If you are on android 4.3, trying to install cwm or twrp.....Don't waste your time
b'coz I wasted 2 days on it.
Just download stock rom 4.4.2 INS form this link
link. Extract it to some location and flash it using Odin (Link given below steps) by selecting AP/PDI button.
If didn't boot try check or select Phone Bootloader update. Rest all keep it same ie. auto reboot and f-reset time selected.
Download Odin 3.0.9 from this link
Flash CF-Root file on Odin by selecting AP/PDA tab. Download CF-Root from this link
Download Flashify app from play store or some download from this link
Now download twrp from this link, extract and save this in sd card.
select recovery in app and click on chose file, navigate to above downloaded file and select twrpxxxxxxx.img file.
Click on reboot.
Start enjoying custom Rom if you like, but don't forget to press thanks
For flashing ROM and CF-Root in Odin you need to put your device in download mode.
Remove battery, Reinsert battery, hold vol(-)+home+power buttons at a time then conform by pressing vol (+) button. Start flashing after ID:COM box turns to blue.
Delete this and put it in grand 2 general

Method 1 (easiest in my opinion)
1. Open the .tar.md5 file with the firmware you are using.
2. Extract zImage and put it on the sdcard.
3. Use CWMManager from within the rom and use the 'Flash a kernel' option, the device will autoreboot
Method 2
1. Download a kernel in a CWM compatible .zip
2. Reboot to clockworkmod recovery
3. Use 'install zip from sdcard' option and select the appropriate .zip file
4. Reboot device
Method 3
1. Get the stock kernel for your firmware in .tar format from this thread
2. Reboot into download mode
3. Open Odin and click on PDA and select the .tar file you just downloaded and click start. Device will auto reboot
Method 4 (Paid app)
1. Get stock kernel in .tar file.
2. Open Mobile Odin and select Kernel and the .tar file
3. Reboot device
In case you don't know how to get on Download mode: Hold together :
Power Button, Home Button and Volume Down button for some seconds. This will boot you into Download Mode.Same combination but Volume Up instead will boot you to your Recovery Mode.

Back up your current Kernel with with hellcat's K-Tool,
this will dump your kenrel on the SD card root as a "zimage" this can be restored with the same tool if something goes wrong with installed custom kernel.
Better immedietly after dumping the kernel, just put it in a folder on the SDcard with name Stock kernel or somthing, to avoid miximg up with other "zimage"s and accedental flshing.....
thanks everyone for helping...
Hi All
First of I would like to thank you all for having me on your forum.
Second, I live in South Africa, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my service provider is Vodacom.
I am trying to root my device.
I did manage to get into the "Downloading" Mode and using Odin I managed to install the "clockworkmod"
The next step is to boot into recovery mode (Press and hold Volume Up, Home Button & Power Button) but my S3 does not want to go into recovery mode. When I follow the steps it freezes on The Galaxy Logo.
I really want to root my device to use ALL of the awesome stuff you guys develop.
Thank You in advance.
Only hold vol up + home + power until you see the white galaxy s3 writing then release

Hi
Thank You for the Reply.
I did only hold it down until the logo pops up and then I released.
It still freezes. I have tried holding it in for longer.
I have checked the net and came across different methods and that did not work.
Could it be that Vodacom changed how it goes into recovery mode?
I would say flash an open fw through Odin. *2767*3855# to clean phone from obsolete data. Make sure to backup what you need. Flash CF through Odin.
Boot to recovery through cwm app.

If you dont have CWM do this > *Installation
1. Download Odin3 and CF-Root-SGS3-vxx.zip
2. Power off your phone
3. Boot into download mod (Press vol down + Home + Power on)
4. Unzip CF-Root-SGS3-vxx.zip. You need to end up with a .tar file, dont extract .tar file.
5. Open Odin
6. Select PDA as CF-Root-SGS3-vxx.tar
7. Connect the phone to your computer
8. Make sure that re-partition is not ticked
9. Click Start Button
10. Wait for phone to reboot.
Link>http://speedy.sh/kcqvD/CF-Root-SGS3-v6.2.tar
If this failes due to missing pit file try this tar >http://www.mediafire.com/?88vjjh50vqetxab
Now you successfully installed CWM + Super User + CWM Manager.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the hole package then!
Darkyrom s3 (latest) + cwm revovery tar + odin 1.85
After CWM install with tar file, drop the rom file on sd boot to CWM install !!
Then get rom files here on XDA and flash

I want to go back to stock rom. So I downloaded a zip file of the firmware.
Please give me the detailed steps to flash the rom without bricking it. My externel sdcard is unable to mount in CWM.
Any kind of help will be much appreciated.
thank you.
First download and install odin from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
1. If it is in zip extract it using 7zip,winrar.....
2. Open Odin3 (Run As Administrator).
3.Shut down your phone than put your device in download mode. To do so, press Vol-Down And Home And Power Button all together and when it vibrates release Power (It might not work in first time,so try it three four time before posting again)
Button. You should have a triangle with an android janitor while it's saying downloading.
4. You should see a blue rectangle with COM:xx and saying Added. It means that your device is ready to be flashed!
5. Go into the PDA section and select your .tar file.
6. Dont check any option (F.reset time and Auto reboot are checked by default if not than check them).
7. Now click Start.
8. When it's finished, it should say that it's done with a green box and your device should reboot by itself
Good luck:good:
Thanks for your concern but i don't have the .tar file so i'm unable to flash it via ODIN. Can you give me the instruction to flash .zip file through CWM recovery. And what should i do if my external sd is unable to mount?

To flash through CWM you dont need external SD card. You can just copy the file in to Internal SD and flash it.
And for installing stock firmware, you cant just simply do it via CWM, you have to go for Odin only.
For this you need to download your original firmware from sammobile or in xda forums you can find it. Take a research, the above post will help.
