It appears that at least one person's Sola is capable of transmitting an FM signal over short distances. I imagine many others can transmit as well as P, U & Go but I'm not sure yet.
If this works widely, these will be among the very few Android phones that can transmit FM, and the only widely available 2012 device I'm aware of. The only other is the T-Mobile/HTC Mytouch 4G and it's also unofficial.
I'll get an app posted soon that can be used to test. I don't have any of these phones, but a Sola owner is helping me a lot. I expect to get one soon, perhaps a U.
Probably most of you in the Sony world aren't aware of my Spirit FM app, since I've been unable to support most; see my sig.
I'm in the design phase for Spirit2 and it will use the ST-Ericsson proposed Android FM API slowly making it's way into AOSP over the last few years. Spirit2 info also in signature at bottom.
Happily for some Sony 2012 device owners, and more-so for cg2900 based device users, this is the API Sony uses in Radio3.apk. CG2900 devices may be the only ones with FM transmit at present though.
I understand the General section isn't for questions, but if mods are OK with it, I'd be interested in "discussing opinions" (which happens in General all the time) about which phone might be best for my development work on this FM API.
Feel free to ask any questions related to FM. I presume people can do that in an info thread. And yes, I've ensured there are no question marks in this post, LOL.
So these are the devices I'm considering, preceded with their best shipped prices in Canadian $ on Ebay:
$ 210 U ST25i
$ 230 Sola MT27i
$ 240 Go ST27i
$ 300 P LT22i
My take reading a bit here is that P is the "best", and as old as U, but U has more custom ROM development.
I'm presuming the carrier unlocked devices, mostly from Hong Kong or China, are also boot-loader unlocked. I think I should avoid local devices, such as from Rogers here in Canada, because they have locked boot-loaders.
I just need a good phone for testing both stock and custom ROMs not normal use. I should probably wait until transmit capability is tested on a few phones successfully.
Wau, Mike You are genius! Spirit fm on ste chipsets.. I have xperia p so i can test something

How to make what work ?
The Nov 26 test release linked in post 1 of my thread should actually work on stock or stock derived devices, but I think it won't run a second time without rebooting.
I'll try to put out a test release in the next day or 2 that will work better. I have it running now w/ RDS on CM10 on my OneX LTE, using the libfmradio.sony-iris.so library found on the Xperia T and similar. And hopefully my Sola tester will report good results tomorrow.
There are still some potentially difficult issues on AOSP type ROMs such as FreeXperia etc., mostly audio related. Audio issues are my most difficult task but stock ROMs make it easy. At least this FM chip is V4L and easy to enable on custom kernels, unlike Broadcom & TI combo chips that can be a pain with bluetooth issues.
BTW, these devices can support FM recording, on stock ROMs at least. I guess most Sony's can.
I looked a bit at the Snowball dev kits for cg2900 etc. None of them support FM, just like the TI Panda & virtually all dev boards. I have to imagine the regulatory issues are a pain.
...
I almost hate to say it, but I wouldn't be here in the Sony forums if the Android API used by Spirit2 wasn't hosted natively on these devices. Cg2900 devices especially seem to be the reference platform for this ST-Ericsson originated API.
I've intended to focus Spirit2 only on the most popular devices with custom ROMs; mostly Samsungs and HTCs. It's WAY too much work to support devices I don't own for testing, and to try to support more than a few dozen devices, of the thousand(s) out there.
And yet stock Sony's support this API, so it's difficult to say I won'
t officially support them. Anyway, consider this a warning that I might decide not to officially supported stock unrooted Sony's at least. My niche is FM on custom ROMs; and average "normal" smartphone users aren't really my target.
Hi,
Here is a little FM transmit test app. Audio is not working yet but you can get a signal and see RDS data on another radio
How it works :
Turn on a radio on 87.5 Mhz
Make sure a headset is connected to your device as it works like an antenna
Open the app and wait 5 seconds.
Click on the Freq 87500 button
Click on the RDS button
Now if you place your device next to your radio you should get a signal and see "Test RDS written". The signal strengh is not very good so it can be hard to have RDS.
To stop transmit just open the stock FM radio app.
Feedback is appreciated on every STE devices

You have to open and close the stock FM app after you use the app to reset everything.
Also make sure you wait 5 seconds after opening the app before pressing the freq button.

BTW, I think that not every FM radio (especially non-smartphone radios) can go down to 87.5. US radios in particular may only go down to 87.9 or 88.1.
For anyone reporting, please report your device, where you got the device, and ROM. Looking at freshbooy's posts I guess he also has a Sola but I don't want to search through everyone's posts or guess.
And for now at least, we're just trying to see if transmit works. It's not particularly usable with no audio, and we can't be sure if audio can even work. I think audio will work, when figured out, but we'll have to see.
So that's two reports from Sola that are positive; Can we get reports for U, P & Go ?
I'm asking "where you got the device" because of my concerns that transmit might be somehow disabled on variants from specific regions or carriers, so please specify the country &/or carrier you purchased from.
I think that only stock or stock derived ROMs have a chance of working with this current FM transmit app.
I can't stress enough how weak the signal may be, and to see RDS data requires a VERY clean signal. For testing it's probably best to loosely wrap the full length of the Xperia wired headset cable around the full length of the antenna of the FM receiver. We may be able to increase power; we tried but first attempt didn't succeed.
I would appreciate getting more feedback on FM transmit, particularly from Xperia U, P or anything ending in 'a' for North American 3g frequencies.
I have experimental transmit in Spirit, but haven't posted it anywhere yet.
I'm about to buy a U, and I guess it will be ST25a so I can use the 3G here with Bell Canada.
AFAICT, the 'a' models still have FM (receive at least, I think.)
I guess if the vendor allows returns, I can consider that if transmit doesn't work.
Are you the spirit fm developer then? If so, please make it work for our Xperia S Jellybean roms. A lot of people will love you forever if you do!

Yes. Are you to whom I just sent this email response ? :
Generally I say no to all Sony support questions.
But I've been adding support for some stock Sony devices, including the Xperia S. This is in preparation for Spirit2 using the AOSPish FM API. But it won't work on CM or other AOSP ROMs.

Dec. 4 test release of Spirit FM Free: http://d-h.st/HDa
Not tested on anything but HTC OneX LTE and Sony Xperia Sola MT27i.
Unofficial support for some stock Sony 2012 devices. Transmit on CG2900 devices: U ST25i, Sola MT27i, Go ST27i, P LT22i.
FreeXperia and other AOSP ROMs not supported, but S4/S4+ devices may work rooted with OneX LTE etc support.
CG2900 (libfmradio.cg2900.so): U ST25i, Sola MT27i, Go ST27i, P LT22i
Broadcom proprietary (libfmradio.brcm-prop_rx.so): S LT26i, Acro S, Ion (Not sure about Xperia Miro, Tipo, J)
Qualcomm WCN3660 (libfmradio.sony-iris.so): T LT30p, TX LT29i, V LT25i
FM Transmit test mode: Ensure wired headset is plugged in and wrapped in a "long way" along the length of a test receiver antenna. Set Debug-> FM Chip to "STE AFM TX" and restart Spirit. Can frequency be changed without restart ? There will likely be no audio.
Use seek down and seek up set different RDS data patterns.
FM Receive mode: either use automatic settings, or set Debug-> FM Chip to "STE AFM RX", set Audio-> Method to "Sony/STE/Android" and restart Spirit.

Don't run the stock FM app at the same time. It might work in the normal receive mode, & I'd like to hear if that works, but I don't know.
Bootloader lock doesn't matter. All that matters is that you have a stock or stock derived ROM.

Just started this thread for experimental FM support in my latest AVS-X release. This will be merged into my mainline kernel after cleanup and any other issues have been resolved.
*Source posted to GitHub
Credits go to the ff:
Kali- -> initial input of dmesg about Desire kernel path and later the bluetooth address property remapping
Lint_, imfloflo, bewA -> providing logs for analysis from Desire
20100715_1511:
- updated to latest FM source I posted in my GitHub which contains a slight modification which should improve stability
- only bug I found so far is that the radio app will show the wrong frequency BUT still output the correct one
*after trying out different combinations which previously crashed the FM radio, it hasn't crashed once...takes awhile to tune into a station but other than that it seems stable...also, the initial frequency DISPLAY (not output) to 0 bug seems to be not 0 but the frequency the first time the radio is launched...
20100715_0803:
- this should fix the timeout problems with the radio
- causes a weird frequency switch to lowest detected in r23...unsure if r19 is also affected (don't want to wipe so please test and post your results here)
- WiFi on r19 works (found my patch file)
20100713_1658:
- uncommented a line of code which prevents the IO bus from being configured for serial transfer in some cases
*should fix the intermittent problems everyone's been experiencing (including mine when I switched from my test FM branch to my official FM branch which I'm releasing here)
20100713_1011:
- updated to .35-rc5
- cleaned up FM code a bit
20100712_1348:
- reverted WiFi driver to work with Modaco Desire r19
20100712_0832:
- Initial release of .35-rc4 kernel with FM support
- needs a ROM with Desire FM radio (tested in Modaco r19 Desire ROM)
- wifi doesn't work with Desire ROM though

Hi,
My radio doesn't work on my p500.
The app opens well if i plug headphone, but
- can't change frequency ;
- can't make atomatic search ;
- can't hear or do anything at all.
I have tried with stock rom
now i have ClockWorkMod 3.1.0.0 ; OpenOptimus 1.172.1 ; franco kernel 18.1
I have searched in this forum but haven't found anyone with a similar problem.
What should i do ?
Reflash rom?
may be a new rom?
You mean a whole system rom ?
Like cyanogenmod or void#forever ?
I read here something about baseband. Does it have anything to do with my problem ?

No. Baseband radio has absolutely nothing in common with FM radio.
Are you sure though? In windows mobile, the rillphone and radio drivers managed the whole radio services (including the fm receiver). May it be true to android too?
Yes, once again, has NOTHING to do with baseband. Go search elsewhere.
As i tried 2 roms and it didn't change anything, i believe a third one won't resolve the problem.
Thanks you all for your replies.
One last question before i consider it as broken :
Is there another app than "Radio" to try the FM radio ?
Search Samsung Galaxy S radio widget APK file. This widget not require your FM to work in background. This might help you.
For the record...
I installed galaxy-s-radio-widget-1.0.1.apk (from google code)
and the widgets says "Device not compatible"
I've posted in general section u can check. That
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App
So i tried Spirit FM Radio (Mike Reid)
It works a bit better than the stock Radio app, i can at least tune frequencies and hear noise. But no frequency is different than another and nothing other than noise is heard.
Unless you are living in a cave in the middle of nowhere or your dog has chewed on the earphone cables - I would suggest to take the phone to LG service center.

We have some progress with RIL:
- entering and verification sim pin code
- mobile operator identification
- incoming call notification (with phone number )
- incoming call answering, but audio is not working at all during call, because need to implement sound and mic packets handling in RIL
- incoming call hangup (reject)
Still have no any progress with incoming sms

all updates are available on my github: https://github.com/Volk204/bada-modemril/commits/experimental

I look everyday to your github. And see that you work very hard everyday on this project! Thanks!
But please can you share your work so that we can test a little bit? I know that there are many bugs, for now. But I (We) only want to test what does go and what not.

rebellos is releasing the roms here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851818
so just wait till next release and so on. if you like (wave 1 user) use tigrouzens roms (sd card installed and more ram kernel, but your sd must be 2gb min, i recommend 4 or higher)
Im planning to use either LXP 4.2.2 or 4.3 .
I Just want to ask what scripts & tweaks i should use because games are a bit laggy . :crying:
U still planning on using those rom so how come u already knew games lag on them?
If you want no lags at all, stay with stock rom gingerbread 2.3.4
If you want to use a later version of android just try it and you'll see it's nearly stable with just a few lags/bugs. And I think you should first try the rom before saying it lags

Both LXP 4.2.2 or 4.3 are good for performance. If you really want lagless gaming try to run minimum background apps. Because many background apps eat a lot of ram.

Might be thread Hijacking -- but for people running this -- how pronounced are the wifi issues? I really don't want to cripple the wifi on my phone.

Try it yourself bro there are no issues in any custom ROMS about the wifi, i have used and trust me i have used a lot ofcustom ROMS i mean a lot.
No -- wasn't kidding, really wanted feedback from actual LegacyXperia rom users.

erm - no -- not kidding:
The project page points to:
legacyxperia.github.io
which further refers to:
the page github.com/LegacyXperia/local_manifests/wiki/CM10.2-kernel-3.4-status
The buggy - non-working list is:
Buggy:
Wifi (interruptions)
Wifi hotspot (interruptions)
Not working:
720p video recording is disabled (low frame rate & save ~22MB of RAM)
FM radio (audio is not working)
HDMI
For details, see the issues
I've used a lot of Rom's -- tried a few -- but haven't tried one which says the wifi is buggy. I was looking to see if someone had used it as their daily driver and had a glitch now and then -- or whether wifi works occasionally but mostly doesn't.
While I appreciate that a lot of people ask a lot of questions without trying anything themselves -- but that doesn't mean that every status or experience question is unwarranted, eh?

Wifi seems to vary with the router or similar. For me it got a lot better, almost ok.
Hotspot does not work well for me. Just stops working after a while.

Yeah, I'm running Zelly Cream 3.01 at the moment -- it doesn't have google now -- but voice search, navigation and dialing all seem to work pretty well. So I think I'll give this a few months and see how it goes. What I really want is an Xperia Ray w/ 2core cpu and ~ 4x the storage -- selling for about $200. I'd buy four. If gogole can sell a Nexus 4 for $200 --- sony should be able to make money on an updated Ray for $200.
Guys...
We are having way toooo many threads.
Everyone is opening thread for absolutely everything.
Please, don't do that....
Lets talk here...
If have question, you know something that could help others or just wanna say something about TS - please post that here.
We'll work together and help each other.
Omate, obviously, won't help us so we'll do that here...
Please....
Do not spamm this thread with whining post about Omate.
We all know who are they and what they did.
Lets talk and find a way to get best from device we have.
I will reserve two post under this and will add useful answers or something important...
Once again...
PLEASE, DO NOT OPEN NEW THREAD FOR EVERY QUESTION.
POST YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!
@MikeCHannon
Mate, is there any way to make this thread sticy?
It's impossible to find something on Omate thread and it would be great if we could keep this Q&A thread on top.
Tnx

Don't say thank you.
If you find something that helped you or you wanna say someone tnx, you have "tnx button" - use it.

TIP:
To save your TS buttons root your TS and install Xposed.
Install Gravity box and enable "double tap to sleep" (you have to do that on status bar.
Install app Shake, from market.
By using this app your TS will become real smartwatch.
This app will keep TS sensors on (even rhe screen is off) and you will be able to see clock face or any other app you set by simply movement.
To use button every time you want to see what's the time is ridiculous...

ADVICE:
NEVER LET YOUR DEVICE GO TO 0% BATTERY
If the battery drops below a certain level the watch will never charge it. The part of the firmware that is supposed to prevent this........doesn't work. The only option is to use an external charger but there may be a fire risk. // Posted by Loki //
Don't put your TS into water, even if you never opened it.
It'll die for sure.
Even rain could damage it, so be careful and take it of when you go to shower.
Apply security patch by Loki.
That's something you should do as soon as you receive your watch.
Your data won't be safe on your device until you do that...
I'll build Brightness level patch as soon as I get my watch.
Loki already made one but it's not working on latest firmware.
EVEN I OPENED THIS THREAD AND OFFERED MY HELP, SOME OF YOU ARE STILL OPENING NEW THREADS FOR ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.
I WON'T PROVIDE ANY HELP ON THAT THREADS.
Keep our yard clean - post here.!
I don't have anything from this thread, I just want organisation and clean Omate section on XDA.
So, if you need my help, read XDA rules and try to help....

I guess you have 1/8 2100 EU version?
BT tethering doesn't work on stock ROM.
You have to install TWRP (recovery) and flash Loki Unified or Dees BT ROM.
That ROM will add support for BT tethering and it's way more secured that stock one.
After flashing you could use Cyril companion app... SWapp
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
I got a developers Edition 2100HZ Truesmart from China. Is this the same as the EU version? I'm a bit concerned about installing Loki's patch because I've read I need to factor in the model type. What files should I be using?

If it's 1900 or 2100 you can't brick device with his Unified ROM.
You have to flash ROM and after flashing ROM you have to flash baseband (zip is provided on Loki thread)
Patching stock firmware could be tricky if you aren't sure which device you have.
So my advice would be - flash full ROM (Unified), that's still stick ROM only patched and better that stock by Omate...
And it's ten times safer in your case...

Is there a way I can determine what device I have? I got it from Expansys.jp. From the looks of things it is the same as the EU version, developers edition, but was set to Chinese by default.

- When first time pairing, on TS, not able to check "Internet Access" in Bluetooth Profile
- Go to Wireless & Networks -> More -> Tethering -> BT Tethering -> Check the box
- On main phone, do the same for BT tethering
- Connect the 2
- Once connected, reverse the BT Tethering option on the TS
So far working. Bloody hell
Hi, I'm trying to set up some mail-acconts on my omate. Everytime I want to got to scroll down in settings->user to account (Konten in german, don't know the exat wording for this point in english) the setting crashes.
Has anyone an idea, where the problem could be or a different way to get into the menu ?
Ist a 1/8 2100 Truesmart. I've installed lokifishs unified rom. Baseband: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V4, 2013/08/14 18:16, Kernel 3.4.5, Omate_Truesmart_EnSec 20140427_V2.0
Thanks
hi there
as per loki's thread, if you want to set up the email, don't do it via settings, instead, use the app itself
eg open Mail -> add account
so, my Omate arrived (yay!) and first thing I did, is to flash loki's Unified. Got the 1/8 2100 Dev Edition.
It works quite well so far, but I have a problem with the Ostore. It doesn't show the info, whats the app all about. It is loading when I click on an app, but at a certain point that loading circle symbol just stops and that's it then. Installing is no problem though...
And one question just for curiosity: does it matter if i install an app from the ostore or from play? is there a difference?
cheers!

Hi, thanks for the answer. And now the stupid question . Where do i find "add account" in the mail-app? Or how can I open the settings? With my normal phone (note 2) I can press the phone-menu-button on the left button while using the mail-app. Is there a equivalent on the omate?
if you're looking for the menu gesture, swipe from the left side of the screen (opposite of swiping from the right as the "Back" button)

Play store is more current in most cases. You'll be better off getting it from there than the Ostore which is mostly broken

Ostore is something I don't need and I really suggest you to use play store.
Google won't approve
anything and you can be sure there's no malware or spyware there...

It should be in email app/settings.
Try to open few drawers and you'll find it.
On my Z1 you have slide apptray frim left and scroll down to see "add acc".
If course on other device could be different.
(Don't have TS so ready can't tell but it must be in settings)
Also, if you have BT keyboard, pair it with TS and set everything up.
It's easier then with on screen keyboard.
BTW, there's no stupid questions, only stupid answers

So you don't have 2100MHz now? Is it not as simple as a different baseband (as split up in Loki's ROM)?

No, it's not...
I really don't recommend cross flashing - that's something that could brick your device.
If we all have same firmware that it would be easy to switch from 1900 to 2100 flashing only another baseband but almost every batch have its own firmware and ut could be very dangerous to flash something that's not built for your device...
But really @jeremy.chan
Are you on Dees or Loki now?
You are using SWapp companion by Cyril?

Really don't know...
I know SWapp is working OK and Loki Unified ROM is something you must have on device...
Not only because it's good but because there's no alternative
