Ok so my charging port has been pretty janky the past week or 2 and now it won't charge my EVO at all. I tried multiple cables and such and it's definitely the port. Now I'm figuring if I bring it in they will label it a manufacturer defect since there isn't a scratch on my phone and such but would I be able to get them to swap it for an s3 if they can't fix it? My friend back in the day got a different phone from a replacement because they considered an equivalent trade or something and in wanna try a s3 just to see how it is since my friend is in love with his and if anything I would bring it back in the 10 or 14 day return Window to get the EVO back. But yeah has anyone had any experience with getting a different equivalent phone as a replacement?

The charge port is not a known weak part on this phone, so they may claim abuse or say that your phone fell with the cord plugged in.
They may refuse to cover it unless you have the extra insurance.
I doubt very much you will be able to work out a switch and personally I don't see why you would want to. The S3 is a plastic phone with a screen I hate and a lesser GPS and camera. The only plus to the G3 is more development and more memory that doesn't really seem to make the phone run any beter or even as well as a rooted evo.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is not a warranty issue, it is considered user damage and Sprint won't fix it. You will have to claim it on insurance and no, they won't give you a different phone. Most likely a refurbished phone. If you have Best Buy insurance they will replace it with another evo LTE. If you have Sprint insurance you will have to pay the deductible.

Ok thanks for the info guys. Guess I'll just have to take my chances and see when I go there.
Midmadn: the s3 and EVO each have their ups and downs. With the EVO I love the build quality, camera features, and audio. But the radios are weird, mine got a slight bend from my pocket by the kickstand (easily bent back), and HTC is stupid with source. With the s3 I like the screen, the plastic doesn't really bother me, I like the led notification customization, aosp is just about perfect since Sammy actually releases source, and the radios actually work as intended. Sure the camera doesn't have the same features but it still has quick shots and that works for me. Every one has their own opinions on phones so yeah...

Everything is different for everyone but a friend had same problem with his EVO LTE and Sprint replaced on the spot, new and no deductible. They indicated it was covered under warranty no questions asked. Hopefully you will get the same treatment. If Best Buy, you should be golden as they are the best warranty service IMO.

I had the same exact issue with my previous EVO and they would not replace it. However, I went to different store and there was no problem. Honestly, it varies per store.

Just called verizon because my eris' power button wasnt working, told me replacement would come thursday. Really hating this phone and how under performed its actually been. Anyone have a recent replacement? just want to know how good the quality is, my current is a replacement and this is the only problem ive had.
sometimes the replacements are like the extra phones they have. keyword SOMETIMES...so you may have gotten one of those but if you want to make sure your replacement is 100% like new just ask politely for a brand new phone for a replacement and you'll get one. at least that's how it worked with my family's phones in the past.
My girlfriend got a replacement last month after the trackball quit working. The phone is a high quality refurb. Not a single mark on it and it even has a cool light blueish teal trackball light. If I hadn't had such good luck with my original that still works perfect, I would try to find a reason to get a replacement.
P.S. Her phone was covered under warranty so it is a replacement from Verizon not asurion.

Man, I wish I were as lucky as you guys, after posting, I got my 2nd replacement since buying this phone. After activating it It was pretty much new. After a day I saw that the capacitive buttons only worked when you touched the spot right above the actual button, not a huge concern but it was annoying. Called them and they sent another one. This one was worse off, the bottom of the screen was actually seperating from the phone and the light from the capacitive was leaking through. Waiting for it to get worse to call.

so, how can this be done........we have one year before the battery is half as good..., any suggestions
Battery is connected with a very easy port... almost like molex. It will be as easy as opening your computer and installing a new hard drive. Just a lot smaller and with more warrenty voiding

Well I believe they did, unless the poster used some serious video editing. He didn't really unscrew anything in the video, which means that wasn't his first time taking it apart.
I watched that video while in line at sprint yesterday. The battery is the reason I didn't buy the EVO LTE just yet.
Back in the blackberry days, you could buy colored trackballs. I replaced mine a couple times. If I'm not mistaken, that is considered at least questionable on the warranty side of things.
So I can only assume there will be people selling replacement batteries for this just like there have always been retailers for trackballs and screen replacements.
Would anyone else agree with that? Cause that argument is the only thing I'm using to talk myself into buying one.

I will agree. There will be replacements available. Whether or not you want to go to the hassle of replacing will be up to you.
Molex ports or connectors (idk the proper term) are big plastic five pronged power cables that most PC's have. Google it.

It's not going to be hard to replace. I wouldn't worry about it. If you can remove a few small screws, unplug a cable, plug a cable back in, and reinsert a few phillips screws you'll be ok. HTC makes it seemingly easy to repair your phone yourself. Now, the iPhone on the other hand, is not easy for most people to fix themselves. Replacing the LCD will take you 1 hour or more. I replace iPhone 4 LCDs/digitizers as a side job. It's tedious, but worth 55 dollars for an hour of work. I don't think it will be hard to replace the battery on the LTE.
This thread read my mind...
I almost didn't buy the Evo LTE for this very reason. It never crossed my mind that i do laptop screens alot on the side, and have replaced my evo screen a few time too. That someone would come up with a work around, it'll happen. It better happen...
having owned an eris, inc1, inc2, rezound, inc4, and gnex recently.
does anyone also get weired out when u see the lights on the phone, cos when they were off on the inc2, they were off cos they were leds.
I have to say I really like this phone.
It's built exactly like the Rezound - the fact that you don't have to take out the battery to get to the sd card on this phone like u did in the Rezound (sounds like wouldn't be an issue, but when trying to get from bootloader to recovery, this really helps lol)
anyway, the gnex I had for about a month, it was fun, mainly because I only use HTC phone do to my extreme liking of HTC Sense.
it was just too large, when I traded it for the rezound the slimmness of the rezound felt like heaven.
the rezound though is and will forever be plauged with a horrendous community (for whatever reason, idk but to me it was worth going back to my inc2 than to stay in that crap of a community)
sorry for the rant
anyway, I think the build quality is OK on the inc4g/rezound
i think the battery back is not attached as well as it should/could be
if any of you are coming from the inc2 that was very hard to take it off.
don't get me wrong the inc4g is a nice build, but IMO the inc2 was better.
has anyone have the loose battery door like myself? drives me nuts, I had it on the rezound and actualy boght another battery door which did help, i think the more u pull it on and off the looser it gets, so i might cal verizon and ask for a new one sent out.
or maybe some paper under the door on top battery, that worked great on rez until i got a new door lol.
My door is not loose at all... Make sure are the clips are set... If it is than I would suggest going to a Verizon store and getting another unit... Not just another battery cover cuz the problem can be with units clips.. if u don't wanna deal with all that... You can always buy your self a case and call it a day lol

My battery cover snaps on fine, but there is just a bit of squeaking and movement right where the NFC contacts are.

thanks guys, your input def means a lot.
thought I may have been too OCD haha.
I had this prob. when I had the Rezound (which I hated, was a brick) but this phone is literally built identically to the Rezound but our phone has the SD slot like the inc2, and the rez has is under the battery(which sucked when havig a PG..zip) on ur sd card and trying to get into recovery haha. oh man)
I eventually put paper behind the back door, but decided one day to take them out and it just felt better to me so i kept it.
I also bought a new back door lol.
it actually did help. I think the more you pull it off and on obv. the more it wears on it.

i tried calling making up some **** trying to get a new one sent and the only way was to charge cc full retail until they got this one back, but wasn't worth all thta hassle for what could just be me being OCD.
but once that 14 days is gone they will send u a refurb before u can say hello.
it's funny to me sometimes how easily it is to get a refurb and the reasons ppl do.
I read once some sent back his inc1 saying the speaker blew (it hadn't), but the screen had a scratch out of no where, so he got a refurb cos the scratch.
I think the refurbs are a 50/50, they can either be a perfect, a phone someone used for a day and traded in, and I've read ppl getting refurbs that still contain custom recoveries.. whether this is true who knows but I have gotten pretty bad refurbs to the point i had to call to send another because the one i got sucked.
inc2 was a great phone but had some weird flaws to me, id get a refurb and one of the soft keys had a virbate u couldnt even feel and the other one was so hard and loud it was to the point they both were so bad i called for another one, which was luckily perfect on the soft keys but the friggin power buttun is pushed in. the one with the really low soft keys had a crap power button pushed in too, and the craqzy vibrate soft key refurb had a perfect power button, it was never ending.
I finally found a good one, gave to my bro, got a rezound, bought an inc2 on CL it was somehow perfect, must have jsut gotten a refurb lol it was so mint, and gave it to me for $100, which i sold yesterday for $120 haha.
sorry for the rant.
the inc4 is an amazing phone.
I'm very happy I chose to get the Galaxy Nexus for month and then sold it for the Rezound which I used for a few months that I then sold for the inc4 on contract.
def worth it.
only other phone id want is one S and thats not coming, so this phone = win.

I'm a freak about my phone being quiet in hand and solid as well. I look at it this way... this phone will be the most handled and used device I own for the next year at the very least, so I want it to be perfect. Any odd squishing or squeaking will eventually drive me insane.
I actually took my Inc4G back to Best Buy to see if I could get a replacement because of the battery door squish/squeak. Rather than go through the whole process of an exchange, the BB chick popped the battery door off of her own Inc4G to see if the fit was different. It was, but not in a good way. Hers was loose near the power button, but solid near the NFC contacts. So I just stayed with my own.
I think it's just something with this model... not a perfectly fitting door, might have something to do with the unconventional shape. Who knows. I might try the paper trick. I'll do anything to avoid putting a case on my phone as I hate the additional bulk. If paper doesn't work, I'll have to see about getting a replacement door. Other than that, this thing has been stellar. Just give me some AOSP/CM10 and I'm in heaven.
Its weird because I pulled several of them out of the box today to check the backs.... They all seemed solid... Maybe a bad batch?

did u just call and say ur back was messed up and ask for new one?
I went to a store and after talking to the manager who was honestly a condescending ****, he said he would have a new one shipped to me and refused to switch the phone out on the spot which he should have done. Normally my experiences with Verizon are really good I might add.
Well if this wasn't a smack in the face! This morning I wake up with an email on my phone proclaiming this is now shipping. So a phone that already has a removable battery, with plenty of extra and extended batteries available, is first to the market with a case/battery combo, before a phone that doesn't have a removable battery? Not to mention they also got first dibs on their new waterproof case but that is understandable considering how many Samsung sells. Well needless to say I instantly shot off an email asking if and when they were planning on releasing something for the phones that actually need their product. Waiting for response.
I also seen this and was surprised. I have an S3 and can't for the life of me think why anybody would buy this product. A spare battery is only a few bucks and they are so small and easy to carry. Why would anybody want one if you had the choice?
I can understand it being a popular product for something like the one x or the Iphone that don't have a removable battery but it seems like a stupid idea to me to make this for the S3. They must have a market for it though I suppose.

This is just a result of Samsung's crack marketing, they got this sort of cult following now and that means there's a potential market for useless crap, I wouldn't mind a rechargable case for my lte but on a device with a removable battery it's more of a gimmick to me

at least with a case you wont have to remove the battery to put in another one
a case is not gimmicky for a phone like that imo
While I admit its useful, many of these device families use similar batteries. I loved that I could just toss my evo battery into my 3d and and keep going without having to spend money on an accessory that caters specifically to one device model. When I have upgraded the case will be useless in regards to the new phone, Unless the design is the same which is not very likely
My battery is the best I ever had on a smartphone..
No need for ugly aftermarket batteries or ugly cases with battery that make my beautiful EVO fugly!
I'm good!

it's not like we can't replace the battery on the 4g lte, you just have to remove some screws but luckily the phone is able to hold itself together without those screws
I currently carry a spare battery around with me like i did with the 3vo and it works great
Not surprised. right after the GS3 came out Trident had all the colors available for the Kraken and iirc the other cases they were planning to offer for that phone. The Evo LTE came out a few months before that and a few months AFTER they made the case for GS3, the ones for the Evo LTE started rolling out.
I can understand the Evo LTE not getting much love because only Sprint has it and its a different form factor than the HOX, but I'm a bit disappointed that the HOX didn't have a battery case by now. I don't actually need one myself as the battery life is sufficient to me but it would be great to have options.
You guys are acting like a bunch of EMO highschoolers. OMG why does the world hate us?
Seriously..... the S3 is a blockbuster phone. Yes, that attracts people to make accessories for it. Who would have thought that people looking to sell things want to have a large market for their products?
In the end... so what? If you can't get a full days charge out of this battery, you are doing something wrong.

Or I could just carry around my charger and plug it in when the battery gets low....guess you don't get the point of not wanting to carry around a extra battery or charger or battery bank. If I already put my phone in a bulky case for protection, why not also get the added benefit of extra juice, all in one item.
So this has been somewhat bothering me since pretty much day one and I have told myself it's not a big deal just me being "nit picky" but I just have to mention and ask...
My DNA is "creaky" on the front glass I clean my display endlessly and it makes a creaky (for lack of a better description or recording of the actual sound..) sound.. I also notice that when I put it down there is a noise from the camera area.. (maybe auto focus lens..)

If your phone is less than 14 days old, you may easily get it replaced at Verizon store.
I had this issue, and got a new replacement without any hassle.
You just got a phone like that. Either get it replaced or get used to it. Sorry...
I wouldn't be happy either. Doubt Verizon will swap it for that. I'd try to tell them it gets hot or doesn't hold the charge or something. They swapped my husband's Rezound cause it was hot and dying in a matter of hour when plugged in and used as GPS in the car. Tell them you have a problem like that.

Same here.
Mine is solid as a rock.
This set is "the nuts"! (poker term).
Except for the fact that you can't even look at it without somehow touching the rocker volume and changing the setting.
I don't want a case on it so I just remember to handle it without actually touching it.
Or get Volume Locker app.
With case off, no creaks on mine. Then again, the instant I pulled it out of the box, I babied it in a screen protector and ballistic sg case. My Nexus 7 though, creaks like no other.
Sometimes phones can begin to show creaking after having a case on it that was too small for it. Have you recently had problems removing a case?
