I messed up my phone a bit and tried to do a data wipe in recovery (TWRP) but I was still having issues so I figured I would wipe everything, including /system, and just flash the stock ROM to get back on track. I didn't realize that the stock ROM listed in the dev section is in RUU format and not a flashable zip. I tried the RUU but it won't work, I assume because I am unlocked/rooted (I tried relocking the bootloader but still no go). So, does anyone know where I might get a flashable zip of the stock ROM or even a backup I could restore in recovery (if that would even work)? Any advice would be appreciated.

I downloaded my version of choice from the wiki but it is an "img" file.
Because of all the updating I've been doing, my phone only updates from zips now. How do I install the "img" file?
Thanks
Wait...
You downloaded an .img file? That means you downloaded the recovery image for the ROM you chose to use rather than the ROM itself. Stock ROMs use .pkg as an extension. In any event, you need to download the recovery image for the ROM version you choose to use anyway, because you will need to replace your existing recovery image with the one you downloaded in order to be able to flash a stock ROM.
I think I have this figured out. I have to flash the recovery img to my phone using fastboot then use the phone's recovery feature to install the pkg, correct?
Yup, that is correct
Make sure the update.pkg is on the root of your sdcard.
Make sure to backup before proceeding just in case.
I ended up back on simplestreak because nothing else would go back on and be stable, not even the nandroid I made a few days ago would run.
Put on the most basic version with no upgrades and it isn't too bad, although last night in the middle of a game of Angry Birds the screen went black and the phone restarted. Did it twice then started behaving properly again.
Might wanna try doing a factory reset after flashing the rom
If you still have StreakMod Recovery (the custom recovery) can also try wipe delvik cache and wipe cache partition then do your flashing
As usual, do a backup before proceeding!
Wipe all that before flashing? I keep doing it afterwards because that's what I saw for instructions somewhere.

Oops ... mistype that ... your right, should be after.
I have a rooted s-on Evo 3D and Im trying to put my moms number on it since I got a new phone, but I keep getting an error I'm running a custom rom and I'm pretty sure you need to be on the stock rom so you could actually change numbers, I need to go back to to the stock rom, I have it backed up but I'm on a different kernel and since I can't just restore it I need to flash the kernel first of my back up, ive been using flash image GUI for flashing my roms but I don't know how to restore the back up I have of the stock rom, if I just restore it won't flash the kernel. Someone please help me. I can can fastboot I think, restore The backup. Does anyone have the link for the intructions? I can't find the thread that they made. Thanks.
What rom are you on? when you flashed it did you clear dalvik cache first?
Also you can try and go into custom recovery and clear you dalvik cache and see if that works!
Sometime (in my experience anyways) I have had to re-flash the rom because it was messing up after instal ie. FC on all apps but a fresh install worked like a charm.
Hi,
I want to temporary boot my nexus 6 with ElementalX.
I'm familiar with the fastboot command fastboot boot boot.img
But what boot img I need to use after downloading the flashable zip file of the kernel?
Pics provided below, which file I need to use for the fastboot command?
I don't believe you can flash Elemental kernel in that regards as it is set up differently than many custom boot.imgs. Even if you did, you would be missing out on many functions of the kernel without the other settings being installed. You could either do a nandroid backup of your boot and system and restore that when you were done testing the kernel or dirty flash just the rom you are on (they have flashable stock roms in the forums) while just wiping the cache and dalvik cache.

I only want to flash ElementalX in order to be able to use properly on Android M.
But I'll try to do a nandroidbackup . funny I never though to do that. Thanks.
Yea, for best results, use TWRP, make a backup, then flash what you need. No reason to keep a stock recovery setup if you are running a custom kernel and root as you will not want to take OTA updates anyway. Keep in mind that it is also recommended to update the radio and bootloader. I have seen reports of members being fine without them, but it's best practice to keep them all updated together. If you don't want to mess with any of that and don't care about being rooted or customized at all, then you will just want to unlock the bootloader and flash the factory img files from Google and then all partitions will be updated to official 6.0 and you'll be done with it. If you go that route, remember to backup your internal storage as unlocking the bootloader and the update will wipe everything.
I need some help or guide here please.. i was on latest 5.1.1 updated, after successfully rooted my phone everything was perfect, untill i was trying to go back to stock.. i restored my nandroid backup and the phone successfully boot up, but there were no app nor partitions no anything.. i flash Candy5 Rom, and everything seems to work perfectly or any other rom.. but when trying to get back to stock nothing happens.. it just wipe everything and the phone wont boot at all unless i reflash any other custom rom.
when i am on recovery, i can see my phone storage and every files as my sdcard, what i believe that the phone has just only been wipe out but any of the update zip from this thread or any other i been trying to get back to factory stock has work.. i have try many thing with FlashTool,, i flash systems img, boots, img, everything you can think of to try get it back to stock.. and end up with the same results,.. some how messing around in recovery mode (flashtool hotboot dumkernel and other kernels that allow me to enter in recovery) i noticed, that system partition does not mount .. is there any idea or sucgestion .. i would really appreciated.. thanks in advance.
