I thought that to but in this thread this guy asked Verizon and they said it is not. A lot of people said it is tho. There is a video showing it but he could have plugged the headphone jack. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34799280

Thank you for contacting HTC Technical Support North America!
I bet you are as curious as we are here about the new HTC DROID DNA. I was doing some research on this device and I found it has the same dust and waterproof IPX5. You will be able to learn more about the specs of this phone at HTC Droid DNA technical specifications :: GSMchoice.com. I’m positive this is what you are looking for.
As this is not an HTC official partner website, HTC does not support or warranty any third party information, and its implementation is at your discretion. I encourage you to keep visiting constantly our product page at HTC - Mobile Phones, Smartphones, Cell Phones, Tablets where soon you will be able to learn more about these amazing new gadgets and stay informed on any future announcements.
Feel free to email us back if you have further questions.
Kind regards,
Sincerely,
Jonathan

I don't know how much stock I'd put in that site's information... After all, they do also claim that the DNA also has IrDA support. Which may be true on a software level, the device most definitely has no infrared transmitter nor receiver onboard, so any attached decide would still need a controller app of sorts.
Personally, I'll just keep my phone dry until HTC themselves specifically answer on the possible ipx5 certification.

Also do you think it will be popular or less popular like what happened to the rezound?
I personally might get it off of ebay if it turns out to be close to as popular as the HOX
With the name butterfly, no it will not be as popular as the one x lol Hopefully its made for chicks because I refuse to buy a phone with that name

Well it is aimed toward Japan currently so if it did come to the US they may change the name to something better. The only reason i would want it is because the specs from what ive seen are better then the specs of the HOX+ which is supposed to be coming out in the US.

I think they might be the same phone if you compare the pic from the like in that thread compared to the pic from the link
Edit: Actually they might be the same phone however the J Butterfly is the Japan variant and the DLX is the US variant. That could be a possibility?
It is the same phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900113
Its not the same phone. The hboot on the j butterfly states it as the DLX_J. On the ADR6450 the code name is just DLX. So the butterfly is just a varient. That's why HTC stated that phone would not be released in the US and that a similar one would, more then likely the ADR6450.

I won't be buying it. Awesome phone but a battery that small just won't cut it. And it's a 1080p screen so I'm gonna say that battery will be gone with less than an hour of screen time.

The Razr Maxx HD is coming with a 3300 mah battery. If HTC plans on putting a 2500mah battery mixed with that 5 inch display, expect battery life to be horrid. I hope they up the battery, that device looks very promising and it would be a shame for them to ruin it with something so simple.
Edit: Also just read that it's rumored to have a non-removable battery. The new Snapdragon S4 pro it comes equipped with does sound great tho.

At least the S4 Pro shouldn't have any problems handling 4g as far as battery life is concerned. The battery size is honestly the only deal breaker.
Samsung Galaxy S3
As long as the battery can last me threw my 16hour day its all good with me. My thunderbolt has no problem doing that and neither did my rezound. I'm sure the s4 will only help. 2500 is still huge compared to the 1400 and 1650 we got before. Stop wining.

DNA thoughts (To be a second Rezound or not)

Anyone think there will be a rezound 2 or will the dna be the next thing we all jump to?
A few Google employees that "leak" phone info are really loving this phone.
As for my opinion, no it's not a Rezzy 2. The DNA is beast!
The deciding feature for me will be whether or not it has space heater functionality. Without that, it can't truly be the Rezound 2.

16gb of storage is unforgivable. I could have coped with a fixed battery, but being unable to pop in a SD card for more storage - not happening. The cloud is not an acceptable excuse, when data caps are hilariously low. USB OTG is likewise not a good substitute; my phone should not need a tail.
Also, not really encouraged by HTC's history of supporting their phones after launch - for instance, the ICS update which we only got half a year+ later than promised, on top of it having some bugs that will probably never be addressed. JB is a pipe dream.

Yeah, what Nits said above. But we haven't seen much real data on it, just what was approved by the FCC - and that didn't give us much.
That's what I'm going off of is the rumors I've been reading. I'm new to HTC so I just got the dna less than a month ago. It's called being in sales, and there's a level of dishonesty that they can get away with.
It's really hard to sell an S3 or a DNA when someone believes a better phone is coming out in a month. That's a reasonable amount of time for people to put up with an old phone while waiting for the new hotness.

The goal of the salesperson in the store is to get you to sign a contract before you step out the door. That's it. They can't sell you something they don't have, therefore before a launch (or preorder) the next new phone doesn't exist in the salesperson's vocabulary.
As long as you realize the goal of the salesperson is to get you to sign a contract, then you're OK. Caveat emptor.

If I am not mistaken they are both LCD3.
The One has a slightly sharper display due to it being 1080p on a 4.7 inch display as opposed to a 5 inch display. If memory serves me the One has 469ppi and the DNA has 441ppi.

So does that just mean that it isn't going to have the "DROID" branding? I assume that HTC and Samsung wouldn't be very happy if Verizon was going to ditch all other android devices.
So you could have a DNA2, just not a "DROID" DNA2. Right?

yea its the droid branding, not all androids lol. they would be fools to ditch samsung. but we already have the butterfly s (which IS, technically, the droid DNA 2) being released over seas. maybe it will make its way to the US some day
IDC what the name is, as long as HTC keeps making solid phones, I'm sold!

Its more then disappointing that The HTC One is Verizon's next phone! Smaller screen same processor. Basicly just the name being sold.

So do you guys think the butterfly s will come to Verizon just without the droid branding?

I sure hope so and I hope they keep the exact same specs as the butterfly s because that seems like a beast of a phone ,really want the boom sound and 3200 mah battery

All that plus the option to put up to a 64gb sdcard!! I am definitely getting this phone but just hope it comes to Verizon so I can use an upgrade on it and not throw 800 bucks for it from eBay

I still have hope for a US Butterfly S. HTC would be an idiot of a company not to release it to a US market. The question is, will it come to Verizon? The DNA wasn't much of a success on Verizon (but the J Butterfly was over in Japan was), so they might aim for a GSM carrier. OR it may come to sprint as the HTC Evo Butterfly.
Also, I kind of understand Verizon's decision to make the Droid line Motorola-only. The non-Moto Droids have never done well. Read: Droid Charge, and (dare I say it) DNA. The Moto Droids have almost always been top-selling devices. Like the original Droid and its sequels, The RAZR line, specifically the original Droid RAZR Maxx, and the Mini/Maxx/Ultra will likely follow that path.
BTW: I'm stuck with my DNA (and i'm perfectly fine with that) for the next year and a half, so absolutely none of this will affect me until my contract ends in Jan 2015. I personally couldn't care less what happens with the whole Butterfly S/DNA 2 situation, but I understand some of you like to replace your device more frequently (which is perfectly fine) so I'm just adding my $0.02 to anyone who may be interested.

Droid DNA is a great phone don't get me wrong but our family plan has like 3 extra upgrades to blow and my mom, grandma, and my brother don't really use them and use basic phones lol.

And I also have a cracked screen lol. I have a love hate relationship with the HTC droids. Love that they aren't as popular as iPhone's or Samsung's so u feel like your unique... Hate the software development from Verizon (because of it not being as popular I guess)

Who cares, the new phones don't have much wow factor to make me think the DNA is missing something or is being left behind. And looking at the development, the DNA has a good number of roms and kernels so I don't feel like it is under developed.
The DNA will be running strong for at least three years.
What I don't understand is... We have a 5 Inch, 1080P, Quad Core Android cell phone.. Nobody seems to care? We do!! But it's always about the HTC One, whatever Motorola is coming out with.. and Nokia Windows 8 phones..the next Nexus.. What is Samsung doing?? We have an absolute monster phone that I love yet there was almost ZERO hype behind it.. launched, then .. "Hey, I'm still here, I'm free now" .... Unless I missed something in my zombie like state of mind lately.. People ask what phone I have, then I tell them.. and I hear crickets.. People have no idea about this beast!!
See if people are wowed when you tell them you have the new Droid Ultra with a whopping 5 inch screen, powerful 1.7 dual core processor, and an unprecedented 2 gb ram plus the usually lousy Moto camera.

Exactly!!! People go nuts over that sort of thing.. But a Quad core 5" 1080P HD phone is... "They aren't talking it up, must be mediocre"

Completely agree with you. I firmly believe that the Droid DNA/J Butterfly/DLX is the second most innovative device of the modern mobile technology world. Second only to the Ubuntu Edge. I think the mistake was making this beast a Verizon exclusive. If they had endorsed the DNA the way they did with the One, or how Samsung has done since the Galaxy S2, they could easily blow the SGS4 and Xperia Z out of the water. Don't get me wrong, the One, S4 and XPZ are all great devices, but the DNA could easily rank right up there with them if HTC had really tried. And that's not even mentioning the Butterfly S. Bringing it to the states and endorsing it on all major carriers could set HTC for eternity. It takes the overall greatness of our DNAs and gives it all the things we love about the One (like boomsound). It's pretty much the ultimate smartphone IMO. HTC needs to play smart in the future, or they'll crash and burn. Hopefully the One's success will teach them this.

The butterfly s is the only new phone I'm really looking foward too. I would pick the DNA over any other phone except it. It really solves all of our issues we had with the DNA . The battery is insane now, finally have more storage, and even though our speaker is amazing on the DNA, who wouldn't want boomsound?
