Newest blacked out gapps? - HTC Droid DNA

Will any package from the internet work
Sent from my Droid DNA. 1080p never looked so sweet.

You should be alright however some of the apps may not be fully functional. Also you might end up with duplicate apps in your drawer which is easily fixed. Just make a backup and flash away my friend!

[GSB] Problems/Question

I recently upgraded to GSB v2.1 from my previously non-rooted bog standard Eris and am amazed by what I had been missing out for. I'm still pretty much a complete newbie to the whole custom ROM thing though, and have a few questions that may be quite stupid.
1) I'm getting force close crashes w/ the Facebook app. It'll load for a second and I'll see my news page, then force close comes up. Do I just need to reinstall or ... ? Edit: Facebook seems to be loading now, without force close issues. The problem was very repeatable (every time I tried to open the app!) last night, but seems gone today. Ah well, good riddance!
2) While trying to play a vid from Youtube, the sound is working flawlessly but the video doesn't seem to be advancing. I can move forward manually but all I get are still pictures from the video. This is using the browser that came with GSB; I haven't yet tried to get any other apps.
3) My wife's phone seriously needs this too, but she's leery of wiping her phone of apps. What's the best way to backup apps from a non-rooted Eris?
Thanks in advance for any answers you guys can provide!
Download titanium backup for the apps I'm new at this too I'm unsure about your problems with Facebook and YouTube did you wipe the dalvik cache?
Sent from my Ginger Tazz using Tapatalk
I did wipe the cache, although like I said, I haven't put any apps on here yet, so no harm in just wiping it all again and reflashing the rom to make sure it works. Thanks for the titanium backup tip!
No problem gsb is a great rom these Eris devs do awesome work I use gsb 2.0 no problems I'm trying Ginger tazz now I think battery life may be a little better but both are excellent. You should totally hook your wife's phone up too

I think the Youtube thing is a known issue, and I'm guessing that it's just because Cyanogen Mod 7 isn't completely done yet, so maybe it'll be worked out over time.

Just to let you know, you can wipe the Dalvik cache any time you want to, even after loading apps. It'll just longer to rebuild it when you reboot, but it can help solve issues sometimes.
Welcome to rooting!
That's great to hear! Well, it's not great that youtube doesn't work 100%, but at least it's not some weird problem particular to me. Lol.
I have to say, I really really have grown to like this ROM very fast. My wife is clamoring for it even knowing she's gonna lose all her apps. Any tips on how I set my contacts to import Facebook profile pics now? I did it before, but have no clue where that was or where it may have moved to now.

best option i found for backing up my wife's apps before flashing from stock was to use "universal androot" to root (it is a software root so there is no rebooting or flashing or really any risk of loosing aps). then you can install titanium backup. it will even backup protected files since you have root. when titanium backup loads, hit menu->batch and pick the backup all new apps and newer versions. after flashing, load titanium backup, menu-> batch and pick restore all missing apps (i restored them with data, but many people have had to install the app only and then put back in the other info). FYI i rooted several (5) phones this way. if you install rom manager from the market and install a recovery (clockwork or amon's) from the rom manager, you can turn phone off, then hold vol down and power on to boot to recovery. from there you can wipe and flash. it is the easiest way to root and flash a new rom imho.
sorry figured i should answer your post i quoted. lol. if under menu-> accounts and sync->add account->facebook. input your info and select sync all or sync current contacts. it should pull in the information. if you have different names for people in your contacts and your facebook (ex "wife" in your contacts and "jane" on facebook) you can "sync all contacts" and manually link them. contacts->long press on contact->edit contact->menu->join. this should link you contacts with their facebook info. the facebook pics will sync it just takes a good bit of time sometimes.

[Theme] BNB for Eclipse 0.5

To begin... make a backup 1st.... not responsible for damages while left in the parking garage.. enjoy the game!
This theme was made with permission of "thebowers". It's his creation. I brought it into GB land for the X2. I don't know if I did everything he did but I can tell you that I have made image edits galore for resizing purposes and to get all the new GB images not yet themed. I have also edited the crap out of a lot of xml's so things should work 100% smoothly out of the box. I have also incorporated some inverted apps which, I had nothing to do with. Credit there goes to thebowers, ecsnead and B-Boy. I also made a few apps myself because once I got going on 0.2.2, I got carried away. Three of those apps incorporate to make the X2's first (that I know of anyway) Fully Functional and fully inverted Dialer. 0.4 had issues so, I started over at 0 and made the entire thing myself this time to make sure it all worked.
Also, I changed the boot animation. It matches the theme oh so well. Credit there goes to Versatile1 because he made it (on droidforums.net).
Before we begin, I will list all the apps I have included. For ease of use, I highly recommend getting rid of any app on the list from your phones data folder first. For example, if you downloaded Facebook from the market, remove it from your data folder. Not saying you HAVE TO, just putting it out there if you run into issues, you know how to fix them.
Also for the market... this one you do HAVE to do... First, verify that you DO NOT have a vending app in \data\app!!!!! If you do this will not install!!! You will need to uninstall updates before flashing... Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>"ALL" tab>Market>Uninstall Updates
Will it break your phone if you don't do that? No, it just won't install a market... at all!
Lastly, I have taken the time to guide every .9.png file in the framework and in every app I touched. What this means to you.... If you want to make other changes, everything will decompile and recompile without error. Of course you need to add the dependencies if your editing systemui or settings but thats a blur thing. Not something I did.
Now.. onto the part anyone actually cares about..
The theme is located at the bottom of the deepest cave, surrounded by guardian flying pigs who crave bacon and eggs.
Ive also included a BNB style Icon Pack because, if you are crafty enough to figure out how to install them, I'm crafy enough to share them It's not a huge list, it just covers the basic ones most people stick on the main homescreen.
You can get that here.. but you have to go through the cave first.
If you see any issues please let me know.
Heres the cool list that got into the party....
Framework
SystemUI
Calculator (everyones favorite)
Contacts (Inverted)
Dialer (Inverted)
Phone (Inverted)
Facebook (Inverted)
Gallery 3D
Gmail (Inverted)
Google Quick Search (Inverted)
Keyboard (Black) .. whichever one is in 0.5.. hard to keep up...lol
Gtalk (Inverted)
Market (Inverted)
Google Voice (Inverted)
Music (Black) ##This is NOT the music app that came with Eclipse and it will erase that one##
Notes:
Music app worked on my phone without skips or pops when multitasking.. hope yours does the same.
Battery icons are stock Eclipse.. 200 images to make from scratch takes time.
Settings (Manage Applications is white BG with Black text).. will fix that when I figure it out.
This theme is basically a complete inversion of stock (with different images too). It is dark. On the D1, it was a bit hard to see but with this glare resistant screen or the display quality or something, its quite easy. Plus is doesnt burn your eyeballs when using the phone in the dark.
The screens are from 0.4.... the unselected tabs in the screens now have black text
SCREENSHOTS
Lastly... if you like what I do.. hit the thanks button please. If you have issues, questions, trouble installing, suggestions for a new app to invert.. POST UP!!
I like it cannibal pigs lmao ;-)

My phone is stuck on installing update with this zip. I will have to do a battery pull in order to recover. I tried again and same thing this isn't installing properly or even coming close.
I will need some confirmation from someone else to see if they can or cannot instal it. In the meantime, I will reinstall Eclipse 0.5, download the file from the internet like everyone else has to, and, try installing it on my phone. Give me a few for the results.
Yeah I don't know man. Worked fine for me.
Tell me exactly how you are going about installing it. I will troubleshoot it with you.
I have .5 eclipse installed i reboot into recovery and flash zip from sd card it hangs on installing. Everytime I have tried it gives me the same thing. I haven't had any problems with any other themes either.
I installed fine had to dl twice the first was a "bad" zip but the second dl was fine

Ok I can't purchase anything from market replaced the black one with a regular version from xda and still no go not sure if its theme or rom
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
My understanding on that issue is the stock one is jacked up in that way as well. I have heard (but not tried) that there is a .dex file you can install and all will be well. It has something to do with the signature of the app and it not agreeing with Google purchasing market thing whatever it it is.
wdenker.. maybe try downloading the file again like xheavy did. You could have just gotten a bad d/l. I have this on XDA and DF and no ones having the issue. Also, did you try using this theme on 0.4 or 2.2?
Currently updating this theme some more. Nothing has been posted by me yet but.. I have settings now fully inverted no matter what you click on.. i.e. "Manage Applications". I am about 50% done theming Go Launcher, I have the power widget on status away from green and, lastly, (for now anyway), I will be making new battery images.
Also, I plan on pulling all of my apps and redoing their icons to match. If you have request for app shortcut icons, please let me know.
Thanks for the info bro but after searching I haven't been able to find anything. Would you be able to point me in the direction of that .dex file or thread that contains it? Lol I hate the search function on the xda app lol I miss my poor dr pepper soaked laptop lmfao
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
I asked about it... heres the info I got from a buddy,,, (the user names mentioned, except for the obvious are on DF)
there's no real fix... the certs files are an issue I think.. even the stock version is giving that error on some roms.. and my market works on most but some roms have the error.. bgill and BIGxie are both trying to figure it out also.. there's a user on XDA rujelus (I think) that has an inverted market also and his zip file worked on one of my roms that hadn't previously but then when I tried his again during testing, it wouldn't work anymore...
Ive themed every market since probably October of 2010. Best I can do is go backwards till one works, if any.. if you want.
Damn didn't even know there was this kind of problem lol its all good man it'll just force me to save money lmao

Don't feel bad. I didn't either til I started working on an orange theme and went to the market to buy a theme to see what orange would look like. FC and WTF! Checked around, apparently its hit or miss and no one can figure it out. Works on some ROMs, doesnt on others.

[Q] First ROM?

So I'm itching to load the first ROM to my Rezound, I was kind of waiting on Cyanogen but it seems like it's still pretty far away from everyday use. I've used CM in the past and loved it. I'm not a huge fan of Sense ROMs but I'm getting use to it. I DON'T like how on Sense the background stays still when you scroll left and right to different apps & how it does that spinny thing if you flick it to fast. (I get dizzy and fall down a lot..LOL) Are there any ROMs out there that have the scrolling background and NO spinny thing? I really hate re-doing my phone every time you load a ROM. Any advice on a good way to make the transition easier would be appreciated. What is your app reload stratagem like? I usually just re-download all my apps. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure you can turn off the fast flicky thingy...Not sure off the top of my head where that setting is, but I think I've seen it somewhere.
That being said, I'm using Xtreme Outcast's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507670
It has sense removed and the UI is very sharp and nice on the eyes.
Seems like a new rom comes out every day, so you need to just pick one and try it out. Once you get the hang of it, it takes only minutes to flash a new one, so just try out a few of them and see what you like (always backup before trying a new one).
As far as your apps are concerned, you can either manually re-download them from the market (not bad if you don't have a ton of apps) or use a backup app (like titanium, or one of the 100 others out there).

Thanks trud9340, I didn't see Xtreme Outcast in the ReZound ROM list. Cool so it's De-Sensed! I'm gonna try it, I'm getting things backed up with Titanium now. I've been using Titanium for a while now but have never used it to restore apps after a ROM install, just mainly used it for backing up apps and restoring app if an app update was flaky! Here goes!
It sounds like your issue is with the launcher. Have you tried out any others, like ADW, LauncherPro, or GO? They give you the options to do what you are wanting without having to change your current ROM.

Don't restore data from one ROM to another though, from what I've read that can introduce problems.
I use AppMonster Pro for my app back ups. It's really great and it's so easy on the eyes when you want to restore. Then it gives you the option of installing from sd or from Market. Also, as soon as you download a new app it backs it up. I love that.
+1 for xtreme outkast ICS ROM. Been using it since it came out and it's definitely the closest I've gotten to ICS on the Nexus. Looks sexy and runs really smooth. If you're looking into one without sense I'd definitely go with it.

Any other INC4G people checking out the Kit Kat goods?

Hangouts with sms is great along with the other updated apps, but damn I love the Google Experience launcher. Way less options than nova or apex, but the always-on hotword detection on homescreens is great. Just wondering if anyone else here is trying them out?

i think i installed 90% of them, so far so good. i cant wait for our phone to have it.
Apparently CM will continue to focus on 4.3 builds, so I don't expect a CM11 anytime soon. Knowing our luck with this device, we'll probably have issues with kit kat builds anyway. Still, the launcher and hangouts are pretty badass. It's just a shame there's no official support for icon packs with stock launchers. I have to use an xposed module to use my icon pack of choice on this new launcher and I sometimes feel like it slightly slows the device down.

I had most of the 4.4 .APKs (including the launcher and Google Now) installed on my cm10.2 build for the past day or so, but today I experienced the crash/bootloop scenario that's been plaguing the nightly builds lately; after a forced reboot, all the 4.4 apps were gone, and since I had frozen Trebuchet in TiBU, I was without a launcher and had to restore a NAND backup. Was I supposed to lock all the 4.4 apps into the system folder or something?

I don't know why they would disappear but you could have enabled trebuchet without restoring. You could have accessed the settings through quick settings, went to the apps section, found trebuchet and hit enable. Also, there's no reason to freeze it. Once you switch to a different launcher and reboot, none of your other installed launchers will run. Just for future reference.

Settings was even crashing upon opening; it was incredibly odd. As for the freezing, I and many others who installed the 4.4 launcher were experiencing the default launcher setting not sticking even after setting it to the 4.4 launcher; freezing Trebuchet (the only other one I had installed) fixed this. But that obviously didn't work out so well for me...

I browse /r/Android on reddit often, and people were going nuts posting links to all the apks. I'm sure they're all over the internet by now.
But yes, that's the launcher I'm running. It's so limited in features compared to others, but it really does everything I need. Some people don't seem to like the google now to the left of the main homescreen, but I'm digging it.
I'm really hoping for kit kat to make it's way to our device though. I saw there's a CM11 branch, but who knows what kind of code needs updating and/or compatibility issues.
Do you need to be rooted to do this I keep getting a parsing error

Checking it out myself, thanks to your thread, however after installing the apks I somehow seem to have broken the "okay Google" feature. Google search updated itself and all after installation but even if I choose search manually now it still won't respond to the command.
Your right tho, the launcher is simple but works well. The only thing I don't care for is the constant Google search box on the home screen especially when all you have to do is say the command and it goes straight there.

CM11 Alpha for the INC4G
You've got to check out Cyanogenmod 11 for our device. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552150 I had to flash the updated Recovery but I have had no issues so far. There's a fair bit in 4.4 that you don't get from the base Kit Kat apps that you can install for 4.1 and up.
CM 11 nightly
I've been using the nightly from 12-26 and it is 4.4.2 I have had no issues at all, and it seems to be running smooth. Battery is draining pretty well, but it does in any rom due to the lack of signal from my house. I'm at the office now, running wifi and it seems to be draining less.

[Q] Razr MaxxX T912 so slow, too many apps?

I tried searching but cannot find exactly what I am looking for.
I have a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx XT912, Android 4.1.2, rooted. When I got this phone, what impressed me is the speed at which it ran. (1200Mhz 32bits Dual-Core). Before that, I had a Droid X, ran great for a year or two, then so slow it could take a minute or more before I could get the dialer up to make a phone call. Same thing with Google Maps, I would reach the destination before I could finally pull it up on Maps. I upgraded with Verizon to this new Razr Maxx. Very fast, very good. I installed Jellybean 4.1.2 and rooted it, use Titanium Backup, cannot use CWM ROM Manager anymore so I tried Safestrap.
Problem is that now this phone is over two years old and is doing the same thing. I have close to 400 apps from what Titanium tells me if I must restore. But these apps are set to update automatically and they seem to do so at a rapid pace. Every other day some group of apps has updated. Now the thing is too slow to be used as a phone most of the time or GPS navigation. I installed Micro CPU Monitor to see how busy this CPU is (Makes one pixel high lines across top of screen, one for each core) and most of the time, the CPU is pinned. What surprised me is how many apps just "run all the time" and not just when you want or need them. Many of the silly games do not exit, they run constantly although you do not see it. Could that be the problem? Too many apps running, too many updates requiring more and more power and memory?
How can I trim down the list of apps I want/need or at least make them NOT run unless I use them? I need to get some speed back on this phone, it is barely usable much of the time and do not have the money to buy new phones twice a year like Verizon wants me to. As it is, $150/Mo is too darned much money for a cell phone anyway. I have unlimited everything but not hotspot, I use Wireless Tether for Root Users for that.
How can I get this phone back up to speed again? Any help would be appreciated.
Try greenify, this let's u hibernate apps u don't need /want when screen is off, have nearly 200+ apps installed and most of them hibernated. That means, this apps will only run when start them, I think it's worth a try

Oh dude, I just installed greenify and watchdog because they are supposed to help with this. I also go SetCPU. it lets you make rules for conditions on how much CPU speed you can allocate. For example, I want maps and navigation and phone to have full power, in my case that is 1- 1.2Ghz. When screen is blacked, I cut it down to 300-800Mhz to save battery. What is cool is the chart that shows how much time the CPU spends in each frequency range. 3/4 of the time it sits at 800Mhz.
Yes of course I am rooted. Best way to get free hotspot out of Verizon instead of paying $20/mo whether you use it or not. :good:
Greenify looks cool as hell and it gives you an app list but how do you use it? Let's take Twitter for example. I rarely if ever use it. Shows up as Scheduled Running (Since last startup). For Twitter to be useful, it has to run all the time to accept incoming tweets. Because I don't give a dam about Twitter but want to keep it around, how does Greenify make that baby hibernate? What do I have to do to make this happen? You can tap to hightlight and there is a check and some sort of camera looking icon on top of screen, what do you do to shut this puppy down? I have games that never quit, want them OFF when not in use, Facebook runs constantly but would be nice to make sure it is not a memory or CPU hog. Can u give some hints, tips, or instructions on how to use Greenify? (Maybe I can Google this.)
Oh I get it dude! I clicked Twitter and the camera looking icon and it disappeared from the Shows up as Scheduled Running (Since last startup) list. I had to click "More Apps" to find it way down in the list. This time I clicked it and hit the check and it is now hibernating until I want to use it. This is AWESOME dude, you got my thanks for this tip. I am going to dig deeper into this now. Thanks!
Edit: There is such an awesome list in Greenify that this is awesome. I have been using task killers but the dammed task comes right back after killed so this is better, hibernate that stuff. So cool! Okay, so I want to test this out and make sure it really does not destroy anything important. I hibernated RoboForm (Awesome password manager that syncs with my other PCs) and it is NOT running anymore. Yet, when tapped, it goes right to work immediately. I can sync it anytime I feel the need but since it is not running yet still works just fine, this really is one awesome app! Hmmm, I just checked APPS and Roboform is running, but I did just use it. I checked Greenify again to see if it is still hibernated, and it is now listed as "Pending". I clicked the little "i" icon for more information and it tells me that Roboform is running for a short time but will hibernate again when the screen times out. Le's try it and see. Letting screen black out, giving it time to pass the 5 second grace period, and will check hibernation status of Roboform again.
Hmmm, I waited about 3-5 minuted and Roboform was still pending hibernation. There really are not settings I can find in Greenify to shorten the pending hibernation time. Maybe a pay version but I cannot find it. I can immediately put it back to sleep in Greenify, but there should be a setting for how long it should be pending. Once I am done with it, I rarely use it again immediately so would like this puppy to sleep right away. Facebok is another one that runs all over the phone. I want messenger active so I leave it alone. But to have the main app running constantly is ridiculous. This Greenify is a great start and many Editor's Choice awards, but without a settings menu, I can't give it 5 stars. Still great stuff, thanks again.
Edit 2: How to enable all the cool stuff in Greenify Donation Version menu
There is a "Donate Version" costs $2.99 with more features. This thing is worth 3 bucks, I just bought it and installed it. Oh, yeah, you get Experimental Features in the Donate Version but must install Xposed Framework to use it. It is free but must have rooted phone to install it. I just installed it, then have to open the installer and "install it to the phone". Reboot required. Then open the framwork installer again, click Modules, and put check mark into Greenify checkbox. Reboot again.
Yeah, you get some cool stuff in the pay version. I like it and think it is worth the 3 bucks. I like this, a boosted performance version, ability to wake up push message programs like Skype, Facebook Messenger, or anything like that. What the hell, buy the guy a cup of Joe for 3 bucks, it is worth it if you got the money. But the free version really is good enough, the extra stuff here is not essential but nice to have. Here is what you get:

Last thing, here is a cool tip for Titanium Backup users.
If you have more than one Android device, buy a pay app, and "want to try it out on another device without having to buy it again", make a backup in Titanium Backup, export the backup to something easy to access like Dropbox, open your other device, open dropbox, and restore the app and data. You get the pay version on the other device and can then "try before you buy". This works most of the time. It may not work on everything, but so far I have not found one yet where it does not work.

You know, that is my problem too. I have a lot of apps and really do use them and like them, just not all the time. I am an electronic tech and some of the really good electronic apps are super, but I do not use them often. tydiamond11 is right, using Greenify it will put the crap you do not use all the time or consider essential to run constantly into hibernation. That means they do not run and use CPU, or use memory. But they still work when you click them. This would solve a huge part of this problem, I did install Greenify and am using it now. Just figured out how to use it when tydiamond11 replied how much it helped him. I just tested it, it shows a list of all your stuff, if it is running in background, foreground, and other important information on it. I do not use Twitter hardly at all but it must run all the time to receive incoming Tweets. Since I don't give a rat's behind about Twitter for the most part but want it around, I sent that baby packing to the hibernation room. Now that I got it figured out, I will use this a lot and I be my performance should improve. I will post results here because this is my thread and I want not only answers, but help for others who have this problem so they can find it.
Try Greenify and hibernate a bunch of running crap that you do not need running all the time and see if it helps. Find it at the play store or on Google. I put a link for you in the app name. Come back and share your experience. Let's help each other and do not forget to click the "Thanks" button if something really does help you.
I didnt use greenify, juice defender, xposed etc, and my phone is fast, I just installed trickstermod, debloat the phone, convert some system apps to user apps with titanium backup and I have about 350-400+ mb of free ram on stock rom. Now I have slim bean 4.3.1, and have 250+ of free ram without greenify etc.....you should try debloat your rom and convert some apps to user apps...
Hello me!!! Its me again!!!
what is the advantage of converting system apps to user apps?

Because you cannot shut off or Greenify system apps. They are considered essential so they are not allowed to be shut off of hibernated. BUT. a lot of carriers will put their own bloatware into system apps so you cannot shut them off like Verizon VZ Navigator, which is the same thing as Google Maps (free) and not as good. Titanium Backup will allow you to freeze or remove bloatware like this and making it a system app, allows task manager and Greenify to kill them or hibernate them. Even Faebook was a system app and I could not Greenify it and make it go to sleep. But the $3 Greenify allows you to insist and hibernate it, plus it will wake it up if you get a messages sent to the app. Facebook can be pretty annoying, besides running all the time, it pops and makes alerts for the most stupid stuff ever. "Chris Santoro is playing Farmville and invited ou to play." Or someone I know vaguely from school will be constantly posting pictures of their kids whom I have never met or will meet. I do not need these notifications constantly. I will check Facebook when I am ready and see what there is to see. With Grenify donate version, I now have Facebook hibernating and not bugging me with this nonsense anymore, and it works just as well as it did before.
I am seeing a Big improvement with Greenify already. I hibernated Google Maps until I need them and my load went way down on the phone. Maps and Chrome browser are already system apps so you cannot Greenify them without the donate version of Greenify. It was well worth the 3 bucks for the pay version.
i bought Greenify month ago, so there wouldn't be any further advantage =) i like the app much, it makes stock rom more smooth, but not as smooth as 4.3

What do you mean, 4.3? You mean Android 4.3? I got 4.1.2 and of course have OTA shut off because I don't want to lose root. It seems harder and harder to root these things as they go up in version number. As if Motorola closes all the exploits. I am dying to update this to a newer version of Android. What kind of phone you have? Motorola Droid Razr Maxx XT912?
You got a good, rooted 4.3 ROM for it? Where? Does it come pre-rooted? Will it still be a Verizon phone after that? I love the Cyanogen Mods and use them on my Samsung Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113 but I can use clockwork mod ROM MAnager on the tablet. CWM used to work on my Droid X but it bricks this thing pretty bad if I try it. Encryption Errror when booting, endless loop, have to re-ROM the phone all over again and it sucks! I installed Safestrap but never had the balls to see if it would actually recover the phone. I wanted to format my internal SD card and you can't with this thing. Instead of formatting, it does an "rm -rf" which is Linux talk for erase everything. I wanted it formatted to remove old partitions and Safestrap won;t even do that.
Tell me more dude, tell me more because I am drooling right about now!
Look in the dev section there are a lot of custom Roms, but before read about Bootmenu manager and safestrap, how to use them and all, then u r good to go:thumbup:

I know how to get into AP Fastboot and installed and backed up some with Safe Strap, but never did a restore with safestrap before. I am rooted, want to keep root, but not confident that safestrap actually works. Wonder what version I have?3.1.1 Says installed, but safe system not active. I need a good safestrap tutorial first, I think.
I love CM Mods, use on tablet. But also love Linux installs. My old quad core AMD never got the drivers right for this phone. I had to use a slow laptop for that. Now I got a Sandy Bridge 8 core PC, this would probably work, but still more comfortable with Linux.
Android 4.3 is a nightly, still has bugs. I want a stable version because I really need this phone and cannot do "without the camera" or HP jack and audio not working right, etc. Maybe 4.1 would be the way to go. Who's ROM is this anyway? I keep a copy of it in case I wax the phone, I have to install ROM and gapps, then root the thing with razblade. All in one nice package.
Yeah, this is what I use, all in one nice package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192467
So if 4.3 is buggy, I should do 4.2 instead, no? What do you think? What is broken in 4.3 and do you have any links? Thanks.
Getting the hang of this
Alright, all of you wonderful people helped me a real lot today. Sometimes I come here for answers and if they are not here, they are no where. But, sometimes nobody will bother to answer. I got good help this time and learned some new stuff.
Greenify really is champ. It has cut the wait time for app opening dramatically, where task killers did not as the app would reopen the moment it was closed.
A newer version of Jelly Bean would be most helpful. I am currently running 4.1.2 that installs from the AP Fastboot menu via USB and Linux PC shell script. It worked well but then I had to root it and have not updated since because I do not want to lose root.
I learned more on how to use Safe Strap. I have it installed already and now know how to properly make and restore backups.
I learned how much easier it would be to install a new ROM and gapps with Safe Strap, pretty much as easy as CWM, which we all know, will brick our razr phones. (Well, you cannot totally brick them since the AP Fastboot menu is still available when the dreaded encryption error comes due to using CWN, so a new ROM can be installed via drivers in Linux or Windows)
I now have the Cyenogen Mod 10.2 for Jelly Bean 4.3 for Droid Razr phones and he associated gapps for 4.3, plus the update.zip file on my ext-sdcard to perform this upgrade. Best part is if this works as it shold, I could use Safe Strap to return my phone to usable and nice until I get the time to thoroghly test 4.3 and customize it with all my apps and decorations.
I relearned how to create and use update.zip with Titanium Backup so once the new ROM and gapps are installed, I can then flash update zip to my phone to allow Titanium Backup Pro to reinstall all of my apps, even the ones that did not come from google such as ad free.
This is a good thread so I will post back here with results when I have them, others with experience or questions of this natre please chime in.

Where do you find these ROMS dude? I was looking at CM10.2 and that sounded pretty good. I still want a fully functional phone where everything works. Are these stripped down or something? If Safe Strap does what it should, this would be easy like using CWM. Then, I could Safe Strap back to old ROM to use phone until I get done setting up new ROM or ditching it.
thats right, we have dual-boot on our RAZRs also with BMM!
you could have a "safe" Slot 1 and a testing Slot 2.
the ROMS you are looking for are in the DEV section too

Yeah, dual boot,l this is so cool! That is how CWM used to work and you could format your internal SD card space w/clockwork. Safe Strap does not work to format the internal card. When I first put in JB, I had like NO internal card space, just plain gone! One dude on here figured it out, use CWM to go format the internal SD card, wait for Google to put back your apps, and in like 45 minuted, the tablet was good again and all my stuff came back, PLUS all the space I lost when I installed JB. It just left all the old stuff on the card and made the partitions invisible so a 16Gb card only had like 4Gb of space. Safe Strap does not format internal SD cards, it uses some fake "rm -rf" command that does not format and cannot be unchecked from the options.
Installed cyanogen 10.2, 4.3, and now have no data connection.

Hey I just installed Cyanogen 10.2 4.3 and this is pretty slick.Everything seems to work and it is NICE. BUT, major problem here. I do have a Verizon phone, can make and receive calls, have the signal bars, but there is no 4G, 3G or whatever data icon on the phone. Anything I try for data will use wireless only. The data connection to the phone is lost. Is there anyway to restore it or am I just using a bad ROM for Verizon?
Dam, this all went so well too, but I have unlimited data and if I cannot use data, what good is it? I can reboot with Safe Strap and go back to stock and everything is fine. But boot back to 4.3 Cyanogen, and data for the phone is lost.
Somebody please help me!
3G/4G is a known bug on 4.3.1 Roms on CDMA, I think u have to use 10.1.3 build from CM for working data
