I just bought a Thunderbolt, and decided to root and try some ROMs out before deciding to make it my daily driver.
Now that I'm ready, I need to take it into Verizon to get a SIM card, and need to know if I need to unroot it, or if I can just flash a Sense ROM (doubt any Verizon employee would know the difference).
Thanks!

I had lots of problems when I tried activating while I was rooted. I had to unroot, lock the bootloader, and have a Verizon tech do a master reset on the phone to get it to activate.

Is there any way I can perform this master reset myself?
No. You have to be on the phone with the tech and do a factory reset at the same time. You should first try to go back to stock and activate it normally. You will need a new sim probably.

I took a rooted HTC TBolt that was loaned to me into the Verizon store a few weeks ago to have it activated. I did get a lecture about how the warranty was voided by rooting (it wasn't under warranty any longer anyway), but they activated it no problem.
I traded a Droid charge for my tbolt and called support and had it switched to my account. It was s-off and rooted and it worked just fine. I know its a little different than op but i think you will be okay.

So i know there are other options available like Matt's Utility but it's been a curiosity of mine as to why every time I try to use RSD Lite(Regardless of whether I'm going to. 744,.748,.173, or .181) it fails and it says:
Size data returned by phone does not match what was expected.
Any input would be appreciated.

Are you starting with phone on, in PC mode, USB debugging and allow mock locations on the starting rsdlite?
Maybe try Matt's RAZR utility 1.6.

I put the phone in AP fastboot mode. Not sure why PC Mode,Debugging and mock locations would matter.

I've been trying to set up my Razr as a mobile hot spot for my kids nook when we are on the road. Ive tried different tethering apps and none seem to work on my Razr. Let me refrase that, they work but no networks show up when I try to connect to them with any device. I used barnacle wifi tether with my droid x so thats what I was inclining to use. On my Razr the app starts, but it gives me errors. Can someone tell what I can try or another app I can use.
Ive attached a screenshot.
By the way im on verizon, stock ICS and rooted.
Have you tried FoxFi?
No I haven't, I'll give it a try though..

+1 for foxfi
Been using it since I've gotten the RAZR and never had a problem

So do you think it's just an app thing and nothing wrong with my phone?

You could have had foxfi up and running in the time it took you to make this post. LOL
Try the APN Type trick first.Easy and no rooting beeded.
Good luck.

Yeah use FoxFi...SOOO easy
The only thing I don't like about FoxFi is the inability to keep it from croaking when something is connected to it. I am walking around with my phone making frog sounds. LOL
I tried foxfi at home and it gave me an error, tried it on my way to work and it turned on but I had nothing in my car to test it with. I guess I was Wi-Fi connected at home and that's why it showed an error..

LOL. Wifi Teether
Just use the in phone wifi tether since your rooted. The method is posted on the first page. It's better then foxfi and any third party wifi tether

Thanks for the tips, I tried foxfi. I did like 3 speed test with my touchpad. Then tried YouTube..that never opened..save thing with the browser..I'll give the other method a try.

Is this phone able to carrier unlock or am I doomed to have a phone with no service cause some asshole cut off my service
My Razr Maxx was unlocked and is currently operating on Mobi PCS. So I guess the answer is yes.

I have a droid razr im trying to get to work on mobi pcs, can you give me some insight on where to look for information? Everything works but data =/
I went to Advanced PCS in Pearl City. Ohana PCS at Windward Mall says they can do, but I've never used them before. I might give them a try next time (I'm a flash addict).

So, I've run into a bit of a predicament. A long time ago, I rooted my Razr on ICS. Perfect, loved it. After some time I started flashing ROM's. THis also went perfectly, that is until I tried updating to JB. I messed with the phone for a few weeks, decided I was fine on Simplex, and have been living with it like that ever since. Now, however, I can't boot into my stock ROM. In fact I deleted the entire system via SafeStrap, but I'm able to get into my Simplex ROM and everything works fine. Now I need to know if I can just download the update file for JB and flash that to the main ROM slot via SafeStrap, or if I have to SBF/Fastboot/whatever the phone. I've tried Fastbooting through RSD and through Droid Razr Utility 1.82 but to no avail. Is there anything I can do or am I just stuck on Simplex forever?

What happens when you use the Droid RAZR Utility? Where does it fail?

It doesn't necessarily fail, but after it completes the first step and says "hit any key after screen turns on" it just sits there and says "waiting for device." toggling the cable works, but I'm weary of unplugging it while it's going through the process.

I haven't, mainly because I haven't got a hold of one. The one I use now seems to work though. It charges and let's me transfer files.

Try to use a different one.. then redownload the Utility, the utility might have been corrupt.
