[Q] bugging camera crashes after root - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after rooting my S3, the camera seems to crash ALOT and i particularly bought the S3 for its amazing camera.
it bugs the hell out of me.
im using AOKP build 5. and still the camera has been crashing alot unexpectedly and wont be fixed until i reboot the device.
i like my S3 rooted and customized to my preference.
is there a way to fix the camera crashing issue? another custom ROM? or an individual main and basic system camera app that doesnt crash?
or the only way is to UNROOT my device, which would be my very last solution.
what should i do?
please advice

If you bought the S3 for its amazing camera, why are you on AOKP? Every AOSP-based ROM has a not-so-amazing camera, when compared to the stock camera, of course, and AOKP is no exception.
Please change the title of the thread. It's misleading. Camera does not crash on rooting the phone. Incorrectly flashing a ROM with a not-so-amazing camera does.
If it's the camera you want, go back to stock and enjoy!

Does rooting but keeping the stock ROM affect the camera in any way?
Thanks

None whatsoever, unless you go in and mess with the camera files.

[Q] slow camera

Hi, I've been using a number of ics roms since it was released and am currently on wanam v 12. I was wondering if anyone else has had a very slow response from the stock camera since moving to ics, never had any problems with gingerbread. The camera takes a picture normally but takes several seconds to finally respond and able to take another picture. Any advice?

Probably not the advice you're looking for, but try miui rom, specifically cmiui. The camera is really nippy on that one.
It may be a CM9 camera apk that's installed in cmiui. You could see if you could track down the apk on its own if you don't want to flash another rom.
And I know what you mean, every ics rom has given me bad lag with taking pics.

The GS2 doesn't have zero-shutter lag, but I am not experiencing a few seconds worth of lag as you are.
Try clearing data in App Info, which will hopefully fix your issue.
Try alternative cameras on the Play Store, namely Camera ICS.
Report back and tell me if that fixes anything.
Hey thanks for the advice! I cleared data on the app and is way faster now.

Should probably offer some insight as to why not.
Anyway, to answer the question, no, no you cannot. The Samsung camera app has parts that are embedded within the touch wiz framework and simply will not work. My wording is probably off but it boils down to that. Even if you did manage to get the camera.apk from the stock ROM, it would probably just force close. You're best bet would be a ROM that uses some aokp parts along with touch wiz.
Thanks for the replies.
I ended up finding a camera in the Play Store, its called HDR Camera, and I took pictures w/ stock AOSP ICS Camera, TW Camera and HDR Camera, and the quality of the HDR is AMAZING!!!!! It doesn't have the same amount of features, but the quality is great.
Aokp Camera
Does this camera have the same shutter speed as the stock camera, or does it just apply default from the processor.

Android 4.2 Camera + CM10 (Jelly bean) epinter - white screen ??

Hello everyone,
I have just installed the Camera 4.2 APK (in zip via the recovery) but I cannot use it ...
If I launch the stock version of the camera I have no problem to take a picture (except somtimes with the flash as this often result to a greeny picture.)
BUT
with the amazing 4.2 Camera it is simply impossible to take a picture as the screen is 'White'. The buttons (function button) are accessible (but it is not possible to take a picture even if i hear the confirmation sound)...
Anyone has an idea on how to solve this ? or maybe am i using the wrong 4.2 camera ?
Please note that the gallery associated to that 4.2 Camera is also not working ... I have to use the stock one ...
Thank you in advance for your help;
Kind regards,
Scarymover
Sorry for my poor english
I have same prob and so do others. We just may not be able to use it. Camcorder doesn't work either. That's why I came back to gb though I love Epinters rom. Only app that's somewhat okay for video is videocam illusion.

Epinter doesn't have the Motorola drivers. I doubt there is going to be a fix for that.
Atrix seems to be bad from bad..... I don't want to change my phone I have bought 3 months ago... But as from now I'm really frustrated by this motofail device! Pffffff

[Q] samsung stock camera on an aosp rom(root box)

Ho everyone, I've been having a great time with root box. I was a bit discouraged about using an aosp rom(because of all the extra features that Samsung roms have (ultima rom ) but the multitasking lag that I suffer from it was gone the moment i changed to an aosp rom. I miss some things about samsung roms, but otherwise I quite happy I did the change. But the only thing that I think is the best for me is the Samsung camera app. It has far superior quality and functions over the aosp one even though its faster in opening. But it lack the low light conditions that the Samsung one has(and don't tell that they has the same quality because it doesn't)
So to sum it up I wannna know if i can have the Samsung camera app over my rom( root box for the ones who skipped my intro) or something that I could do to use that camera. I know that there are some persons out there that could have the same question so i hope this can help them and that somebody gives any idea, thanks.

Not possible.
Samsung camera will only work on TW ROM.

So it's practically impossible. Anybody has any kind of suggestion?

No matter what camera you install, all will act roughly the same. Completely the same regarding lowlight conditions.
If you need a better camera, go back to Crapwiz.

Well by seeing the suggestion you are giving i will try to do dual boot with siyah kernel with a tw rom. Any suggestions about a light one, just to use the camera.

Well you could compile the camera apk with all the dependencies built into it (harder than it sounds). We did it back in the S1 days.

Vanilla Rootbox V3.9.1 Camera Flash Bug

Hello XDA. This ROM (rootbox 3.9.1) is supposed to be stable, but when I turn on flash or automatic flash and I touch to focus then shoot, the camera app lags and force closes (and doesn't take the picture). This is annoying in so many ways, and makes it virtually impossible for me to take pictures in low light. Please help me address this issue for it is killing me and I don't feel like downloading a whole new ROM, flashing it and reorganizing all my settings all over again just to fix this issue. I also had this issue with CM10.1 (but that was normal, cause it is a nightly).
Anybody else have this issue? And possibly a fix?
Thanks in advance.
Also: inb4 "search the official root box thread". I did, and nobody seems to have this issue.

As far as I know this issue was fixed a couple of days ago in the CM Nightlies so maybe the Vanilla Rootbox base hasn't been updated yet or you aren't using their latest update.

Didn't work. what version of this aosp camera are you using? And with what ROM? I got the latest version. And it still crashes.

Actually I've found a way to bypass this problem. If I turn on the volume key to take pictures function, autofocus with flash on and take the picture with the volume key, it doesn't crash. I guess I'll just have to live with it like this for now, oh well.
OK now how do I close this thread? Or there's no such thing? Can any mod or janitor or whatever help me out here? I'm new here
