As far as I'm aware, Titanium Backup will not restore without root.

Assuming you can get to the factory recovery option from boot (stand on one foot hold these three buttons or whatever) you can use TB to make an update.zip of your backed up stuff, not sure but i know that the factory recovery on all samsung devices in the past have the default option of "apply update.zip from SD card" might be worth a shot. Worst case it just fails the update.zip and you haven't really lost anything.
after i realized titanium backup required root... (always using a galaxy nexus, i never even noticed, lol) i ended up purchasing my backup pro. doesn't backup settings of your apps though unfortunately and required me to click install for every app.

Just letting people know this method did work. All apps + data came across from my galaxy nexus. even things like my nova launcher which made me very happy.
The only problem is my gallery FC's now. I have another post about it but just thought i would update this one for informational purposes.

If I switch to a new ROM wipe my cache/data yaadaa yaadaa, then when I'mon the new ROM can I go back into CWM and go into advanced restore can I restore just my data will I get back all my apps and data and everything will be good? As long as my backup and new ROM are both EB01?

For just restoring Apps and the data when switching between roms, I recommend.....no, HIGHLY recommend Titanium Backup. Not only does this app backup apps and the data of the apps, it also backups the market cache, so on the market, the app would list as being installed. It's incredibly useful. It also allows you to uninstall system apps by the way.
I know that and that's not what I'm getting at, I don't want to get titainium backup pro and the regular titainium backup takes forever to restore because u have to hit install for every app and its very tidious sooooo, I came to the conclusion since its in my backup files why can't I just restore it from there because its just one click and no hassle... but I want to know if that works.
P.S. I have titainium... and mybackup root too...

It is tedious, but in my case worth it. I have not used MyBackup Root in app backups, but you can try.

It may have apps that are specific to the previous ROM. I've done it and it can work but if its a differnt ROM it can cause problems. try it and see.
Personally I'd save up the 6 bucks and buy Tibkup if you are going to flash ROMS Titanium Backup is going to be one (if not the one) most used application you will use. If you can't part with the 6 bucks get MyBackup Root I don't think it prompts you for restores but I could be wrong (I haven't' used it since I bought TB)

It doesn't always work. Titanium Pro is worth it if you're going to be flashing multiple ROMs. The time saved will equal much more than $6.

did i miss something? Batch Restore your app people....in the full licensed version, pay the money...it deserves it...phenominal app....only must have app i have come across since I've owned my original Droid....worked even when I switched to the Inc, and copied the backup folder over...(Apps+Data only, obviously no system stuff)
is that what you're getting at on post#3...pay the money and forget about worrying...I always wipe everything between roms, even updates to the one i'm running...then TiBU after flashing new rom...takes a couple minutes and I'm back up and running...even with Go Launcher, homescreens are backed up minus widgets

It does have something to do with tibkup if you want to restore your data. You've been told basically NO to your OP and to use tibk. If you don't want to listen why ask?

Which would be to BUY titanium Backup Pro or MyBackup Root
Other than that you can take a chance and restore /data or if your on 2.2 or higher let Google restore all your apps from the cloud but a lot of ROMs don't seem to auto restore.
Stop being cheap. It's worth it.

I just joined the root game with the purchase of the Rezound so i never learned how to backup and restore things. i just installed titanium backup and kinda backed everything up, took the files off of the sd card and put them back on and restored them when i flashed a new rom.
Now i heard about this method were you create an update.zip folder to flash in recovery and i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do this?
I thought it only installed titanium but I dont know. I will say this I run my backups on a schedule every night at 2 am everyday. I use force redo of backups. Then I know I'm backed up. I also sync that to my dropbox.

Ding ding ding. Drop box works great for this purpose. Then, if your internal/ext. Storage gets erased, you will always have it at your disposal.

Just so you don't have regrets later, just get in the habit of only backing up the user apps. If you jump roms you could run into some issues restoring system apps. Done there, been that

May want to look into MyBackup root, if all you're interested in is app backup. I have found it to be a little faster and it's free version allows "silent" restoring of apps.
I rooted my new galaxy sIII in hopes of using titanium backup to restore the apps off my old htc evo 4g. On the new phone the apps don't show up when I try to batch restore...
Any Idea how to get this to work?

did you put your old sd card in your new phone?
I have the feeling that titanium is searching your phone's internal memory rather than sd card for your backups.

That is correct, a lot of the apps search the 'sd card' but it won't automatically search the external sd card, the user supplied one.
Question's been answered, but I want to mention: be careful when restoring data like contacts and messaging. That's what I did that required a couple of factory resets to fix.
User installed apps restore just fine, as you would think. Even Swype, which surprised me.

Getting ready to move from my TB to a Gnex. Can I copy over my downloaded apps that titanium backs up and restore them over on the gnex??
It should work. Just download the apps from the market and restore the data if it won't restore the app and data.

Thanks man, I already dled all the root tools and the sorcery rom for the gnex. Suppose to get here tomorrow. Sold the tbolt for 140 and picked up the gnex for 200. Pretty happy.

You can do that, but make sure you only restore apps, not system data. What I typically do is restore only the app, then for the few apps that I actually need to restore data such as saved games, settings, etc., I'll restore data to those apps. I've run into issues when restoring app + data for all the apps.
Im currently on hyperdrive 7 and was looking to flash a different rom to try out, but neither rom toolbox pro or tibu will allow me to backup apps and data. I usually use rom toolbox pro, but when I try to backup app+data, it just starts failing every app. I tried tibu again just to see if the problem was rtp, but it will only restore the app without data. Most stuff I dont mind losing data on, but I have a few games and other things I dont want to start from scratch on. Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you successfully backed up and restored these before?
On rls6 I was able to restore everything and backup before moving to 7. When I got to 7, my apps would restore, but no data with them.

My usual backup location is on my external sdcard, and it doesnt work there. I tried using internal too, and it failed as well. Typically, its set to extsdcard/app_manager but thats a no go.

Did you backup rls6 before install rls7,if you have a backup try to restore a backup.and maybe that fix your problem..

I swear Titanium backup with the pro key..... 6 bucks.... but WELL FREAKING WORTH THOSE 6 BUCKS.... I promise you... you wont be sorry if you get this app... go youtube.com and search the channel wwjoshdew and look up his video titled "Titanium Backup Pro: Full In-Depth Review!" he explains very extremely thoroughly. Maybe make sure TiBU has SU access?
I did make a backup of rls6 when I flashed rls7, but have deleted it due to thinking everything was fully functional and trying to save space.
Also, I have titanium backup pro, purchased it a couple years ago but have found rtp to be more reliable. Both have superuser permissions.

I love titanium backup for backing up my Apps and I use the nandroid in TWRP for backing up my complete ROM. when I screw up and get into a no boot problem, I can boot to TWRP and do a complete restore
