[Q] Fpse, I can't get a good perfomance - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to everyone, i was looking for a good psx emulator to my sgs3. I have found that fpse is the most compatible, but i dont manage to get a good perfomance. I have read about many ppl saying they get about 50-60 fps in games using opengl and good stuff, but when I use open gl i get a very low frame rate (from 1-34 depending on setting). For me the only way to get a decent fps for playable games is just "old software drawing".
What am I doing wrong? do i need using chainfire or any other stuff?
PD: im using sgs3 i9300 with stock rom jb 4.0.4 and fpse 0.11.68

Glad you can get fpse to work, games won't even load for me. If you have any luck with this id like to know. Sorry I couldn't help though. Hope you get it sorted.

PSX4droid

Has anyone tried psx on O1?
For example MK4 run's slow on my O1.
Will a overclocked and HW accelerated rom do any difference?
no need to OC, just install the fix for the touchscreen and you are good to go. )
Well i get like 10 fps in x-men vs street fighter

Since psx4droid uses a touchscreen controller, all games requiring to keep pressing a control (like a racer requiring you to keep pushing right to steer right etc) will suffer a lot from the touchscreen bug. Touchscreen bug = if you put a finger on the screen and keep it there, it will get to 100% CPU very fast.
For now, I'd suggest to use the Touchscreen Bug Fix by mik_os (found here).
Other than that, use a OC kernel.
But generally, with gingerbread (by mik_os and andy) already in alpha, and a better psx emulator soon to arrive (FPSeCe for Android in "a few days"), i'd just wait a bit if OC + bugfix don't help...
Do you think we will be able to play Tekken 3 or something like that On our lg Optimus one with new emulator? With PsX4droid(i dont know why) but i have like 10 fps in every game i try...(and i have Touch fix), dont u know why?
Yep I tried nfs 3 and porsche, all laggy..

There is a video where the dev plays Tekken 3 using the emulator, but it's on a snapdragon 1Ghz device - we'll have to wait and see. (Tekken 3 demo in alpha build on youtube v=WHwGR2e1)
If the performance is comparable to his win mobile version, you could check the compatibity list www(dot)fpsece(dot)net/compatibility.html) - all green and yellow games should work perfectly, orange ones might or might not work (orange = 1ghz, yellow = 533Mhz, Optimus with OC is somewhere between).
For your genral PSX4Droid issues, check out the PSX4Droid forum by the dev: www(dot)androidemus(dot)com, especially the performance tips (first sticky)...
wow dude, thx a lot for information, but i quite dont belive it hehe. In fact, yes, my optimus is OC on 739 MHZ....so that should mean that i will run almost all the yellow and green games with high fps? do you belive that? because i quite doubt if if now i have like 10 fps with PSX4droid, but maybe the new emulator is better heh
oh yeah youre right
We will see heh, dont u know when its gonna release this new emulator on Android?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II powerful enough to run a DS emulator?

"Tiger Lab" DS emulator seems just like a proof of concept, but I wonder if anyone's tried it with SGS2 ? It's off the market obviously but maybe someone has the apk and can give it a shot?
Any hope for the future?

The SGS 2 should be able to emulate PSP games with it's power doubt it will because of the fact that theres no emulators, but i'm 100% sure it's powerful enough to emulate the DS.
Try NDS4Droid....
Works brilliantly..

When i use NDS4Droid the games run just as slow as on my old SGS so how did u manage to make it work *brilliantly*?
Powerful enough? The ds is nowhere near 1200 mhz (times two). The ds is running at about two times 125mhz. If I recall correctly!

Hi J.2K4V,
It looks like performance varies depending on game, can I ask what you've run which works at full speed?
Also development on the emulator seems dead, can you confirm you've not had any problems since you bought the emulator?

Emulation isn't clock-for-clock. You can't simply compare the clock speeds- on the phone you'll have to emulate the DS system and that takes a huge toll in performance.
The PS2 is clocked at 299MHz yet my i7-965 at 4GHz and Radeon 5970 desktop can just sorta run GT4 smoothly. On my iMac [i7-860 (3.46GHz) and Mobility 4850] it lags like a mofo.
OP- tried Mario Kart on the Tiger Lab DS emu. ~10fps in the menus and 1fps in-game. (so much for being 100% sure it's powerful enough eh? )
Going to buy/test nds4droid now...
Even Pokemon lags like hell on NDS4Droid
For speed issues it's mostly the emulator that isn't programmed well, wait for updates, the phone should be powerfull enough

Has anyone gained speed with overclocking? cfr tegrak

I see i had and old version 1.2.
Updated to 1.3 and still Mario Kart runs very slow ingame, menus and stuff is alot faster then SGS ofc. Still runs way to slow ingame.
Might be i only have slow games then, tried following:
Mario Kart = slow
New Super Mario Bros = slow
Smiley World Island Challenge = slow
Lego Star Wars 3 = slow
Im sure its will get better if its developement continues and it gets optimized better.
Tried Yoshi´s Island, looks like it works with normal speed.
So maby people could post wich games they can run with normal speed on current version of Nds4droid?
Still think the emulator needs alot of work before its viable for use.
No customization avalible and controls is abit small and hard to press correctly
It would be great if the emulator was optimized for dual core ^^
Mario Kart on nds4droid is about the same as the tiger labs emulator (1fps in game). It's probably better with 2D games though.

Development on nds4droid..

I know that there are trillions of threads out of there regarding the issue, and maybe, I'll even get some people telling me off for making a new thread about this, but does anyone have any news on any NDS emulator?
I think our Galaxy S II is strong enough to emulate the NDS.. The NDS has the following specs: (According to Wikipedia.org)
Resolution of 256 × 192 pixels
CPUs: Two ARM processors
32 bit ARM946E-S main CPU; 67 MHz clock speed. Processes gameplay mechanisms and video rendering.
32 bit ARM7TDMI coprocessor; 33 MHz clock speed. Processes sound output, Wi-Fi support and takes on second-processor duties in Game Boy Advance mode.
RAM: 4 MB of mobile RAM, expandable via the Game Boy Advance slot (expansion only officially used by the Opera web browser).
OR, if anyone else is ready to continue the development, it would be really great. I know I'm being selfish here as a newbie, but I think it would be really worth the effort, as there would be many people like me dying to emulate NDS on our phones..
True. But seems to be a pain to emulate. Let's just wait, stare, and see.

Yeah, I know how much effort it takes to emulate stuff, but still this project could be worth it. Believe it or not, we've all been waiting for a long time for this emulator.
The last version we saw for the nds4droid was v1.3, and no updates have been released thereafter, AFAIK... So, does any know about any version later than 1.3? *resumes hoping to play Pokemon Pearl on his phone someday*
i wish i knew how to code..i badly want to this fully functional!!
So do many other people.. Is there any way we could support the original developer with his project? I mean, if the dev wants to make this app usable, there will be many people who will be ready to donate to the dev for his hard work. Any possibility we could contact them?
Erm, I don't think I'll let this thread die.. Will someone be willing to help to keep this thread alive?
I just wanted to say that I have installed this on my GS2 running CM9 and it runs smooth as gameboid!
Only thing that needs fixing... no audio... if surely someone could work out how to enable audio, that is all this needs to run on modern day droids!

There are two emulators that were being developed but ceased; tiger nds and nds4droid.
The galaxy s2 is powerful enough to handle a nds emulator. It's not the phone that is running the games slow, and without sound, but the coding of the apks.

If i remember correctly the main reason NDS emulation on PCs took a while was because the coding was wonky, for example even the current NDS emulator on computers is poorly optimized
our SII's have more then enough juice to run it, but again i think adapting the code is the problem, guess all we can do is wait *waves surrender flag*

[Q] A little help here please

I have a Galaxy Ace s5830m rooted with acegingerroot. Id like to know once and for all if this phone can run 3d games like Nova etc. I've installed and tinkered with chainfire but white screens, crashes and garbled graphics are all i get. (i tried without chainfire btw, same result). Before rooting same result as well.
I can find nothing on the net regarding this model of the galaxy ace which makes me suspect i wasted time and money.
Im on gingerbread 2.3.6 stock
Baseband is s5830MWHKL4
Kernel Version is 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1
Thanks in advance
I found a flash that puts it back kinda to stock, then you know your phone has no errors so then you can go back to rom huntin, then start making backups from every decent rom you find.
http://androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-ace-gt-s5830-gingerbread-234-xxkph-firmware/3/
Gracias gonna go try it out
The ace is very much capable of running 3d games. Some run OK (Asuasins creed, nfs shift, hero of Sparta) some of them lag. Just make sure the games are compatible with armv6 processor and the game videos are MP4.
Look around on the web and you'll find lots of games ported to armv6 to work on the ace (with caution, since a lot are warez, and many warez can cause crashes or put malware on your phone)

DUDE N.O.V.A is HDPI u gotta get a ported version GIYF...Also it runs smooth on my ace (Ported version)
480-806MHz
Chainfire 3d-Nividia Drivers
SlaidyBoost
And my own bare-bone rom
AND YES IF U WAN'T A GAIMING PHONE THIS IS A WASTE OF MONEY!

Can someone post tested games here with FPS and reviews? Or maybe we can open a new thread for this topic on PSP games that runs good on our phone.
OMFG !!! USE GOOGLE :/

PPSSPP setting discussion> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521371
I know how to use google and I have been using this PSP emulator since earlier version, as for the forum I know its existence and I visited it many times and read through. And yes, I have play around with all the psp setting too. Just to let you know that I am not someone who is lazy to find answer by googling. The reason I ask people to give reviews about tested games here is because I think it is easier to discuss it over here since all of us using the same phone, also this thread is already here, why can' t we make use of it? Just saying, no offence and thanks for all the links given too, it may help others perhaps.
I didn't tested many games myself but
Castlevania Dracula x chronicles works fast on our device (despite symphony of the night not working...)
Tales of the world radiant mythology 3 crashes after some battles...
And Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is super laggy...
I have tried a lot of games, about 30++ , and because it's been long ago so I'm not really remember how was it, but as I remember the games that works well are Bleach Heat The Soul 7 and Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai.

It will be good on s2 i guess, since its not pretty bad on s advance , and yes i think overclocking might help too, but the most important thing is you must know how to play with the settings, different game will have different performance even though with the same settings
