[Q] Not Registered on Network and Emergency calls only - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Friends please help,
Im using Samsang galaxy s3 I9300 India version. I have rooted and installed CWM 5.5 on the Samsung ICS 4.04.I tried installing CWM6 via Odin several times but it failed in halfway and the mobile was softbricked, so again using odin i installed Samsungs Jellybean 4.1.1. then i realised my custom recovery and root was gone, not just that some thing happened to my mobiles modem/radio im not able to make calls, messages etc but it shows the tower full and if search for network it shows all possible networks available and registers to automatically select prefered network. please help.
* In one sentence, Im not able to make call(Emergency calls only) phone is completely unlocked.

I have installed a few custom roms on my Galaxy s3 and as of last week when i have a custom rom installed i get no data (internet of call and mms) I reset the phone using kies and it all worked fine but now when i install any custom rom i cannot use data or calls. If i go into About Device and Status it shows no network of any description. I can only use stock rom fashed in kies.
Has anybody else had this issue?
PS. I get a small red mark apear in the to left corner of the screen as the phone boots and shows the samsung logo.

Do you have any APN options on the customs roms ?
Yes, I was using revolution rom hd and I look up the app setting for my network and added them. It would say registered on network but there would be a triangle in the status bar saying no network.
Ok, I have been doing some research and I have found out that I've deleted my efs folder. This means I cannot go online or use calls when using custom roms but I can if I restore with kies. Does anyone know what files kies restore would use to allow me to connect, if I can find these and place then into the custom rom files then I should be able to connect to the network again.

[Q] Cannot make phone calls/ send text messages / use data.

My friend asked me to look at this phone that was softbricked and kept going to CWM recovery everytime it was booted. I updated the CWM to the latest touch version via ODIN then formatted the phone clean. :good: Then I flashed 4.3.1 stable AOKP ROM and the GApps. It was fine, everything else was working. I connected the wi-fi, used bluetooth, signed into google account everything was normal and stable.:highfive: But then I tried calling and it said "no mobile network". Tried sending a text, could not. I went in and searched for network signals then registered to the correct(I AM SURE!) one.:silly: Still no luck. Then I let it choose automatically. Nothing. Then I thought maybe installing another ROM will somehow fix it and flashed CyanogenMod 10.2 stable. Still no luck. I searched around for a flashable radio but could not decide if that would fix it because as far as I am aware if the radio wasn't working no wireless connectivity should've been either.
The phone is Samsung Galaxy S III GTI9300 white 16GB (unlocked) and has been here in Nepal with Nepal Telecom Sim since it was bought. I have no Idea how the soft brick happened but I think this guy tried to manually update the phone with a stock firmware during which some **** must've happened.
Can you guys please let me know if this could be fixed?
Any help would be highly appreciated.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
There are hundreds of identical threads, search and read about efs and imei issues.

[Q] Help with Galaxy S3 softbricked by android update

Hello everyone,
I'd be grateful if anyone can help me out with a problem I'm currently experiencing with my Galaxy S3.
The phone basically won't boot. It powers on fine, goes through the custom logo (for my network provider, Three) and then goes into the Samsung logo. There it stays, unable to boot.
What I think has caused this is that Three notified me of an over-the-air update to Android 4.3 from Android 4.1.2. I downloaded the update, and ran it, but I don't think it completed successfully and so the phone's firmware is probably now corrupt.
I sadly didn't take a backup and would really like to get the phone working again without losing text messages, apps, app data and so on.
I've looked at various options. I have the correct stock ROM/firmware for the phone (H3G version of 4.1.2). I could use Odin, or I could probably install Clockwork Recovery and use that. But I don't know exactly what I'm doing and in particular, how to keep my app data.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

[SOLVED] Unable to connect mobile network

Hi guys,
A month ago my phone got stuck on Samsung's bootscreen (I was using CM10.2). I tried to restore a nandroid backup but the recovery wasn't able to mount /data, so I had to restore my phone via odin flashing official firmware. Then /efs was corrupted so I lost my IMEI (0049...), therefore I wasn't able to connect to the mobile network (no calls, no data connection...) and I hadn't a backup for that (yes, really dumb). Yesterday I took it to a repair service from a mobile store (definitely not the official one) and they restored my old IMEI number, as I can check it comparing the one behind my battery and the one shown dialing *#06#. But it still doesn't connect to the network, only emergency calls. When I try to call, it displays a message that says that it isn't registered in the network, and if try to register it manually, a toast notification displays saying that it's registered but another one in the notification bar says that the network it's not available.
Things that I've already done without success:
- Back up and restore /efs (kTool).
- Flash CM10.2.
- Flash official firmware.
- Tried with other's SIM (mine works fine in other phones).
Any thoughts? clues? anything that cross your minds? I need to bring my S3 back to life and I don't really know where to begin the research (I googled like hell, though).
I'll appreciate any contribution (even if it's just a description of how network connecting works at low level, codes to check, etc),
Thank you (and please forgive my poor english).
Try patched modern and kernel, if that doesn't work then take it back to your repair store.

Thank you for the quick response, I'll give it a try right now!
EDIT: It worked, thank you!!
I'll explain for others. I had CM10.2 before repairing it following the instructions of boomboomer. I've downloaded the firmware I9300XXUGMK6 from here and flashed it with Odin v3.04. After this, I had to get root again and flash cwm recovery (CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 with Odin). Then just flashed the two files listed on this post. Now it works again.

"Emergency calls only" after flashing ROM on S3 i9300

Hello guys! I've been having a problem since yesterday, I've honestly searched all around for a solution but can't find any... Hopefully you can help.
So, recently I flashed my samsung s3 so it would run 4.4 Kitkat. (It was the liquidSmooth ROM). Anyway, after flashing, my phone can no longer call. It keeps showing an "Emergency calls only" message. However, Mobile data works, and the IMEI number is fine. I've tried using the ARIZA patch but it didnt work. I don't know what to do anymore. Please help.
Flash to stock with Odin/heimdall, root, and try again with other custom rom.
