Firmware upgrade encountered an issue - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, I might sound like an idiot here but it is my first time. I tried to use odin to root my VERIZON sch-i605 phone but did not realize i downloaded the n7100 .tar file. during installation, it failed and i was force to take out the battery. now the phone boots up saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I have tried looking for a stock recovery or a md5 file but i honestly am not that technical so i am not really sure what i am doing. please help.

I don't have the answer to your question to help but...please see the highlighted par above in the quote. Why would you attempt this if your statement is true? I hope you get it straightened out and hopefully others can learn from this as well. Good luck!

[Q] help with major root/unroot issue please

Ok, so I think I have really screwed up. I was updated to the latest update. I then tried to root using the terminal emulator process and wasn't sure if I succeeded. So I tried to unroot by trying to use Odin to put an earlier stock rom on my Verizon GS4. I got a fail error in Odin and a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it and an error on the phone that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. I tried connecting through Kies, but the phone would not connect. I have tried (with what I think are earlier stock ROMs) to fix it through Odin. I keep getting the same error on my phone and can't get past it. The only other thing I can do on my phone is get into download mode. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have the same problem. Basically whats wrong is the new update that both you and I did on the S4 locked the bootloader. What his means basically is it cannot be downgraded to earlier stock firmwares. So what we need to use in Odin is the stock file for the Build VRUAME7 Android 4.2.2 not the older one thats Build VRUAMDK. Now I have not been able to find this Stock file anywhere. If you'd like to join the search it would be awesome. Haha
The me7 odin image is in the dev section.

[Q] [HELP]Firmware upgrade encountered an issue

I tried flashing custom recovery and when i rebooted my phone it went into download mode. i tried using the one click odin restore but now its stuck on, "Firmware Upgrade Encountered An Issue. Please Select Recovery Mode In Kies & Try Again" I downloaded Kies and installed drivers and followed instructions but it keeps failing to find my device. Also I am now reading somewhere else that Kies will not solve this issue any way and I still cant find a solution to this problem.

After i got an ME7 phone i tried using odin to go back to MDK (i was desperate and ignorant) and this happened to me.
You can odin the ME7 stock image and it'll be fine..... but i recommend that you either call or go to a verizon, tell them your problem and they should send you a replacement...... also start praying that what they send you is an MDK
my humble suggestion :silly:
Edit: my bad, go you!

Would it be bad to ask for a replacement with MDK? Just curious, because I'm afraid my GS4 I'm receiving Monday will come with ME7.
You can try but im doubting they will. If it was at a verizon store or best buy generally they dont mind.

Like hexitnow said, if you got ME7 you have nothing to lose (sadly) so feel free to give it a go.
the lady at my verizon store was a witch but they're all different, not a bad idea to try another store if it doesn't work the first time haha

[Q] How can I unbrick my S4?

Ok. So here's what happened. I wanted to root my verizon galaxy s4 and put stock kitkat on it. It was on 4.3. So I rooted it. No problem. Then I tried to put on CWM so I could flash AOPK. But, once I put CWM on, I could not get it into recovery mode. It said that unauthorized software was on my device, not approved by verizon. The only way I could turn on the phone was to put it into download mode and then hit cancel. I wanted to unroot the phone at that point and try again. Also with downgrading it. So I downloaded ODIN and tried to restore my phone to samsung stock 4.2.2. So I tried it, it worked for a while and then ODIN said that it failed. Then when I turned on my phone, it gave me a message saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." So I opened Kies, connected the phone, and tried to do emergency recovery, but it did't recognize my device. So I selected firmware upgrade and instilation. It downloaded and everything but it said "this devices version cannot be updated." So now I have no idea what to do. I can only go into download mode now. Please help me! What should I do?

You have some reading to do. You can't install anything but SafeStrap recovery on your 4.3 S4. You also can't downgrade.
Here are the MK2 Odin files you need to get that phone fixed up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209
Try the no wipe first then if that doesn't take you'll have to use the full wipe.
Then you can use saferoot to root it again and this time install SafeStrap.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
You should read before you do things. You can't use a custom recovery like cwm if your s4 was on 4.3 stock. You can't use odin to downgrade to 4.2 either. Odin the full wipe mk2 tar and stay on stock software before you make your phone a paperweight.

Please help me unbrick my phone.

Hello everyone,
I've looked through the forums and I haven't found a good way to unbrick my Verizon Galaxy S4. What happened I think was that I already had safestrap recovery installed and I tried to install a different recovery without first uninstalling safestrap. Anyway, the phone won't boot up normally now. It goes into download mode first. And now, it says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." Kies doesn't even recognize the phone so that is not an option.
I have tried to flash a stock image with Odin, but every single time I get a "fail". I've tried multiple version of Odin, including 3.09 but I haven't had success yet.
Could anyone help me get my phone working again?
Thanks.

I'm not sure of the build, but I tried both files in this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209
I've tried others but I believe the ones above should work? I still get a "fail" every time I try to flash them. I've had this error before but I cannot remember how I got it to work.

Any chance you can post the screen of the Odin fail error or tell us where it's failing?
Side from that idk... Odin is seeing your phone so not the drivers. I'd say try the MK2 file and you could also try putting the PIT file from that thread in Odin along with the tar just to try it in the mean time.

Also... You think you had SS on your phone? But not sure?, there's a chance your phone is on NC5 Kit Kat and that's why MK2 won't work but really we need more details before going that route.

[Q] Firmware upgrade encountered

So, this all started last year when i wanted to disable updates. For the life of me, i cant remember what i did but there have been no updates. Recently, I have been getting the OTA notification to update. So i did that and when it installs it gives an error at 26%. My phone is rooted and has USB debugging on so i put it in download mode and tried to use ODIN to update it with both the stock firmware and KitKat. they both failed. Today, I tried to do it again but added the file to BL instead of AP in ODIN. Now my phone gives the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen. I tried to use Kies to fix it but it doesnt connect when this screen is up. When i restart the phone in download mode, then my computer detects the device.
I have a ATT gs4 model SGH-I337
Please HELP!

flash a stock rom and then fastboot flash your stock recovery, then update your phone the update should be triggered in the stock recovery, with a custom recovery, it won't work
the only other easy way around this besides doing what I said is to look for a firmware thread for your device and flash the firmware as a op who has tested it states.

So i did that but still got an error. I think that one of the reasons why it was messing up before is an issue with Kies blocking the port from opening. So i closed that out per the below thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622790
But it started and the status bar on my phone is now blue (which is what how this bigger issue started before) I found this other link that kind of fits whats going on. Should i just follow the PIT instructions from here and of course just restart my phone again?

I think you may want to pm the developer of kies to solve your issue, since I don't have your device, that's about as much help as I can be.

Im pretty sure i was at 4.3. So everything was working and then i found a random article saying that with the ALL_ATT_I337UCUFNB1_I337ATTFNB1_505595_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 update, you have to put in the PIT file again. So i did that and now my phone turns on and says custom, but then shuts off. I can go into download mode and recovery. I tried to factory reset everything but to no avail.

Hmm, the pit might be why you're having issues. Most updates don't need the separate pit file. If it's needed, it's often packaged in the main tar file. I would just redo the Odin flash without pit and factory reset afterwards.
