Thinking of going to widows.. - Nokia Lumia 920

Thinking of going from Android to Windows. Has anyone else made the move and regrets it? Or is anyone happy about the move?
Explain why
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

I've had plenty of phones, I most recently had a Galaxy Note and an iPhone 5 and I've made the move to a Lumia 920 and I am very happy with the decision. No matter what device or platform you choose there will always be pros and cons. Windows Phone is quick, simple and stable, I enjoy the UI, theres a lot to like here. You won't get the customization you get with Android. I've been using iPhones since the original and I was ready to try something different and I'm glad I did.

Well considering it's a very pricey phone it may be a month or so till I get one. Maybe if I can trade my Gnex or sell it

I've had two iPhones and three Android phones and I have no regret about moving to the Lumia 920. Smooth, fast and reliable. I'm typing this from my nexus 7 with the latest version of Android and it's still clunky compared to Windows Phone 8.

hi everyone,
i am also looking at moving to the nokia 920 it looks amazing. and i want something new, i am over the iphone's and andriods but i have a few questions.
i am an avid video watcher on my train rides into work and comic book reader. I am curious, do i need to convert my movies to the what ever format windows 8 movie format ? how easy is it to sync data with your workstation ? i am trying to find out about more but having a lot of trouble finding out info on windows 8 mobile, any feedback would be great.

Don't know about the sync question but my Windows 7 machine automatically converted vob files before transferring to the phone and wmv and mp4 pay just fine.

How is the combination of your nexus 7 and 920? I'm thinking of getting a 920 to go along with my nexus 7 so I could have my nexus 7 for apps and videos.

Well it used to be Nexus 7 and SGS2. I use the N7 almost exclusively for video when traveling. The L920 is my phone and email device first...media player dead last.

Well one of the criticisms of wp8 is that it lacks apps. Does the combo completely thrash away that argument? Is there anything lacking in this combo that you can do with some other phone like an iPhone.

It's my media player first . Music, games, everything! Only qualm is that the music app loads up slowly and lags on my Lumia 920 - that, and DrawSomething. Everything else works like a charm.

Contacts
I am just wondering ......how do you transfer all the contacts from Google to Windows 8 phone

Ive moved from Android (galaxy nexus) to Lumia 920. So far pretty good. Really enjoying it. The music app isn't that great (troubles syncing in Win8, no search function). Needs a little more work/features
The battery life I think is actually pretty decent. Standby time is amazing!
Facebook app isn't very good.. Hopefully this gets updated

Contact sync is easy since MS sort of integrated it into the OS. Just create a Google account using your Google login and all your contacts will sync.

Help! Does not support latest Adobe Flash Player! Will not play! Help! Sucks!

Well this might make my decision to go back to android. Being a smartphone it does not support the latest Adobe flash player. Which means the E card my fiancé sent me will not play or other files. This sucks. I had a Note that did everything. I love this phone. Do not want to get rid of it. But this is a big deal breaker for me. Unless someone has a fix. Thanks.

Windows Phone and iPhone don't support flash, they use HTML5. Only Android uses flash.
Try Metro Browser - it suggests it can play certain flash sites. However, it might not be 100% solution. If you purchased the phone for mainly flash, I think you might have made a wrong choice. Grab that Note or HTC One X or SGS3
From the beginning WP7 was designed to not support Flash. Like a previous poster said, they are pushing for HTML5. Apple are doing the same and it is working. While I can understand your frustration, unless you are willing to adapt to a lack of Flash (I did!) then WP7 is not for you. I would recommend getting your Galaxy Note back if this is the case, or waiting for the Galaxy Note 2.
Thanks for all the replies. I will keep the phone a little while longer. Before my 30 days are up. I will decide.

[Q] Concern: My iPad 1 renders .docs, .ppt, and .pdfs faster than my Android devices

My iPad 1 renders docs, ppts, and pdfs faster and smoother than my Nexus 7. I find it odd since my Android devices contain faster hardware. Does anyone know why that is the case?

Nope, according to forum posts and reviews by people using both platforms the nexus 7 is as good as ipad 3 reading them yet alone as ipad so if you're seeing a large difference I could only suggest trying different viewing apps in case they are the cause.

Have you tried Adobe Reader for your pdfs? I don't have issue with quickoffice pro on my JB Kindle Fire on anything.

He says he doesn't have issue with quick office pro, but i do because i use it. maybe you can figure out what my issue is once you learn to read. Compared to even ipad 1, rendering said files on android is laggy. Why you do insist on accepting **** performance when the hardware is more than capable? There is no excuse for it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Try this and you will understand why:
Open androidcentral.com(or another site with a lots of text and images) on your ipad and your android device. When site is loading pinch page in bothdevices, you will see that ipads web page is not rendering new loaded stuff but android device will be update page every second you keep pinching without stopping. Thats the reason of why 700mhz single core iphone 4 is smoother than our quad core beasts. Whenever an iOS devices detects touch, it stops other processes and focuses all attention to rendering the UI. Android devices don’t do this, instead general processing and UI rendering occurs concurrently which results in choppy UI.

Well I think you made your point there, and having just read your posts about tegra 3 (to see why you're being called a troll) it was pretty clear you were on about one specific developers titles so to be fair I don't think that qualifies you or anyone as a troll. Unless I read it wrong you were actually saying tegra 3 was good but the games from that developer were poorly coded for it.
But I'm going off topic there, sorry. Is the document a free one that can be downloaded?
If so I can try a few viewing apps out on it and find best one as I'm not having issues like that on my phone so if I could get it playing smooth it should be ok for you too were you to try the same software as my phone only has 100 mb free ram usually and you have more plus a better cpu and gpu.

But then you have to change your number to a GV number, and doing that would be problematic for me. Am I right in thinking this?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Change what number? Your tablet isn't a phone. It links to your GMail account, and you can create a new phone number that can ring your devices on making a new account. If you mean texting people with your actual phone number then yea that might be an issue, as it shows on their phone as your GV number.
Wouldn't it use a new phone number for the texts?

I'll be brief and to the point, no.

I am currently using the Galaxy Note 2 as the only computer and cord cutting entertainment device. Not by choice, but by necessity.
There is a learning curve in trying to do on this device that I used to do on a computer. Specially with word processing like floating text boxes. But I am doing it all on this Galaxy Note 2.
On the entertainment side of things I only missing a few shows that you can only get on iTunes that I can't get on Android. And I need to get the AllShare Cast Wireless Hub or better yet Galaxy Note II Smart Dock. So I can watch video on a larger screen. But beyond that I get all other videos, music, and gaming I like on this device.
As long as you have enough bandwidth and the right accessories you can use your Galaxy Note 2 as your computer and entertainment center. After all this device is really a computer in your hands.
---------- Post added at 06:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 PM ----------
Will this device replace a computer for everyone? No.
It depends on your lifestyle at the moment. If you are more mobile lifestyle then yes. But if you are someone who rips your CDs or do other things that demand a device that has different compatibilities than PPC devices, then the answer is no.
In order for Android to get to that point there needs to be evolution in technology. Like what happens when you get into your new car with your Android. Your home network needs to recognize your Android. Then allow your Android to wireless connect to a keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, external hard drive, external DVD drive, printer etc for computer work. Allow you to wireless connect to your TV/monitor, home theater center, etc for entertainment purposes. And lastly wireless connect your Android to your home and appliances so your home and appliances can do what you want to them to do.
AllShare Cast Wireless Hub is a good start. But still missing so much in so many areas.
Once we get there, then these devices can become the only device you ever need.

Yeah I hardly ever use a computer. Only time I do is like rooting and unlocking this which I believe was the last time I used it. This thing is faster then alot of computers in terms of navigating on the net and some other things. Best thing, its fits n my pocket and is with me all day everyday.

For me the N2 has come closer than other device I have owned to be a suitable replacement for my laptop. I even gave my Motorola Xoom to my daughter as I find I have more functionality and enjoy using the N2 more than either device. So to answer the question of survival........I'm not there just yet. Using Word and Excel software on any Android device is still a challenge for me and as I use these program on a daily basis I would unfortunately not survive very long.

Outside of work, this has basically replaced my computer. I rarely if ever turn on my computer at home. My IPod has been put away, something I couldn't do with my Droid X as music/radio would kill my battery.
However for work purposes, I have to use both Macs and PCs and I don't see that ever changing due to the machines/software I need for my job.

Could we use it to remote access a computer?

New Google Play Store looks good

I installed it on my Nexus 10, Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. I'm definitely a fan of the new look.

I personally like the darker version a lot more. But it is ok I guess. Feels a bit stuttery at times scrolling through the apps and the first page is spazzing out when i try to flick it

Still don't have the new play store. Don't think Google have ever been so slow.
I got it whilst trying to get the AOKP milestone to play nice. Had to reinstall GApps. Looks good, but I actually miss the old layout.
As far as tablet apps has there been more of them ? I had the nexus 7 for a few months and there wasn't many tablet apps . I really want another android tablet but I wish they had more apps

I liked the old one but I'm sure it will grow on me.
Can someone make a screenshot of his N10 with the new play store. Thanks

Yes. I need time to get used to it. Icons are too big.
Yes, the new interface looks better, but I really hope goolge can improve it better just like itunes.
Has anyone actually had the new store pushed out to their N10 yet? I got it on my Galaxy Nexus within a day of when it was announced, and yet still nothing for my tablet. It seems like Google is using the same slow, random, and crap update process they use for pushing OS updates.

I got it 2 days after. What OS Update pushes? You mean all the non-Nexus devices and carrier-locked devices that carriers/manufacturers completely lock down against updates until they can put their blockware/bloatware on it?
EDIT: I do know what you mean by slow and random update process, as it is frustrating, seeing as my phone got the new app store like 3 days after the Nexus 10 did. Just don't feel OS updates are relevant

When 4.2.2 came out there were some people who got it pushed to their device the same day and some who had to wait a week or more...
That's he's talking about

Not just 4.2.2, every OS update Google has every pushed at since they started the Nexus program. I find it weird the new Play update is doing the same thing, for every other app update in the Play Store every user gets updated at the same time.
Looks good. Thanks
I still have not received the new Play Store app yet. Is there something I need to do on my Nexus 10 to force the update?

What he said...
it doesnt look good.
As previously while browsing Top apps, around 20-25 apps would be shown on a single page without scrolling down.
Now just 4 apps are being shown on the screeen
& that too color is also not good for my phone with SAMOLED screen
pathetic
i think it looks good after the previous version
