Before anyone gets all mad, I'm asking because I'm torn between getting this phone or the Galaxy Note II. The specs here are most excellent and its very, very similar to the Nexus 4. But there is just sooo much more happening for the Note II than there is over here. Why isn't the LGOG getting more love? It seems like that might be scaring people away. What do you guys think?

I have read that entire thread; I've been lurking for a while. Also, Ibet myself you would be the first person to reply to me. So, thanks! I think it is rather short-sighted to go with a phone just for what it can do out of the box. Potential and upside are what people buy these shiny new phones for and what XDA is about. Otherwise it wouldn't be needed. That said, I'm only asking if anyone knows why there is such a disparity in the two communities. If no one knows, that's fair enough as I'm only asking.

Welcome. :B
Perhaps you should think to yourself, "If XDA did not exist, which phone would I get?"
Good luck deciding, Mr. Sassafrass.

Welcome Jank4AU, i too am coming from the I777 GS2. You have helped on that forum once or twice if i recall correctly. I to was on the fence between the two devices. I love samsung devices and the dev community over there. Its very robust as you know. But the Note is and was just to big for me. Size is what made me decide. I believe in a month or two the Lg optimus g just may take off. Maybe. If you are patient, i say wait it out. Good luck making your decision. Btw. I'm rooted and unlocked.

Yeah man, almost all my XDA posts have been on the I777 forums. I learned how to do my boot animations over there. Just made the latest one for SHOstock3. I wish Shoman94 would jump over here; THAT would make up my mind. But, that's neither here nor there. I should probably just put my darn money where my mouth is and try to make my own ROM. How hard can it be right? Obviously kidding...

Bit the bullet and got the OG. I know better than to give an impression of a device immediately after spending a wad of cash on something, but this is pretty cool. Looking forward to using it for a few days then rooting. Will work on a custom boot animation and some signatures in the coming weeks. But, I am excited...

That'd be awesome man!
I've been asking that same question ever since the OG came out. It's actually quite strange that development has been so relatively slow considering the fact that the Nexus 4 hardware is based off of the OG. It could be because of the locked bootloader, even though it's already been unlocked through an exploit. I'm planning on getting it myself since my contract expired 3 months ago, but the slow pace of development has worried me a bit.

Just my two cents, and just guessing!
Bad news first:
Even though the OG has expandable storage & LTE, the dev community will support the Nexus 4 50x more than this phone (I feel like this is very likely).
For one, the Nexus 4 is a Nexus phone.
I gather from other posts that the OG has a locked bootloader? I bet that will eventually be overcome, but that's still sorta like a red flag, and could make it more prone to bricking.
The Nexus 4 is a Nexus phone.
The price of the N4 is really attractive, and will probably have a huge market, and a larger market is (IMO) more attractive to develop for. Some devs have multiple devices of the same model, so price could definitely be an issue!
The Nexus 4 is a Nexus phone!
Now some good news!
If the bootloader gets an easy unlock, then after some time - like, winter/spring 2013, perhaps - I expect some of the N4 devs will gain interest in the OG for the LTE/expandable storage/familiar architecture. Some of the popular Nexus 4 ROMs will get "ported" to the OG, which I imagine will be fairly simple, considering the similar chipsets. I feel like this is fairly likely.
Sorry if that wasn't what you wanted to hear, just throwing out my guesses
If you need LTE/SD, sit tight, devs will come eventually... after all, this phone is still basically BRAND new. If ROMs are what you want in a phone, and can live with 3G and USB OTG for SD storage, then jump ship for a Nexus 4.
oh HUGE EDIT: didn't realize you were considering Note II, not N4, sorry! Go for the Note II, that's what I would get if I could choose between the two! The Note II really lends itself to ROM/theme stuff, some reallyneat things happening over there!

So, you have 1 point: The OG isn't a Nexus phone and the N4 is? Thanks for your brilliant insight.
The problem I see is that the devs, or at least the ones I work with, have all upgraded recently and are stuck paying full retail for phones. That gets expensive. I'm the only one on our team with the phone, and it is too much for me to take on with work and family. What is crazy to me is that I read in other threads where members are donating to devs so that they can get them to work on a phone. Not only that, but I know of a dev that got the donated phone, did one little ROM (took out all the bloat which anyone can do with TB) and then turned around and sold the phone! That is just plain wrong. Hell, any money we get from out TN site goes right back into the site to pay for the server and such.
Why in gods name would people give a phone to someone like that.

I admit that I am a bit jealous after seeing the amount of development already going in the N4 but I am sure that we will also get some cool roms pretty soon. What I am more worried about is the lack of accessories since we can't even get a decent case for the AT&T version.

Well, it started with the many replacements of the tbolt, then HTC's hard stance against updating their tablets kinda pushed me over the edge, then they updated the flyer/view to broken software and they wont even fix it. Now the Rezound is having touchscreen issues. So I'm just tired of dealing with the problems and the lack of OEM support after purchase. I appreciate the Dev community for the zound, but sammy seems to be stronger in that dept. So I think I am going to give them a shot. I won't touch Moto with a ten foot pole. It may be a bad move, but I'm willing to take that risk after all the issues I have had recently with HTC. So for me, from here on out, it's going to be Nexus, or Samsung.
Samsung is worse.
I love my Rez and I still think of it as probably one of the, if not the most undervalued android phone released to date, but I don't see myself going for yet another carrier exclusive device after this. Of course, reviews might be so great for the DNA that I could change my mind but so far I am not that impressed.
Having said that however, the lack of a LTE capable Nexus 4 kinda limits the options for those looking to upgrade atm and I really cant see myself with a Galaxy S device. Wish Sony would be given a chance at penetrating the US market, they seem to strike a fair balance between corporate dev support, hardware and software quality.
I'll be getting this. The hardware and build quality will be top notch, it can be unlocked through HTCs dev website and be able to load cm. It was between this and the note but son, I am dissapoint at it having the older gen exynos and 720p screen on a 5.5 inch screen.
no, my next phone will be honor 2 or note 2
battery is important factor to me now

Its looking like ill most likely be getting it. I'm thinking ill be getting the DNA and one other new gen phone probably a GSM phone since I have two contracts, one with ATT and one with Verizon.
But I will be more careful than usual with this purchase. I'm currently so broke I can't afford the down payment on a grilled cheese sandwich. But this phone is a priority, and I owe it to the BAMF community. So I've been saving my pennies and will be selling some stuff to raise some funds.

samsungs radios and signal are 10x worse.
in my house, my gs3 gets about 6kbps download on 3g.
my rezound, when its not pulling 4g in my house (which the nexus and GS3 CAN'T), pulls atleast half a meg to a meg per second. doing anything on the gs3 on 3g is terrible, and ridiculously slow. fb app won't even load. rezound loads it no problem. hell, i even tethered 3 tablets to my rezound last night and while we were all browsing at the same time, ti was STILl faster than my gs3
i don't think i'd buy antoher samsung phone ever again, and i really want the DNA...dunno if i wanna fork out 600 bones for it tohugh
I'm considering buying this device, and I was wondering what people think of it, how the development is, and last but not least, how hard is it getting used to the size. I've played around with it for a little bit, but $300 is a little hard to swallow for something I'm unsure of. I appreciate any opinions... BTW I looked for a general talk thread before I posted here

I haven't read many complaints at all. I didn't have to get use to the size, it was nice right away.
Look in the development sections, it was rooted 2 or 3 days after release and the bootloader was unlocked a week later.
There are at least 5 or 6 ROMs out for it at the moment.
I have owned about 12 android phones since the OG DROID.... This is easily the best phone I have ever owned. The size feels normal now... Doesn't feel big at all. I could never go to a smaller screen now. This phone is stupid fast too.... All around awesome

i have to say this is my best upgrade since going from the curve to the original droid. Ive had the droid x, thunderbolt, charge, and gs3, but this is just another world of usefulness. I havent turned my tablet on since getting it.
I have owned practically every Motorola android phone. This is my first Samsung. I am thoroughly impressed. It's absolutely awesome. At this point it would take me a lot to go back to Motorola - or a smaller phone. I love the size of it. It has almost replaced both my tablets. I would highly recommend it.

Best phone I've owned, I'm 6'5 so the size makes no issue to me. I feel funny holding any other device now. Don't forsee myself ever owning anything smaller. On the other hand, rumors of the n3 being 6.3in are crazy? This device is sized perfectly.
I was also able to haggle with Verizon down to $250, tell them you know a manager in another territory that can ship you phone on discount but you don't wanna wait, tell them you want to walk out with it today (when you go in). Discount is around $60 from a territory manager I know...
Good luck!

No regrets at all I was scared to jump on it but after having the phone for a little while it's amazing.
I think you'll have more trouble getting used to the size of any phone other than this one once you've used it. After one day with this phone I don't imagine I could ever use a smaller phone again. As for development, considering how new it is, it's pretty impressive. We have a few TouchWiz and AOSP roms already. I thought 300 was outrageous at first (considering all other high-end phones are about 200) but considering the amount of phone (feature-wise and physically) it is pretty reasonable. Just go for it. I am (almost) willing to personally guarantee you'll love it.

I just got this phone yesterday. I paid full retail price for it. I thought I would be disappointed, however I love it. I have had the OG droid, the Galaxy nexus, Droid bionic, HTC rezound... and now this. The OG droid was my favorite before this. All the phones in between were pretty bogus, none of them met my expectations. This phone is a massive leap in hardware and software compared to all the others.
You ask that question on this forum.. what results are you excepting? If people are here, they are fans of the device.
As for me, it's awesome. I got my teenage son one too, he is ecstatic.
I couldn't decide and finally just said **** it since Verizon extended the return period. So far I'm very happy. Came from a Galaxy Nexus...

im in the same boat , bought off contract to keep unlimited data. In coming from a gnexus I will say that I love love love the hardware but I hate the software. I've become such a CM fanboy that i think im just jaded to sloppy looking touchwiz and carrier bloat. ill be in heaven once some official cm nightlies start rolling out. for now the jelly beans rom and nova have hidden a lot of the touchwiz bs but theres still a lot to remove to be back to normal. I have to also add that im very impressed with the battery life of this thing.
I paid the full price for and I hate paying full price for anything and it was worth it. You part of the club yet?
Trying to get some opinions here. I have a ATT unlocked Note i717 and a guy wants to trade his brand new Nexus 4. I know to some this may be a no brainier but from what I've seen it's not all that. And it's made by LG. I was thinking it'd be a advantage to get and trade for something else but it's not that popular in my area it seems. And granted you can get it for $300 for the 8GB and $350 for the 16gb (which he has).
I love my note and don't have any issues with it really. What do you guys think?
I would do it, especially if it is a straight-up trade.
Yes, it is LG, but Nexus 4 and Optimus G (and pro) are very well-made phones.
Nexus 4 will get updates right away, and has better specs. In the long-run, it is a better phone to keep. As much as I love my Note, I would trade it for a Nexus 4 in a heartbeat.

Well didn't keep the guy waiting and did the trade. It's almost as if I walked in the store and bought it myself, that's how new it is. I'll give it some time to see if i'll grow on it but so far it was definitely a good trade. No cash involved just a straight trade. The guy was happy with it.

any phone made of glass front and back is not worth it unless your getting some hefty ass case for it. no clue why lg didnt learn from apples mistake with ip4/4s glass backs always broke, same happens here on nexus 4's/lg g's
and yes it will get STOCK ota update faster, but most people run aftermarket roms which get updated just as fast, so i have no clue why people try and use "gets updates first" as a selling point to people, esp on xda
but to op, id go into a carrier that has a lg optimus g and see how you like it before trading just to be sure your ok with smaller screen, i got an s3 recently and gave it to my sister 2 days later, the screen size was to much of a deal breaker.
I bought a nexus 4 a few months ago and was able to get $360 for my note on eBay.
Took a few days to adjust to a smaller screen size but I got used to it.
No LTE kinda sucks but I've been getting over 10MB down on HSPA+ so I can't complain there
Battery life has been somewhat disappointing but the N4 charges very fast and I never find myself going that long without access to a charger
Other than those gripes the phone is really, really good. I wouldn't hesitate taking the N4 over the Note and I loved my Note.

Sinking ship?? I am running 4.2.2 on my G-Note..doesn't feel like a sinking ship to me...and the N4 isn't LTE enabled, and has no SD expansion..and its made by LG...LG has been rather lack luster in my opinion . I dont care if the N4 was the same size as the note, I still wouldn't do it. In terms of Nexus phones, the N4 was a flop. Just my opinion .

Getting an s3 was the best decision I ever made. So much smoother and better imo.
That being said I would take a note 2 in a heart beat.
Flop? The note is probably not going to see official jb and ics is laggy.
The sales of the nexus 4 are insane, the gpu/cpu destroys the notes.
I would make the trade just for the specs the of note is great especially with a custom ROM but eventually it will be outdated you will get more life with the nexus 4.

Well I took the trade and haven't looked back. This is a way ahead of the Note in terms of specs. The screen size was not a issue at all. Don't take this as dogging the note cause I'd pick one up any day, but as far as the market is concerned this would be in the top picks.
For all the comments about the build and it breaking, well to each their own. I've had zero issues with mine. Some people don't really use caution when handling already cheaply made devices. And it goes for any phone that it's possible to come with defects from the factory.
As far as LTE, the Nexus 4 is capable of. With the .33 radio and a custom rom it's no stranger. T-Mobile has only launched LTE in a few cities but it'll soon get around.

I just sold my note today. Waiting for my nexus 4 to ship. Hopefully it doesn't take long. The reason I choose the n4 over the note is that development over at the n4 forum is pretty busy.

Hey everyone, I just got the gs4 and I dont think I will be going back to the rezound. Some of you may know who I am, I made the auto unlocker batch script quite awhile back. I dont know how the gs4 community is but I really enjoyed the rezound community because you were friendly and very productive . Best wishes, Fenguepay.

Let me know how you like it I'm slow to move on since there is some awesome roms for this phone but I will probably be getting one soon waiting to hear what Motorola comes out with first. The htc one has also peaked my interest(just announced on Verizon) but htcs track record with updates is making me hesitant to pick it up. Enjoy your new phone
Thanks so far I still have it stock and it is still amazing. I have had no problems yet but I do miss my infected rom. I'll probably root it soon and tell how it is. I bought this at full price and its worth every penny.

And I have had a droid x before my rezound and I think samsung is by far more innovative. The performance and feature jump between all of the devices is greatest between my rezound and gs4. Also the gs4 is basically the android flagship and will get loads of development. And it looks like motorola is the most concerned with keeping their phones locked up then HTC then samsung so it looks like the gs4 will be the best for modding. Its your choice but I would look into it a lot first. i was going to get the one x but it has no expandable storage ane all of the air view stuff is really useful and cool.

fenguepay, see you on the other side. Picked up an S4 last Friday. Kept the Rezound and moved it to a different line to replace a D1. All I have done so far is root the S4. It is a sweet.
I'm really excited by all the new phones out there (my wife has the Galaxy Note II, I'm loving the look of the HTC One, etc), but I'm really hesitant to move on. The HTC Rezound community is one of the best I've seen. Maybe the fact that it was a nerdier phone has helped the community? The Nexus 7 community, for instance, seems insanely crowded with 100 ROMs and you can't tell what's going on.
I'm curious if people are buying Developer Edition or Google Edition phones as they leave the Rezound? Coming from a Motorola Droid 2 (with it's insane bootloader locking nonsense), I'm going to be very careful before choosing my next phone. I'm really excited about the Google Edition phones.
Good luck with your new phones! Maybe come back sometime and tell us how the GS4 community is.
I want to see how many are interested in this phone coming from a non-LG background. I come from a Samsung and HTC background.
Please vote everyone. Thanks.
Thinking about it, to replace my Galaxy Nexus. But since Ive never touched an LG smartphone Im not sure what (if?) the status of "third party" development would be like. Ive also never seen their overlays over Android so Im not sure what Ill be in for.
But, Snapdragon 800 makes up for some of that

In a way this poll should also reflect the status/extent of third party development. Thanks for your participation.
I'm picking up the LG. I've had all HTC 's and Samsung's. I'd have the Optimus G PRO for a couple months and loved it. It was a tremendous phone. IMO. I just hope the development community come through. I think with it being on all carriers it will.

Always been with samsung but their design has become stagnet for me. Ready for something new to play with. Just hope the G2 lives up to hype its been receiving. I will have mine on Tuesday.

Will be my first LG since the Dare - if that counts. I usually sport a Samsung or Apple but am currently running a Lumia 928. WP8 has a long ways to go! Looking forward to the G2!
I've had every HTC Android that Sprint carried, but switched to the Nexus 4 in February, so the G2 won't be my first LG device, but it will be my first LG device with LG software on it. I'm looking forward to this phone.
Just pre-ordered it, I have had my HTC Amaze 4G for a bit now and the LG G2 will be a huge leap, in terms of specs! lol This will be my first LG experience! Hope for the best!
I've used the Charge, GNex, Rezound, Maxx, DNA, S3, Note 2, Maxx HD, and the S4. This will be my first LG. I'm not too worried about the bootloader being locked down. The navigation keys are movable and most of the other things I'll want to change can be done just by being rooted,
first LG here since the LG env touch lol. my smartphones were all htc and samsung... eris, incredible, rezound, gnex, s3, dna, s4...so this is my first LG too.

Will be my first LG phone too. Had HTC, Motorola, a lot of Samsung devices but never LG. The only thing that worries me is the availability of custom ROMs and mods, but I guess that it's still to early to judge.

I dont think any LG phone has gotten so much "must have" responses, so I would be suprised if we dont get lots of roms. Especially if Nexus 5 will be based on it.

I concur.
Look who won the best android phone. LG G2. Unbelievable. Deserves the win though.

Now i am more confident about 3rd party ROM development. One more week to go.

Really lucky you bro.. I didn't realize they were shipping them right away. Good news.
Could you please share your experience about
Knock knock
Music player sound quality
Camera
Screen quality
If possible open a new thread for AT&T phones(just a suggestion). Just so all AT&T experiences fall in one place. Developers can figure out the missing features too.
I am going to switch from my note 2. I really love my note 2 but the size after a year is starting to get to me a bit. 5 inch screens look funny to me because of them being narrow and tall and I love the bigger screen in the small form factor. Great specs and great size. I will miss my note, but the lag, crappy gps, terrible amoled screen, and the slightly too big size are starting to turn me off.

So after using it a bit, do you feel like you want to pick the S4 back up or are you totally satisfied with the G2.
Personally I cant remember the last time I was so excited about a phone. I remember when I went to the S4 from the note 2 and I really just couldn't get excited about it at all. It didnt feel like an upgrade.
Heres hoping the G2 can win me over...

Nope dont feel the urge to pick up my S4, One, or Nexus.
Looks many people have/bought this now. So please vote. Thanks.
