Installing Recovery - HTC Amaze 4G

This may be a noob question so please dont get annoyed. I have my amaze 4g s-on, unlocked bootloader, rooted and twrp installed via Hansoon tool. My question is that I want to install 4ext. Can I simply use Hansoon tool to install 4ext or do I have to remove twrp first? If so how do I remove it?

Yes, you can just install over it.

Even easier to just install the 4ext app and install. Or fastboot flash. Flashing recovery is one of the easiest things to do on any phone

CWM to 4ext

I have been encouraged to install 4ext, but being a noob, I don't know how to remove cwm and install 4ext. Is it a matter of downloading the new recovery program and installing and letting it overwrite or do I have to remove cwm first?
Thanks!

It overwrites . Just run the 4ext updater app
Also, I used the HTC dev method to unlock so I am still s-on. Is that an issue with this project?

It's not an issue just download the app and when it runs it will ask if you're s-on then flash the 4ext overwriting cwm. Then your all set. It can flash kernels making fast boot or flash gui obsolete

Help - Recovery not working and me no smart

I am very new to this and did something as my friend said, really stupid. I rooted my Evo LTE with the one click root method. This installed TWRP Recovery. After a few days I found a ROM I wanted to install. I installed ROM manager and along with this it installed Clockworkmod. I tried to install the rom from the zip I put on the root but clockwork opens up as my recovery instead of TWRP and does not run any commands. So after trying to get clockwordmod to work and couldn't... I decided to unroot phone and just re-root (yes very stupid). So after unrooting via SuperUser, I tried to install the RUU and it would'nt install as bootloader/recovery not work. I have no clue what to do
Are you running the ruu on your pc? It's not something you flash on your phone.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
cwm recovery dont work on the evo LTE.. u have to flash the twrp 2.2.0 recovery.. yea the ruu is like a tool.. plug ya phone in and run it.. very easy

I am trying to install the RUU through my PC. But keeps getting error message that it failed right after trying to send to bootloader

I've been trying that and it keeps failing...
You have to relock your bootloader to run an ruu.

Try to flash TWRP again. If your able to do this then running a ruu is not nessary. As stated before clockworkmod recovery has problems on the Evo LTE.

Thank you thank you, I was able to relock the bootloader last night. Tonight I will try and reflash TWRP. This has been a good learning experience so far. At least i didn't brick the phone As the phone is no longer rooted do i need to root it as part of my flashing TWRP? The one click root method installs TWRP as part of the whole process.

You do not need to be rooted to flash a recovery but your bootloader needs to be unlocked. If your unlocking your bootloader using htcdev method then you don't need to be rooted. If your unlocking your bootloader using lazypanda method then you need root or temp root before you can run lazypanda.

i was using this method, roter froze at installing recovery, and now i think my phone is bricked. it wont power on and i cant access bootloader

Can't root after relock and unroot

Has anyone else ever done this and can't reroot? Regaw method doesn't work either. No root method seems to work.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If you're running into trouble unlocking using regawmod method, try going to HTC dev site and doing the unlock bootloader process that way manually. I was running into the same thing until yesterday when I did that method. If you get unlock, just install twrp recovery using goomanager app (settings, then run/install openscript) and then flash supersu

Go here and click on select your device then go to All other supported models follow the instructions and you'll have an unlocked bootloader. Then you have to flash twrp recovery, and after that flash the rom of your choice

Yeah I eventually got it. Regawmod wouldn't reboot the phone into bootloader although it said it did. I manually put it in to bootloader,
then it would continue, only to stop at installing root. I copied the root file to sd, then went into recovery and installed that way.
PITA!

Get Root Back After Dirty Racun S-OFF TeamWIN Recovery And Superuser Flashable Zip's

2.3.1.0 TeamWIN Recovery http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/jewel/PJ75IMG-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.zip
(Change zip to "PJ75IMG.zip" and flash from bootloader)
SuperSU 0.97 (Flashable through recovery) http://download.chainfire.eu/267/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip
These were the files I needed (To Get Root Back) once I Dirty Racun S-OFF'ed my 1.15 HBOOT LTE today. Hope this helps someone, if it does thank me please...
Yeah, I had to dust out the cobwebs of my brain after successfully S-OFF'ing this morning. Wish I would have seen this thread first because I had forgotten what to do! All I did was fastboot flash the recovery via adb and then flash the zip from twrp. I had to use Ubuntu though because I can't find Windows 8 64bit drivers that work

NM. I understand the instructions now. I had to change the file name, place it on the root of the sd card (which I was not doing) and then the bootloader does the work.
hey im about to s off for h boot 1.19. do i need to root and htc dev unlock first? or can i just go straight to the s off tool and root after?

I received my EvoLTE two days ago and immediately Rooted using HTCDev and the TWRP recovery. I wrongly believed this would give me S-Off and obviously I was wrong about that. So...I need to learn how to get S-Off after Rooting. From reading on the forum it seems I have to do the S-Off procedure and then go through the Rooting process again.
Question: I'm Rooted presently, can I follow the S-Off procedure while Rooted? Will this un-Root me? I don't know if I have to un-Root first, then do the S-Off steps, then Root again, or if I can just do S-Off which will un-Root me then Root again.
I haven't found a clear answer yet and appreciate any and all help.
thanks,
DC
I s-off my brother's phone last week, I just flashed recovery thru the hboot then flashed a custom Rom and was good to go since the Rom already has su in it.

Yes u can follow the instructions to gain soff (make sure you choose the right method for your h-boot) then you will have to regain root access by method of your choice but if you are new I'd recommend using regaw's automatic rooter and skip the htc unlock step (because after s-offing you will already be unlocked)

I think this was directed at my questions, so thanks. I'll try to find Regaw's automatic rooter. I've rooted 4 phones now, I'm certainly no expert and I go slow and it takes a while but it's always worked. I'll update when I accomplish the task.
thanks!

Awesome this pretty much answered my question of the next step after getting s-off from dirtyracun. They are so concerned with only s-off in their thread that they don't even point anyone in the right direction afterwards. I am sure their method is 99% safe and so on, but it woulda been nice to see some guidance on the next step (ie regaining root, loading recovery, loading custom rom, etc)
EDIT: Successfully Got S-off via racun, running win 7 32 bit, evo 4g lte, flashed recovery & SU as listed by TC successfully. Phone is NOT a brick.
Glad to be of help! Now the phone is really "yours" to enjoy

The TWRP zip has to be on the root of your external SD card. It won't work from internal storage.

Trouble with recovery

I achieved s-off with dirty racun but I have not been able to get into recovery or flash a ROM. I am wondering if my bootloader didn't get unlocked.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
i guess you didnt realize why there are only roms posted in this section
1. You should know for a fact when you unlock your bootloader as is says TAMPERED big as hell after you do it. 2. You need to flash a recovery via adb "fastboot flash recovery.img" because your phone does not come stock with a recovery so it will not appear if you haven't flashed one. 3. You clearly posted in the wrong section and if you don't take time to read (rules and guides step by step) around here you most likely won't be helped and you may even get made fun of.

Have you rooted your phone, or have you only run Dirty Racun? Gaining S-off and root are not the same, and Dirty Racun won't root your phone. You have to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and the proper su binary to attain root, at which time you can flash ROM's, etc.

Need help with flash a recovery. Re-locked by phone and flash 2.13 RUU so I could get the OTA. After getting the OTA I unlocked again and trying to get root and nothing is working. When I use the command "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.1.8-jewel.img or fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.img" it keepingsaying "sending 'recovery' (7220 KB)..." and never happens. It just sits there. The OTA installed hboot 2.09. Anyone have any ideas what is going on and does anyone else have the same problem after taking the OTA.
Did you try flashing recovery through bootloader at all?

Thanks for the reply. I have it working now. In fastboot mode the drivers provided no longer work. I had to download and install HTC Sync with the latest driver. The I was able to install a recovery (TWRP) system. With the posted drivers would not work.
