SGS3 Root Problem - Can't Fix - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, this is my first thread on this forum and I'm fairly newbie to the whole rooting thing so bare with me.
Okay, so firstly I know this was really stupid, but I didn't know at the time. I rooted my SGS3 using Odin3 and CF-Root which worked perfectly and then I upgraded to 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (XXDLJ1) over the root via the Software Upgrade.
Now, my phone is showing that the "Device Status" is "Modified" and my root has stopped working aswell. I've reset the phone to factory default and tried to root again (using the same method, Odin3 and CF-Root) and it shows in Odin that it's failed ("<ID:0/004> Can't open the serial(COM) port.")
I'm completely lost, all I want to do is completely unroot my phone and get it back to stock firmware with a reset flash counter if possible.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The device status shows Modified when the phone gets rooted. That's nothing to worry about. You're root is not working because you updated your firmware. try flashing CF Root with Odin v1.85. The same thing happened to me once, and using a different odin version fixed it for me. To reset the flash counter you need to download TriangleAway that will reset the count. But to use it you need to be rooted. So download the odin attached and flash CF Root.
Now to completely unroot your phone and return to stock just follow these steps in the video and you should be perfectly fine! Nothing to worry about.

rooting problems

I tried rooting my Galaxy S3 using Odin3 v1.85 with CF Root- SGS3 -v6.3 but was unsuccesful. I thought i bricked my phone but was able to re-flash with boot-stock sprint-SPH-l710 to get it back to a useable condition.
I tried to root it again using the same method but i keep getting the same result and i keep having to flash it with the stock sprint file.
When i put the phone into download mode it shows 11 attempts and as being custom but the phone is not rooted.
Any suggestions on how to complete the root process?
Thanks in advance

[Q] Flashing to stock & reset flash counter

Hi all,
I'm about to reset my S3 (GT-i9300) back to complete stock, unrooted. I'm currently rooted and running Illusion 2.1 beta (Android 4.2.2 I believe).
I'm looking for someone with a little more knowledge than myself to run over the following steps and let me know if there's something I'm missing, or about to do wrong! Any help/advice/guidance is very much appreciated.
I've tried to do the research myself - I'm simply lacking the confidence to just go ahead with some flaky knowledge.
Download Odin 3.07
Download latest 4.1.2 BTU firmware from sammobile
Flash said firmware using Odin (only use Auto-reboot and reset F-time)
Root the phone (what's best to use for this nowadays??)
Download and run Triangle Away
Flash firmware once more via Odin
Is the above correct? Is there a way to format internal memory to get rid of the nonsense that has built up from custom ROMs/apps/etc.?
Also, I'm slightly unsure about the best tools to use for point 4 at the moment, but I'm sure I'll find them here
Thanks in advance for any help.

see my comments above. In addition here is a guide.
Furthermore make sure you have stock recovery & kernel, as otherwise it will maybe increase the counter (both should come with stock firmware though).

[Q] Flash official stock firmware on Galaxy S4 tmobile

I need help from you guys. I have a tmobile galaxy s4, I was rooted with cm11 4.4.2 and I tried to unroot to stock with odin and a firmware, but I fail and got a soft brick the first time. I download different odins and firmwares and finally got it to work, PASS I have stock 4.2.2 m919uvuemk2. but when it restarted I tried to delete wipe cache partition and reboot like it ask me to but it didn't work. Every time I reboot phone it gives me a message before it turns onit says kernel is not seandroid enforcing and set warranty bit kernel. My phone works fine except the wifi, it doesn't turn on. the devise status still say CUSTOM and I can not software update it says your devise your devise has been modify. I checked for root access and there is none. what can I do to fix this problems, should I reroot and use triangle away to delete the BINARY AND KNOX messages and after try to use a 4.3 firmware instead of 4.2.2. I want to have a complete stock phone that I can do OTA updates. Can some one please give the steps and point me in the right direction so I can take care of this problems. Thank You...

[Q] Problems after installing android 4.3 on S3

Hey guys,
Could someone please help me with my problem. I'll try to be as clear as possible.
I had my fully working, factory unlocked from Three carrier GT-I9300 with 4.1.2 version, however yesterday I decided to updated my phones firmware via Odin 3.07 to 4.3 I9300XXUGML3. Everything went smoothly but after a while i noticed that it does not have any reception.
In phones status it shows:
Network: Unknown
Service state: Out of Service
My Phone Number: Unknown
IMEI: 00499901640000
Device status: Official
I figured it out that culprit might be IMEI code, so I reinstalled 4.3 version a few times but without success. After that I rooted my phone with Kingo Android root in order to fix my reception problem but It did not work out. In the end I thought to just send it to Samsung's warranty. However before sending phone I wanted to run TriangleAway in order to reset my binary count, but It does not resets. I thought that Knox might be stopping it from resetting as it's 4.3, however phone does not have Knox installed in it, even when in Download mode there is nothing written about Knox.
So I'm now in a pickle as I have:
-Corrupted IMEI
-No Reception
-TriangleAway does not resets binary
-Knox nowhere to be found (But I guess it's a good thing)
It would be really good to at least to reset binary count in order to send it to warranty to just forget about this mess
Any ideas what is going on? I could not find any solution or problem which is similar to mine.
Triangle away won't work on later bootloader, downgrade to ICS bootloader.

Isn't there a high chance of bricking phone while downgrading from 4.3 to ICS?
I tried now to flash my phone with stock I9300XXUGMK6 firmware in order to root it with CF-Auto-Root and then use Triangle Away to reset my binary counter. However It did not reset it.
Before that tried CWM, flashed kernel, flashed modem, used mobile odin. Sadly everything was in vain. I'm at loss now, don't know what do to. Maybe i'm doing something wrong? Maybe there is some kind of problem with the phone?

Fixed
So I fixed it!
I had Mk6 firmware installed with cf-auto root.
After that I installed Boeffla's kernel (beta5 version) with mobile Odin and used TriangleAway 3.26 in order to reset my binary counter. Immediately after using mobile Odin again I installed official mk6 firmware and voila! Everything official and binary count set to 0, however I still had problem with IMEI and network so I sent phone to samsung as I have warranty.
Thanks everyone for helping out

[Q] Soft bricked after 4.4 OTA update Please help

It's been 3 days since I had my phone soft bricked. Here's what happened. I had rooted 4.1.2 and my sister accepted OTA when 4.3 (MJ9) came out so I lost my root access. Everything was working fine and I wasn't doing much on my phone so I didn't bother to root it back. 4.3 (VRUAND3) OTA failed on my phone when it came out and I didn't care about it because it was still on 4.3. When 4.4 came out, I decided to do OTA update and everything went fine except when it rebooted. It will pass the samsung logo but when it got to Verizon logo, it was just stuck there. So I searched this forum and tried everything that I found about unbricking the soft bricked phone. All stock roms will fail at sboot.bin except for root66_VZW_stock_system.tar (I did try with and without .pit and I only checked autoreboot F. Reset time) but when I do that then I will get the system software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found error (with yellow triangle). Here's the list of stock roms I tried and odin versions.
ROM: root66_VZW_stock_system.tar, I605VZWEMJ9, I605VRALJB, I605VZWAND3 (all with and without .pit)
Odin: 1.85, 3.07, 3.09
The only good thing is that I still have my odin mode and the number of binary didn't change. And I didn't get the knox.....
I really need you guys' expertise... any suggestion will help at this moment... Sorry for the lengthy post I really tried to be specific on what I tried so far.... I'm currently downloading VRAND7 (4.4) and I'm out of the option after I try this one with odin.... Thank you.

The reason they all fail at sboot is bc you are attempting to downgrade to fix it..that's not possible.. so here is what you need to do.
Go to Sammobile.com
Go to Firmwares (top of page)
Scroll down to Search
Type "SCH-I605"
Select & download ND7 4.4.2
Flash via Odin w/ pit
It should pass and you will be good to go

Nope. You taking the 4.3 and 4.4.2 OTA locked your bootloader.. so therfore no flashing custom roms like that one and I don't believe there is even a root method yet..
Oh okay thank you for your info. I flashed it to 4.4 and it`s working. I`ll wait for the developer`s to come up with the rooting method for 4.4 thank you guys for everything
