Who else thinks the notification lights on the DNA are absolutely useless...? - HTC Droid DNA

When I have a Google Now notification, which is almost all the time, the notification lights blink. And since the lights only come with three colors, and it seems almost all notifications use the SAME color, I never know if it's flashing because my battery is low, if I have an email, text, or a Google Now notification, missed call, voicemail, etc!
If only Lightflow worked on the stock DNA, then I could at least change colors for some of these things. So irritating.

I have to agree, especially because the light is so dim, I never notice it unless I'm staring right at it.

agreed. i also think that the same led powers both lights. I could be wrong, but they are useless for me as well

Personally I LIKE the fact that they are useless. I hate annoying blinking lights.
They do shine fine in the dark I guess.

Seconded. I think they're perfectly subtle. I hate devices with super bright LEDs that light up the whole room when they flash.

yeah, the s3 and that stupid blue led. and light flow didn't even work on the s3 to change it
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

The point isn't whether you prefer notification lights or not but that HTC chose to implement them and therefore it is reasonable to expect them to serve their purpose adequately, which they don't. They truly are almost useless being as dim and color-unchangeable as they are (not to mention how far recessed into the speaker grill the front light is).
Sent from my SCH-I605

They could've been a tad bigger imho... I rarely even notice it flashing until I actually pick the phone up and look at it... And at that point I mine as well turn the display on to check. Lol

Loll are we ever going to be able to change the colors of them?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app

ummm yeah.... the notification light isn't exactly HTC's strongest feature.

I like how they tried to implement them, I like them on both sides and think it could be very well done. With that said they are very dim and pretty weak so they aren't that useful.

I personally find it rather useful for certain things. I often have my phone face down (which I feel is the position it was designed to sit in) and the rear notification light has been really helpful this far.

instead of blinking, some notifications would stay a solid color even after making it set to blink. some colors would show up as other colors. horribly, awful battery drain.
lightflow was great on the gnex and terrible on the s3.

Wait, I was unaware the notification led was 3 colors? What are these colors? I'm assuming green, orange, and...?
I'm getting the phone tomorrow though

Green, Orange and Dark Orange
Sent from my Droid DNA using Tapatalk 2!

I guess my main problem is the fact that the led comes on even for Google Now notifications, and I have those on all the time. I can somewhat live with the limited colors, but because the light comes on for Google Now (and like I said, I always have those on), I never know if I have any other notifications because the light is always blinking.

i would love a s3 sized lamp on the s3. I can see if i had a message from a mile away. particularly useful when im at the gym and my phone is on another bench. I miss that

They will probably stick with the green/amber just like ALL the other HTC phones have had. Id rather HTC put a camera with a better ccd/cmos sensor in than a multi-colored led.
Id rather then do both and also up the damn battery to 2 days use lol

I agree.....they can and should improve the camera.....and I'd take a thicker heavier phone in order to have at least a 2000mah-2200mah battery in there.....and my old tilt aka touch pro had all types off led colors on that bad boy!!!

There's no reason they could't spend an extra .001 cents per phone and put in a multicolored LED. Plenty of other HTC phones have had them too FYI.
I've had red, green, amber and blue on my current og evo. I dont see y we won't at least have the current colors we have.

Has it been confirmed to have one? The Nexus S i'm using now doesn't have one which I think is ridiculous!
But yea, multi-colored would be awesome. The Droid had one and it was cool to be able to customize it based off of what notification it was.

Mine never did. Actually after an update a while ago it Jo longer gave me colors. Just green, amber, and red because those are the only colors the led supports.
I like the nice green wimax led across from the main led. But the only time I've seen it work on messages is on the MUIU ROM.

Now I'm pissed!! You mean to tell me the evo does have blue !! Can anyone else confirm this? What hardware rev. has this? 002? 003?
And which led is it? the left one or the right(wimax) one?
Some ppl have found a way to mix yellow and green to get a blueish/purpleish color. But that's not the same as a blue led !!
I take back what I last said, I currently have the latest version of handcent and it only offers the green or amber light for text. So I have no clue about a blue one. I hope the E3D has one. I mean, isn't it suppose to for Bluetooth so you know its connected lol??????
HTC EVO = my best friend
Its the notification led. Sorry, I don't remember what revision it was... It was very much blue, and not a mix. It surprised me a lot the first time... facebook used it.
yeah I agree, It would be cool to have a 256 color led, Id have one color be sms, one for missed call, one for voicemail, and random color strobe for incoming call.
That would be pretty sick but ill just be happy with a blue light! And a back cover with a blue camera ring instead of red

there is some bleeding yes but that would have to be modified by whoever will make custom kernels
I notice this too, I think its just because of the similar color of led and face color. I'm sure its not as noticeable on the carbon blue. Slight side effect of such a great color.

If you think that's bad you should see the white skyrocket. Now that was bright. Gnote is no where near as bright as the skyrocket. I think the skyrocket uses some kind of LED lighting which if you can get pass how bright it is, it looks a lot better.

or it can also be the fact that on my incredible i had cm7 and had torch which pushed the leds to their limit and made them really hot but i just loved that flashlight helped out when i needed to look for something in the dark
again, as a.mcdear pointed out - this is a 100% hardware capability thing. while some software might not set the same brightness levels in settings, the limits are the limits of the hardware.

Sure, and you can hook them up to a car battery and they will explode, but that does not mean that another app can miraculously cause the hardware to deliver more power to the Flash LEDs. The fact is that the torch setting on any app is probably already using the maximum brightness that the hardware is capable of.
Snowman is not making things up. The nexus torch on the Incredible would overpower both LEDs at once for a crazy bright light. When I would run non-CM7 ROMs on my Incredible, I always looked for an alternative app that did the same thing, but never could. Most could only run one of the two LEDs. If they could light both at once, they were not overpowered.

Yeah the torch app on the incredible was so bright that every time you turn it on it had a warning popup saying not to leave it on long because it would melt **** lol
No offense, but if having a bright flashlight is really this important to you, why not just get an actual flashlight?
Otherwise, if you're in a pinch and just need a quick light, the rezound is definitely bright enough for illuminating a dark area (like putting your keys in the car door in an unlit parking lot)
I still have my incredible (gf uses it actually) so I know how bright that app is.
What I was saying is that the rezound is clearly capable of the same bright flashlight as the incredible. The incredible one turns on the leds as if to flash while taking a picture but keeps the lights on. I see no reason why the rezound could not do the same. Now do I know how to get that working at the moment - no. But I'm interested enough to do some research and I'll post what I find.

It's not possible, all we have are two colours, orange and green. Any other colours? We have yet to see them, maybe they need to be enabled at a kernel level, but we need source to find out.
It's quite possible(and is the case, in my opinion) that it is simply a dual-color LED, and that changing the color would require you disassembling the phone and changing the physical LED on the board.
Ohhhh I see. Well, only time will tell lmao. I'm too scared to take apart this phone xD

it works, kinda.... Really what I use lightflow for is not so much the actual light, although it was nice with my gnex, its more so for the repeating notifications with custom ringtones/sounds for different contacts. I am able to get that by just turning off every led notification and just use the sound and vibration. When ever I tried to use the lights I just had problems, so I gave up on them, besides, the front LED is maybe the worst I have ever seen, and I hardly ever see the back as I lay my phone down with the screen up. So yes, lightflow works, just not 100% as its name would suggest.
Yeah in really hoping it ends up having a little more control over the front LED. I relied on the difference between white/red/pink for text/call/whatsapp on my Nexus and was really hoping for the ability to do that on this phone.
At this point I just wanna get the light to stay solid rather than blinking...
