I have a Sprint HTC evo 3d flashed and workign for boost mobile. I was using it yesterday for skype. Went to work doing my 16 hour shift last night. I came home and my screen was Frozen on skype. I pressed the power button and i got the restart scren but i couldnt click on restart. I couldnt click on the Home button either. I took out the battery and replaced it.
Now its stuck in a boot loop. It starts up, White htc screen for a few seconds, Restarts itself, goes right back to the white HTC screen and redoes that Loop over and over. I held down the VOL D button and poewr button and attempted a factory reset. It does the same thing. HTC boot loop. Took it to my local boost mobile store that unlocked and flashed and rooted my phone for me in the first place and he did a Hard factory reset from his computer and it does the same thing. He told me sorry but there isnt any software in the phone i cant fix this.
I called HTC and they said it sounds like the phone is a empty shell atm. There is no software on the phone so it doesnt know what to load up or how to do a factory reset. He told me to hold down the VOL D and power again and do a factory reset. Same issue HTC boot loop. Told me to click Recover, Same thing boot loop. Then he said click on FASTBOOT/BOOTLOADER and hook it up to the cmoputer and see if it shows up in my device manager. it says ANDRIOD 1.0. Thats it. Cant go in and use it as USB storage. He then advised me i can send the phone in and they can reload the factory software on the phone but ut would cost me 275 dollors. I told him at that price i can buy a Galexy s2 or s3. Then he told me to call my local SPRINT STORE and see if they can load the ORIGINAL software for me.
I then called my local sprint repair store. I spoke with a gentleman that was the district repair person and was the only one that repaired anything in this area. He told me most like yes i have to have the original software loaded on the phone. He could do it but hes going on vacation and cannot do anything until he comes back after the christmas holidays. He also advised me since im friends with a coworker of his to come to this website. There will be the software i need with step by step instruction. I just need to laod the software on the Micro sd and take it from there. Im actually glad i found this site due to the fact is i been wanting to start flashing phones for alot of people i know including myself. I use to do iphones, xboxes, playstations, wii's ect so i have some basic knowlege but its been years.
I registered for this site and i cant find a thread with the software i need with the step by step instructions. Is there anyone can direct me to exactly where i need to be. idk if i have to flash it from the beginning with a custom rom. I perfer a custom rom becuase im going to be using it for boost mobile any how. If so could i get that information i need and step by step instructions I use boost mobile no idea if i need GSM or CDMA. Would be awesome Thank you very much for even taking the time to read this

i dont know how to do any of that. which is why i need step by step instructions. it was rooted. its nothing now. The phone is an empty shell. I dont know what to do or what to install. I just know my phone was flashed, rooted, unlocked ect. it was completely unlocked for evrything and over clocked. if it had some kinda recovery the guy at the store would of did it, it has no recovery. i stated earlier that htc and sprint said it prob has to be reloaded with software becuase it BLANK right now.

i went to the top one that says the SUU. Im confused. part of the instructions say this...
fter you've followed their instructions, you can come back here to get your custom recovery and Superuser setup.
So, you got ur Bootloader unlocked via HTC, now, on your phone, go to menu > settings > applications > development and check the box net to usb debugging.
Now, here are the rest of ur required downloads for the next steps:
su 2.3.6.3
TWRP Recovery
Thanks to Brandas for the above version of TWRP that works with HTC's unlock. He posted it in a thread last week, I just tested it and am posting it here.
Here is where he originally posted it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=223
Take both the su.zip and recovery.img files and put them in your sdk tools folder.
Then, get in your command prompt from ur sdk tools folder.
Click to collapse
..... My problem is i dont know what they mean by SDK tools folder and i cannot turn on my phone to follow the debugging steps. the first step was unlocking boot loader. but in my boot loader it already says unlocked on the top of the screen so i skipped that step. I dont know what to do. i need to get original software on my phone.
From what I have read you need to be S-ON and **RELOCKED** for RUU updates to work.

My evo 3d is stuck in boat loader when switch it on it directly boots in hboot and there i get stuck because i m unable to flash ruu both ways (ZIP and USB)
this problem was initiated when i tried to flash new radio though PGMG zip from a thread on xda

after I finished S OFF successfully and installed customer rom ..
now i cannot go into recovery normally.. n if i somehow access recovery by boot command it installs every thing like normal but on rebooting the evo it comes back to hboot screen
trying flash any thing (recovery) through adb commands gives the "error parition update fail" i dont know if i bricked my device or what i m so upset. n i dont know how to proceed.. if any one please suggest me something i would really repay for it by wotsoever way,..

I have flashed cm mod 10 on my evo after super wipe
and my phone got bricked it won,t boot to hboot tested on new battrey charged and nothing

And it seems that my evo won,t get into the emmc mod to be repaird so any chance of getting it repaired while having s-off on your phone

I Have tried it all
The hboot is bricked maybe
And my phone shows qsubs_dlload on the device manager
My phone is hard Bricekd some how
Fastboot won,t detect it and so do adb
i will hope that htc could fix it
I can,t get into the emmc recovery state because iam S-off too bad for me
Are you Cdma or Gsm? It could be that you might have flashed the wrong type of rom for your device. Well, in anycase you could check the unbrick method posted in the cdma or gsm development thread. Good luck to you.

I apologize I did not read the part about fastboot and adb wont recognize your device. Did you try to install the composite adb drivers for your device? If that doesn't work then you will definetely need to send it in for repair. It sounds to me whatever you did will need a repair tech to step in.
Thanks for replaying
Any way Iam planning to send it to repair today
And Iam GSM
I have downloaded the zip files
The name started with shooter_U Wich mean GSM
I have figured out that you can't enter emmc_recover if you are s-off
So next time if my phone got repared
I will try to keep it s-on
Only root and 4ext
And I will stay on stock ron unless a super amazing in believeable Tom comes up

Hey all
I've done the searching through all of the forums on here, and all around Google. I decided today that I was going to root my phone and get a custom rom in it. I first started out with CM7, and that just kept going into an endless boot cycle where it never actually booted up.
Since that didn't work, I tried a different rom, which did the same thing, but just never made it past the HTC screen. Now I've tried to do honestly everything that I could possibly think of just to get the phone to boot up and work, and the thing that got it the closest was installing a stock rom.
Once I installed a stock Rom, I booted it up, and it started up until it got to the lock screen. It started to look like it was going to go, but just got to the lock screen and reboots from there. I don't know what to do, and RUU won't recognize that my phone is even there, and the Bootloader won't recognize the RUU .zip file.
I'm not sure what to do, and at this point I just want a working phone. I can get a video of exactly what's going on if it would help. Video is up on Youtube. /watch?v=jCF_-7ZP-CQ
Edit: For more Info - CDMA, HBOOT 1.58.0000, S-ON, Unlocked, Don't know Baseband, using TWRP1.1.1 Recovery, and the last ROM I had attempted was Sick Sense. vx.1.
More info would definately increase the likelyhood of getting your phone up and running . Hboot version, cdma or gsm, s-on or s-off, and if possible baseband, recovery and what rom?

Alright, updated the first post, thanks.
Seems you need to flash the kernel via fastboot since you're s-on, everything seems to point to that, although I could be wrong..

No problem, wish I could help you but unfortunately I have the gsm version, hboots are issues on some roms and being s-on wont allow you to flash the kernel , so 4ext recovery helps. You may also might look at going s-off too. Hope you get your answer. In the Q&A stickies you will see ask team drp any question, you may get answers there also

You know, that would make a good guide.
A thread with screenshots of where to find all the relevant information with a text attachment consisting of a template to be completed and attached to the OP of a new thread asking for help. Or just an inline form that could be copied and pasted into the OP and completed before it is posted.
Maybe "How to ask for help" would be a good title for the guide.
Any takers?

I've got a guide thread already. It can wait until you are unbanned.
I was thinking that if there's a free app that displays all the information on a single screen that might be even easier, but that won't help if people can't boot into Android. Come to think of it, there may be some info available from 4EXT and other custom recoveries that would help, but in the worst case it may come down to just the bootloader info.
It's probably easier just to ask when the info is needed since the procedure to get it depends on the situation.
ramjet73
So... Okay. While I fully support the idea of having an FAQ on what to do to ask a question, I did make some headway.
I ended up flashing a new ROM, and it booted up and it all worked until the only thing on the screen was process android.process.acore has stopped. And whenever I press OK, it just pops right up. I've read places that I need to factory reset, wipe all the caches, and reflash. Does this all sound right?

Sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you but I got distracted with the system info guide discussion.
You can flash a kernel (boot.img) with S-ON three different ways:
1. Using the "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command from a PC.
2. Using the Flash Image GUI app from a booted Android system.
3. Using the SmartFlash (S-ON) feature of 4EXT.
In your situation, I would recommend #1, since #2 and #3 require some setup. You could also use the "fastbboot boot recovery.img" command to start a custom recovery, then flash the entire ROM from there which will incude the kernel.
In the long run, I would suggest getting setup for #3 if you plan to stay S-ON.

It would be a good idea to use one of the superwipe zip files or the 4EXT "format all partitions excep SD card" before flashing the ROM. If you are only flashing a kernel, wiping cache+dalvik is all that is necessary and many of the installation scripts already have that included.
Sometimes if apps force close (FC) after a ROM flash the permissions need to be reset in recovery, but I think your problem is related to not formatting the partitions before flashing the ROM.
What ROM are you flashing? There are usually instructions for flashing on the OP of most of the ROM threads that include the required partition initialization.
ramjet73
Hey, sorry for not replying til now. I ended up just wiping it clean one more time with 4ext, clearing cache, and fixing permissions, then installing a new Rom that actually worked. I had to flashboot the boot.img, but regardless I got it to actually start up and work like a normal phone. You definitely gave me inspiration on what to try next, so thanks for that. Not even sarcastic. I ended up flashing the Team D3rp Drama rom, and after some permissions and cache cleaning up, it ended up working fine.

Now that you have a working ROM, try enabling the S-ON (SmartFlash) option in the 4EXT app. The next time you flash a ROM or kernel from 4EXT recovery you will know it worked if the phone boots twice, the first time to flash the boot partition (boot.img) and the second to boot into the actual ROM.

For the past 24 hours i have been dealing with my phone.
Trying to s off my phone i rooted and unlocked it via usual methods, finally reaching to j.bear wire trick part of the cmd. however upon reaching the wire trick part my phone would not succesfully complete the wire trick. I would get the still sober.
So in a mad rage i cleared system storage did a factory reset and went in recovery and did a superwipe.
This uninstalled my OS:crying:
Now i am stuck in this limbo between my being unlocked and loading the juopunut arrow screen and when i relock it i just keep getting back to bootloader. I was able to install a stock rom deodexed however after it finally finished installing it went right back to the juopunut black screen, I have a backup boot from when installed stock rom deo. but i wonder if that can do anything. Please help! i have not used android in about 3 years. I was on a windowsphone and i'm still very much used to that style so that is possible for my mistake. I got the Amaze 4g yesterday and i don't want my money wasted.

it may be possible. i do have access to the boot loader files however the only way i would be able to upload anything onto the SD would be to flash cwm..... i'll try it though
also since i know i left it out. I'm running tmous and the only reason i really did all this was to get rid of bloatware -_-
I am stuck at the black jbear screen with the arrow facing the phone.
You don't need to S-OFF to remove bloatware.
Good luck.

PROBLEM SOLVED (for the most part)
Thank you all for your help but i did discover that the only way to get myself off the constant switching between the jbear wiretrick screen and the bootloader loop was to use a wire from inside a telephone cord and complete the s off (even though it failed somehow) from there i had to manage my next issue of the constant bootloader which was solved through a matter of relocking my device, finding a original stock recovery file then having the amaze all in one kit flash the proper rom back to my phone.
Here's a tip for the next time you do the wire trick.
Use a metronome (or a website that uses a metronome ) and set it to 34 and use that rhythm and remember to only tap it twice.
Ok so here goes. I had my brother-in-law on my AT&T plan and was paying off his HTC One M8. Due to unforseen circumstances, I have removed him from my plan and have repossessed his phone. I would like to sell it to a friend, but have realized that the phone is rooted and would like to revert back to stock so the phone doesnt show tampered with or unlocked. I have the phone, just need someone to walk me through how to do this. I dont know what he used to root the phone, If there is even a recovery image. I can answer everything about the phone/software if someone can tell me where to locate the info.
PS.... I have been searching through these forums for awhile now and see threads that could apply, however I don't have ANY knowledge to be able to decipher if any of these pertain to my situation. I need a patient expert to walk me through step-by-step if possible.
Thank you in advance,

Do you know how to get into bootloader (the screen where it says TAMPERED and UNLOCKED)?
If so, on the 3rd line it says either "S-on" or "S-off" (at the end of this line). Which is it?
Also on that screen, it will say hboot number. What is the number?

Hold volume up button and power button until the phone reboots. The moment the screen goes black, let go of those buttons and hold the volume down button. Do not let go until the white bootloader screen appears.
If you don't get into bootloader, you either started pressing vol down too late, or let go of it too early. So just try again.

I do not have access to a PC/cable I can use. I am currently at work and cannot connect my phone to my work laptop for security reasons. I will have access to a PC at home in about 6 hrs.
Okay, sounds good.
I don't normally advocate toolkits, but the following is probably the path of least resistance in your case:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065
Follow instructions under "How to use" to install the phone to your home PC.
Then make sure you are ready to wipe the phone (backup any files you may want from it - possibly nothing in your case).

Also, on the phone's Settings, scroll to the bottom. Do you see a category for "Developer's Options"?
If so, tap it and make sure USB Debugging is selected.

No, it shouldn't. But if you want to be absolutely certain, just remove it.

Ok, great!
Do you have HTC Sync or HTC drivers installed on your home computer?
I won't be available tonight. So I'll give the whole rundown, and you can work on it when you get a chance. If you run into issues, I unfortunately won't be able to help until tomorrow morning.
Ok. Will try when I get home and post my success or failure...lol

Great, great. All good news so far!
Connect the phone to your computer.
Run the Toolkit and choose the option to relock the bootloader.
This is the point where the phone will be wiped, so backup anything you want before you do this.
Reboot the phone into bootloader. Once in bootloader, if the relock was successful, you will see RELOCKED near the top instead of UNLOCKED.
The phone will always say RELOCKED in bootloader once UNLOCKED, from here on out. There is a process to make it LOCKED, but its even more complicated and in my opinion not required for what you are doing.
Next, you want to download the RUU (ROM update utility) which is essentially a full recovery image. Relocking the bootloader was required to make the RUU run. Download from the link at the bottom of the page:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
Then follow the instruction on that same webpage under "Manual system update instructions"
Basically, the RUU is a .exe which will re-image the phone to stock. Its very self-explanatory and as long as the bootloader is RELOCKED and you have USB connectivity, it will do its job, and you will be DONE.
My opinion, the friend you are selling the phone to should still be aware it was at one time bootloader unlocked and rooted. Keeping in mind that HTC has a record of the bootloader being unlocked, and the warranty through HTC may be void. Don't know if the warranty through AT&T themselves is transferable? But if so, AT&T actually doesn't care if the phone has been modded, and will still honor the warranty for 1 year.
Aside from the HTC record that the phone was bootloader unlocked, and the RELOCKED flag in bootloader, the phone will be full stock; and should also receive OTA updates if connected to the AT&T network.
Thank you for all your help and expertise in this area. I will definitely try this tonight. Cross your fingers! I will post tonight whether successful or failed. Thank you again!
Good luck!
