Hej fellow Dane
Just follow this guide step by step its excellent and proven always to work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
Then you will have your phone rooted through the kernel and the necessary CWM (recovery) installed - !
After that dl your chosen rom + kernel and reboot into recovery flash rom zip file then kernel zip, reboot and voila welcome to JB 4.1.2
And since you are a newbie (we all were once) i suggest you dont flash through odin/heimdal but only through CWM until you get more experience overall !!
Then you will be ok
Suggestion of a very good rom+kernel is >

Hi all ok ask away
Yes first clockwork recovery first then boot into cwm (clockwork)then what rom you choose - and i should think its pretty similar to what ever recovery's you've seen, at least in Principe of how it get things done!
You can boot from os to cwm through rooted kernels, by holding power button and choose reboot, that will give you two options to reboot or into recovery (no need for the combo buttons)
Edit: in CWM there´s a menu and one option is install zip from sd card (nternal/external) and then you browse through your sd with volumebutton (or in the new CWM you'll get when flashing a JB kernel a touch recovery - awesome by the way )

see the problem I have is I cant do what the steps describe as it requires I turn on my phone and see what build it has, and copy zip files to internal storage....so only option I have I think is odin

Ohh yes this way wont do then - you have to get a stock sammyrom with a pit,md5 or sometimes called tar file and make sure you tick repartition in odin before flash - then you will have a working OS and can do the above steps!
Or mayby better her

Yes you're right be careful with that, if its necessary, it will be auto ticked when loading the pit file, dont tick it other than guide from dev says so=
But always read the dev´s guide carefully, right

To get CWM again do this >
*Installation
1. Download Odin3 and CF-Root-SGS3-vxx.zip
2. Power off your phone
3. Boot into download mod (Press vol down + Home + Power on)
4. Unzip CF-Root-SGS3-vxx.zip. You need to end up with a .tar file, dont extract .tar file.
5. Open Odin
6. Select PDA as CF-Root-SGS3-vxx.tar
7. Connect the phone to your computer
8. Make sure that re-partition is not ticked
9. Click Start Button
10. Wait for phone to reboot.
Link>http://speedy.sh/kcqvD/CF-Root-SGS3-v6.2.tar
Now you successfully installed CWM + Super User + CWM Manager.

[Q] Help w/ unbricking Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi, HELP!

Yeah, I know there are threads similar to this one, but I have not found the answer on those, so here is my own.
I was running StarBurst ROM and I decided to flash a faster Kernel, so I used one of Pershoot's Kernels, "AnyKernel" or something like that. Well, afterwards, I rebooted and the boot animation has been replaying over and over again. I can still access Recovery and Download Mode, so I'm wondering if somebody can help me out from there? I think I have learned my lesson, lol... Somebody please respond to this.
if your able to get into the recovery, do you have a backup that you can restore?

No... This is where I think I messed up... I hope there is another way of doing this.
I'm not too experienced in this area, so wait for more reply's before you do anything, but have you tried flashing the rom again?

Understood, thanks for replying though, much appreciated and I would have, but I'm not sure if I can get access to the device's storage through recovery or any other way with it being soft-bricked, I haven't saved the ROM file in storage either.
Have you tried deleting cache and data in recovery mode? try installing a stock rom (basically a stock kernel) and reflash the startburst ROM.
1)FLash via odin (refer first thread for available stock ROMS in developer section)
power+volume down key > right icon
OR
2)Via CWM recovery(accessing internal memory):
If clockworkmod recovery is intact (else flash via ODIn, link first thread developer section)
try adb commandline:
c,d,e:\wherever is adb.exe\adb push firmware.zip /sdcard/
than install the firmware.zip(first thread developer section) by choosing the appropriate option in CWM recovery!

Yes, I done that right after I realized I was bricked. & I would, but I do not know of a way to gain access to files via computer with my tablet being bricked, do you know of a way?
Sorry, did not see the rest of your post. Can you post that in simpler terms?
CORRECTION<easiest way>:
Download stock rom (search exactly for PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar.md5)
Flash the ROM with ODIN (you probably know what odin is!)
>to flash with odin enter download mode in tab (power +volume down > left icon selected with left key and confirmed with right volume key)
HURRAY! now flash starburst as you did very first time.

I agree with Mug. if your familiar with adb this is the method i would try. You can push the 3.1 stock zip to your sd card and it will be there to flash with CWM.

Okay, I mostly understand now. I know what Odin is, but I'm not sure how to flash the ROM through it. I'm looking at it now, where do I put this at? PIT, BOOTLOADER, PDA, PHONE, CSC? & What options do I check?
recheck the rom to be downloaded, its NOT the zip one mentioned before. Once you get the referred rom(PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar.md5) in corrected post, put it in pda, default selections of odin and start flashing.

Sorry my friend. There is no Odin flashable stock rom file yet. I know for a fact a dev by the name of IronHide is working on one. He told me himself it will be ready in a few days.
Are you familiar with adb? Do you have the android sdk on your computer?
There are three stock odin flashables,
1)PDA_SIGNED_P7105.tar.md5
2)STOCK euro (uploaded by me)
3)STOCK arabic (uploaded by me again)
I assert the OP to search and flash the first one as its non touchwiz and native US retail version. The numerical error (7105 for 7510) was made by the original poster who posted the rom.

Phone stuck on Galaxy SII logo in boot

Hi there, I'm panicking right now.
I just rooted my phone using a tutorial online and it was no problem and everything worked fine after that.
Then I used another tutorial to flash my ROM to CM7 and that's when I started to have problems.
I booted into ClockworkMod Recovery (holding volume up + home + power) and wiped data and chache partition, then I select "Install zip from sdcard" and chose CM7 zip file which I had put on to my sd card, I get a message that installation was successful.
But now I can't access my phone, it's stuck at the Samsung Galaxy SII logo.
I have wiped data again and used Odin to flash a stock ROM on to my phone but it doesn't work.
I need help guys.
EDIT: This post doesn't matter now, there is a new reply at page 3 with new problems.
Did you use a .pit file a repartition when you flashed a stock ROM with ODIN again? What do you mean the phone doesn't work? Does it bootloop or still stuck on the startup logo?

Well the phone did bootloop at one time and I fixed that by flashing a stock ROM on the phone with Odin, did not use a PIT file.
Now the phone is just stuck on the white Galaxy SII logo and I was hoping that flashing the phone again with stock ROM would also fix that.
I did not use a PIT file for that either.
Please reflash with a stock ROM that contains DBDATA and use a .pit file for repartitioning... That should fix your phone!

Yep!
@OP Download this package : http://hotfile.com/dl/130600047/b70801e/I9100XXKI3.rar.html
And then, in ODIN, put :
.PIT -> PIT
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
Toggle repartition, and those 2 standard ticks. DO NOT TICK ANYTHING ELSE.
That WILL fix your phone Bootloops means that you soft bricked it. Flashing a new ROM + PIT always fixes a bootlooped device.

Also, I tried flashing to CM7 again with ClockworkMod Recovery and it now said:

Installation aborted
Is that bad?
The amount of bad advice in this thread is shocking.
Do you actually have an I9100?
My first thought from your original post is that you didn't flash twice in succession, and the flash you did do was practically instant.
Regarding your last post, status 7 is usually when you're trying to flash something not meant for your device.

Thanks man! You saved me!
I was seriously going to stay up all night trying to fix this and skip school tomorrow...
But I still want a custom ROM
Is there a better way than booting into ClockworkMod Recovery and installing zip file from sd card?
Also, any idea about why all this would happen to me? I got all the tutorials on an Icelandic forum where a person with the same phone did exactly what I was going to do and it worked perfectly for him, and I have gone over the steps many times, I did not screw up.
How to flash CM7
1) Flash a kernel with CWM, CF-root will do
2) Download CM7 zip and put it in your internalSD card
3) Boot into CWM
4) Flash CM7 zip
5) Reboot into CWM
6) Flash CM7 zip again
7) wipe cache/data/dalvik cache
6) reboot and wait for upto 10min for it to boot.
You HAVE to flash the CM7 zip twice.
Also you NEVER need to use the .pit, also never tick repartition, a bad flash with repartition ticked is a one way street to hardbrick land.

1. Flash a stock ROM via ODIN
2. Flash CF-Root via ODIN
3. Flash a custom ROM such as CM9 via CWM Recovery

The stable build is much older and actually less stable than the newest nightly.
Also you can restore user apps with titanium backup, just not system apps.

My phone is really starting to annoy me now.
I put a stock ROM on the phone and then flashed CF-Root and when I boot up in CWM and select something it just displays the loading sign and then I hit the power button and I'm back on the main menu of CMW, doesn't matter what I select it only displays the loading sign and it doesn't go away.
It really sucks, I had put all the CM9 files on the SDcard and was ready to go.

Don't panic dude, it happens sometimes Keeping cool is the key to fixing your phone without making it worse than it already is... I can't count the times this has happened to me already, and there ain't nuffin like a good 'ole repartitioning to set things straight (and show the damn contraption who's boss around these here parts.. I hate those stupid machines to whom nobody has ever taught that Man's genius INVARIABLY always triumphs over dumb and inert matter.. )
(although I almost never flash the whole ROM back on : most times flashing the .PIT file and rebooting the device does the trick -unless it's an installed app which caused the trouble in the first place, in which case you're better off starting over from scratch than wasting time trying to debug the problem)
N.B : don't forget to flash the "old bootloader" too, AFTER you've flashed the PIT and rebooted the device (or at least rebooted the recovvery, to check that it boots off a valid partition), I've noticed the new one can give a lot of weird and unpredictable behaviors when used in conjunction with root and a CMx ROM.

I was going to ask : have you flashed the CM rom twice, and flashed the google apps pack BEFORE even rebooting the phone ? It's almost always mandatory to do this precise sequence, the installation routine of the CM ROM is not quite perfect -far from it, actually..

Stuck at "Samsung" boot screen after ICS update and Root

Hello all,
I successfully flashed the official ICS update and tried to root via Odin. Now my Note wont boot up past the "Samsung" boot screen. Apparently, I flashed a kernel meant for a Gingerbread build. Is there an ICS root kernel yet? If not, how do I reset what Ive done? Thanks :crying:

you might have to re-flash...
what most and I have found works....is odin the touch cwm....then flash the super user for root...
I did this and it worked great.
Bottomline you may have re-flash the Offic ICS then perform the above, btw the links you will need are locted in "My Links" in my signature (red) go to the GNote page and look for the touch CWM then put the super user flash zip file and flash that...you will have root on your Offic ICS...kk
Can I get your link for the super user and CWM touch a buddy of mine want his root back on his note and can u brake it down in instructions on how to do this method? I really appreciate that if you can.I haven't been on Samsung device in a while so I wouldn't know what I am doing again on that part for the note.

From CWM OP:
Download the odin "file">>>>2012-04-14 (odin) off the above link and the "odin program" see attached on this post.
Take the attached odin program on this post of mine...put in a folder...upzip and put this (odin file that is on the link above in the same folder)
How to install:
Odin (this will increase the flash counter)
- put your phone into download mode >>>>>>hold the volume down and power button....then once you get the download info volume up like it says...you will see the green android...you are in download mode, plug in your phone open odin program
- in odin program choose pda, and select the .tar.md5 file (that you put in the odin folder) and flash/ hit start button....

Then once you have CWM, download this file super user from above and put on your phones internal sd and flash it, to get into CWM, but first put file on the phone inter sd....power off phone...completely.
Hold the volume buttons and power buttons all at the same time....when you see the samsung logo let go of the power button only...keeping both volumes button down...then you will see blue cmw...just go to the intern sd find your super user file flash it...since this touch cwm you can touch the sceen and use the soft keys on the phone, ...the back button...after flash, just reboot..and you have root.

Mr. Joe you should just copy-paste these instructions and make a stickie. I think this is the 500th time I've seen it explained.

Root question Follow-up
bigjoe2675,
Thanks for all your help. After I failed to flash back to Gengerbread, I brought it back to AT&T and had it exchanged for a new phone.I have since upgraded to ICS and everything is running fine.
I would like to root it "correctly" this time and am trying to figure out where I should pick up from your instructions. Should I simple flash the .tar.md5 file and and use superflash? I guess Im confused as to what superflash does.
Thanks

I have those listed also in the GNote super page...see green arrow on that page
what I did was odin to get touch cwm, then I flashed the super user zip...
super user will give you root...
see those links under the green arrow on the GNote Super thread, k

you might have to re-flash...
what most and I have found works....is odin the touch cwm....then flash the super user for root...

Hi guys, i have the same issue. I tried to root my bell galaxy i717 with the pda file. Everything went well until i got stuck in samsung logo. I tried some other files , like touch cwm tar but nothing change. Is there anyone who can give me a big help.
Anything!
I'm trying to fix a friend's note(sgh-i717r) and it won't boot into recovery. When pressing the button combo, it just keeps vibrating and when I let go its stuck on the samsung logo. All I can do with it is go into download mode and connect with odin. How can I get to at least boot so he can actually use the phone?

[Q] Which root thread do i follow ?

Hi viewers, i'm sorry if this is a spam thread but i'm kinda of a newbie here... so i'm wanting to root my mega i9205... and i've seen quite several threads on how to root but i'm having trouble on which to follow ... so can anyone kindly direct me to the working and recommended thread for me to root ? Thank you
Depends on your exact phone model and the kinda rom you are running now. More info required.
Ohh... i just want to root but i'm currently on pure stock, out of the box and its a mega 6.3 gt-i9205

Hi..you can just use Kingo Root from this thread which is really simple to use, but i see the link for the program is now working again in that post, but you can get the program in my post also here as it will work on your model of the mega and use either the CWM or TWRP recovery from Silesh.Nair post here and in his signature use the downloads link and once on the download site and then select Recoveries via Odin and then select Old and there you can choose either CWM or TWRP recovery to flash with odin (i use Odin 3.07) and flash the .tar file with Odin and check my post here on how to use Odin, hope this helps you out and if you need more help just post.
Just tried it! Thank you so much... it worked like a charm :victory:

Grab the recovery in Silesh signature or philz touch cause you will needing to use it anyways with the 4.4 ROMs
*2SHAYNEZ*KCCO*
Hi..well first i would do is re-flash the recovery (either the CWM or the TWRP one, depends on which one you use) with odin and uncheck reboot option in odin, but when it is done flashing unplug your device and reboot your device into the recovery right away again as this has to be done in order for the recovery to work properly and from the stock recovery being installed by the device again.
The red lines can be taken away once you have your recovery flashed you have to flash the stock kernel from your rom with odin (recheck the reboot option in odin) which is the boot.img file and it has to be converted to a .tar file to be flashed via odin, you just have to get the stock rom for your region and unpack the zip file and then extract the boot.img file from the rom file which it usually comes as a .tar.md5 file or just a .tar file also. Just use winrar to extract the boot.img file and if you can do this and upload that boot.img file i can convert it for you if you like.
But even if you flash the stock kernel which may take twice to flash to get rid of the two red line when booting up your device, but when you go into recovery mode the two red lines will still be there i believe as your model of the mega is different than mine and my does not show this, only booting recovery in blue shows on my i527m version of the mega..hope this helps you out.
Try the re-flashing of the recovery and see how the phone boots into the rom after that as you might have to clear the Dalvik Cache with the recovery as this sometimes can correct boot problems when clearing this.
Hi starmaster10, shayneflashindaily, thx for all ur help but i've come to a decision to maybe not bring u the trouble to keep helping me, currently i'm still facing that problem with occasional stuck at boot... so i shall just restore back to stock... i just need your help getting me my official firmware which is SINGAPORE XSP OR MM1if that is ok :/ ... my ip doesn't seem to allow me to access to download those links from any site... thank u

Do you mean you can't even get into recovery? If it can, I would think a data wipe might get the ROM to be able to boot.

You might want to double check if you are using the right version of recovery that kernel is fully supported with your ROM. For example, if you are trying to install a KK ROM using an old version of CWM you will end up in error 7 or end up in a boot loop screen. My words are pretty mess up but I hope you get what I mean. So make sure you have the right version that match each other (recovery, kernel, ROM).
Hope that helps.
im new to all of this. when i hold the home button the power button and the vol down button i get a screen telling me installing a custom os could be bad press up to continue i do this and install even the official software but when it reboots it keeps looping on the samsung logo

I suggest you flash a working recovery via odin first. Look for TWRP, it's the best newbie-friendly recovery or try CWM if you are looking for more advanced options. After that, flash a stock or custom ROM to get your phone back working. Make sure they are compatible with each other. Why didn't it work when you try flashing the stock firmware via odin? Make sure the zip file is downloaded properly.
Hope that helps.

It seems like you have broken files. Make sure those firmwares are for the right model of your phone. Are you using I9100 or I9100G? Is your phone still under warranty? What do you mean by not network based? I think it's time you head on to NeatROM JB 4.1.2 Aroma and flash that to your phone. It's way better than the stock one from Samsung. If you don't know how, read the instructions from the OP.
Hope that helps.

This error is most probably because you don't have the right Rom for the right model or not compatible hence the verification error. Are you doing this in recovery mode? Make sure you follow the installation instructions properly and download the right one for your phone model. Just try cyanogenmod for starter. Installation is easy to understand.

ok so i went to cyanogenmod downloaded the newest file for the s2 when i did unzip i get 2 folder meta-inf and system plus a boot.img file. i burned the boot file to a disc but when i check it the disk is empty even though i can see its burned. also when i go to sammobile to get firmare it says no files available...therte must be some way of getting this to work H E L PPPPPPPPPPP
Dude, you're not supposed to be burning anything to discs. The zip file is what the recovery uses to install from. It should include the custom kernal too.
Copy the zipped ROM file to your SD card, put it in your phone and boot into recovery. Assuming you've already flashed the latest custom recovery CWM or TWRP (I prefer TWRP)
From here, to be safe, do a full wipe (That's everything except sd-card: system, data, cache, dalvik-cache)
Now you install/flash the zip file via recovery. Hopefully that completes without error. After that clear cache and dalvik-cache again just to be sure (I do this out of habit)
Reboot.
Hope this helps. I saw you mention something about "efs" and that gives me a bad feeling, read something about needing to back that up before bad things happen. But anyway, good luck :good:
