My phone is totally messed up. Even with a Jig resetting it, Download mode does not work.
Phone is off, battery is out. When I turn it on to go into download mode -- Instead of the Samsung Logo coming up and THEN going into download mode, it goes STRAIGHT into download mode from a black screen (something I've never heard of or seen before, anywhere)
While in download mode - I open Odin (kies and everything is closed, drivers work fine) -- nothing works. It doesn't say "added"
I can't figure out what is going on.
Basically I messed up the phone because i did a factory reset from within settings -- I never did it from CWM.
The whole thing is insanely messed up. Please someone help.

if ur phone is under warranty then better take it to a nearest Samsung service center
afraid you are a victim of the superbrick bug, only a new board will repair that if odin fails to connect.
superbrick bug ???????
also not sure how i can tell if it's under warrenty --- but when I go into download mode it says 0 binary count (thanks to the Jig) so
Do I have to have a receipt or something ?
Where would the closest samsung repair shop be ?
Also "-99.9% is the custom kernels however do not have this super brick bug. I can confirm these kernels don't have it"
Mine was running Siyah's kernel -- so it couldn't be a superbrick bug
Any other tips
what version of syiah kernel have you used? One older version had brick big in it as well.

This is not super brick bug at all, stop giving people false information. The brick you're referring to is done via recovery mode not via Android settings. Also when its bricked you cannot turn phone on at all.
@ OP
Try
Different USB socket
Different PC.
Re-installing Kies
Also, you didn't mention if you can go to recovery or not?

I have no probs turning the phone on.
1) Turn it on Normally --- samsung logo comes up -- phone goes black -- nothing happens (although curiously if I hit the home button the screen flashes pure white then pure black so strange)
2) Can't get into Recovery at all
3) If I go into download mode, the samsung logo does NOT come up -- the phone goes from power off STRAIGHT into download mode. Once in download mode though, nothing happens when connecting to Odin.
Now I've tried different computers, and Odin still doesn't work. It works with other phones (my friends have the same phone) so it's not a driver / USB slot / etc. issue
No one I have talked to has ever seen anything like this.
I'm just wondering if I should just send it back to Samsung Electronics Service Center in Canada -- I don't have a receipt though the phone is a like 2 years old.
But the Jig did reset it to it's original settings (no binary count)
So strange.

In that case you should just send it for repair. It looks like a hardware fault to me so they will likley replace mobo or JTAG fix possible.

hello experts
i had followed steps to root my galaxy s2 using odin flashing and it was success, and unlocked.
The phone started well with a yellow Exclamation.
and the phone was unlocked.
after a few minutes the phone was very slow and got stuck. i restarted it.
again stuck, restarted but it dint start again. i thought battry was low and put to charge.
but it dint charge as well.
So i showed the phone to a repairing center and they said its dead.
Any help that i can start my phone again ??
Thanks in advance guys :'(
Try reverting back to the stock unrooted rom.
Go to Sam firmware.com and download the stock from ..flash it via Odin.. search ..google is ur friend..Don't ask the repairing shop again for advice (phone is dead...duh)

If you have an official stock ROM with official firmware on it, the repair centre should change your mainboard and basically making your phone brand new.

which version were you on? Are you sure the rooting went okay?
The USB-Jig must work. especially on GB. it even works fot me on ICS.
When you can not get into download-mode (odin mode) ór recovery you can't flash anything..
Hope for you that your battery is broke. or maybe one of the processors... Still got warrenty?

if you have JTAG box you can repair your device using this.
Its normal device getting heat near charging/USB component. This is not HW problem.

He already said it won't boot normally, to recovery, or to download mode. JTag or warranty are his only options.
[A] Galaxy s2 bricked
You have to know smthng:
- It is always possible to get to download mode, if not through the button combo (home+power+Volume_DOWN), then through the USB Jig
- If your phone is bricked, the download mode might not announce itself through the android robot: the exclamation mark will persist in some cases. One indication is that ODIN will be recognizing your phone on the COM port (USB that is).
Notify me if you needed further assistance
Which instructions did you follow?
If those are wrong hopefully somebody else will see this and avoid those instructions.
Hey guys.
I made a stupid error last night when I tried going from ICS CM9 back to ICS STOCK LPQ.
I forgot to wipe data and just wiped cache and dalvik cache.
The connection broke whilst flashing through ODIN and now I have a blank black screen and the phone won't turn on...((( (It does technically as when I try pressing the on button later on the phone would get hot - meaning its on but BLACK SCREEN)
I have tried taking the battery out for hours and putting it back in...nothing is working.
I don't know what to do...I'm in uni where I have fast wifi. Please help. Any advice would be grateful
EDIT:
Ok.
So usb jig arrived this morning. Ripped it open. Popped my sgsII from charger (fully charged I think!) took battery out - 15 secs
placed battery back in.
Inserted USBJIG. . .
. . .
. . . . BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH
Nothing....Still the same. No screen activity...sad...
only way is either JTAG or Samsung service center right?
I used to have yellow exclamation mark + 4 counts....but they can't see anything so they won't know right?
or did the usbJig work but just the fact that I can't see anything on the screen??
...sad I hated seeing noobs flashing phones improperly and crying when it got softbricked....well even though mine is a straight hardbrick i still feel sad....noob
update.
I've taken it to SSCentre on tuesday. I called them yesterday and they said they couldn't fix it over there and had it shipped somewhere else...is that bad?
it could take upto 2 weeks!!!!!!
I rememeber the engineers working on my friends Galaxy S last year and they didn't have to send it to somewhere else. (he had the soft brick 3 yellow logo icons) and didn't have the version where the download/recovery mode didn't work) The engineer just flashed it with latest stock sgs firmware (ignoring that csc was orange lol)
Maybe my flash was so impeccable I fried the motherboard? I'm one kick ass bricker....

If you can get into download mode then there is still hope. If you can't then your only option is either warranty repair of Jtag service. If download mode then works then just reflash using Odin.
You flash i9000XXJVU to your i9100 phone? So you need JTAG or do service. Your bootloader is totally dead

.
Warranty is void with custom rom root or rom counter above zero .
Will they know yes counter is on 4 .
Will they ignore it and put it through as warranty they may but dont count on it .
USB jig would be the starting point .
That fails you could go to warranty repair if thats rejected then pay for JTag repair .

if you have adb maybe you could try:
1. Connecting your device to PC while turned off,
2. CMD > adb devices
* If you see your device connected, proceed with:
adb reboot recovery or adb reboot bootloader
* If you don't see any device connected, try googling for qhsusb_dload driver for your device, and after you install them (and maybe a couple of PC restarts) repeat step 2
3. if you manage to get to recovery, i hope you have your nandroid backup so you could restore them.
my HTC sensation 4G had this situation few days ago, couldn't go to recovery/bootloader, blanked out when turned on and had fever
i fixed it using those steps, i wish i could remember where i got the qhsusb driver thingy from.. i'll let you know when i remember.
edit: it might work on S2, or might not.. i don't know this will help or not, but you could read adb/fastboot/bootloader/android 101, maybe you could get something from there

The bootloader death thing is not 100% true. When I first got my phone, (when there wasn't any rom for it) I tried flashing a I9000 rom. I was so stupid and luckily it didn't break my phone. After the flashing it turned on and stayed on bootlogo.
It was a miracle for me!

Well just because the screen is BLACK does not mean that your phone is not in download mode.......i would put the phone into download mode and plug it up to odin anyway....see if goes yellow for the com port #
and if your accusing someone of blatently bricking your phone with a false file......you will be hard pressed to prove that here. i dont see ANY i7000 dev thread over here.
so just be a little more careful next time.
no i followed the links in xda that is supposed to be reputable
I used the att counter reset .zip NOT THE ROGERS NOT THE TELUS!!
And it said flash successfull.
when i reboot from cwm nothing nothing !!
and every other follow up said nothing but yay and awesome and worked perfect!
What gets me is wtf happened.
i can see it recognized when i plug into my pc and when i hold power button i can hear stuff on the pc but the screen has no response I tried to see if i could get a port to recognize by vol down and power but no com ports appear
Calm down, there is no reason to call anyone out.
You knew the risks of flashing beforehand. If your phone is recognized by the computer then it means it's not bricked. Don't just assume it's bricked. There are things called jigs, if you have done your search before freaking out.
Just saying.
Well ive also read that qhbusb dload is a bad sign meaning hardbrick
since it accepts the device as unrecognized
the screen of death so called is being described as what im dealing with on forums

Yep mine was in that state and a jig dint work, got it replaced by ATT cause they cant really figure with the phone in that state.
So just to confirm, you have blindly tried to get into download mode, you do have the samsung SGH-I717 USB Drivers installed on your machine, and ODIN does not recognize the phone? If you havent done all of that, start with the USB Drivers, then try to blindly get into DL mode via vol down+power from a hard off state. Wait for the vibrate then let go, with the drivers installed and the phone in "DL" mode Odin should recognize it. If it does you can flash back to stock with the appropriate files.
Hope that gives you a place to start.
Lojak et al: Flashing .....
YOUR PHONE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY........
Know who made the rom/kernel etc and read carefully BEFORE flashing things..... 99.8% of the ppl in XDA are good responsible members, just have to watch out for the exception.
But, bear in mind what you do to your phone is YOUR issue not anyone's here and....... caveat emptor is the advice Everyone can only offer. Many here might be able to help you resolve, just calm down and think it through, then post logically the issues and the members will offer some ideas up.... they always do....

I was under the impression that as long as the counter is 0 they won't know you've flashed it. Is this wrong?
its interesting to see how worried people are when it comes to a flash counter issue if you turn your phone in to be repaired/replaced under warranty.
when you think about the thousands of phones that go in weekly for warranty claims, do you know how many techs they would have to employ to start checking all the phones binary counters?
I'm sure that if any testing at all goes on, with a warranty claimed phone, is no more than just trying to turn it on, and if it doesn't come on, then its just moved on down the return line...
Obvious signs of abuse, would probably give them a reason to take a closer look, but how many people do any of you know that have warranty claims turned down because they flashed a custom rom?
I've been on phone forums for many years, and read thousands of posts, and I can't even think of a handful of times that I read about someone getting turned down for warranty repair/replacement because of their flash counter.
Hell, Sprint even has an official "policy" on how to handle warranty issues with rooted phones.
The yellow triangle annoys me, so I will try and get rid of that when it shows up, but I don't care what my flash counter says..
Hi there!
Actually, I've stopped trying to ressurect my phone about a month ago, but... maybe someone can help
Ok, what happened:
I was at exam and must shut my phone off. I did it. Some seconds later it booted again. So, I had to turn it off by holding the power button. After that it doesn't boot anymore.
Now the "facts":
- It was the Lite'ning Rom (I think 2.6) with the Kernel incl. as it bricked.
- It boots up to the yellow triangle and stops there.
- If I want to charge it - I see just a waiting-circle (like in windows), but it doesn't move at all.
- I can enter the Download mode, but only if I hold Volume Down + Power Button. If I hold the VolumeDown+Home+Power Button - it's just starting without entering the download mode.
- I can't enter the recovery mode. It's just gone...
- Kies doesn't see the phone at all.
- Odin see it and I can flash it. I can flash all the things I want: bootloader, kernel, pda. I can re-partition it, BUT:
- Now the interresting thing: Odin flash it and says, that all was fine. But nothing happens... Actually, I've already tried to "kill" it with the 3-part ROM for 9100G, but Odin says, that all was ok and nothing happens with the phone at all. It just ignoring all the flashs I tried.
- I have the USB-Jig, but it start the "Factory mode", and... see the point above.
- Already tried about 10-15 Rom (1-parted and 3-parted), with bootloaders and pits etc. Nothing happens.
I had the phone just for 3 months, and... yeah, 500€ are gone. I can't send it to Samsung service, because of triangle and counter > 0. And I can't remove this triangle and set the counter back.
Anyone have any ideas I can try? Maybe someone already heard about issue like that? Is it the famous "eMMC brick"?
Thx in advance!
I don't know if this is due to the EMMC bug. But it sure does sound like a hardware issue.
Have you tried flashing Factory / Stock firmware via Odin? I had a similar issue some time back with my Galaxy Tab but flashing stock firmware, rebooting to recovery and clearing cache etc then fixed the issue.
Good luck man!
Maybe send it in for warranty service/replacement & play dumb in the first instance. Always a chance they won't care/notice you trashed it. If they do & decide to charge you, ask for a quote & for the phone back. Then take the phone to local mobile repair shops & see how much they want for repairing the phone. You can also then compare the costs of having Samsung/authorised repairer or local mobile repair shops with the costs of having the phone JTAG'd (assuming it can be JTAG'd). Lots of JTAG repairers can be found with a Google search, not necessarily in your country, but will still likely be cheaper than having Samsung/authorised repairer fix it.
Try to flash a bootloader for a different device (Note for example), and after that to repartion the device also with pit for Note or something similar. I think that there is a good chance that you succeed in killing the phone completely, and then you can send it to service and play dumb.
Find someone with a riff box and get it j-taged

I've already called JTAG-Service I found in my country, but the guy on the phone said "you can send it to us, we will try to fix the issue, but you will see - you will get your device back without any changes." In addition, he said, that my phone has some bad sectors in header of internal memory and it's nothing to do with it. The only option is to change the mainboard.
I'll try to kill it with Note's firmware, if it's not going to work - will try to send it for repair. But the chance, that guys from samsung will ignore the triangle and counter ist actually... yeah, it low ^^
Thx again for the advices!

looks like the advice from MistahBungle is the last hope
Hi there,
Firstly sorry if I have posted in the wrong place, i'm not too good with forums and or technology. About two weeks ago, my sister had passed me down her old Samsung Galaxy S2 which she had been using for more than a year. She's had no problems with it what so ever. Up until today, I was browsing the internet, when the internet 'app' crashed and gave me a pop up saying 'internet browser has stopped responding' or something to that affect. It then followed by a black screen where I was not able to do nothing apart from stare at the screen. I popped out the battery, waited a couple of minutes and put it back in. The screen came on with the Samsung logo, but nothing happened from there on, it was frozen. So I repeated the process one more, and now the phone does not turn on at all! I really hope someone can help me out here.
The phone has never been rooted/flashed or had anything done with it.
I have tried leaving the battery out for a couple of hours, still nothing.
I've also swapped batteries and nothing happened.
Tried booting in recovery/download mode and nothing happened either.
I've also tried connecting it to my PC where nothing happens.
I'm hoping someone can help me here, I've only had the phone for two weeks and it's already broken! My sister had it for a year and no problems! Bump.
Thanks in advance,
So can you boot into recovery or download mode? Without either of those two there's nothing you can do apart from take it to a service centre. If you have download mode then you can flash a stock ROM using Odin.
Else, do you have warranty still as it's a year old? If you do, take it to the service centre under warranty.

Tried a Jig to see if it enters Download mode?

Sorry if I sound like a noob, but what is a jig?
Thanks
Are you sure it's out of warranty? Samsung offers a 2 year warranty in some countries (afaik everywhere in the EU)
My Wife says I'm a phone geek.....
I'd have to agree.....
Click the link in my signature and look at the section for 'no download mode'.. Try that section. Some users report being able to boot into download mode after trying those things.
Edit: And look on eBay for 'i9100 usb jig'. Its a way of attempting to force into download mode

Thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately none of those methods worked for me, i'll try the USB jig and report back. If that doesn't work i'm guessing the motherboard is the problem right? Is Samsung able to repair the phone for me even if its out of warranty but with a cost? If so, how much do you think it will cost?
Thanks
You tried all of them in 15 minutes? Give them another go, it can take a few goes sometimes if you don't get it quite right. Otherwise, yes try the jig, but don't pin your hopes on it. Yes, they can repair it. The other (cheaper) option is to buy a handset with broken screen off eBay or similar and switch your motherboard. I'm sorry, I don't know the costs :/

A little solution
Plug in ur usb to the PC as the device is off....it should remain off for this...
Plug in and see if its charging via pc.....As for it to charge..it has to go through the repair which happens internally without you need to do anything...
A triangle should appear before charging icon appears..As it appears,, just right after that flash ur rom via odin disconnect dont boot now wait n again do the usb charging trick.....
Then boot it should probably be working up again..Well it worths for a try.......
Do it n post it.
Tried rooting my s2 using odin. went into download mode then connected the phone. and clicked start. according to the instructions for rooting from youtube , it said the phone would restart after it said PASS on Odin. After it showed PASS it didnt restart even after a very longtime. so i disconnected.
Now i get the samsung logo with a triangle below. I m able to go to download mode.
Pls help guys

Did you check the AUTO REBOOT option in Odin? Did you try to remove the battery for a couple of minutes and reboot?
Yellow triangle is normal
PLEASE READ THE FAQ said:
Q4: When I turn my phone on, I see a yellow triangle. What is it and how can I get rid of it?
It will appear if you have flashed a non-official kernel from download mode. If you flash kernels using CWM recovery, Mobile Odin etc. you won't get this yellow triangle.
The easiest ways to remove it are to use the app Triangle Away OR use a USB Jig.

Hi there:
I had bought the device in June 2011
I had the same problem about 7 months back and did as you suggested, was able to recover the firmware.
Now, I am facing the same problem today, my device started and was stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S2 logo.
Did the same thing again, the animated android logo appeared, and after some time the device was off.
I have been trying to get the device to switch on , but to no avail, the device is not even powering ON.
Device info: Unrooted , OS: 4.1.2
Please advice. Kindly treat this as urgent.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Siddharth

Phone not booting at all/charging/no signs of life = Samsung service centre or local mobile repair shop for diagnosis. Nothing anyone here can suggest beyond that if the phone won't even bootloop or be in a state where it's 'user fixable'.

Sorry For the late reply.
I guess, you need to boot in recovery
with home + power+vol up
and clear data and reboot
if that doesnt help.
try booting in download mode again and flash the firmware.
but let it charge first.
and post here

Tried everything , the phone is not even powering ON.
I checked with service center , they are asking INR 8000 to replace the motherboard.
I'm instead thing of buying S4, should I ?
please advice guys.
My phone is dead too...
I left it on (functioning normally) and went for a bath, when I got out it was dead...
From functioning ok to nothing in a few minutes, I don't have any idea why. Is it really the motherboard?
Fact: Electronics breaks. All the time. All electronics.
MJDdeLacerda - Take it to a local mobile repair shop for diagnosis, unless you're experienced with this type of electronics, nothing you can do.
