Has anyone else noticed a red light near the speaker (the one you put up to your ear) on the left side above the (proximity?) sensor? I have had my rezound just over 2 months and noticed it for the third time today and am courious what it is.

yep it's like an RF signal..that's the proximity sensor
Yeah it is the proximity sensor. It uses IR... sometimes when it is on full power you can see it is dim lit areas.
Also has the lught sensor in it for auto screen brightness..
Oh ok, makes sense. I was confused because I only got to see it a few times. Thanks guys.

how bright are your capacitive buttons? Mine seem a lot dimmer compared to my skyrocket I had. also I noticed my middle home button is a little dimmer compared to the other 3. should be an issue or leave it alone? Other than that it works perfect

Mine are much brighter and more evenly lit than my Captivate, sooo .
i believe your brightness/power saving options also affect the capacitive brightness... i would do a test at night and adjust your brightness and see!
My first phone I bought they are bright! My second one, a little dim oh well.
I have my capacitive buttons only light up in the dark. No need in well lit scenarios for them to be lit.
The white note capacitive backlighting kind of bleeds through the surrounding area so that's kind of ugly. Oh well I can live.

Mine seem just as bright on my white note as they were on my white skyrocket.
my note has a bit of a dim home. I went to the store to exchange it but they said that the demo had the same problem and a couple other white phones so I guess its common

Yeah that bleed is lame, it's about the only thing I don't like about the phone. I just turned the buttons off. After a few days of playing with it I know where they're at.
The SkyRocket lights up more of a bluish white. While my note lights up white/tan color, its bright but i liked the illuminated color of the SkyRocket. It reminds me of LED shades.
-On another NOTE, Samsung goes 5.3"
Wish mine was as bright a my Skyrocket.

I too went back to the store. I looked at theit demo as well, and the home button was the same as mine. I guess some are better than others. They just better last. And not go out after my 30 days are up.

Hey I just want to ask what this little red light that turns on when the screen is on, it's the one beside the earpiece on the right side.
This is on my mom's phone so I won't know what this is, hence the question

Touchwiz uses the proximity sensor doesn't it? AOSP roms do not. It doesn't light up on my S3 with an AOSP rom.
Alright thanks for answering my questions. Lol

What's funny is I have the exact opposite situation, I have all motion options disabled but occasionally see it, I can't remember when I see it and under what conditions so I'll post back when I have more useful info. It looks like an infrared light so I'm wondering if it might be able to take commands from another device.
Here are links to 2 other forums speaking about this issue:

Guys the question has already been answered in the 2nd post. Its the proximity sensor and it can light up on different occasions, such as during calls and possibly in text messages etc if you have direct call enabled.

We all read it thanks for pointing it out. We are talking about it's lighting up or not lighting up in what conditions.... NOT what it's supposed to do, do read the comments above urs.
He was referring th lordazoroth who believed it to be a infrared emitter/receiver.

Ok. Let me make it a bit clearer for you. When your in a dark environment, dial a number and it will turn on. If direct dial is also on, when you put it near your head, as it starts to dial remove it and you will also see it lit. Nothing more nothing less as far as I know. The reason most people don't notice it is because the light is very feint and on most occassions can't be seen.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Alright I have more information, I do not have direct calling enabled so when I'm texting the light does not turn on. However when I'm in the middle of a call, I'll see the little red dot light up faintly and the screen will turn off when my head gets close to it. Interestingly enough, there is a cone of detection coming from the light (or directly next to the light). When I move my finger within the cone of detection, projecting from the light, the screen will turn off. When my hand or head is close to the phone without blocking this cone of detection, the phones screen will not shut off. I would assume that due to how dark my testing conditions were (including the screen being nearly pitch black), this would appear to be an infrared detection system. Therefore it should serve any purposes in which proximity detection is needed, including direct calling and automatic screen control. If a program were written, I'm guessing this infrared sensor could be used for any number of things, including remote control and even data transfer.
Interestingly, my Nexus S 4g seems to have a very different detection system, there is no tiny red light nor is there a cone of detection projecting from the front. Instead when anything sizable comes near the top of the device (from the front, top, and/or back) the screen shuts off during a call, which indicates some type of field detection. I'm guessing these two devices have different proximity detection systems either for power conservation, cost of manufacture, or both.
Its proximity sensor. . . Don't worry its not causing any harm. and near to this is RGB sensor.

Thanks, i was thinking it would be easily visible but it's really faint light and visible under dark conditions only. My guess is it might be infrared light for the sensor. I used to have night vision option in video camera and could see bright light coming out of remote controls dont' know where i placed my old handy cam but if someone has it they can test it out and see if it emits IR light as well.
When I have a Google Now notification, which is almost all the time, the notification lights blink. And since the lights only come with three colors, and it seems almost all notifications use the SAME color, I never know if it's flashing because my battery is low, if I have an email, text, or a Google Now notification, missed call, voicemail, etc!
If only Lightflow worked on the stock DNA, then I could at least change colors for some of these things. So irritating.

I have to agree, especially because the light is so dim, I never notice it unless I'm staring right at it.
agreed. i also think that the same led powers both lights. I could be wrong, but they are useless for me as well
Personally I LIKE the fact that they are useless. I hate annoying blinking lights.
They do shine fine in the dark I guess.

Seconded. I think they're perfectly subtle. I hate devices with super bright LEDs that light up the whole room when they flash.

yeah, the s3 and that stupid blue led. and light flow didn't even work on the s3 to change it
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
The point isn't whether you prefer notification lights or not but that HTC chose to implement them and therefore it is reasonable to expect them to serve their purpose adequately, which they don't. They truly are almost useless being as dim and color-unchangeable as they are (not to mention how far recessed into the speaker grill the front light is).
Sent from my SCH-I605
They could've been a tad bigger imho... I rarely even notice it flashing until I actually pick the phone up and look at it... And at that point I mine as well turn the display on to check. Lol

Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
ummm yeah.... the notification light isn't exactly HTC's strongest feature.
I like how they tried to implement them, I like them on both sides and think it could be very well done. With that said they are very dim and pretty weak so they aren't that useful.
I personally find it rather useful for certain things. I often have my phone face down (which I feel is the position it was designed to sit in) and the rear notification light has been really helpful this far.

instead of blinking, some notifications would stay a solid color even after making it set to blink. some colors would show up as other colors. horribly, awful battery drain.
lightflow was great on the gnex and terrible on the s3.
Wait, I was unaware the notification led was 3 colors? What are these colors? I'm assuming green, orange, and...?
I'm getting the phone tomorrow though

I guess my main problem is the fact that the led comes on even for Google Now notifications, and I have those on all the time. I can somewhat live with the limited colors, but because the light comes on for Google Now (and like I said, I always have those on), I never know if I have any other notifications because the light is always blinking.

Well that was anti-climactic.
Anyone know what the color options are for the LED (s)? I'm messing around with light flow without much success.
It seems the back one only does orange and the front us yellow green or red?
Thanks in advance

I recall reading somewhere light flow not working on droid DNA right now, they need to update.

They should both be able to do green, orange, and yellow.
Both of them have a green led and a orange led, and if they are both on it makes yellow.

it works, kinda.... Really what I use lightflow for is not so much the actual light, although it was nice with my gnex, its more so for the repeating notifications with custom ringtones/sounds for different contacts. I am able to get that by just turning off every led notification and just use the sound and vibration. When ever I tried to use the lights I just had problems, so I gave up on them, besides, the front LED is maybe the worst I have ever seen, and I hardly ever see the back as I lay my phone down with the screen up. So yes, lightflow works, just not 100% as its name would suggest.
Yeah in really hoping it ends up having a little more control over the front LED. I relied on the difference between white/red/pink for text/call/whatsapp on my Nexus and was really hoping for the ability to do that on this phone.
At this point I just wanna get the light to stay solid rather than blinking...

Yeah that's cool as long as I have three different colors I'm satisfied.
I got everything working now my only issue is the front LED blinks and the rear is solid when I want both to be solid.
