Hey!
I was trying to root my friends phone, since I got more experience than him on rooting.
I downloaded Super One Click Root 2.3.1 and rooting it was a success.
I got Superuser and Busybox installed, but here's where my problem starts.
I still have the original recovery(download mode) look, so it hasn't changed.
I can't backup my phone using ROM manager, it says whole-verification failed(or something like that).
I can't use Odin v1.85 because I'm getting stuck on Setupconnection.
So, shortly said, I can't backup or restore anything. But I do have ROOT access.
Because of that I don't wanna continue installing any ROM's or Kernels!
Any kind soul wanna help me out? <3
This isn't anything like rooting a Nexus S

Is that method not out of date .

I tried rooting my Galaxy S3 using Odin3 v1.85 with CF Root- SGS3 -v6.3 but was unsuccesful. I thought i bricked my phone but was able to re-flash with boot-stock sprint-SPH-l710 to get it back to a useable condition.
I tried to root it again using the same method but i keep getting the same result and i keep having to flash it with the stock sprint file.
When i put the phone into download mode it shows 11 attempts and as being custom but the phone is not rooted.
Any suggestions on how to complete the root process?
Thanks in advance
I'm having issues after updating to latest Stock Vodafone Australia Firmware PDA:I9300TDUBLH1 CSC:I9300TVAUBLH1.
I cannot re-root SGS3 using CF Root 6.4. It doesn't install the SU binaries nor CWM, but on Odin it shows success patching the CF root 6.4 tar file.
My flash count goes up by 1, seen from download mode screen, but do not see any warning symbol at boot.
No CWM or Superuser installed. All rooted programs complain cannot access root.
Need some help here. Anyone else got their's working? No mention of anything on XDA that it doesn't work with LH1.
I used to have I9300TDUBLF2, and it works perfectly fine before flashing to the latest I9300TDUBLH1 yesterday. Some pointers please.
Hey, this might be pointing out the obvious, like restarting the computer. But are you sure you unzipped the ZIP to a TAR file, or put the TAR file in some other place other than the PDA section in ODIN, or ticked re-partition. But probably not seeings most of those would brick your phone. I got the update to the same firmare and rooting worked perfectly, if not better.
Possibly, you may have to wait till 4.1.1 comes out (said to be tomorrow 29th August), install it, and root when the com has discovered how to
Another chance could be the version of Odin you are running
Hi!
Just try again.
Had to install a couple of times before it worked.
The problem is also explained in the CF root thread.
I am on vodafone AUS as well and I am having the same problem with multiple attempts using CF-Root. I am wondering the the S3 toolkit v5 will work instead?
Thanks

Hello all, this is my first thread on this forum and I'm fairly newbie to the whole rooting thing so bare with me.
Okay, so firstly I know this was really stupid, but I didn't know at the time. I rooted my SGS3 using Odin3 and CF-Root which worked perfectly and then I upgraded to 4.1.1 Jelly Bean (XXDLJ1) over the root via the Software Upgrade.
Now, my phone is showing that the "Device Status" is "Modified" and my root has stopped working aswell. I've reset the phone to factory default and tried to root again (using the same method, Odin3 and CF-Root) and it shows in Odin that it's failed ("<ID:0/004> Can't open the serial(COM) port.")
I'm completely lost, all I want to do is completely unroot my phone and get it back to stock firmware with a reset flash counter if possible.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The device status shows Modified when the phone gets rooted. That's nothing to worry about. You're root is not working because you updated your firmware. try flashing CF Root with Odin v1.85. The same thing happened to me once, and using a different odin version fixed it for me. To reset the flash counter you need to download TriangleAway that will reset the count. But to use it you need to be rooted. So download the odin attached and flash CF Root.
Now to completely unroot your phone and return to stock just follow these steps in the video and you should be perfectly fine! Nothing to worry about.
I was trying to root my sisters S3 i9300, until the Auto Rooting App i used, didn't work and changed the kernel(without root access available ) and now whenever i try other rooting apps it doesn't work. I think its because of the kernel change it wont let me root. So someone told me to "Get back a stable system by flashing latest firmware by Odin. If it boots normally, use cf-auto-root (by Odin, too). ".
I got ODIN 3.10.6.
Problem:How to flash latest stock S3 i9300 firmware(link would be appreciated) by ODIN?
How to then use CF Auto Root, to root my device?
A video or clearly detailed written tut would be awesome
I know is quite noobish question but YOLO?
