[Q] Unblocking S2 after siyah instalation process - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All
I installed siyah and now i have CWM , Super user programm and some Utilities icons.
I would like to unblock the device do i need to use those application mentioned or i can jump to next process which is installaion of Galaxy s2 unlock from android market???
Regarding the CWM and Super user icons which are present on the phone do we need to use them for some reason???
Regards
Vinay

install the android unlock app from market.
Super user is the app which grants you permission to access the file structure of phone so you can unlock it.
cwm is updated recovery that comes with rooting of the phone allows deeper access the root of the phone.
In any case do not make any changes to these files unless phone downloads and update.

Hello
Yesterday i failed the unblocking process with diferent ways that are suggested by XDA also previously i uploaded to my S2 stock ROM taken by SAMOBILE and i did not succeded unblocking the device; i runed ROOT checker and i found out that root process was done incorrectly so maybe this is the reason that i did not succeed in unblocking process my question is :
a) should i try different stock ROM and do all process again?
b) i am using kernel : I9100XXLQ6 is this problematic ROM that makes rooting process difficult?
Best Regards
Vinay

Try flashing siyah again to gain root, steps in the thread ,,,,do search
What unblocking are you referring to? If you meant Sim unlock have you tried the chainfire's app yet?

I need some help with rooting my Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo (MT15i).
I have unlocked my bootloader following the official method. And now I want to root my device but somehow I can't get it done.
I've tried several methods icluding DoomLoRD. But nothing works.
Can somebody explain to me what i need to do?
Is there a way to make a complete backup of my device without having root? before I try rooting?

ill follow the same link of ur 1st question reply, nd ill give u the news then !
Thanks
I also had some problems with unlocking the bootloader (on windows 7 64bit) at first, but after i turned of my antivirus everything worked just fine.
Even I have windows 7 64bit and I don't think there's any issue whatsoever!
I unlocked my bootloader only a few days back!

Please dnt mind my questions m very new here, the link to ur 1st question refers to a page of sony where its says:
"How To Root 4.0.3
Just follow the instructions here Root
now this link goes to a thread, that says do it with doom lord: which is a pain !
should i go for the flashtool process instead, but that mentions the FW 4.0.4, where as i have the stock 4.0.3 ?
Plz Help !
Flashtool can't root ics fw's.
And if doomlord's toolkit is hard for you, then don't mess with your phone at all
How can it be hard, you set 2,3options and connect phone to pc, toolkit does all the job..

For start chill your horses.
I have eyes and I can read, so no need to copy/paste what has been written in this thread.
Second, I know why doomlord's root toolkit failed for OP. doomlords toolkit CAN root .562(also known as 4..0.3) but CAN'T root .431(4.0.4) fw, which is what flashing .562 kernel is needed in order to root.
I know the procedure, I wrote the tutorial(which I linked in post#4), after which guys from talk.sonymobile wrote it on their forum, just FYI.

If you are on 4.0.3, doomlord CAN root your phone, if it can't, you are doing something wrong, in which case, we need to see log of that root process.
Flashtool is only used to flash 4.0.3 kernel, but that's for people on 4.0.4.

He failed with doomlord root toolkit because he had 4.0.4! He needed to flash kernel from 4.0.3, then use toolkit then flash back kernel from 4.0.4

if doomlord's root toolkit FOR ICS, failed for you, provide log of that process.
Now I tell you another thing, which you would know if you read all post in this thread, specially link I gave above, you have unlocked your bootloader, ffs, you can root without any mess with root toolkits, simply flash/hotboot kernel with CWM and flash superuser zip. And enjoy your phone.
Tutorial on talk.sonymobile doesn't have part for unlocked bootloaders, that's why I linked my tutorial which have both parts.
He failed with doomlord root toolkit because he had 4.0.4! He needed to flash kernel from 4.0.3, then use toolkit then flash back kernel from 4.0.4
if doomlord's root toolkit FOR ICS, failed for you, provide log of that process.
U are rite 4.0.3 is workable in doomslord but only on this doomslord toolkit for xperia "DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su"
it has pushed the SU properly nd installed it ! later i have downloaded CWM 5, so i 1st took Astro File Manager from the Market, for exploring the SD then installed the CWM 5, so when i did the SU asked to get the permission nd then all the options in CWM are ticked well and Su got CWM in its list, so all good and rooted, now please refer me the app that can solve the brightness issue in Neo V :good:
Thanx & Regards
now that i have rooted & all ! how will i go to fw .431 means 4.0.4 ? and if i flash 4.04 will my phone still be rooted ?
If u know a process of how to root in 4.0.4 nd can install su in it plz tell ! nd plz clarify me that CWM is necessary to have it 1st installed on the device or SU ?
Lets suppose ill clear the picture ... if i want to flash 4.0.4 with Kernal .431 my phone is open to root, but as u know the doomlords kit failed ! is there any otherway to push SU as a zip like ur mentioning that flash it with hotboot wats that how the process is going to be ?
Plz help !

Questions (Rooting)

Hey guys, i'm new to the XDA-Forums but i'll have some questions.
I'm about to root my Samsung Galaxy S2 Android( 4.0.3)
baseband: I9100XXLPW
and Kernel is XWLPD
I would like to root with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
I've readen this and understand everything expect some things..
If i have rooted my phone, can i still update when (a new update) 4.0.4 has released?
AND what apps does i get if i rooted? (because i only want superuser)
Well that's all i want to now,
*bump*
somebody??!
Rooting will install Superuser during the process. If you're rooted and get an OTA update and install it, you'll likely lose root. So, you just have to re-root...
Sent from my MB865 using xda's premium carrier pigeon service
I did everything, got the superuser and i did run root check but it says sorry i don't have root
realy weird
what should i do!?
i flashed again to unsecure kernel
should i start s2 root again and click root device or unroot and then root ?

Did you reboot after rooting? If you have the Superuser application from the rooting process I'd be led to believe it worked.

Root Check didn't ask for permission, or which app are you referring to? You could try to re-root, won't do any harm. You followed all 11 steps in the rooting guide exactly?

You go by your kernel version, not the build version. And once you've rooted try the helroz unlock app on the play store called galaxy_s unlock

And how else he would access EFS folder? Use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature. Simple and quick method. Then there are basically 2 apps you can use. One is able to calculate unlock code (Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock from Chainfire), but your HW revision must be older one. If you have newer version then use helroz app (Galaxy_S Unlock) which will patch nv_data.bin file to unlock it. Oh and don't forget to make backup of the EFS folder before you do anything.

How to unlock sim after installing official 4.12 german jellybean plz help

Hey guys I just upgraded from gingerbread to official german 4.12 jellybean
I9100XWLSD_I9100XXLS8_I9100DBTLS7_HOME.tar.md5
via odin.
The installation went fine but now the phone got sim locked and it asks for a network code. I saw a couple of Galaxy S sim unlock apps on the playstore but none of them work (except for the one which has the [root] prefix in it which I haven't tried since the phone isn't rooted). So I was wondering how can I unlock it? Thx in advance guys

afaik you need root to unlock it.
It's rooting time.
Ok but what method should I use? There seem to be so many around I'm getting kinda confused. As far as I can tell the custom kernel method seems to be the easiest way to get it right? And how do I know which kernel should I use?

Some SIM unlock methods do not survive the upgrade to JB. Not knowing the method, it is impossible to answer.
You can always use Galaxsim unlock (search XDA for free) to unlock the SIM once upgraded. It needs root though, but its free.

I would recommend upgrading to the very latest version for your region, yes. You need to get off ICS ASAP really.
If you're making a big leap to say, 4.1.2 (recommended) then you may be best preparing to do a factory reset. This of course wipes the internal SD card too. So just backup what you can before flashing a ROM. Even though you may not need to reset, it is best practice due to settings incompatabilities.
Then, IF you have become sim locked, you can quickly root using cf-auto root, run GalaxSim unlock and unroot again (using super use app).
