Galaxy S II freezes - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
This is the first time I post something.
Last weekend I upgraded my phone to CM 9.1
Phone specs:
Galaxy S2
kernel: ge9cef6c blinky-ghost
Cyanogenmod 9.1 stable
While installing I wiped out all caches etc..
Now ... when I play an app:
usually a 3D game. The game freezes so that no button works. I have to get the battery out of it.
It happened a couple of other times with non 3d apps too.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance.

good read, you need to work on your rhythm though, i can tell by the line length you were going for iambic tetrameter but you kinda failed.
Galaxy S2
kernel: ge9cef6c blinky-ghost
Cyanogenmod 9.1 stable
While installing I wiped out all caches etc..
has the potential to be a great haiku, more work needed.

Try to use another kernel. Try siyah or dorimanx

Thanks for your reply Kilometers,
Doesn't it matter what kernel I have because of the I9100XXLQ6 I have now?
To Postfatal: I was writing it on my phone...

With siyah, there is a certain number when he stopped making ics kernels. I think it was 4.1.5 but I am not 100% sure. Maybe you can Google it.
But why don't you want to upgrade to jellybean?

Dorimanx 5.92 or siyah 5.0.1 work.

and it's alot smoother all apps are working.
although it's missing the nice samsung contacts and dialer, but i find it better than the stock ICS 4.0.3 , which i noticed getting hot.
I am now at indies ICS rom nice and fast.. Next will be MIUI 4 if it is stable enough for me

[Q] Siyah Kernel, Cannot use Speedmod kernel

Hi,
I am using CM 9 (14th April nightly build). I flashed Siyah's kernel 3.1rc4. Everything seems to work fine with it. But then I flashed the Speedmod kernel (K3-9).
Now when my phone boots, I don't see any boot animation and as soon as the lockscreen appears I get lots of "has stopped working popups" for various services (phone, acore etc etc) and the phone is basically un-usable.
I tried flashing CM 9 again, so that I get Codeworx's kernel. I flashed Speedmod over it but still the same problem
Anyone here facing/faced a similar issue ?
Thanks!
why are you migrating yourself from no problems to problems,
forget the Kernel which is giving treble thats it...or you really want to know the reason ask in the speedmode kernel thread....

Oh that is sad ! Speedmod was the best kernel that I had on GB. That is why I wanted to try out the ICS version.

Because I haven't found a sweet spot yet. That is why I am experimenting with different kernels.

Will post in the speedmod thread. Just wanted to know if this was a generic problem with all kernels or just speedmod specific.
It says very clearly in the Speedmod thread that it works only on Samsung based firmwares. CM9, AOKP, etc... are not Samsung based firmwares, so not too surprisingly it doesn't work.

Sleep of Death....what can i do?

Hi,
For the past while i was getting the SOD only using Siyah based kernels and Phenomenal was working fine for me, but after updating to version 6.1 my phone has started to switch off again. Is this a problem with hardware and do i need to send the phone away for repair or can it be fixed by myself some other way?
I have went back to Phenomenal 5,5 kernel and am waiting to see if i still get the problem.
Cheers.

Hello,
I have tried just about all the latest ICS and JB roms......
The make of your phone. There are many different variants of your device. I9100 G/M/P/T
Are you rooted/unrooted?
What rom you are using? -and- What kernel are you using?
Have you flashed any mods/scripts/themes?
Have you changed DPI? If yes, to what?
I have a UK T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II I9100XXLQ6
I am rooted
I was Dual Booting with SuperNexus JB Build 2 and Portal Rom 2.4 using the latest siyah kernel and i got the SOD using SuperNexus, i then removed The second rom and used the ultimate kernel cleaning script to remove Siyah and installed Phenomenal 6.1 with Portal Rom and i got the SOD a day later.
I am not using any mods or extra scripts
I have not changed the dpi
I noticed this problem when i first tried a dual boot a few months ago but has been stable until now only with Phenomenal 5.5. i have tried the other siyah based kernels and i still got the SOD.
Yesterday i flashed the Phenomenal 5.5 along with Portal rom and it's been fine so far but i can get 2-4 days before it happens then it happens a few times daily after the first SOD.
EDIT: Thats it switched off again. Think i will need to send it in for repair?

I'm having the same thing happen. Try to go back to the stock rr kernel. I think dorimanx is having freezing problems.

I'm assuming that you guys flashed another ROM, or reflash and the issue persist.
Am I right?

Are you underclocking or undervolting at all? CPU/GPU
Any tweak scripts flashed? Though we all want to benefit from extended battery savings our phones are all different and this can sometimes lead to freezes or reboots...
Sometimes it can be related to overheating as well, so this is when under clocking (using a lower frequency) may be useful. Are you usually using your phone when it reboots or it reboots when it is sitting there?
If you arent underclocked or undervolted at the moment you can try using a different scheduler and governor through an app like Voltage Control or SetCPU. Otherwise as some individuals mentioned you can try using a different kernel. I think DorimanX at the moment is too new that there are some bugs that are being tweaked out. Since you're on JB (I assume the LSJ leak) you can either try stock PhilZ kernel, Jeboo 1.1 or Siyah Beta 4

Screen artifacts/Graphical glitch

Greetings everyone,
Recently my girlfriends S3 started having these Screen artifacts/Graphical glitch and I have no idea what is causing it. I am hoping that someone would be willing to help me out on this, as I have yet to experience anything like this personally. She is rooted and running a custom Rom and kernel.
It seems to start after opening random apps, usually games. Rebooting seems to get rid of the problem. Her phone is not overclocked/underclocked and never overheats.
Her system setup is:
Rom: XXUGMJ9 NeatROM lite v5.3
Kernel: boeffla-kernel 5.1
Video can be found here of the problem.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your response, but she had a previous version of neatrom without any issues for 7 months or so. I'll try reverting to a previous or another Rom but sock is too bloated and slow
