I tried rooting my Galaxy S3 using Odin3 v1.85 with CF Root- SGS3 -v6.3 but was unsuccesful. I thought i bricked my phone but was able to re-flash with boot-stock sprint-SPH-l710 to get it back to a useable condition.
I tried to root it again using the same method but i keep getting the same result and i keep having to flash it with the stock sprint file.
When i put the phone into download mode it shows 11 attempts and as being custom but the phone is not rooted.
Any suggestions on how to complete the root process?
Thanks in advance

Hello all, this is my first thread on this forum and I'm fairly newbie to the whole rooting thing so bare with me.
Okay, so firstly I know this was really stupid, but I didn't know at the time. I rooted my SGS3 using Odin3 and CF-Root which worked perfectly and then I upgraded to 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (XXDLJ1) over the root via the Software Upgrade.
Now, my phone is showing that the "Device Status" is "Modified" and my root has stopped working aswell. I've reset the phone to factory default and tried to root again (using the same method, Odin3 and CF-Root) and it shows in Odin that it's failed ("<ID:0/004> Can't open the serial(COM) port.")
I'm completely lost, all I want to do is completely unroot my phone and get it back to stock firmware with a reset flash counter if possible.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The device status shows Modified when the phone gets rooted. That's nothing to worry about. You're root is not working because you updated your firmware. try flashing CF Root with Odin v1.85. The same thing happened to me once, and using a different odin version fixed it for me. To reset the flash counter you need to download TriangleAway that will reset the count. But to use it you need to be rooted. So download the odin attached and flash CF Root.
Now to completely unroot your phone and return to stock just follow these steps in the video and you should be perfectly fine! Nothing to worry about.
Hello totally ripping my face off trying to get the correct combination of rooting and installing roms. I have been able to root (checked with root checker) but I am stuck there. Can someone walk me through the next steps. I rooted with Odin 1.85 and the .tar file that doesn't trip found on this site. Thank you.
Hey so I followed the thread. I'm now on NC5. But my phone isn't rooted. (Or not rooted properly from what root checker is saying) I tried rooting with Odin. I even flashed the recovery twrp through odin. Nothing. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Tried towelroot?
Towelroot may root it.
Rooted mine did not trip Knox.

You have to stop posting in 10 different places. That is not going to help you. Stick to 1 thread. I haven't been checking the site as much recently but if you still need help I'll give it a go. If I remember correctly you wanted to run Sacs rom right? All you need to do is flash a custom recovery using Odin then flash the rom of choice in recovery. As long as the rom is rooted(they all are) you will then have root. No need to gain root by any other method unless staying stock NC5.

Have you turned debugging on in developers opinions before going into dl mode? Just wondering.
Remember that you are doing this of your own free will and if anything happens negatively including Vader going back to the dark side it's your fault.
If all else fails go back to the basics.
Go back to the cleanest stock rom.
1)You would want to back up anything onto a computer and your SD card including nandroid if possible if you don't know what a nandroid is you may not yet have the technical ability to make one.
1a) download the latest stock version of 4.4.2 use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712205
2)go here
http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-repair/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-3/
Print it out
3) download the Odin from here
4)the above has links to Odin and step by step instructions with pictures
5) download towelroot from http://towelroot.com
Put it on your SD card
5) pull your SD card safely and reset your phone with factory data reset or if your running a custom recovery through it.
6) follow the steps from
http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-repair/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-3/
you should of printed it out....
7) after it says pass and is booting put your SD card in.
8) side load/install towelroot
8a) run towelroot and make it rain
9) install root checker verify it worked and then a superuser program.
At this point you will have a rooted 4.4.2 stock rom.
For the latest stock version of 4.4.2 use this

And yes the Odin listed in the unroot website flashes that rom on my sprint phone without a problem.
Worked for me.

So I Tried to root my newly acquired I717, using this method
"How To: Root AT&T Galaxy Note i717 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 " on You Tube by mooneyb123
I tried on my macbook but I wouldn't recognize the note in Jodin. So I used my Fiances pc.
I had to install keis as the video did not mention that., But it did instal TWRP, which is awesome, But when I tried to instal the CWM-SuperuserSU-v0.94 file nothing happens, it appears to work fine and says successful but when I reboot and check for Root its not rooted.
I've tried this 4 times now.
I don't know what to do next
I want to root to get rid of the ATT bloatware, and possibly overclock. I might try a stable rom like padawan later but I mainly just want to root. Is their any way to do it with TWRP? or am I going to have to go another route?
Also can I odin CWM on or do I need to wipe the device to factory first. The main thing is I don't want to brick it as I am using the phone daily.
I tried what I thought would be the "easiest" looking way to root, but since it didn't work, I need some advice.
How do i get it back to stock recovery If its not rootable? I am running 4.1.2.
I did upgrade soon after I got the device but am wondering If I could have rooted it easier on the original version of android.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
is their any way I can do it with
I did a pretty good job of bricking my phone earlier this week Heimdall couldn't flash, odin couldn't flash. It was stuck on the use verizon repair utility screen, which also didn't work. I used smart switch's initialize device feature and it re did the update to of1. But after that I flashed the kernal back to oc1 and strangely enough... wonderhsare mobile go one click root would not work. It just got stuck sitting at reading device for hours on end I tried it a zillion and one times. So out of desperation.. I tried king root and vwhaalaha :victory::highfive: I don't know what changed. I had rooted my of1 sch i545 using the normal downgrade to oc1 kernal and one click root with mobile go before. But after using the smart switch update to unbrick my phone, only king root would do the job. So if anyone else can't get wondershare to work, try king root
