot ROM when finished,,,
With cm10.1 you may have to enable in developer options,, the advanced reboot menu,,
You may also have to enable developer options,,,
In "about phone" scroll down to "build number “ then tap repeatedly about 7-10 times till it says you've enabled it
If none of that works,,, from powered off do "3 finger boot" into recover and continue
.

I tried installing gapps right after the OS, and I got a bunch of force closes and it was frozen at the lock screen indefinitely. I've tried starting fresh from Odin and redoing the entire installation, with the same results.
That's the gapps version I've been trying to use Crawshayi, and it doesn't do anything. I also tried gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and that one didn't work either. I don't have any problems with the 3-finger recovery booting.
Thanks for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. Any other ideas?
Maybe try one these gapps

This one uses the aroma installer,,, you get to choose which individual apps to install,,, very nice

you should install the correct gapps for your rom.

I just tried flashing both of those zips (I had to google the second one because that link wanted a site referral), and still nothing's showing up.
Well, i suggest you boot to recovery,,, do a "wipe data/factory reset"
Then, while still in recovery, flash the original gapps (jb - 20130301)
This is the method for gapps install::
:: Install zip from sdcard
:: Choose zip from sdcard
:: scroll to gapps file/select
:: confirm yes to install
:: reboot system

Well if you don't want to try that again,,, do a factory reset/data wipe, reinstall ROM of choice and reinstall the newest gapps zip

I've done this already, three times. I doubt a fourth time will change anything.
Only thing else i can say is to odin back to eh03 and back up to cm10.1,,, following the steps in section 4 exactly as listed (print it out and cross off list as you go along) so you don't miss anything or add any unnecessary steps..
Something somewhere is not right with installation..

Done, and still no play store.
Try a different sd card if possible and/or usb cable. If either of those are malfunctioning it would cause strange issues like this.

Stuck at boot animation after flashing CM 11 ROM

Hi,
I was running BeanStalk-4.4.270 03/18/14 by zymphad. Im not sure what the kernel was.
I tried flashing the ROM by ronasimi in this thread.
The ROM that i picked was cm-11-20140817-UNOFFICIAL-geeb & the kernel was gbx-kernel-lights-CM11.0-CAF.zip. Apart from this i picked the Google Stock package of PA GApps from here.
For flashing i did the following :-
1. backed up all my apps using TB from BeanStalk.
2. loaded the ROM, the kernel & GApps zip files into a folder on my sdcard.
3. rebooted into recovery(TWRP 2.6.xx), backed up my original ROM and lined up all the three flashable zips and flashed them. (The flash was successful)
4. Then i rebooted into system. But after reaching the home screen, i was getting errors "Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped" & "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". I remembered it might be because i forgot to wipe dalvik & cache.
5. I again rebooted into recovery, wiped dalvik & system cache and tried booting into system. It was still giving the same issues.
6. I tried restoring my old ROM's backup. Surprisingly even that wouldn't solve the issue.
7. So i again flashed the CM11 ROMs. But this time, the boot process is getting stuck at the boot animation.
My Qs are as follows:-
1. Did i miss anything or do something that is not recommended (or maybe even dangerous)?
2. What should be my next step in resolving this issue?
Any help appreciated.

I tried flashing using TWRP but the flash failed. then I saw the video and thought of giving philz touch cwm a try. it worked like a charm. Thanks a lot for the help. For kernel I flashed gprojx-kernel-lights-CM11.0-CAF-20140414.zip. Everything seems to be working now. Only thing is that I can't seem to turn off NFC. Every time I deselect the check box, go somewhere else and come back, the NFC check box is already checked.
Any tips on that? It's eating up my battery

Awesome! Thanks a lot man.
One last Q p)- I spent almost 30mins combing through settings but I couldn't find a 3G/2G switch. Is it hidden somewhere or it doesn't exist yet in CM11?

[Q] Rooted with Siyah, wanting to install CM, what next?

Hi all,
I really tried to learn everything about rooting and flashing and custom ROM, and I am already busy all day, but I still can't get out of all the technological abracadabra, and other existing XDA topics I didn't know if they worked for me too, it would be very awful if I brick it because I didn't understand something small.
I may seem a bit lazy, but could someone please help me in not too technological language and provide me with the correct links to install?
So I have an i9100 second hand. The battery is empty really quick and gets very hot sometimes, and I read that this could be changed by installing custom firmware, like cyanogenmod.
I already have installed Siyah. My current version is Android 4.1.2.
I read things about installing custom recovery or something, but there are no important data on my phone yet, so I assume this is not applicable for me?
Can you install GApps after installing cyanogenmod? Except Google play, Maps and Youtube I don't need/want any other applications I think.
So can anybody provide me with a (customized) step plan what to do to install the best fitting version of cyanogen mod?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi there,
Siyah kernel already comes with custom recovery, however, it is out of date now and will not install kitkat roms. You will need to install a kitkat kernel first before installing the kitkat rom.
Yes, you can install gapps after installing cyanogenmod, have a look in the xda forums for modular gapp packages since you don't want some google bloat ware. However, the latest cyanogenmod 11 has a small system partition and will require you to install small gapp packages such as the 20140105 gapps. Search up gapps package on google and click the cyanogenmod link.
Now to install cyanogenmod (I chose cyanogenmod 11 m9 snapshot):
1. Download cyanogenmod 11 m9 snapshot .zip file (should be at cyanogenmod website)
2. Download modular gapps package, but I strongly recommend to install 20140105 gapps package by cyanogenmod
3. Download kitkat compatible kernel (I recommend downloading Pedestre's apolo kernel)
4. Put them all on your phone
Now reboot into recovery with this button combination, hold: (vol+, power, home)
5. Install .zip --> internal sd card (or sd card 0, or wherever you put the zips in) --> select kernel zip
6. Reboot your phone
7. You will notice your phone will not boot into rom, that's ok since it will automatically boot back into the new recovery
8. In the new recovery: press wipe/clear, and swipe the bar to do the factory reset and wipe caches
9. Install cyanogenmod zip
10. Install gapps zip
11. Reboot your phone
12. If your phone doesn't bootloop or crash, you're all good. Note: first boot will take a while, be patient!

Many many thanks!
Only 2 questions; which pedestre apolo kernel do I have to download? There are a lot of version circulating it seems to me. And it doesn't matter that I already don't have a genuine kernel anymore?
And what do you mean with step 4? To me this step seems that I have to put CM, gapps and a new kernel in once (via reboot/download modus > Odin I guess?), but in later steps you say that I have to do those step by step.

Just follow This simple steps.
You are done
First download all the necessary zips(ROM,gapps, recovery) and copy them on your phone's external SD card and follow the procedure.

The apolo kernel you need to download is v7.1 for kitkat. It doesn't matter that you won't have the genuine kernel as it won't really affect your phone except improving battery life and performance.
What I meant with step 4 is to put the files onto your phone usng your computer (using windows explorer, like how you transfer files to other USB devices) while your phone is still on the operating system. After that (the following steps), you must install them in the particular order that I explained it in using your phones recovery software.
Hope this answers your questions, gsstudios
Hi, thanks for replying, but I am stuck on point 4/5
I finally found some time to work on it, so I downloaded the KitKat compatible kernel, the gapps and de CM 11m9.
They were in my download folder on the computer, and then I just copied those three .zip files to the internal memory.
Then I connected my phone to the computer with a USB cable, and I put the phone into recovery mode. But when I did that, the computer stopped to recognize the phone as an external disk, so I couldn't enter it anymore.
So what did I do wrong? (putting the files on my external SD didn't help either) And how do I install those zips, just unpack them if I solved the problem mentioned above?

Once you put everything on your internal storage you don't need your computer anymore.
In recovery you must tap on "install zip". Navigate to your location where you put everything.
First you install the kitkat kernel.
Afterwards you go back and tap on advanced, there you have to tap "reboot recovery"
You should see another recovery now.
Now you install your custom rom using "install zip", afterwards you install the gapps package.
When you are done with installing everything it's a good idea to wipe data and dalvik cache, in case you didn't do before.
At last you simply tap reboot.
Don't be afraid if booting takes more time than usual, it'll take longer the first time you boot.

How long is long (for after the kitkat kernel reboot)? I have a black screen now for more than 2 hours after I hit 'reboot', and after 5 minutes I tried to put it on again with just hitting the power button for 2 seconds (I didn't read that it could take a while) but nothing changed.
It had 90% battery when I started. Because I was afraid it was running out of battery I plugged it to the power grid. My phone was and is warm, so I assume it was stil working on something.

Okay sry I should have specified myself when saying it takes a while.
That's Max 5 minutes. So your phone seems to be stuck in Boot loop.
Cause for this is either you didn't wipe everything before flashing - try wiping again and reboot, or you flashed the wrong file for your phone.
I'll make it easy, assuming your phone model is gt-i9100.

So I did the kitkat install after wiping all user data and dalvik cache (and accidentally the normal cache too).
I rebooted it via advanced > reboot recovery. It rebooted within 10 seconds.
Then I installed the zips (CM and Gapps. To be honest: I installed the gapps the first replyer to this thread mentioned: 20140105)
And I wiped all user data and dalvik cache.
Should I now do:
1: advanced > reboot recovery
or 2: reboot system now (on the first screen you see when you're in recovery)
And then it should start up until I see the screen with apps, time and those things I think?

If you were successful i highly recommend to make a nandroid backup in recovery.
If you ever have problems booting your phone, you can restore this backup via recovery.
With titanium backup you can backup your apps and their data.
