Need Help Flashing Clockwork Recovery

Can anyone give me a detailed step-by-step guide on how to flash clockwork recovery to my cousin's Verizon Fascinate? He's tried using ROM Manager, each time it says flash is successul but reboots to stock recovery. I've Googled it and it looks like it has to be done with a computer? All of the Odin stuff is a bit confusing, so can anyone point us in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The more detailed the guide, the better.

There is a pretty good step by step to get you started in the evil fascination thread in the development section

You can't flash CWM with ROM Manager. You need to flash the recovery kernel with Odin, as well as flash a patched/custom kernel to the standard kernel partition.
1. Download Odin 1.3, CWM recovery kernel for Odin, and Custom/Patched kernel
2. If the custom/patched kernel is in zip format, transfer it to your sd card
3. Pull the battery from the phone, hold in on the Volume Down button, and plug in the USB cable that should also be plugged into your computer. Make sure to continue holding the volume down button while plugging in the USB cable.
4. Phone should now be in download mode. Open Odin and verify that your phone is recognized.
5. Click the PDA button and browse to the CWM kernel you downloaded (.tar or .tar.md5 file) then click start.
6. If the patched/custom kernel you downloaded was in .tar or .tar.md5 format, repeat steps 3-5, this time select the patched/custom kernel and flash it.
7. Put the battery back in. If you downloaded a cwm zip file for the kernel, boot directly into recovery by holding both volume keys while pressing the power button. If it doesn't boot into recovery, you'll have to re-flash CWM and retry. Flash the kernel zip in recovery. If you already flashed a patched/custom kernel via Odin, you don't have to boot to recovery and can just start the phone up normally.
See here for a general overview of the Odin flashing process. It says modem, but just replace the modem file with the kernel/recovery file as the procedure is the same regardless.
Thanks for the help.

Method 1 (easiest in my opinion)
1. Open the .tar.md5 file with the firmware you are using.
2. Extract zImage and put it on the sdcard.
3. Use CWMManager from within the rom and use the 'Flash a kernel' option, the device will autoreboot
Method 2
1. Download a kernel in a CWM compatible .zip
2. Reboot to clockworkmod recovery
3. Use 'install zip from sdcard' option and select the appropriate .zip file
4. Reboot device
Method 3
1. Get the stock kernel for your firmware in .tar format from this thread
2. Reboot into download mode
3. Open Odin and click on PDA and select the .tar file you just downloaded and click start. Device will auto reboot
Method 4 (Paid app)
1. Get stock kernel in .tar file.
2. Open Mobile Odin and select Kernel and the .tar file
3. Reboot device
In case you don't know how to get on Download mode: Hold together :
Power Button, Home Button and Volume Down button for some seconds. This will boot you into Download Mode.Same combination but Volume Up instead will boot you to your Recovery Mode.

Back up your current Kernel with with hellcat's K-Tool,
this will dump your kenrel on the SD card root as a "zimage" this can be restored with the same tool if something goes wrong with installed custom kernel.
Better immedietly after dumping the kernel, just put it in a folder on the SDcard with name Stock kernel or somthing, to avoid miximg up with other "zimage"s and accedental flshing.....
thanks everyone for helping...

This is excellent. Thank you for your contribution on this forum for this device. I have the Galaxy Mega 6.3 i9200 version. Would you be able to create a cwm recovery for it? I saw in one of your other threads that the recovery.img and recovery.fstab files are needed. I don't know the exact mechanism by which to get those files (rom dump?) but I will try to do it if you tell me how (my device is already rooted). Please let me know if you are willing and able to do it. And, if you will do it, let me know the best way to get the necessary files to you. Either way, thanks, again, for what you've already contributed.
Good work, thank Sarath280. The weekend I try to install. I bought i9205 today.

[Q] How to flash new zip in CWM?

I want to go back to stock rom. So I downloaded a zip file of the firmware.
Please give me the detailed steps to flash the rom without bricking it. My externel sdcard is unable to mount in CWM.
Any kind of help will be much appreciated.
thank you.
First download and install odin from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
1. If it is in zip extract it using 7zip,winrar.....
2. Open Odin3 (Run As Administrator).
3.Shut down your phone than put your device in download mode. To do so, press Vol-Down And Home And Power Button all together and when it vibrates release Power (It might not work in first time,so try it three four time before posting again)
Button. You should have a triangle with an android janitor while it's saying downloading.
4. You should see a blue rectangle with COM:xx and saying Added. It means that your device is ready to be flashed!
5. Go into the PDA section and select your .tar file.
6. Dont check any option (F.reset time and Auto reboot are checked by default if not than check them).
7. Now click Start.
8. When it's finished, it should say that it's done with a green box and your device should reboot by itself
Good luck:good:
Thanks for your concern but i don't have the .tar file so i'm unable to flash it via ODIN. Can you give me the instruction to flash .zip file through CWM recovery. And what should i do if my external sd is unable to mount?

To flash through CWM you dont need external SD card. You can just copy the file in to Internal SD and flash it.
And for installing stock firmware, you cant just simply do it via CWM, you have to go for Odin only.
For this you need to download your original firmware from sammobile or in xda forums you can find it. Take a research, the above post will help.

Root/twrp/cwm/unbrick sm-g7102

If you are on android 4.3, trying to install cwm or twrp.....Don't waste your time
b'coz I wasted 2 days on it.
Just download stock rom 4.4.2 INS form this link
link. Extract it to some location and flash it using Odin (Link given below steps) by selecting AP/PDI button.
If didn't boot try check or select Phone Bootloader update. Rest all keep it same ie. auto reboot and f-reset time selected.
Download Odin 3.0.9 from this link
Flash CF-Root file on Odin by selecting AP/PDA tab. Download CF-Root from this link
Download Flashify app from play store or some download from this link
Now download twrp from this link, extract and save this in sd card.
select recovery in app and click on chose file, navigate to above downloaded file and select twrpxxxxxxx.img file.
Click on reboot.
Start enjoying custom Rom if you like, but don't forget to press thanks
For flashing ROM and CF-Root in Odin you need to put your device in download mode.
Remove battery, Reinsert battery, hold vol(-)+home+power buttons at a time then conform by pressing vol (+) button. Start flashing after ID:COM box turns to blue.
Delete this and put it in grand 2 general
