hi guys,i have a simple question, afte searching of xda,i couldn't get a proper answer so i wish to start a topic.
i have blobs folder in CWM folder,it took about 1 Gig of space.if i delete this folder, does it make or damage the CWM?or the backups will be corrupt?kindly answer.thanks.
I believe they are part of a new CWM incremental backup method and should not be deleted. I did my first backup under that method today and you will notice if you look that the old locations of the backup is less then 20 mb.

All that a 'Son/son's of a human' can do is ask why u messed up with that blob folder in the first place.
if u really see that its aint needed for u any more, then its quite obvious that u arnt into restoring the old backup
In recovery there is an option to free unused backup data, which will detect back up data that isn't needed for old backups anymore. Personally though, I just changed the default backup type back to tar.

hello everyone I have a question, when I made my nandroid backup of my stock rom and the one i'm using now before applying a patch and one after the patch but made the first 2 by mistake to the internal memory of the phone now I want to move them to my PC but i can't find them with root browser(or explorer ) I can see them in CWM when I go in to recovery but I'm not sure were there getting store also being that I made the backups so close together the time stamps on them are really similar and I can't tell which one is the stock and the backup of the new rom is there a way to find out which one is the stock one without having to do a restore
thank you in advances for the help

Your nandroid backups should be located under... clockworkmod/backup/"YYYY-MM-DD.HH.MM.SS"
Your backup(s) should be in a folder with the format above as in date and time.

If there are multipe folders under "backups" with different time and dates then those will be all the nandroid backups you have made so far with the most recent one being the one with the newest date and time while the old backups are the ones with the older dates. What do you plan on doing? are you trying to restore to stock 2.1?

Not exactly sure if your phones nandroids will work with your gf's phone. I recommend you create a seperate nandroid on her device just to be safe. Thats if that phone is rooted otherwise disregard what i have said.

Well if her phone is not rooted there is no way to create or restore the nandroid backup since you do not have CWM installed. Unless you know of some other way to create and restore the backups.

Oh i see now. I Forgot about that. Excellent point but technically you are rooted. That update.zip you flashed in stock recovery (reinstall packages) edited some of the system files on your phone in the process and gave you superuser rights or "root" access. So you are rooted just so you know.

that good to know but the funny part is that it maybe root it but does not show on the phone no ninja or paired android. Btw will superoneclick(i know other ways to get root but that is by far the fastest and I just one to get that part done quick so I can move to backup and flash ) work on 2.2... I told her not to upgrade but she did not lisen to me :-(
I have a Wind Amaze with Ruby installed. S-Off, unlocked, the whole shabang. I have been trouble free for months with this install...
Until yesterday when I installed BusyBox to adjust some Facebook permissions using the Permissions App. All I wanted was the Permissions App, but I needed BB to install it, so I did it without knowing really what it was. What is it exactly?
Now my phone will boot but after I unlock the screen, it will just freeze and reboot like 10 mins later. Sometimes I can get further but within a minute or so, it freezes once again.
Yesterday, I also installed a new 32GB SD card but I don't think that's the problem, as I've tried my old card. I'm considering just reflashing the device with a new ROM but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything.
If anyone has a fix or suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

Lol accidentally given a thanks but eh, doesn't matter.
You'll need to reinstall, since you have no backup to work with and we don't have a flashable zip of the WIND system files for ya, sorry.

Titanium backup makes backups of apps/app data, a system backup via recovery makes a backup of the entire system including all files/apps, etc in the the system partition, that's why you should always make a backup in recovery and keep it on your sd card just in case this happens, busybox and the likes change system files/permissions etc, just in case it doesn't work well, you can use a system backup to restore the system files it modified.
Two totally backups, get the idea?
Ah ha, makes sense. I wish I had known this earlier but I suppose this is how you learn.
Could it be possible to grab the titanium backup files if I attach my phone to my computer in disk mode then transfer them when I install the new ROM?

Should be possible, if you can't get it done in the android interface, reboot into 4EXT recovery and choose the mount USB storage option, should make your memory card pop up like it would on the phone for you to copy your files to your pc.
Ok i have a a few backups and i need to see whats on them, i know unyaffs-x86-win but that disnt show what i want it to.. is there an emulator where i can restore from backup.. all my 4g evo are broke, which is what the backups are from.. i have a 3d, can i restore it on that? what are my options..
You could restore your og backups onto your 3d if you want to risk bricking your phone.
The recovery I use compresses the backup as a tarball file so you could try to open it with something like 7zip. Never tried it myself, so reply back with how it goes.

It will read the DATA backup but whatever you do, DO NOT INSTALL SYSTEM APP's you will screw up your rom. Yes System app's will be listed in the data backup.
What I was talking about if you were not using a market text messaging app then you wont be able to get the texts back.
Does anyone know of any software that I could use to clone the software and settings of my old Atrix to a new one? I know that I could use Titanium Backup to transfer the files and settings over, but is there a way to clone it by connecting both phones to a computer?
Not 100% sure if it would work but maybe a nandroid backup? An restore on the other device?

I was thinking of that as well, considering that nandroid is basically a "system image." I'm looking for something I can keep on my computer and use as a quick use if I replace my Atrix again. Thanks though I will give it a shot, just have to make a nandroid back up on my new phone first.
Update: It worked, no bricking happened, I am pleased with this. I would still like to find a cloning software, for future purposes.

I thought nandroid would copy data too so all your apps and settings would copy over aswel.

Yes, nandroid is the best way to "clone" your whole user environment, but be careful - you don't want to copy everything. For example, a nandroid backup also includes pds, and that is best not copied to the new device.

GO Backup is the most simple and complete way. Save the backup to microsd, take this and put in the destination and restore data. You need root of course.

This might explain the initial instability that I encountered after the first boot, but it's cleared up after a few boots, we'll see how it goes. Is there a way that I could have removed the pds from the nand and replace it with the original pds? And if there is, are there any other files that you would recommend doing the same thing with? Thanks in advanced.

Yes, I'm aware of GO Backup, I prefer Titanium Backup though, I even have the pro key for TiBu, but I wanted a more "complete" cloning. Thanks for the tip though, I appreciate everyone's input.

This is the content of my nandroid backup:
Code:
boot.img
cache.ext3.tar
data.ext3.tar
nandroid.md5
pds.ext3.tar
recovery.img
system.ext3.tar
I think pds is the only one that should not be restored. cache should not need to be cloned but it doesn't matter if it does. You can just delete the pds file and also the entry for it from nandroid.md5 (but make sure you use a text editor that has good UNIX support). No need to replace it with another pds - what's not in nandroid.md5 simply won't get touched or restored.

Hello All,
I have a Rooted VZW GN2 running Scott's CleanROM with the Perseus kernel with TWRP as the recovery tool. I screwed up royally a few days ago and bricked my phone (dicking around with the Google Wallet mod, which failed I might add) but was able to fix it and get all my settings back the right way. Well given that it took nearly 3 days, I'd like to save a backup of everything how it is.
How do I accomplish this task? I read on xda that a lot of people use "nandroid" so I downloaded it, did the backup using the "online version" that lets you do a nandroid backup while the phone is running (not in Recovery mode) and it saved the copy to a "clockworkmod" folder. Now I know that clockwork recovery is an option besides TWRP, but since I have TWRP does it make this backup useless? Or can I do a full TWRP backup (everything selected) and will it serve the exact same purpose?
Thanks for the help everyone!!!

OK. First i would ALWAYS backup via recovery. So go in TWRP and back it up. However you could try to restore it and if it didn't work it would say MD5 mismatch.

I'd just like to be efficient with what memory I do have at the moment. I know that TWRP saves the file in its own folder, but it's actually a large collection of files. My plan was to zip them and upload the zip file to Dropbox and delete the "on-phone" copies. Then if worst came to worst, I would just download the zip back on there via my USB cable (I could extract if it necessary) and then I'd restore it. I just want to know if that would work and whether or not TWRP would be able to use a .ZIP file or if it would need all of the files individually.

Okay, I just did some light reading on Orange Back Up but I'm unsure how it works. Does it replace TWRP / Clockwork? Does it require one or the other for reflashing it's nandroid backup? I really like TWRP's setup and would be reluctant to change from it (although I would do it if the advantages stack up).

I'm confused, isn't that what I've been saying the last several posts? What I plan on doing is zipping up my TWRP files, DropBoxing them, and if I need them I'll just hardload them onto my SD card (extracted into the folder or as a zip file depending on what TWRP needs) and then I'd restore that way.

Just make sure to not compress the zip. Not sure that TWRP will be able to restore a compressed backup (probably won't).

I understand you're concerned about saving as much memory as you can. This is something the rest of us face as well, but quit trying to cut corners and simply do a backup the way you're supposed to and move on with your life instead of trying to invent a shortcut. The tried and true methods used within these forums have worked for years the way they're supposed to.
Either use CWM or TWRP to make your backup. I always keep one active backup and delete older ones. It's easy and almost impossible to screw up.
After I soft bricked my device, I found myself making several types of backups after reading on the forums many different ways of backing up. It appears that my efforts are superfluous and that only one backup is necessary. For this reason, I was trying to figure out the best way to store the backup files. I was zipping the file not to save space as much as I was to have only one file to export to Dropbox, as Dropbox only allows files to be imported instead of entire backup folders.
