[Q] Battery Degradation/Battery Life Question - HTC Rezound

Over the course of the past month I've appeared to have a drastic decrease in battery life. Just wanted some opinions. I've switched between AOKP, Neo-AOKP, and Rage (which I am currently on), and there seems to be little difference (or at least, nothing is making it significantly better). I always do full wipes before installs. All GPS features turned off, brightness around the 30% mark, no task killer, JuiceDefender running on default balanced settings. See screenshots below for additional information. From 100% to the time of these screenshots I've done about 15-20 texts, 2 phone calls that were both less than 60 seconds, 5 times or so on Facebook (just scrolling through feed mostly), and a total of 5-10 minutes on the internet. I guess what I'm wondering is: Is it possible that my battery has somehow degraded over the past month? And, should i be getting better battery life than this? I am on the stock/standard Rezound battery. Thanks!

My battery has also become worse. Screen time uses about 1.5% per minute. Abysmal.

Gray The Wolf's build or my own build from the megathread. They are as close to vanilla as you can get.

thanks! i might have to give one of those two a try as there jsut doesn't seem to be a culprit for why my battery life has been so bad on aosp regardless of what kernel/gov setup i've tried using. maybe the apps/setup i have doesn't work well with rage and all it's tweaks.

looks ur phone reseting it self every time
cos the 3% used in gsam

I used to run juice defender. It doesn't seem to play well with AOSP, causes lots of wakeups. Try uninstalling/disabling and seeing if it helps, particularly overnight. I don't have any proof but my battery seems to be lasting longer without. (About 5.6 pct per hour during the day, 1-2 pct per hour overnight)
Personally, I use setcpu to make profiles for screen on and off. Screen On, I use Intellidemand tho Neo swears by Lazy. For Screen Off, I set max clock speed to 700 ish mhz and put governor on Wheatley. I can say one thing for sure, Wheatley makes the phone deep sleep very well, assuming you don't have a sync issue or frequently updating widget interfering.

There seems to be a discrepancy between your battery usage monitor and your GSam monitor. Your battery monitor is showing 7 hours plus while the GSam is showing 3 minutes plus since charged.
For the 69% on screen, how long was the screen actually on? Touch the screen percentage to see how long your screen was on. Right now, I am at 13 hours plus with 50% left. My screen is at 65% and has been on 1 hr 53 min. Indoors, I also keep my brightness at 20%.
It seems that some folks have also said they find juice defender to use more battery than it saves. Try uninstalling it and see what happens.
I am using Nils' Business ICS4.0.3, Sense 3.6 ROM and having great battery life with the standard battery.

umm.. i don't use jiuce defender. it's terrible and usually ends up causing worse battery drain than without
Snuzzo - it seems, for now, that your recommendation to go with a vanilla CM9 seems to be the trick. I'll have to monitor over the next few days to be sure, but with the same setup i was running on rage, where i would lose about 3-4%/hour with the phone just sitting and going to sleep, i've only lost 1% in the past 2 hours while on your most updated (10/16) build with your 1.5 kernel..
would i be able to run more recent versions of your kernel on you 10/16 build?

I haven't done 1.8 and 1.7 has the minimum frequency voltage fixed plus a couple extras. Don't try running 1.6 as it was very experimental.

Your roms battery life

Now that we have some huge updates and all these new roms I am curious who is getting the best battery with which rom with the most display time. I am on MIUI getting about the same battery I did with stock 3D. Only about 2 and half hours display time.
I am thinking about going to another rom but, I would like to see what rom could get the best display time.
All the AOSP ROMs for some reason give me terrible battery life. I tried ViperRom and it's battery life is decent. Synergy is okay. Right now, however, I'm using warm twopointthree and it has great battery life. Maybe the best I've seen so far.
Decks sense rom still gives me the best battery life, by far. I used it with the stock kernel and it kicked butt. Very stable overall. I've been getting a solid 19 to 21 hours on CM7 with normal usage, which is good too. I love aosp.

VirusRom InfectedROM_Eternity battery life and performance is awesome with stock kernel. Don't even use setcpu its works so well. Plus the Beats audio and sexy skins are a great plus. Of course if you're own your phone 24/7 its going to drain but at the rate its suppose too and it should be awesome in standby. Yeah Asop roms seem to drain.
I've tried pretty much all the roms. The most stable rom with the best battery life is hands down Myn's rom warm2point3

This is probably the best answer I've ever heard on the matter of battery life and is on par with mine.
Nobody seems to understand that battery life is determined by your usage patterns. So, the next person won't ever get YOUR battery life unless they use their phone like YOU. People also seem to forget that total battery life and awake time are completely different.
Awake time (actually using your phone) will not give you anywhere NEAR the amount of hours some people claim. If you continuously used your phone from a charge of 100% to 0%, NEVER letting it sleep, I would say anywhere from 3-5 hours.
Standby time (screen off/sleep) will definitely get you close to what some people claim. If you charged your phone to 100%, then let it sit in standby the entire time, I'd say anywhere from 24-36 hours.
Awake/Standby combined will average out anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on usage patterns, but can definitely spike up to 16 hours.
(These estimates are with the stock battery)

What's you guys battery comsumption in standby in mA?
According to Current widget mine is around 150mA and when in use t ranges from 400-900mA it is much higher than my previous Desire HD where I get 1-5mA in standby and 60-400mA when in use.
Does anybody notice the same?
I have 2 batterys and it is not enough to see me through 12 hours.
On CM7 VAlpha 3, I'm getting the best battery life I've ever had. When I plugged the phone in at 2:30 am this morning, I still had 54%, and that was with me waking up at 10:30 am. I'd been on battery for 14 hours with 7 hours of awake time (Mainly Cut The Rope, Plants vs. Zombies and Zombieville USA, but a couple half hour phone calls and about 70 text messages as well, also on wifi about 75% of the time).
Clean Rom 2.5 is money. Stable and I'm getting around 16 hrs from a full charge with moderate use. I get 1 bar of signal at work and at least 30-40 min of talk time all day with a little FB and Ebaying. Check it out. Also has a Rom updater app that'll let you download custom fonts, icons, colors, etc.
viperrom
I've been loving viperrom. I have a clean install, no battery saver apps. I just used the viper mod to adjust my cpu settings to be powersave when screen is off. And I'm getting the best battery life i've ever gotten.
Running at 30 hours uptime, i'm still at 37% battery with moderate use.

I get around 16hrs. dual core constant, FB, words with friends, texting, winamp with bluetooth headphones.
Do you have that sync enabled in the background, that drains power.
Three things turn GPS off when not using turn auto brightness off and dim it down till you are happy.. Also make sure you don't have any 3rd party apps keeping your phone awake..
I can get about 24hrs of use outta my phone moderate use or more.. Calls, texts, xda app,youtube.. Anyway I am also on stock kernel... I use a Seidio 1900 mha batt slightly better compared to stock batt. Stock battery I could get about 18hrs with moderate use... If your on your phone playing for 6 to 4 hrs str8 that may kill your phone quicker lol.. Display is the main thing eatin up the juice...
In almost every bad battery post I always see bad signal. Turn off turn off the 4G unless you are actively using it.
This is what pisses me off about HTC phones lol. In battery threads all you see is "turn off, turn off, turn off." We've come so accustomed to it that we actually feel this is routine. It sucks.

freeza has ramdisk mods that help with battery life (old and new base)
my kernels also get great battery life (old base)
(depending on apps installed on ur device)
both these options help a lot, without disabling stuff
on warm 3.5 build 116 and my r14 kernel, default settings - i get 26-28 hours between charges with light to moderate use
heavy use - abt 14-16 hours (with over 70% of battery going on screen-on - lcd backlight will drain battery FAST...nothing to really do abt it except lower brightness)

Surely GPS won't actually be doing anything unless it's actively being used by Android, even if it is 'on'?
BTW... that guy on the first page.. under 4 hours and his battery is almost dead? Seems a little weird.. that's not right unless it's constant usage?

(q) Ics severe battery drain. any fixes?

So I've gradually been trying every ics Rom on xda including stock ruu leaks. With 4g off no CPU monitor or manager. The max I've gotten is 6-8 hours with less than 1 minute of screen on time on some occasions. My gb battery life is great. People are saying the latest leak is gonna be the ota if so how am I supposed to get greater or equal battery life to gb?

I'm not sure, maybe you keep getting bad installs? Maybe you should try to RUU to the latest so you can get the better radios, Idk.
I get essentially the exact same battery life on ICS as I do with GB. I posted my stats in the battery stats thread, but I can get about 24 hours off the charger, with 3.5 hours screen on with 4G on, when I'm in an area with it, on ICS and GB.
Also, by RUU are you having it flash everything, including the radios? Or are you just flashing a zip of a rom based off of an RUU?
I made sure I flashed with the ruu in hboot. And on any of them I get a fraction of my battery life. It's very frustrating. I'm s-off too. Ics just hates my phone I really hope the ota works for me. So anyone have any idea why I can't use any leak ? Should I ruu back to to stock then maybe ruu the New Ics leak?

you say screentime may be low, but does it show that your phone stays sleeping or is there a lot of awake time compared to the screentime? There might either be a rogue app or something that keeps running and wont let it sleep. Might try installing a battery monitor like Battery Monitor Widget to see what is draining your battery so much. BetterBatteryStats is a much better app, but costs $3. Bit pricey for something I might rarely use

I bought betterbatterystats a couple weeks ago cause I was hoping that is was just a rogue app draining juice, but my awake time was pretty normal I dont remember the exact stats. The latest leak I just flashed turned off 4g lowered brightness and screen timeout. I didn't even install any apps so I could give the battery life a test drive. My battery dropped 15 in less than an hour without use. There's gotta be some reason why its sooo much less on ics than gb. I'm thinking about ruuing stock gb then hboot factory reset the newest ics ruu and con Rom. Anyone think it would help?

anybody can get that with an extended battery. reason it's idling that long is because you aren't using it. if you'd manage 2.5 days with over 5 hours of screen on time then I'd be impressed
It's not screen on time, but streaming Pandora or slacker for 8 hrs a day, facebook, web browsing, texts and calls throughout the day all with 4g running
I'm getting a replacement phone tomorrow so I wonder if that one can handle ics.

I had hell with ics on my phone was getting crappy battery life and some heat issues. I was getting upset because I couldn't get it to work. Finally got it up and running with good battery and hardly any heat. What I had to do was flash the ruu, go back to fastboot do factory reset, flash again, another factory reset and its now working. Most people say flash twice and do a reset but that didn't work so I did a reset between flashes and so far its doing good.
Edit added some pics. Those stats are with extended battery.

Refurb handles ics like a champ. 6 hours on battery and at 89. Old phone would have been at 60 on gb and dead on ics. Looks like a lot of issues I had on the old one weren't normal. Like flickering led for flashlight and USB port disconnecting if I moved it just a little, also my proximity sensor didn't always work. So far I'm happier with this phone.

Ready to throw my Amaze in the river

I have a serious love/hate relationship with my new Amaze. Yes, it's fast and the resolution is beautiful but at what cost? What good is the phone if it's constantly tethered to the power outlet?
I have read a lot of this forum and I know battery life is not one of the Amaze's best attributes, but I feel like mine is extraordinarily atrocious.
So any and all suggestions would be much appreciated as to what I can do to stop the drain.
I am running Speed Rom 6.0 JellyBean with faux's kernel.
I have all syncing turned off except for my gmail and WeatherBug every 4 hours. I don't play Angry Birds or any other games. I don't watch Netflix or YouTube. I don't even really make calls on the phone. Just SMS, light web surfing, email, and some audio streaming but always with the screen off. My network is T-Mobile and my bars are typically 3 or higher in a 4G zone so I don't think it's straining to find the signal.
I always use the phone at the lowest brightness level. I have the Save Power option turned on in my Quick Settings. In System Tuner I have the governor set to on-demand and the off screen mode to power save.
I don't run any widgets, live wallpapers, and my desktop is all black. I also purchased a larger 2450 mAh battery to replace the smaller OEM. I feel like I'm doing everything I possibly can to save on power but it's infuriating to be on the phone and actually watch my power level increment down.
What am I missing? Is there a better rom to run that'll save power? Is there a setting I've overlooked? Please help. I don't want to throw this phone in the river because I paid a lot of money for it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank You,
-golgiapp
weatherbug always drained my battery really fast on all my phones even with the refresh settings set to 4 hours. try your phone without that app for a few days. (when you uninstall it reboot the phone so all the phones processes are forced to restart)
and i get at least a full day on OEM battery with the phasebeam live wallpaper and like 5-6 3D htc widgets set to 30min refresh time.

I have already uninstalled WeatherBug and try the other kernel as well. Thank you for the info.

Call HTC tech support and very calmly.and.politely tell them.you have a severe battery drain issue. There has been a problem with OEM batteries mentioned before. I got my new battery and can go 12 to 14 hours with usage like you speak of. Be nice and calm though. And you will get better treatment.

my ankor 1900mhz is just as poor, but I know it's not the battery's fault (idle with data off, phone sips battery at around 1% per 3 hour drain)
@ OP, try turning off the data connection and sync off for a few hours... if the energy is still being used up, then it's the battery's fault... otherwise, it might be a misbehaving app... i'd say reinstall the rom
Undervolt is a good way, effects vary in every phone because not all chips are made equal. Disable background data on apps you don't regularly use, and limit background processes to 4 in dev settings

Could it be speedrom?
I find my battery is dying faster since I installed it. As soon as the screen is on my battery is going down very very fast.
I'm still with the stock kernel right now so maybe I'll try a new one and see if it helps.

So I switched over to Kozmiks kernel and I have noticed a significant improvement in my battery life. Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
One more question if I may, how do I disable the double lock screen? The ring pull is redundant with my pattern lock.

What Rom are you using with it? Is the WiFi stable and steady connection?

I am on Speed Rom 6.0 Jelly Bean. The wifi has never dropped its connection for me.
yeah, reflashing RUU and another ROM (Speed Rom) while battery at 100% solved my battery problem for now
16 hours with 1-2 hours used, now at 15%, data on, autosync on

I ordered better batteries.,anker 1800ma batteries
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
I'm suprised no one called BS on one fact.. the OP said he has a 2450mah battery.. who has seen one?! Never heard of it, if it truly says that, it is some knock off battery that is mislabeled, and tthat is likely the issue.
Always get 1900mah anker batteries, anything else.. well, we all have good results with anker as far as I've seen.
Otherwise I'd say reflash the ruu properly, at full battery, then flash rom, at full battery.. then report your results.

[Q] Samsung galaxy s3 battery

Im new to this forum thing so sorry if i do/type something wrong. Anyway, i got my gs3 few months ago, and the battery life lasts a day, when i had iphone 3g it lasted like 3 days without charging, so i wanna know if this is normal with everyone or i have to fix it. Yes its rooted with a costume rom.
How often do you use it? Which CPU governor are you using? Make sure it can deep sleep, because if it doesn't it will drain very quickly.
Deep sleep? First I'm hearing about that. Could I set that myself in the paranoid kangdroid ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Deep sleep is a built-in feature that reduces power consumption when you're not using the phone. There are some applications that will keep your phone awake (known as a a wakelock) even when the phone's screen is off. To find out more, get CPU Spy and Wakelock Detector. The former will show you how long your CPU is in each frequency and deep sleep, if at all. The latter will scan for apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
How much screen on time and other use does it get?
I get 3-4 hours of screen on time before I charge and that's a typical day for me. The newer and more powerful hardware is going to use more battery in general, too - compared to an older phone with much weaker hardware.

thank you, ive noticed my battery lasting longer. and also, do launchers like atom launcher reduce battery as well? i really like it but if i have to delete it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I experiencing the same with my new S3.
The same usage with my S2 lasted 2 days and now it's only one. I think it's maybe because the Omega rom I'm using.
May be Custom Rom isn't good. I think S3's battery must be better than I Phone

I don't think the launcher will make much difference. How long/much do you use the launcher?
im
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
so you think launcher or holo lock wont make a difference? if thats so it must be the costum rom installed on the phone i dont see anything else.. ill just take it to someone to change it hopefully it will work. not only that thw battery drains fast, it takes 7 hours ro charge..

If your phone lasts a full day, that's a miracle by today's standards. My S3 i9300 lasts about a full day also, with ~2 hours of screen time at most. Unless you have a Motorola Razr Maxx (3300 mAh battery) or a Note 2, you're probably not going to get over a day of battery life on any phone with anything over minimal usage. Also, don't let your battery die completely; don't go lower than around 20-25%. If you repeatedly do, your battery will overall hold less of a charge.
I suggest also that you turn on Power Saver if you're not gaming. Go into Settings -> Power Saver and disable the screen power savings (it limits the frame rate). This basically keeps the phone from going above 1 GHz (barely noticeable in terms of speed, but big battery savings).
Since you use a custom ROM, try messing with the min/max frequencies of your phone. My Samsung Galaxy SII has pretty good battery life; in this screenshot it's about 2 hours of screen time - 30 minutes of internet data, 30 minutes of music and the rest is miscellaneous gaming, videos, arranging apps etc. Oh yes, and a few phone calls, of course.

Click "Screen" to show for how long the screen was actually on. Overall that's good battery life though. Do you actually notice an improvement?

That's amazing. Seriously. 2.5 hrs and 54% left. That's nuts!

Battery life heavily depends on the brightness. Mine is at about 60% fixed brightness, and in the screenshot it was at 1 hour 52 minutes of screen time.
lol i thought that battery life was bad.. thx
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Don't expect too much from today's fancy smartphones. They are mostly form over function, and would rather have a slim body and unnecessarily fast internals rather than good battery life.
