[Q] Clockworkmod without trackball - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I have an HTC Legend with an broken trackball (pressing).
With the ClockworkMod Version 5.0.2.0 you can only select with the trackball.
With an older version of Clockworkmod i was able to select with the power button.
Does anyone have the older Clockworkmod? Or can i modify my clockworkmod to select with the power button
Thanks in advance,
Maik Verheijen
P.S: my english isn't very good, sorry

I will try to remove the trackball, and then check if i can select with the power button

You can select menu items with the volume buttons. As for selection, like said, try removing the trackball and activating the input.
There is also CWM touch, free if you flash it manually.

Already fixed it.
I opened Rom Manager and had chosen the option: 'All Recoveries' (or something similar at the bottom) and installed the marked option.
Then I reverted back to CWM 5.0.2.0 and voila, it worked.
I don't think this solved my problem, think it was a loosen contact but i thought to share it.
Is there an CMW Touch recovery for the HTC Legend?
Thanks for your reply!
Maik

Step by Step guide to installing a Rom

After seeing the 20th question on "why am I getting a verification error", I thought a guide for new users would be helpful. So, here it is.
First, you need to be rooted. Instructions are in every forum. No offense, but if you can't do that, don't try to change your phone yet.
Next, install Clockwork. Instructions are here: Clockword mod installation. It takes awhile, so be patient.
IMPORTANT: When you are using Odin, DO NOT PUSH THE PHONE BUTTON! ONLY USE THE PDA BUTTON OR WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!!!!!
Download the Rom you wish to use, I've been on this one for several days, and it is really smooth. jt1134's Superclean D01
Plug you phone in to your usb cable, attached to your PC. Mount the sd card, put the downloaded Rom on to the card, and unmount the sd card.
Boot in to recovery. You can either use Rom manager to boot directly in to Clockwork,(Download from the Market) or turn your phone off, hold the volume up and volume down buttons in, and press the power button until the Samsung logo appears. Use the volume buttons to move to the "apply sdcard:update.zip" line, and push the home button. That will get you in to Clockwork.
When in Clockwork, if you push the home button, the screen shuts off. Just push it again to turn it back on. Use the power button in Clockwork to select your choice.
Use the volume buttons to scroll to "install zip from sdcard". Press power.
Go to "choose zip from sdcard". Press power.
Scroll to the rom zip you just put on you sd card. Press power. Scroll to "yes" and press power again.
The rom will install, and you will go back to the short menu screen. Scroll to "go back". You will be at the main menu with "reboot now" highlighted. Press power, and wait for the phone to reboot. It takes awhile for the first boot as the new Rom installs.
Presto! You have a new Rom!
If you want to install a voodoo kernel, follow the same steps to install it, except the install takes longer, and the phone talks to you.
If you to change Roms and have a voodoo kernel installed, disable it,Instructions in the first post, flash a stock kernel,Stock kernel(Thanks adrynalyne!), flash your new Rom, then flash the voodoo kernel again.
is the stock kernel really a stock kernel though? I compared it with the "Odin Restore files to get you to stock" thread and the data doesn't match up.
Nonetheless, thanks for this excellent write-up!
It doesn't have voodoo, which is all we need.
This should be a sticky!!
Do you really need to flash a non-voodoo kernel to switch between ROMs? I haven't left jt's Super Clean, but I kinda feel like doing anything more than disabling tge lagfix is overkill. I could just be outright wrong, though.

So far I've flashed and re-flashed several different roms. I've never used a stock rom in between. Maybe I've just been lucky but, for the most part, I haven't had any serious problems. I'm interested to hear others' experiences.

You need a custom recovery image download rom manager and flash the clockworkmod that way
I have done that, pressed the power and home button did a back up and rebooted the phone. Just to nake sure its working i pressed the home and power buttons again and got the red triangle screen again

Have another go at pushing the recovery image to your phone and try again.
Elelinux 7.0.0 is a nice GB rom... tweak the cpu speed n it will run fine.
I have tried that, same problem one back up then doesnt work
Is there annother way to put recovery one it ?
Thanks for that rom tho looks nice when it works gonna give it a bash

Try pressing up volume and power or down volume and power because I don't remember which on because I think that how to get off the screen with the triangle

If thats the only option on the screen, maybe your recovery image is corrupt, your using clockwork right?
I use AmonRA recovery, follow the 'root and recovery' section of this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Its easier than it sounds, You cant use Rom manager with this recovery image tho, you will have to download your roms manually and put them in the root folder of your SD card. (roms and updates come as a zip file)
Follow the instructions for the roms you want to flash, each has slightly different prerequisites i.e wiping different parts of your phones memory.
take care, have fun...
yep, i had the same issue 2 days ago, your customer recovery isn't working, and the home+power is taking you to the base one.
FINALLY WORKED FOR ME!!!!!
Used ROM manager to flash amonra recovery and did a custom rom flash straight away, then it has worked happily since
Running Elelinux 7.0.0 atm looks really cool

no ur version is 2.2.1 u cant root it using z4root
use gingerbreak instead it'll root ur cell phone and flash a custom recovery and choose a rom which ever u like and u r good to go..
and when ever u need to un root ur device just flash another froyo rom and use z4root to unroot it
simple.!!!
to make it more easy make a nand backup of an unrooted froyo app if u need it so hard....
but again to change ur rom from unrooted froyo rom u need to root again ur phone

Yes you can. The market is linked with your google account and it is not dependant on the ROM or phone.

The error message is perfectly fine and I get it all the time. To scroll the options in the recovery menu, use the volume up and down button. To select an option, press the 'Menu' button and the 'back' button is to go to previous screen/cancel a task.
Hope this helps.
thank you everyone. just rooted and install custom recovery
is there rom that will only need 2gb SDcard?

Use any rom that doesn't have darktremor's a2sd, for example, openOptimus, devoid, void #forever, CM7 etc.

Before Boot Animation

So I accidentally made my Photon boot into a black screen with my CWM options all in white letters. At the bottom it says "Cold booting Linux". I cannot select any options to go into Android recovery. Any one ever see/hear of this and if so, how do I fix it. Thanks in advance.

I should also add that every time I select android recovery, all of my options reload themselves and OS boot in 5 seconds appears.

You need to reinstall your recovery.. Via fastboot or bootstrap. One of those two should def work. Worst case scenario is a SBF back to stock, I had that issue and sbf'd instead of trying recovery install.. was stupid..
Edit : Nevermind. It does look like you need to fastboot flash recovery. Should only take a few minutes to do.
Mine does the same thing. When the phone first boots you have 5 seconds to toggle. Press the down volume button until it says recovery. Then volume up to select it. No need to flash recovery unless you miss the M bootlogo.
I got to this mode by partitioning emmc or something like that. I got into the partition menu in CWM and there was no go back option. It was an accident for sure, but hasn't affected operations. I just don't have the M while booting.

That is the same thin I get, however I cannot go into CWM. When I select it, it just reboots that menu. When I get back home today, I'm gonna install CWM like its my first time again. Thus time I can choose another color other then orange.

[Q] Controlling CWM without Volume Rocker

I need to flash a new rom, i was using MIUI but my phone is now stuck on the torch screen (even after pulling batter, it goes right back to torch). My issue is that i can flash a new rom or load a nanodroid because my volume rocker does not work. I can get into CWM through the power options on the phone but i can navigate inside CWM. Anyone have any suggestions?

You could try flashing cwm touch recovery
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
I have heard of that, but is there a way to flash it without getting into rom manager? As soon as my phone turns on it is stuck on the flash light app screen. I can hold the power down and get the power wheel but thats about it.
If you can access fastboot you could flash the recovery with fastboot.
Sent from my MB860 running Jokersax's CM9
The only two ways I know to get into fast boot are through the startup of the atrix using volume rocker(which i cant do). And using the power wheel, unfortunately MIUI doesn't have the option for fastboot in it's power wheel. Thanks in advanced for any help you provide.
Wow, you are kind of stuck here dude. What about trying with ADB? Im no ADB expert. but there may be a "reboot fastboot" command.
Yeah it sucks, i have never touched adb before. But i was thinking, there has to be a way to control CWM from adb. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Here's a site which installs touch recovery using adb. Hope this works.

thank you man, i fixed it by having a friend call me. but i will still install it.
Easy. Inside the newest romracer cwm use menu key for down, home key for up, back for back, and search for select.
