[Q] Firmware updated 10.4.2.17 touchscreen not working - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi,
I'm just posting a new thread to see if this has happened to anyone else.
After upgrading the firmware, the touchscreen is not responding sometimes. It's very strange. Even on the unlock screen... I need to use the keyboard to unlock it.
And then suddenly it would work. Then become unresponsive again.
I've tried:
1. Power down and on
2. Hard reset
3. Cold boot
4. Hard reset x 3 without any account login
It keeps on acting up like this, occasionally just getting stuck on the home screen, and I can't open the config, or move the screen.
Anyone else have this problem after the firmware update?
Thanks

Fortunately no but I got random reboots with JB installed on my side.
With ICS everything is stable.
You should check out a screen test app to make sure the digitizer is not failing!

Sorry to hear you have issue - but wanted to say - I am running stock (updated OTA + hard reset) and all is wonderful.
you might need to RMA (sorry)

Thanks for the replies.
It looks as though this only happens when I have the keyboard plugged in! Strange. Wonder if it's affecting the digitizer somehow, as that part of it above the port has bent and cracked a bit. Never dropped it and always careful when plugging it in.

When you say this only happens when the keyboard is plugged in is the keyboard connected to the power supply the same time? If it is this sound like an earth problem.

No I have it on without plugging it in.. I havent tried it plugged in.
Now this backspace key is giving me problems. Never had the problem before but ehen I type quickly or use the backspace key sometimes it exits out of the keyboard or shoots the cursor up a couple ofparagraphs. So strange. Maybe there is something wrong with the digitizer. Looks like this is going to ASUS for a third RMA...

Razr touch screen randomly not responding

I had my razr for about 2 weeks, and this problem already happen to me a few times.
The touch screen will suddenly not responding to ANY touch, only the the buttons are still working(include the 4 buttons on the bottom).
I had to hard reboot my phone to get it working again.
Does anyone face the same issue?

Yes I also face this type of problem while playing games. Screen become unresponsive while playing but can solve by pressing power button(no need to reboot). Not on 2.3.5 base only on 2.3.6.
I also face this problem, after updating my rom to arctic 2.0 rom, which uses some stuff from 2.3.6.....power does not help, have to hard reboot. any idea why?
I've had this problem happen to me on my Droid RAZR (CDMA Verizon), can't remember if its before or after I was rooted... I just had to hard restart and its only happened once since then.

The power button does not work for me
I had try to press the power button, but then the screen still not responding, so I cannot pass through the lock screen, and have to hard reboot......
I am on stock rom, 2.3.5, the Asian version.
But it seems it does not matter to different region's razr since the cdma one had the same issue

I get this too. I had 3 razrs, first two had dead pixels so I had them replaced, all had this issue. Has not happened in awhile and I can't remember if it was always with a game, but at least one time it was with a game. Anyway, I don't think this has to do with rooting because my first one I never rooted and it did this. Don't remember if power button worked or not, but I had to reboot as well with power and volume down, or up, whatever it is, to get it to respond again.
No problems here.
I have had this happen about 4 or 5 times for me as well - got it day of launch. Mine says it is the XT912 though - is that right?
XT912 is the Verizon specific one, so yes.
Seems to be a fairly common issue. What is the chance that this is a software problem as opposed to a hardware one and so will be fixed with an update?
I had it happen for the first time yesterday after about 5 weeks or so, strange cause I wasn't doing anything. Battery was at about 15% though...
I only encounter this bug when I open Rom Toolbox for the first time and the superuser permissions screen shows up. My screen doesnt respond to touch anymore. I have to use the power button to make it work. Thats it. It happens nowhere else.
I've been using ROM Toolbox since day one, can't say it's the issue.

Happened to me today...any need to panic?? On official Stock ROM 2.3.5...
Also, is this a hardware issue or software??
My problem is bit different, on a 4 month old unrooted razr.
Touch screen will start to fail recognizing my sywpe typing and start jumping all over the place, or it will end the word while I'm still sywping the word...
Sometimes it types in different letters (1/2 keyboard away) when I'm not sywping to avoid this BS when it happens.
Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this result whenever I want to, I'm currently trying to reproduce the situation.
I believe this happens more often when my battery is low... or when I have been using it for an extensive time.
I go to draw program to test if it is the hardware problem and it is jumpy too, but not by much.
The problem does get better with reboot, but not 100% of the time, so I can't conclude it is SW problem
I also have issues with this. I think the problem is software side. It seems to be poorly responsive often after I unlock my phone and try to swipe screens.
Also while typing quickly with two hands it often does not input all the letters I type, although it flashes the keys and acknowledges that I touched them (this one might be a keyboard issues, not sure yet)
And ya, on an all black screen, I'm noticing some dead pixels- a lot of rectangular patches of dead pixels. I don't really notice it anytime else except when it's all black.
Been making me double think my choice, but I will wait for ICS update and possibly bootloader bypass. But.. I might be getting another phone shortly just because of the size (bezel mostly), these touch screen issues, and the performance isn't exactly where I anticipated it to be.
Razr XT910 touchscreen randomly jumping or not responding
I'm having all the problems mentioned earlier:
- touchscreen stops working randomly
- touch "jumps", like someone is touching it in random places
- some letters on the keybord stop working randomly
- phone gets quite hot at the top
My XT910 is not altered in any way, stock android 2.3.5, as updated as possible.
This happened when it was up-to-date and the very clean one.
This happens really irregularily. At first it happened when I played multitouch games - at some point the touchscreen just stopped responding and could only go back or lock the screen (but not unlock it, obviously).
Twice it happened when I was just going through messages or contacts.
I sent it to Motorola to fix it - they just reset it, benchmarked it for 45seconds and sent it back.
The very evening I got it back I tried to "heat" it myself - I installed a lot of apps, played a lot multitouch games on 3d graphic and voila! - it started freaking out like never before (vidoe in zip file attached).
My last idea is that it happens because of a low quality generic anti-scratch foil on the screen. So I threw it away and tried to "heat" the phone again - nothing.
I used a different foil - anti-reflecting + benchmarking apps - nothing.
If it happens again I'll send it with this video + the one I'll make then.
Hope it gets Motorola specialists off their ass and back to work .
Hey there, my maxx has this weird issue with it's screen too.
Take for example, a game with on screen controller like reckless racing. If i push the screen too long, it won't recognize my press anymore in the pressed area. I tried to go back home, thinking this is the game issue, but it's not, the home launcher button that coincidentally in the same location with game control button is unclickable. i tried with phone tester app and it show the same symptom, the pressed area indicator will disappear within 1-2 minutes.
The only solution is to turn off display and turn it on again. Should i bring it to service center?

Hello, I've recently having this exact same problems with my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx.
The screen sometimes doesn't respond as it should:
-Random touches.
-Not detecting swipes.
-Not detecting anything at all after long press.
-Detecting the touch location wrongly...
When this happens, sometimes a reboot fixes everything. Others, I just have to stop using the phone, and come back later.
Has anyone managed to find a possible cause and/or solution to this problem?
I've tried diferent roms, full reset, rsd flashes... But still the same problem

[Q] Brick or hardware failure?

Hi guys,
I bought a second hand mini pro, and flashed (rooted, unlocked bootloader)it with the help of one of the several guides. with Simplexity and MiniCM7
It seemed to work fine at first, but now something odd happens.
I can only turn the device on (working) when I keep the keyboard slided out. When I start up with it slided in, The screen is turned on but no image appears: It stays black.
When it is turned on (slided out) I can use the phone normally. But when I slide it back in, the screen is frozen and won't react to touches.
Putting the phone in and out of standby (slided out) will have two possible outcomes: Either its usable as normal. Or it simply won't come out of standby at all. The phone seems to react (sounds) to pressing the buttons on the keyboard though.
I used Seus and manual methods to reflash to stock, try other kernels, but the problems remain.
I think it's the hardware that's failing but maybe this can be caused by the flashing as well?
Are there any methods to rule out one or the other?

I'm responding to the thread's title : It's a hardware failure.Brick means you can't even power it on/flash mode.If I helped click the "Thanks" button. Also, try using nAa-11 my and x10man's ROM called XMP Rom and tell us if you still have this problem.I understand that you posted this here (If you post it in questions section almost no one will respond )so I won't tell about that.
(Oh, my bad. Mods feel free to move my thread)
I was afraid of that. I'll try your ROM as well, but I'm afraid its the hardware too.
Thankfully I only paid 30 euros for it
I think the flex cable is gone bad, i have the same problem here. My mobile doesnt respond to any touches. First it happened only when i would slide the keyboard. But now its dead as a whole

The XMP rom didn't fix it, so I guess you're right. Would a flex cable (those are the flat orange ones right?) be expensive?

This is the cable we are having a problem with, i have given my mobile for replacing this stuff as i couldnt get this locally. This board houses the LCD and the digitizer and the buttons connect to this. The black cable goes to the motherboard. Its pretty simple to take apart the phone, but take care while doing so. Another thing its that, when you are opening the display panel, its better to use a guitar pick instead of a screwdriver and open it at the latches, that would avoid damage to the outer plastics.

Just to be clear, do you mean that your phone doesn't register your fingers touching the screen on the left side of the phone sometimes?
I would suggest downloading the free app "Touch Test" which shows a grid that not only shows where you are touching, but the path of your slides across the screen. If the phone begins to act up again, you can open the act and see if and where the screen is cutting out in the grid. Aside from that, it might simply be that you need a replacement and its coincidental that it was acting up along side you running a 4.0 rom.

That is the oddest thing I have ever heard lol
It really might be a hardware issue man...I can't think of how it could be the rom. I mean, sure you might occasionally
have an unresponsive touchscreen....but only half the screen working?? That's just weird Oo I'll keep looking around for answers though man
but thus far I've found very little.
Good luck

I have a video but i'm new member i can't send link to my post. I will sent to your inbox. tk
Okay, so that anyone else that happens to come to this thread is on board, here is the video that shows his problem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xDolJhmDog&feature=youtu.be
As you can see in the app, if the origin of the trail is on the right side of his screen, the swipe is recognized across over to the left without problem...if however the origin is on the left side of the screen, no touch is recognized until he reached the middle of the screen, at which point it becomes recognized.
I am still looking around for a similar problem, but thus far have few ideas. Typically, the screen either is totally unresponsive or momentarily unresponsive...never half and half, and especially with such weird rules. By this, I mean that obviously the left side of the device is capable of recognizing touches, since if he begins at the right side, it does just fine....the only problem is if he originally touches the left side, then it doesn't recognize it.
My guess: it could be a kernel issue.
I would try the following:
Pull battery and reboot. Take out any external SD card.
Back up what important apps or data you have and try a factory reset.
You can also try some the options below:
1. Reflashing the kernel.
2. Try a different kernel if available.
3. Factory reset and full wipe and flash a different ics or cm9 rom to see it the problem persist. You can try to isolate the issue to hardware or firmware.
4. Full reset and flash back to complete stock to see if the problem persists. If you are fully reseted and back on stock eclair or froyo and the problem persists, you may have to open up the device to check all the connections.
sometimes a bad battery may also creates some problems
Now i'm using xerxes custom 2.3.6 gingerbread. It's ok but i don't know why when i use ics. I can use half left screen

broken power button?

So I've been playing with my phone for the last couple of days and recently I've been getting random reboots. I thought it was the ROM so I rolled back to a ROM I wasn't getting the issue and experienced the same. I did switch from CWM to TWRP and started getting the problem right around the same time. What happens is the phone goes dark like it's going to reboot, it does it's vibrate to say it's awake and repeats the vibrate roughly once a second until I push the power button a few times or until I pull the battery. I've been able to replicate this by holding the power button down.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
so is your power button broken?

it still functions but it feels touchy. it's very easy to activate it. I'm wondering if the hardware switch is loose and out of place. I'm still debating on tearing it down or calling Samsung and getting it replaced, but I'm not sure if I really want a referb or some tech playing with my phone.
A referb word be preferable to a broken power button.

haha I doubt it, I'll call them tomorrow to find out and if it's going to be too long I'll just tear it down and take a look at it. I have been meaning to look at the possibilities of adding an inductive charger to the phone, maybe this is the opportunity.
I'm having exact same problem. power buttong gets stuck if I press it. phone reboots and just vibrates after reboot without going to recovery or samsung logo. I have stopped using power button and enabled wakeup screen on volume button (SlimROM). Also added "Power" to power widgets in notification drawer settings. I try to avoid pressing power as much as possible.
i'm thinking of calling Samsung support or open phone myself to check it out. let me know if you got it fixed by Samsung. how long did it take to get the phone back? did you restore phone to stock rom before sending it? was it covered under warrenty?

I have an issue similar to this, im thinking my issue is loose connections. what mine does is turn on for a bit and then restart. I've been able to resolve mine by flashing this rom.

I would try taking your phone apart and cleaning the power button with a q-tip and a LITTLE alcohol. if that fails i'd try to flash the rom. Good Luck
attends nimeno
did flashing the rom every fix it op? or did you just go ahead and replace the power button? if the rom did fix it, can someone repost the link? the link is broken.
Again i would try cleaning the power button off first.
to do so:
there should be 9 small phillips screws around the battery -remove those
then the metallic looking rim around the phone has clips that clip the back portion to the rest of the phone. use a finger nail and seperate the grey from the white around the phone, unlatching the clips. remove the back cover and locate the power button(on the left when looking at it from the back. dap the q-tip in a tiny bit of alcohol barely moistening the cotton. apply the q-tip to the button getting a small amount on it and press the button until it clicks smoothly. on the cover you took off you can remove the button it has a little rubber angle on each end holding it in. clean around that also. reassemble and test.

Personally I wouldn't ever Odin with this issue, a reboot while flashing a new bootloader potentially boom. My issue was persistent through all roms and even in recovery which lead me to believe it was hardware. What I did to solve the issue was I pulled the case off, battery out and just played with the button for an hour or so. Felt how it clicked and if it was clicking funny. After that it worked fine. By playing with it I don't mean mashing on it, I mean gently and normal clicking, feeling where it caught and didn't. What it felt like to me was some lint under the button which eventually worked it's way out. Hope this helps

I had this issue of my power button sticking today. I took the phone apart and used some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to get some on the button and pressed it repeatedly. I did that a few times and used some canned air to dry it out a few times. Put it all back together and button is working like new again.

If its not staying on at all then i agree with you. But if the problem is off and on and you've already tried cleaning the button thats really one of your last resorts. if the phone reboots during a flash you will get a firmware download error and you will have to reflash. may take a few tries but if the phone eventually stays on it'll be fine.

As I agree with you. Glad we're on the same page with a power issue like that, I'd check via the recovery image to see if it happened there and continue troubleshooting.

So I've confirmed it is the power switch. Any way to replace it?
dweezy you must have super tough fingernails. I recommend two guitar picks, working them as a pair -- one pixk to separate the bezel from the body, the other to hold the place as you move around the bezel.

Phone is stuck in a boot loop and this is what I know so far. Phone is on stock ROM, power button is working fine, I can get to recovery and OS and download mode, and while phone was charging I took the battery out and the phone keeps vibrating. I now know it's a hardware problem for me (I think), but I can not pin point where. Any advise would be helpful cause I really love my note and this is just breaking my heart. :crying:

When you get into recovery does the phone stay on? If so how long 10 mins? Hours? If it stays on I would assume its software.
Phone stays on forever in those modes, I'm gonna flash a different ROM to see what happens .... so I'm back to say it's a hardware problem. Same exact thing happens with liquid JB, paranadroid, and CM 10...did a clean wipe before installing each one too. Friend pointed me to some sites talking about a battery failure causing phones to do that so I'm gonna order a new one and see what happens...if this fails I have to get a new phone...and continue to work on my baby.

How to disable hw capacitive buttons in JB?

HI, since I've always had issues (from stock rom up) with hw capacitive buttons (home/back/search/menu), I would like to disable them, maybe my Folio is faulty on them (randomly the back button fires by itself, even if the tablet was left alone on the table).
So I ask Artem or anybody who knows it: I can build from sources, what is the minimal diff I can make to the sources? Is it sufficent to comment out line 'CONFIG_KEYBOARD_FOLIOCAP=y' in tegra_betelgeuse_android_defconfig?
Thank you.

So I ask Artem or anybody who knows it: I can build from sources, what is the minimal diff I can make to the sources? Is it sufficent to comment out line 'CONFIG_KEYBOARD_FOLIOCAP=y' in tegra_betelgeuse_android_defconfig?
Thank you.

may be its a bug....
when this happens to me, i click one time on power buttom and than wake it up again. but this isnt the fix solution for the problem, just solves it temporarely
ans solution?
one "solution"
Hello, posting for the first time =)
Anyway, i've had a problem with folios crazy buttons and screen response since day one.
Nothing really changed for me with rom updates and different apps. I have tried it all...
I had enough and finally unplugged that little cable that connects into circuitboard
of those buttons and power-led. This is really no solution but takes care of that problem =)
It also disables power indicator led, so that's a little inconvenience =/. But since unplugged,
touchscreen started to work in every way better like its more responsive and doesn't "freeze" anymore.
But this requires you to disassemble your folio to get to touch with the cable to the circuitboard.
Removing plastic back cover isn't enough, but you Dont have to detache the screen from faceplate.
I'll plug it back on when there's a software fix for buttons behavior. Meanwhile enjoying peace from
button madness =D. Sorry if poor english, i'm Finnish

After disassemble screen seems to work, but after some time is starts again and I don't have "crazy" buttons though.
I'm using mouse and keyboard and it's comfortable.
