Changing brightness levels on power widget - Motorola Photon 4G

I've recently been messing with the automatic backlight option and the display values under the power widget brightness button. My question is "is there any way to change the values that the power widget looks at rather than the default values it shows (ie. Auto, Dim, 25%, 50%, etc.)?" I've been through the build.prop but I don't see anything so I'm assuming its a framework edit? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks

The images for the power widget are in the settings.apk. except for the actual icon, all the rest are .9 pngs

No, I'm asking about the actual value that the power widget brightness input looks at. So when I tap it instead of it jumping from dim to 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%, is it feasible to change those values threw a back door? For example, I typically set the dim value to 10 under automatic backlight settings and leave the phone on the dim setting all day to save battery. But this is to bright at night so I have to go in and change the dim setting to 1 and then my screen is perfect. My intentions are to change the value of the steps up just like you are able to do under the automatic backlight settings in cyanogen settings. These values are not percents but rather an integer between 1-255, 1 being very dim(1%) to 255 being the brightest possible(100%).
Please let me know if anymore information is needed to clarify my intentions. Thanks

I imagine an XML file in the settings.apk. you'll probably have to decompile it with apltool
Sent from my Motorola Sunfire using XDA premium

It's in the brightnessbutton.java in the frameworks/base/packages/systemui....
You add more values and define them. Like 50% is in the arrays/strings.xml.
I n the brightnessbutton.java is:
private static final int MID_BACKLIGHT = (int) (MAX_BACKLIGHT * 0.5f);
There's 5 settings already, but you can add or redefine 0.5f value.

And what tools do I need to edit these? Link preferred as I've tried finding many and am somewhat confused

My way is done by building from source. I'm not too sure if you can from decompiling.

Whatever method is used, could you lend a helping hand to the tools you use? I want to start writing my own gingerbread since its the most stable of all the operating systems on our phones and I figure starting with something simple like this could get me in the door

Any input? I downloaded the sdk and have been going through the classes bit this just seems to utilize apks...again any input on the methods used to edit these files or the programs used would be great

Do people know pressing the notification bar sets the brightness?
Left is lowest middle is middle and right is highest, so when I don't use it,
I put it in lowest and when I do, I put it highest for better quality.

That is such an awesome feature! Just slide your finger across the status bar left or right and voila!
Rock on!

That is pretty cool, they also make widgets that you can quickly control your brightness. The one I use is made by curvefish.
The above works as long as you have auto-adjust brightness turned off.
Just wanted to save a few it doesn't work on my phone posts.

[Q] screen brightness Q

Hello!
Very first post in this board...
There's similar threads under different phones but nothing I can find under the mopho forum, if there is please redirect me!
so here it goes: is there any way to decrease the brightness of the screen beyond moving the slider in the settings down to 0?
Thanks!
There's a free app in market called screen filter made by haxor. Try it!
There is also that power widget that allows you to set it to auto, lower and higher. Not sure if that is low enough though.

I think all this app does is "grey out" your screen. I'm pretty sure that the backlight stays at whatever setting it was at before starting the filter. You may get a bit of savings by disabling the soft key backlight, if you have them.
Not trying to be a smarta$$, but I do love this app.

App does the trick ... except it adds another icon to the display at the top. Isn't there a file that can be edited in the system to reduce the minimum brightness level?

Enable Software Buttons for ICS Passion v10.6 (1-8-2012) Version 0.1

Disclaimer:
Currently this is not fully tested and could cause instability and crashes.
***USE AT YOUR OWN RISK***
Do not use with any other ROM besides neobuddy89's ICS Passion Version 10.6
This mod adds the onscreen software buttons for neobuddy89's ICS Passion ROM version 10.6 found here
This is based on evilisto's guide found here
What this Mod Does:
Adds onscreen buttons like you would normally find on phones and tablets which have no physical buttons.
This mod adds home, back and recent app buttons at the bottom of the screen (or on the right side in landscape mode)
Why would you want this?
1. because you can.
2. ever been in low light conditions, using your screen filter app to dim your screen nice and comfortably low when BAM your blinded because you hit the back button?
3. it looks neat.
Instructions:
1. backup everything in case you need to revert.
2. its a good idea to make a backup of your current framework-res.apk (found in system/framework)
3. disable your lockscreen (this is a current bug I hope to fix soon)
4. download the attached framework-res.apk
5. either use adb or a root file browser to replace the current framework-res.apk with the new one.
6. reboot (if you've done this through a file browser on the phone it will likely do this by itself)
6. enjoy
Current Known Issues:
1. The lockscreen becomes extra large and the locking mechanism is displayed slightly off screen. (you can still use it but it is very difficult to get the lock to catch)
2. the settings menu looks different, some of the text is not formatted correctly.
3. the keyboard overlaps slightly. (it is still usable but you might hit a soft button occasionally when going for the space bar)
4. this appears to take away the additional items on the reboot menu.
5. more of a downside than an actual bug and its likely implied but this takes up an extra little bit of your screen.
6. It made me re-sign in to google I cant say this will happen to everyone.
7. probably quite a few more bugs I haven't found yet.
Please feel free to let me know of any additional bugs you find.
Special thanks to Neobuddy for an awesome ROM
and of course to evilisto for the Idea.

Changing the screen density would work but it also causes some app compatibility issues.
Mostly small issues like the apps not filling the screen.
But I am hoping to find a workaround that does not require this.
Of course if your already changing screen density then this shouldn't be a problem for you anyways
I'll play around with it and update the op with the correct density for those who want to go that route for now.
Thanks for the feedback guys.

Change density + market enabler = problem solved??
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
The market actually works it just makes you sign back in once after installing the mod.
And I'm not entirely convinced it wasn't just a fluke.
I've been playing with LCD density changer from the market and it doesn't seem to be changing the home screen for me randomly.
It does make the keyboard a bit smaller but pushes it to the left.
I'm still playing with it though.
Hopefully I'll find a good setting
Does anyone use a density changer on ics?
If so which app do you use?

Yeah I don't want to just flash this and be like ehhhh and then revert it... I want to be able to have a switch to turn it on and off, that'd be great, but its a bit hard to implement i would guess.
I'm still working on it but progress is slow during the week because of work. And my sister is getting married this weekend.
I expect to work on it a lot more next weekend. Although with any luck I'll get something working sooner.
Basically I've found that enabling the soft buttons seems to enable all tablet oriented options even when they are specifically set to off.
I'm currently trying to find a workaround for that.
I did find a couple other fun but mildly pointless options as well like allowing the lock screen to rotate.
Or disabling the screen turning on when plugging or unplugging the phone.
But I'll play with those a bit after I get the soft buttons fully working.

I think I found it.
When I recompile the apk its adding some stuff that I didn't tell it too.
Once I can figure out why, I think this will solve a good 90% of the bugs.
More to come soon..

Someone help me making an easy task?

Hello,
I need you help guys
Usually I use quickpic with max auto brightness when watching photos.. But lately quickpic lag a lot in my phone and I don't want anymore to use it
So I switched to default aosp gallery (I'm using an aosp ROM)
Is possible to make a task that automatically set max brightness when I open the gallery? Using auto brightness as standard drive ..
Thanks a million
Erto

Yeah, you can use Tasker (in the Play store) to make brightness max when you open the app and put it back to auto when you exit the app.

But this way you'll never learn how to use Tasker! Trust me, it's difficult when you first start off but then once you get the basics you'll be able to make tasks and profiles very easily.
You can have a look at some examples of here: http://tasker.wikidot.com/step-throughs
I might sound as if I'm not being helpful but I honestly think you're better off learning yourself, much more useful in the long run
R: Someone help me making an easy task?
You are perfectly right mate
So I need to
1) run gallery
2)disable auto brightness
3)set brightness to 255
4) end task at application exiting
I will try

Try that, if you find that auto brightness doesn't come back on you might need to make an exit task to set brightness to auto again when you quite the gallery app. Also I think you might need to set brightness to 254 (I read somewhere 255 is auto brightness).
You'll be a Tasker pro in no time

Ah I see what you're trying to do.
So first off you'll need to make a Task to switch off auto brightness and set brightness to max, then make another Task that sets brightness to auto. After you've made those two you can make a Profile which has the trigger, the gallery app launch and you can select the first Task you made as the one to be executed and the second Task you made as the exit task to be executed when you leave the gallery app.
R: Someone help me making an easy task?
Wow I think I have done it
Made 2 task and the launch app
Then the sequence is
Launch app, then launch a task that disable auto rightness and as ending task the one that set brightness to max
Seems all working ,but got question,
there always that it need to be always active ?

Awesome!
I think you can adjust the settings to stop telling you that you have low memory. You can also remove the notification in the settings too. Tasker will always run in the background but it's very lightweight from what I've seen.

Light Flow Settings?

Just curious how many people here have toyed around with the app "Light Flow". I've been testing different settings for a couple of weeks now, but I wonder if there is a way to make the LED brighter? I set the numerical to 255 like it suggested but it didn't really change much. Is it safe to go higher or could I burn out the LED on my S4?
