Trued the MIUI Android Jellybean ROM and loved the messaging app it came with, especially the pop ups. Is there anyway to get that on the HTC Evo 3D at all?
I am sure there's a market apk, go sms, handcent just to mention a couple
(Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
I'm using GO SMS right now but I'd still like to get the MIUI messaging app still if possible. Running Viper3D 1.0.0 Sense 4.1.

It's proprietary to the infrastructure of MIUI. This is unfortunate because I too would love to use the messaging app

Dang. The only things I liked about the MIUI ROM was the lock screen, the messaging, & it being a Jellybean ROM.

Is it possible for someone to port Aosp contacts? I hate the HTC people thing and having to scroll through all my calls before I get to my contacts.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Because that's not your contacts app, that's your dialer.
Either press Menu and then People from the dialer, or put the People shortcut on your homescreen.
But you know what I'm saying though. In Aosp contacts you have tabs up top for dialer contacts recent and favorites. It's so much easier and convenient.

No, I don't know what you're saying. If that extra tap to open the menu and press contacts bugs you, use the "People" shortcut instead of tapping the home bar on the homescreen dock. It's not "so much easier" or even "more convenient", it's simply just one tap less.
The Sense dialer destroys all other dialers for its smart-dialing abilities. I'm not interesting in going back to AOSP's way of doing it any time soon, I was stuck with it for the longest time with CM7 on the Hero.
At any rate, you're not going to get the AOSP dialer until we have an AOSP ROM. Sense's current dialer is too heavily tied into all the functions of the ROM for it to be changed out with anything else.
i think the actual question is legit and i would like to know how to do it. I have attempted to push contacts.apk to /system/app from an AOSP rom to a couple of ROMs. So far it worked on Virus Airborne, however, it wont even show up in SneselessRom. Any idea why that would be?

Try GO Contacts... You're welcome in advance :-D
I suggest learn how to use the people app or shortcut... Sense dialer is miles ahead in function and features...every one copies sense these days for use on stale plain AOSP...
beweather .... All those clock widgets... Lockscreen...the list goes on

Aosp dialer destroys sense....what r u people talking about when u say its so much better? R u kidding me? Visually its hidious and a pain in the ass to use. The aosp is setup to let u find contacts got to ur logged calls go to favorites and the dialer itself is a 1000% times better to use. Host the time on sense dialer u search for a number and half the screen is taken up by the ugly dialer itself. As for the peoples app...its just as bad if not worse. Ill take aosp any day of the week.

Honestly, it comes down to personal preference. I really cannot stand Sense. I prefer the "stale plain AOSP" to Sense any day. as for the AOSP dialer, I find it more intuitive than the Sense one.
I also don't like the weather, or the clock widgets, or the lockscreen...I honestly do prefer AOSP to Sense. I understand the appeal of Sense, but give me my LauncherPro on AOSP, and I'm good to go. imho, I can't see how anyone could deal with the inherent messiness of Sense.
Edit: Also, Sense dialer refuses to go Landscape for me...So when I'm using my car dock, everything's sideways.
There you go...just use a file browser to install like you would any other apk.
And for god sake if you download it hit the thanks button! If you can click on the link you can click on the thanks button too. Enjoy
Do you have this without the "custom(not for me)" background for the contacts list? I remember it being just black.... Also I get an android.process.acore f/c when I try to open this with Rosie

It's very much built into the rom. And with the amaze 4g's dual core 1.5 processor, adw or launcherpro isn't going to slow down the phone at all.

Once I used rom toolbox to get rid of all the sense feel. Use their app manager feature to uninstall all the sense you dont want
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using xda premium
Use Senceless from ROM Development section. It doesn't have Rosie, htc facebook, htc twitter, widgets and a lot of other stuff is removed. It comes with Zeam launcher, but you can download another one and then uninstall Zeam.
I'm running it now, after restoring a few sense apps from Quiksense by using AppExtractor, and it's running great. It's no AOSP, but it's a super slimmed down version of sense.

So i was wondering if it is possible with a stock sense 4 rom (im on flex's stock with goods rom) i already installed a stock messaging app and froze the htc one with TB...so my main question is can the same be done with something like the Dialer app which is one i particularly want
please and thanks
also if it is possible can i get a link to the apk :fingers-crossed:
I know of someone who tried the phone.apk, but got constant FC. But, if you installed the contacts.apk with it, maybe. I know some other stuff works, like browser and keyboard (LatinIME.apk).
I downloaded CM9 to pull stuff from there (just until it gets a little more stable, then bye bye sense).

Okay I am having a really hard time trying to figure out how to change the dialer from sense to aosp. I heard that joelz made a flash able zip back in the day but I can't find it. I thought it would be as easy as swapping a few apk's in system/app but apparently that's not the case. Can anyone help? Running slimrom btw.

I'm not an expert but I dont think its possible because of sense and the framework resources. Or you'll have to do a lot more than just swapping a few apk's.

While personally not a fan of the AOSP dialer, I'm a huge fan of the AOKP dialer (I also think the same one is used in CM9). It's simple, elegant, and has T9 searching built in.
The Sense one is laggy, bulky, and slow.

That may actually be what I'm referring to. My last phone was running cm9. Oops
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I should have included this in the post so my apologies, but I don't think it's possible. Even if you replaced the APK with the stock or CM9 dialer, I think it would crash. HTC has heavily modified their Android source and framework so the HTC Dialer is deeply embedded in the ROM and can't be replaced.
With that said, you can get an APK from the market that will replace the dialer, but it's not a true dialer. It basically acts like a dialer then sends the dial commands through the phone's stock dialer. They're finnicky at best, usable at worst.
Just my opinion though, I may have some of the details wrong as I'm not a dev.
The only 2 things I wish I had when I was on Cyanogen was the Sense Dialer and Camera app...both are superior to AOSP (at least at that time).
Sense Dialer having the smart search is a godsend.

Newer Cyanogen (7.2 and up) has a modified AOSP dialer that integrates smart search. Very slick.

I was wandering if there is a way to make a hybrid rom or if a dev would be willing to try to make one. I'm just suggesting because I like sense 5 but I do miss the sense 4+ widgets they removed and the carousel home screen transitions. Also being able to move your home screens around to a different spot. Everything else I like is from sense 5. If maybe someone could port those over or make a sense 4+/5 hybrid. Just a suggestion.

given the massive changes to sense, it would be a lot of work to try and integrate sense5 features into a stock rom or vice versa
given the dependency changes as well (fusion, assets, rosie/prism, etc) you would be asking for issues
not to say its impossible...but i dont see the amount of time needed and the probability of it not even panning out really being worth a dev's time....then again, some people seem to have 100 hours a week to work on stuff, so who knows
Unless you wanted to pay a lot for a developer to do this, it's doubtful. You could always download both versions and make your own hybrid. Granted this would be simple things such as icons and such (already available to download on Viper DNA) , unless you know how to code.

thats not a hybrid rom...thats a sense 4+ rom that has sense5 icons/images/fonts etc
a true *hybrid* would mix the frameworks/apks/widgets and so on...not just mimic the look
i remember the days of the hybrid sense 2/3 roms on the OG Inc...good times.
That ROM would probably take up a lot of system space since they call on different system commands..
I like this idea a lot, although i think the amount of work makes it not really worth the time someone would have to spend on it. There are some things I miss about sense 5. For example, why did they remove all the customizability? No skins? I feel like they're kind of pulling an apple on us. Regardless, I love sense 5. I keep switching back and forth though because I do miss 4+ sometimes.
