couple of questions about my Xperia P - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi all,
This forum does not look so active as the one i came from (Xperia X10) so i'm forced to open this thread in hopes that more people will see it and be able to help me...
So the situation is very simple:
1. I am on newest ICS 6.1.1.B.1.54 - which apparently can not be rooted yet
2. My bootloader is locked and can not be unlocked (it says bootloader unlockable: NO (and i can not continue the process))
If there are no solutions currently for my situation then i would just like to ask:
3. Is there some way that i can get some options when i open the notification bar? like wifi/screen rotation etc. It is what i miss the most on this stock ICS rom.
MY IDEA for a solution to:
1. is it safe/possible to use flashtool and flash for example LT22i - 6.1.B.0.544 -Central Europe - ICS? Then root and install CWM and then custom rom for locked BL
2. i have no idea but apparently the official repair shop can change the NO to YES - if so, can i do it somehow myself?
3. no idea...
Any comment would be appreciated, even if nothing can be done, please someone who has knowledge about this...help

use notification toggles or powerful control to get toggles in notification bar....
flashtool is a very stable software for nxt series and previous xperias.. used it several times on my xu...
I think u can root ur .54 firmware through binary's rooting method....have u tried it yet???
Sent from my Xperia U using Tapatalk 2

thanks for the tip about notifications
flashtool i have used on X10 and found it very good, but i was not sure if it is OK to use it now on the XP while my BL is locked and i have no root, i don't want to create more problems for myself than i already have
i have tried binary's method and it says that it is successful but it does not work, there is a discussion about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020539&page=1

o o .... I think u should wait a bit... there are several developers for xperia p who will find a way out...flashtool is safe for locked bootloaders as I and several others used it..

you can install older ICS, root and use a custom rom while you wait a fix to the new ICS :]
i don't think it will take too long for a fix ^^

1. Yes and yes. That's what I did. Now my Xperia P is rooted with CWM.
Rooting Method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020895
2. Not realy sure, mine was bootloader unlockable from the start. But I decided to keep it locked.
3. You mean like this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015118
I flashed this and is working quite well. No problems so far.
Flashing is also safe with locked bootloader. I've been flashing like crazy since I rooted my phone 4 days ago.
Just do backups and follow instructions carefully.

[Q] Xperia Mini Pro Questions

Hello
Just purchased a SK17i Xperia Mini Pro Black Version that is locked to 02 (UK network). I am obvously new to all this stuff but do have a basic understanding but here are some questions:
1) I am thinking of waiting until Android 4.0 is Officially released by SE to update my phone (btw, anyone know when the update is coming). Was wondering when I update will I still be able to root my phone?
2) When I root (if I can) I want to install Set CPU to overclock my phone. However I have heard this drains batteries? Is this true and if so how can I make my phone faster?
3) I need to unlock my phone. Can this be done for free after rooting? If not, can someone link me to the cheapest place I can get this unlocked from?
Thanks in advance to anyone that answers
Hey dude,welcome to XMP family.
1)According to Xperia Blog,XMP will get the ICS update in the end of May or early June, after the first wave for arcS,neoV and ray.I don't know whether we can root it on official ICS or not,but I think to get a rooted phone is easy once you unlock the bootloader, and besides, there are so many developers here.
2)When it comes to overclocking, apparently it would cause battery drain faster. But with my experience,I hardly feel its difference on SE stock Rom.As for custom rom like FXP's,which I has used for a while,it drains about 2~3% per hour while idle(drop speed is two times than stock.)
3)Certainly you can unlock your phone for free, see this thread & tutorial. But it should be noticed that once you unlock it then you may invalidate your warranty.
Mine is on FXP CM9(ICS) and it's kind of laggy, but I can't tell it's because of the ICS rom or existed bugs.As SE said,we may not have the same experience like Gingerbread if we update to ICS.

Hello mate, thanks for the great post
I think I will leave stock ROM once updated actually, seems to be running fine atm as it is.
I think I will still update to the official ICS when it comes out as does look worth it.
Just about no. 3) I think your talking about after rooting, the process to get custom ROMs by unlocking the bootloader? I was talking about the network? lol
Unless I'm mistaken?
Thanks again

There is no way to get your phone unlocked from a network for free but WontanServer offers an unlocking for $15. You can try that out. Just type WontanServer in Google and click the 1st link. WontanServer is legit and won't steal your money
Though as a warning you might not be able to update to ICS as it also might unlock your bootloader. Just double check, as I am not 100% sure. Also it will void your warranty

Thanks alot, will take a look at that website
What do you mean by updating to ICS will unlock my bootloader? Isn't that a good thing? Don't mind about warranty, can have that sorted out but don't understand the bold line mate
Thanks
good thing in the sense? If you don't bother about warranty then you can try custom ROM ics.but the problem is some bugs are not fixed by developers they will take time.main bug is camera not working..i am using ics so just check k? Good luck

He meant that the Wotanserver network-unlock method might unlock your bootloader (which it does). This bootloader unlock, whilst giving you access to custom ROMs etc, might not behave with official SONY updates (such as ICS) - I'd link you for proof but I'm not allowed to due to my low post count .
Also, Google 'Omnius Unlock'. They will unlock your phone for free over the next few days (Easter promotion). I'm not sure how reputable those guys are though so you'll want to check.
Thanks for that Omnius Lock thing, looks great and will check it out
So, if I unlock it I may be unable to upgrade to 4.0? That is a bit stupid to say the least? Anyone on an Xperia that was unlocked then ugraded to 4.0? Did it become locked again?

If your phone's bootloader is unlocked you can not recieve any official update through Sony as it will brick your phone but you can install a ICS ROM.

Well I'm not sure about 'stupid', you'll have to weigh it up. If you look in the development section, there's already a very useable version of ICS (look for MiniCMSanwich), which is potentially better than Sony's bloatware-infused and themed version (not to mention probably unrootable) due in a couple of months.
I think it's mainly FOTA bricks that happen (over-the air updating from Sony), and some bootloader unlocks allow for this by just patching the bootloader to make it seem unlocked (any SETool unlock will do this). So there are a number of options.
Be careful also of some bootloader methods stripping the DRM keys, these are used by Sony services like TrackID, which will cease to work (permanently) following a bootloader unlock.
Edit: There's a distinct difference between a network unlock and a bootloader unlock, the former will nearly always also execute the latter, but the latter can be done by itself (obviously only on unbranded phones). The method of getting a custom ROM is basically network unlock > bootloader unlock > root > install custom kernel > install custom ROM. Root can be done before the unlocks, I believe.
I'm new to all this too, only trying to explain because I know how much of a total pain it was to work it all out .

He is talking about network lock.
Network lock stays away, updating probably won't lock it again, but no one has tried and we do not have any sure information

Ah, right. Makes everything at lot clearer thanks
So if I do unlock through the Wotanserver place, my bootloader will be unlocked but I wouldn't be able to get official ICS, but a just as good if not better copy? Is the ROM fully stable as in does everything function fine? I have heard of an ICS ROM which stopped HD recording on Xperias. Does this have any such problem?

Also, just a quick question to add: Do I have to go to SE to get my boot loader unlocked? Or will it automatically unlock with Flashtool when I flash the Kernel?
Thanks

Thanks for that, do you have a link for me which I can use?
And just generally, can I add that this is the way to get MiniCMSanwich ROM on my XMP:
Root (zerg's software) (not needed but useful so might as well do it then)
Unlock Bootloader (from SE's website or the link which hopefully the above poster/someone else gives me)
Kernel Installation (Flashtool)
Finally, flash the ROM and Gapps using Clockwork Mod Recovery
Thanks

It is the same unlock method, just everything brought to one place by that app maker.
Rooting your phone before custom ROM installation is not needed, because old ROM(stock) gets deleted anyway and custom ROMs include root already.

[Tutorial] Root mini pro SK17i fw4.0.2.A.0.62

Here my step to root my mini pro SK17i, boot loader still same as when it buy..
When I bought it the phone is 2.3.4/4.0.2.A.0.62 and try out many ways from XDA. Yes it rooted but when I update firmware from OTA or pc... my phone back to early state that root are gone...
So I tried out many ways and found this one, try over 3 times to make sure and decide to post this guide.
A.prepare...
1.flashtool 0.7 from this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351309
2.fw 4.0.2.A.0.58 .ftf you can find from xda or place..(its not hard to find)
3.root v1.5 without unlock boot loader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346198
...
step 1.
open flashtool then select flash ==> flash mode ==> select fw 4.0.2.A.0.58..
then check only exclude TA / FOTA / Baseband (only 3 choices) the others must not check..
then select [ok] to continue and wait for connect the SK17i
step 2.
Push your phone in to flash mode by....Turn off your phone..
Then press and hold [volume down] while you plug PC-USB, if you never install driver of flash mode the PC will install it...[please choose continue(ignore) to install, even no matter what happen]
step 3.
waiting around 5-6 minutes... untill all message said all finished..==> then disconnect the phone..
step 4.
turn on your phone..==> then set display to maximum timeout / and set develop USB debug...
step 5.
open (root v1.5) to root the phone
after phone restart....
Your phone SK17i are rooted ready and fw is 4.0.2.A.0.58..
then Backup every things while you are root user...
step 6.
OTA to 4.0.2.A.0.62 back by wifi only, don't choose other else..
Done...enjoy.

Yes, it is.
To OP: OTA update can be done over 3G also, it is not a requirement to use WiFi.

He went back to a previous firmware, because .62 is unrootable and so the devices isn't like you have bought it, because the .ftf you flash isn't the same like the one on phone before
that kind of solution excludes AZERTY HW keyborad of the SK17i ? it seems that every custom rom every is design for US HW keyboard but i dont want to lose my keyconfig anymore by switching firmware,
Any solution for french people ? plz

Search for a french firmware ftf, maybe in development forum you could find one
Or you copy the keyprint.xml from your current rom, save it on your pc, flash a generic firmware and push the file back :good:

Sorry for bothering.
I was reading many texts on this forum and all over the net, and because I`m a newbie I`m still not sure if I`m right about this.
So this 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware is not rootable unless I downgrade right ? I have an xperia ray if that makes any difference.
So the only solution for me to root the phone is to flash the phone with an older version of gingerbread right ?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you've got it. You have to downgrade to 4.0.2.A.0.42 or .58 to root

I guess there's no .68 firmware. Only .58/.62/.69/
I would update; with an ota update (via wifi) you shouldn't loose root. To be on the safe side, download the local-prop script (how to root .431), run it on your current firmware, update, see if you have root, if not run push-root-files

[Q][Noob] Xperia U ICS help

Hi guys, As you all know ICS is being released, Apparently my SI no. hasn't got the update yet, I really am losing my patience and want to manually update to ICS using the French ST25i firmware.
Now, coming to my question. I want to manually Update my XU ST25i GB to ICS. I want to know how it is to be done, IN A NOOB FRIENDLY WAY .
A step by step method would really help guys. I'm aware that if I update this way, It technically isn't ROOTING. ( Right?? ) (I havent unlocked my Bootloader and I prefer to keep it that way coz of future updates from Sony) . And one more thing, If I do this, Will I be able to still get official updates from Sony? ( i.e From SUS or PCC ).
Please help a fellow member! :highfive:

1 ->i flashed the Australian one....pretty smooth....haven't heard any complains from the ones with french firmware either..i don't think any of them should be a problem!
2-> yes you will be..provided u don't edit the build.prop too much
and yes u need to install the flashtool drivers as well.....sorry i missed that!

Can not root xperia U

Okay, so i have been attempting to root my xperia u since about december, i cannot root it, ive tried one click root for xperia u, it said it worked but as soon as i tried to install a rom with rom manager it said no root access, i have tried a few other 'one click apps' they all say they work yet i can't do anything as i could on root, i have had a rooted galaxy ace, so i can if its rooted or not (well i think so)
I do not have unlocked bootloader, i dont know how to unlock it
It would be well appreciated if someone could tell me how to root and or unlock bootloader, or just tell me and alternate way to install the galaxy s3 jb rom
Thanks in advance

Cheers, ill try that
I can't do that, reason being is that when i type in the number to see if bootloader is unlockable it says no, is there any other way that could unlock it, or just install the rom?
sorry to hijack the thread - im a little way ahead - bootloader unlock - but cant get a root hack to work....i did follow one that said to download a .js file - but in the readme it says to run a "runme.bat" file which doesnt exist....so, im stuck as well - mines a 2011 version with mtp - i did try the flashtool but it looks like that only works with pre mtp devices....
Just to add - ive found the thread for rooting. download the file with the runme.bat in there. Ran that as admin and it all gives the appearance of working, reboots the phone - command prompt says everything has worked but theres no superuser icon installed so i guess it hasnt.

There is alot of threads! It's really easy and it can work for locked downloader! There is a sticky on the forum for it where you can get the firmware needed.
Just download the ICS. B.54 ftf
And the C.1.0 Ftf once flashed the B.54
Flash the C.0.1 and root the reflash the B.54 but only the firmware and don't do the wipes! There is a more explaind method on the sticky

so i guess there is no way to root my phone , only to wait until a new method will be released to root it without unlocking the bootloader?

I have the same build, and i can't update it. It says that i have the latest available update.
Any thoughts on that?
Thanks

Updates are region and/or provider dependant.
You can take your chances and flash generic world formware.

I want to do it so i can root my phone, but since I've never done this, I'm a bit insecure and hesitant.
From the research I've done rooting my Xperia P is preferred to be done with the latest firmware which I don't have.
What would you suggest I do? I am completely new to this.
Thanks

Like before you do anything with your phone, take a full backup with PC Companion, and backup other data it doesn't manually.
Then you will need to download and install flashtool, install the drivers for Xperia P, flash mode, and fastboot mode with the drivers installer from drivers directory under flashtool directory.
Find and download generic 6.2.A.1.100 firmware file and flash it.
Exclude TA when you flash.
I have my firmware uploaded here, it's a two part 7-Zip, archive.
You may look for others that are more sutable for your region.
To root 6.2.A.1.100 use DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
My phone is acting really crazy and I can't do a backup with PC Companion, nor with the phone app for backup, but I don't care anymore.
I'll try everything you suggested and let you know if it worked.
Thanks a lot, you have been more than helpful. I really appreciate it.
