Root HTC Amaze on Win8 not possible? - HTC Amaze 4G

Has anybody had any luck rooting the phone on win8 computer? I cannot get the HTC drivers to install.

Wrong thread! You should ask in General/Hacking thread

you need to check with HTC (www.htc.com) i dont think windows 8 is supported yet since it was released recently..

I did check the HTC site, I was hoping xda would of had a work around for this.

Windows 7/XP/Vista drivers will not install on Windows 8... One of yet another bits of stupid Microsoft does with a new OS release....
Hell, alot of things won't install on Windows 8... Best thing you can do is downgrade (really an upgrade this time, though - kind of like Vista->XP or ME->98SE) to 7... Lots of headaches to be saved that way....

Well you could put a linux distro on a flash drive and then boot from that if you didnt feel like creating a partition for it on your hard drive. I'd recommend Puppy Linux

You need to disable "enforce driver signing" to get them to install in windows 8.

Mhmm not so sure Virtualbox will be able to virtualize stuff that it isn't even able to do on the first level
Actually if virtual box was able to do this there would be muuuch less trouble with drivers on Linux (thinking about iPods, printers, scanners...)

[GUIDE] How to change the Sprint banner using CDMA Workshop

I was looking for a way to change the Sprint banner just like I did with my EVO 4G and I did not find anything specifically for the EVO 3D. Fortunately, the exact same steps to do this for the EVO 4G works with the EVO 3D. I attached some screenshots to show the changes.
apristel said:
What to change the Sprint banner to something else?
Well here is how.
This is a rough guide, maybe I'll get ambitious and spruce it up when I have some more time...
Install HTC Sync if you haven't already..
Get it here.
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631
Gonna need the HTC Diag drivers, least I did... these work fine:
http://rapidshare.com/files/293529424/HTC_Hero_DIAG_Drivers.zip x86 32bit
Here are the /64 bit drivers thanks to techwerkz
http://www.techwerkz.com/evo/HTCDiagDrivers.zip
Mod edit: No linking to warez site or suggesting users to get warez is allowed
Enter DIAG mode, dial ##diag#, let windows install the drivers...most likely it won't find the HTC DIAG drivers, but they are in the link above... get it installed.
Now in CDMA workshop, you really don't want to be effin' with stuff you aren't sure what it is... but we are here to change the banner right? riight so don't be changing anything else and you'll be a-ok.
Select your port, hit connect, hit read... goto the NAM tab...hit Read ...change the Banner from "Sprint" to whatever..hit "Write".... then you can reboot the phone and its done.
To find your port...

}
Select your port, hit connect then hit read. ( picture shows "Disconnect" only because I already pushed connect... )
Goto the NAM tab, hit read, change the banner, hit write. Reboot your phone
Enjoy!
Mods if there is a problem with me posting the link to isohunt, I'll gladly remove it.

Where is it? I was unable to find it in the EVO 3D section. And when I searched in the EVO 4G section, i only found the CDMA Workshop method (which worked for me), and the QPST method (which didn't worked for me). I will, of course, add it to the OP as an alternative to CDMA Workshop.
How is it better? This method works great

JsChiSurf hasn't made a thread yet. He's been posting zips in the synergy ROM thread. It's simple, you create 2 files in /system/customize, one called "carrier.txt" and one "lock_carrier.txt" and input your text you want in the file. Then you flash his zips, and boom, done. He doesn't post a lot, so if you just search his username, and then his posts, you'll find it. I can link you zips, but he's made a lot of versions, whether you wanted no bubbles or app text on the lock, whether you want recent apps or clock or transparency in the dropdown, etc. There's like 7 or 8 zips. I guess you could PM me which one you want, and if the zip exists I can link you.

Yeah ... Well will with this your phone is like a portable full on desktop that you can just plug in. Maybe not as powerful as a regular desktop but it would bring the functionality of a full desktop to mobile.
Here I am running Backtrack. A security linux distro. The only thing that doesn't work right now is sound. It is the same with most versions of Linux.

This is so sick. Finally, I might be able to do my quick apk edits and such right on my phone. (Probably not)
Is it worth the paid version?
Not really, the free version works fine. The biggest reason to pay is to support the project. Which is a good idea. I believe they are having issues with ubuntu right now, the image may be corrupt. I am a novice when it comes to Linux, but figure it is a good way to lean when I am away from my laptop.

One word. Wubi.
It lets you install Ubuntu as a regular application in Windows and after installing you'll be able to dual boot. Want to remove it? Just delete it like you usually do with other programs. Sure, it takes some time to set it all up after installation, but it'll be more stable and run better.
