my 3d is stuck at the htc screen and just keeps restarting. like if the bootloader won't load. i tried flashing superwipe then going to a nandroid backup. and tried flashing superwipe and going to a sense rom. any help?
im hboot 1.58
and s-on
Not sure if your going to like the answer. This happened to me, boots to the HTC screen and reboots....over and over and over...Problem is, I didn't do anything for the loop to happen. Not rooted, nothing...phone just acting quirky couple days ago and I restarted the phone...BAM...HTC loop...
Thanks to these guys....YOU GENIUSES!!! I have my phone back, but...its rooted, bootloader unlocked, and S-ON. If you follow this thread to the tee....you'll be back in action http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438 unless you have insurance. Have you tried, with the phone off, pressing the power button and holding down the down button to boot to the bootloader, then fastboot, and tried the factory reset? I did, but it didn't work for me....maybe it will for you....if not, that thread will help.
Thanks Guys, you never cease to amaze me with your knowledge.
If you do end up rooting and stay S-ON MeanRom ICS 2.6 works ...works wonderfully!!!
Try not flashing a superwipe and making sure smartflash is on in 4-ext if thats what you're using. Then just wipe your data using the wipe option and flash a sense ROM.
If you're s-on you have to make sure to flash the boot.IMG (the boot.IMG is the kernel and s-on can't flash to the boot partition) through fastboot because 4ext smartflash can mess up sometimes.

Did you wipe all the way? Also what is your software 2.17 or 2.08 ? Did you fastboot boot recovery.img when you flashed?

You need to flash boot.img/kernel using fastboot or Flash image GUI or else you will face issues if the ROM uses kernel other than your current one.
This is the limitation of HTC unlock method (S-ON)

I flashed the boot.img using fastboot as you suggested. Now the phone is stuck in an endless loop between powering off and the HTC startup logo.
It appears that I am getting closer to fixing the problem but I am still stuck. Can you help further please?
Thanks again!

I did wipe all the way. How do I tell whether I have 2.08 or 2.17. if the phone not able to start up?
I flashed boot.img using fastboot. I just realized that the bootloader when doing and Hboot tries to load the image indicates no image or wrong image.
I am either missing a step or did something wrong.
Please help!
did you make a backup of Infected before you flashed?
When you say you installed Warm did you install and actually get it fully booted and set up your home screens and all that and it only stuck on the first reboot after? or was it right after you flashed warm?
Really if you made a backup of infected or what you were running before you should be able to restore that via recovery then boot up normal. Then use FlashImageGUI to flash the kernel needed for Warm, then reboot into recovery mode and flash the other portion of the Rom from the custom recovery.
Unfortunately, I did not back up Infected or other previous roms. I didn't know that I should, I only backed up my apps using Titanium. I now know better.
Still stuck in loop mode. I have been searching the forums for some possible solutions but so far nothing has worked.
I am up the creek without a paddle...
kongfooey said:
I used Titanium Backup to back up apps etc. is that the same as backing up the rom (Infected)?
If I had the backup how do I recover using recovery? I have been reading other posts in the forum and have tried some of the suggestions. I wiped the data and cache.

na TiBackup isn't the same as backing up the Rom itself.
Full backups are done from within the custom recovery...
the boot.img you pushed via fastboot earlier. where did you get it from?
Silly me... I realized that Titanium backup was not the correct backup after I posted.
I took the image from the Warm zip file. I initially thought the problem was fixed until I realized that the phone is in an endless loop...
Still looping

well to be honest I would just go back and start form scratch at this point since pushing the kernel via fastboot somehow didn't take for you nor did clearing cache's after the fact.
after pushing the kernel via fastboot, have you tried doing that again, and then going into recovery and flashing the rom again? If that doesn't work you might as well just go back to stock and push stock kernel flash stock rooted OTA, boot up, and use FlashImageGUI to push the Warm kernel then go back to flashing the Warm rom in recovery...
really before pushing the stock kernel if you wanna test to see if your initial push of Warm kernel even took fully just fully wipe data and try flashing infected again in recovery. If it boots fine then you know your fastboot push didn't take before to begin with...
Edit:
before i even really get more into this. does Warm even use another kernel beside the stock one? If they dont then all of this could of resulted from a bad download of the rom itself being flashed...
Sgt. Slaughter, I salute you...
I played around with your suggestions. Got it working... I flashed a different boot.img and it solved the problem. I may have gotten a bad Warm rom...
Thanks again!!!
Note: if you took/installed the latest update (2.17.651.5) you won't be able to use roms based off earlier firmware/kernels (ie 2.08.651.2 or 651.3) b/c of kernel differences (I think I've read that somewhere).
I believe Warmtwopointthree and Infected are not using the latest base/kernel.
Edit: saw you posted right before me. So what kernel/boot.img did you use?

Nice good to hear. Fact you had your phone even semi-booting makes solving anything wrong with it usually trial and error and ends up not being so bad to fix...
I used boot.img from OTXE Titan HD ODEXed New Beats!
I need to educate myself a bit more about the differences between kernel and .imgs etc...
Thanks for your response. I greatly appreciate!!
I'm having a very similar issue, I rooted my Evo using Revolutionary and installed CW Recovery and everything was fine so I tried installing ZR3D and part way through the install, my phone turned off and now it wont get past the HTC boot screen. I went into CW Recovery but nothing is working, no matter what option I choose [even Turn off phone or reboot] it gives me the CW logo but nothing happens.
I have HBOOT 1.49.1107 with S-Off
Try reflashing your recovery threw hboot.

Can you boot into Fast boot? If so, try connecting your phone to a computer and flashing a recovery through there. Then try to install the ROM.

ok so i was running leedroid 5.4 with leedroids kernel, on my evo 3d GSM with hboot .0011 Unlocked and S-ON.....things were fine untill i tried to flash some other roms like shooterbeats and infected eternity rom, i was not able to get past the boot logo on both of those roms so i thought maybe it has something to do with my s-on....so i decided to make it s-off....after reading s_superman's thread for about 2 hours on how to downgrade hboot to .007 or 8 and unlock using revolutionary....i gave it a go, and did so sucessfully NOW MY HBOOT IS .007 with S-OFF using revolutionary and CWM but i am not able to FLASH ANY ROMz ON some roms my phone hangs on BOOT logo, and on some roms it restarts after LOGO appears........its really frustrating after so much hard work ,,,what i get in return is this...feel like throwin it outta window....ANY HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED ON HOW TO RESOLVE THIS issue?
now in recovery it shows "revolutionary HBOOT 1.49.1107 S-OFF RL"
well fortunately for you, sir, all is not lost....
flash twrp recovery 1.1.1.... just to get a start.
i have never had one single issue with twrp 1.1.1. if you are s-off, you can now flash kernels through recovery.
quick recap, flash twrp 1.1.1, reflash ROM, and kernel. both of which from recovery. if you still have booting issues, flash the kernel through adb.
do that, then come back and we'll go from there.

Hey guys and girls and maybe other mutant human-like things i may not know about on xda,
I have a HUUUGE problem. Whenever I flash a ROM that is Sense 3.6 or some versions of Sense 4.0, my phone WILL (somewhat) successfully boot the rom to the home screen only displaying a background and notification bar. No icons or dock. Just a background and the notification bar for 2 seconds, then freezes, then it reboots. It then reboots with the same fate. Blank home screen, freeze, reboot. Here's the ROM I want to flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634807
Information about my phone:
HTC EVO 3D CDMA
HBOOT 1.50
What recovery are you using? I've been using 4ext and when I wipe I use the format options. No superwipe. I have yet to see a Rom not boot. I'm 1.50 S- on as well.

UPDATE
I HAVE tried pulling the battery, same thing. But when I pulled the battery and rebooted one time I got to the lock screen.
I am using 4-ext recovery.
I AM S-ON
When I format I just tap Factory Reset. Also I tried to flash the ROM while using another custom ROM, but I Factory Reset first.
Format system as well along with the caches.

Okay thx for quick replies but should I:
1. Wipe Dalvik cache and cache with rom installed already?
OR
2. Wipe System, Data, Boot, caches, and re-flash?
Go with option 2.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
I will do so and reply with information.
I just went into the recovery to see what I normally do. I select the option to format all partitions (except SD) and that takes care of it.
Did a superwipe to be sure and I am now flashing the rom so it will be like 15 to 20 minutes.
DAAAAAAAAAANNNNGGGIITTTTTTT!!!!!
Didn't work. Same result. Only this time I'm even more peeved off.
Try the option to format all except SD near the bottom of the wipe list. Don't run the superwipe. I stopped using it because I had issues with boot loops a while back so I do all formatting manually. Anyway, just use that option and try it. Also, what rom are you trying to flash. I can try it here as well.

This is a very easy to fix problem. You just need the firmware - Any true 3.0 linux kernel (which is included in Android 4.0) cannot boot or run well without the adsp.img.
Download this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lpx3nn7kjj2s3kq/PG86IMG.zip
Remove everything from it but adsp.img. Place it on the root of your sd card and go into bootloader. Confirm the flash.
Now you'll be on the new firmware without any of the nasty side effects that everyone is having with VM firmware.
Quick question, will this remove all data from phone and remove my unlock from the boot loader?
That's normal, u need the anthrax firmware test kernel or s-off. I had the same problem. I achieved s-off using the wire method on unlimited.io and can load any ics Rom and kernel and still have h-boot 1.5

Ignore the other replies. The way I suggested is probably the best way to go about it. (Couldn't really think of a way to say this without coming off as a jerk)
You can't flash this without being S-Off. You shouldn't be S-On though since we have S-Off for HBOOT 1.5.
(S-Off gives your phone more freedom, like being able to flash kernels in recovery and flash unnofficial firmwares like this one)
To get Hboot 1.50 S-off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585846
After you are S-Off, flash the firmware with everything but adsp.img like I said before. No data will be lost from your phone, but keep in mind that you should've wiped data before flashing a Sense 3.6/4.0 ROM anyway.
After flashing firmware, go into recovery and flash your desired Sense 3.6/4.0 ROM. When you boot up and the dust clears, you should hopefully be running it without issues.
P.S. Send me a PM if you have more issues or questions. I rarely follow threads I post in.

The only exception is flashing Chad Goodman's anthrax kernel for ICS, but then you lose 3D and USB. Just bite the bullet and either downgrade to 1.4 so you can s-off or follow the new method for 1.5. Trust me, I kept doing all these workarounds for the longest time to get around my 1.5 s-on, and life got so much easier once I downgraded.
I heard that I may have to update the kernel on my EVO 3d with HBOOT-1.5 S-on. I have fully wiped my phone a couple of times and reinstalled with no success. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You have to flash the kernel for MeanRom ICS, since it can't use the stock GB kernel. I used Flash Image GUI(in the Play Store).
1) Open Flash Image GUI and go to your Mean Rom zip to flash the kernel.
2) Boot into recovery from Flash Image GUI.
3) Flash Mean Rom ICS and reboot.
Check out this video.

There are other ways of course like going to S-off, but since you are S-on, this should work.

What kernel did you end up going with?
get 4ext recovery, it has smart flash so you won't be having to use guiflash or fastboot.. and boot loops are common with 1.5 hboot
For the future i would recomend installing 4ext recovery its a recovery biult for evo 3d on s-on. It lets you upload difrent roms. You could by that app at the playstore. You shold really check it out.
OK here's what I have have/have done:
HBOOT 1.50, S-ON
I used fastboot to flash 4ext 1.0.0.5 RC5 to the recovery so I wouldn't have to fastboot every time.
I also flashed "AnthraX-htcleak-rls1.zip" (within 4ext) which supposedly fixes reboot loops.
I would perform a "factory wipe" then turn on SmartFlash and then flash an ICS ROM (MeanROM 2.4, Clean ROM ICS RC2, Derp ROM BDM4.1, viperROM B3) and they all rebooted in one of three ways: as soon as I went to unlock, after sitting on the lock screen for about 5 seconds, or without the lock screen ever loading.
I got CleanROM Reborn (gingerbread) to load and I'm using that for now.

First off, doing a factory wipe ins't enough generally. Grab superwipe from the first post of MeanROM ICS and flash that first. Do it multiple times to make sure everything gets clean. Then flash the ROM, and finally the AnthraX kernel.
1. superwipe
2. flash ROM
3. flash kernel
It your still have issues after this then you need to get your 3D s-off. Some just have trouble properly flashing the kernel with s-on on an ICS ROM

OK, so here's what I ended up doing to get it to work:
Unlock the bootloader with the HTC tool
Flash the recovery using fastboot.exe with 4EXT 1.0.0.5 RC5 (I had actually downloaded this on my phone prio to doing anything so I had the zip file with the .img file in it)
Boot in to 4EXT recovery and turn on SmartFlash
Flash the superwipe zip first
Flash the ICS ROM (in this case MeanROM)
Flash the Anthrax zip file
Reboot the phone and let it go through the setup and it was all set!
So the most frustrating part was unlocking the bootloader, because I misread some instructions at first, and it took me a while to realize I could flash 4EXT to recovery to I wouldn't have to keep booting to it through my PC, but it all worked out in the end. I'm now running ICS on my phone and it was still less of a headache than waiting for Sprint.
A lot has changed in the last year and a half or so since I rooted my EVO 4G. Thanks everyone!
Hi, I have an HTC EVO 3D with HBOOT 1.53.0007 UNLOCKED S-ON [GSM] I was running the Viper3D rom sense 4 r330 with no problems. I recently decided to flash back an older version using 4ext. Now, everytime I finish flashing r284, my phone always boots into 4ext recovery saying "4EXT SmartFlash is currently set to update your boot partition on next system start. Is this wanted or should it be removed? Remove SmartFlash?" and I press the no button. Then I try to reboot, but it goes back to 4ext. Am I doing something wrong? I know it's probably a bit late, and I do hope you've got the issue sorted, but did you select the option to do a full wipe before the installation of Viper3D? It should have the option in Aroma to do that.
The only other thing that I can suggest (after learning from all of my panic attacks over this phone) is to re-lock your bootloader and run the RUU for your device and then start over when you're ready.
