i guess you didnt realize why there are only roms posted in this section
1. You should know for a fact when you unlock your bootloader as is says TAMPERED big as hell after you do it. 2. You need to flash a recovery via adb "fastboot flash recovery.img" because your phone does not come stock with a recovery so it will not appear if you haven't flashed one. 3. You clearly posted in the wrong section and if you don't take time to read (rules and guides step by step) around here you most likely won't be helped and you may even get made fun of.

Have you rooted your phone, or have you only run Dirty Racun? Gaining S-off and root are not the same, and Dirty Racun won't root your phone. You have to unlock your bootloader, flash a custom recovery and the proper su binary to attain root, at which time you can flash ROM's, etc.

Need help with flash a recovery. Re-locked by phone and flash 2.13 RUU so I could get the OTA. After getting the OTA I unlocked again and trying to get root and nothing is working. When I use the command "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.1.8-jewel.img or fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.img" it keepingsaying "sending 'recovery' (7220 KB)..." and never happens. It just sits there. The OTA installed hboot 2.09. Anyone have any ideas what is going on and does anyone else have the same problem after taking the OTA.

Thanks for the reply. I have it working now. In fastboot mode the drivers provided no longer work. I had to download and install HTC Sync with the latest driver. The I was able to install a recovery (TWRP) system. With the posted drivers would not work.

Hello.
I have a friend's Thunderbolt that's called HTC Cobalt in Open Mobile. I unlocked it via HTC dev and it all ran successfully. Now I'm trying to install a recovery (CWM). And all I get is an error.
I tried installing it via Revolutionary, but no go. I also tried the All in One Thunderbolt tool and still no go. Here's a pic of the bootloader:
Is there a way to root this thing properly to add a recovery?

And later attempted to use Zergrush, but it failed.

Well, I had to do an OEM lock just in case cuz he returns it. I told him not to though. Open mobile employees are kind of dumb so it would look better as relocked than unlocked.

since youve allready unlocked, heres what id do:
-reunlock(use original token)
-fastboot flash recovery( fastboot flash recovery <recoveryname>.img
you can use any recovery,it doesnt have to be ext 4. i personally refer twrp or amon, but thats up to you.
-flash a rooted stock rom,2.11.605.5 or older
-run revolutionary
despite calling the open mobile modle "cobalt" the hboot screen clearly displays mecha,so theres really no reason revolutionary shouldnt work.
if it is getting some sort of CID error, might try making a gold card and putting it into the phone when running revolutionary.
in a worse case, you can always make a gold card and downgrade to exploitable vzw firmware, and manually write shadowmites permanent patched hboot. after that, you should be able to fastboot oem write cid 11111111 to superCID the TB and then run the open mobile ruu to get back to that firmware.
just holler if you need a download and/or help with the commands
Great post. I will try that. Thanks a TON!!!

check out this thread:
http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...591-help-root-htc-cobalt-aka-thunderbolt.html (i actually found yours while searching for info for the other one )
all he did was run fre3vo and then revolutionary. you can stay relocked and do that(directions here: http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/418539-thunderbolt-root-unroot-thread.html )
or you can re-unlock,flash recovery, then prolly flash superuser 3.0.7 instead of flashing a stock rom. all that really matters is root acess for revolutionary to work. shouldnt matter if its temp root from fre3vo,or permanent root from htcdev
the main thing is that it worked for him without the use of a gold card.
Shouldn't I be able to flash AR Recovery 3.15 in hboot by renaming the zip to PH98IMG.zip and placing in the root directory of the external SD?
Every time I try, it says something about "wrong image" or something... It's quick, before it spits me back out to the main hboot screen.
I'm using the same zip I used to flash AR Recovery when I was running GB... Why doesn't it work now?
I've always done it through adb fastboot command fastboot flash recovery <filename>
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I tried both ways, neither worked... Could this be because I didn't flash hboot after getting s-off? I decided not to cause i read this was risky, but maybe i have to in order to flash a new recovery? I believe my hboot says locked at the top (but also says s-off).
Is that the problem ?
Locked is fine as long as you are s off. Maybe try hasoon2000's all in one toolkit, it has a feature to flash recoveries
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
I tried that too.
Here is what I got when I tried to flash via command:
c:\mini-adb_vigor>fastboot flash recovery recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img
sending 'recovery' (7078 KB)... OKAY [ 1.641s]
writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 1.959s
See any clues as to what's preventing me from flashing a recovery?

Pretty sure you have to be unlocked to be able to flash a recovery, even when S-Off.
I unlocked when i rooted. But now that i updated to ICS, do i need to re-unlock?
Does this mean I should flash a new hboot? Or should i follow HTC's unlock instructions... If they have any for the ICS update?
:/

Don't unlock after s-off. You need jb hboot if you want to use flashboot flash commands. Amonra should flash in stock hboot as long its a proper ph98img.zip file. Make sure it wasn't ph98img.zip.zip !
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Thanks everyone... I did end up re-unlocking. I suppose I was more comfortable restoring my backed up data than messing with the hboot.
My zip file was named properly, but still wouldn't flash from hboot for some reason. However, the same file flashed using the console commands (I'd prefer that the phone was self-sufficient for doing these things, but ah well).
Once I had AR Recovery 3.15, I used it to flash the superSU zip file (which was confusingly named "CWM"... Clockwork mod screwed up charging on my phone a while back).
Now I'm rooted, ICS, and all is well.
Thank you everyone.

Via the bootloader.
I'm suprised you're trying to install recovery through fastboot and not through the bootloader. Thats one of the best perks to being S-OFF
From http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98
"Download - Bootloader Method:
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/jewel/PJ75IMG-twrp-2.2.1-jewel.zip
Download the file above and rename to PJ75IMG.zip and place it on the root of the sdcard. Boot into bootloader and accept the update. Boot back to the rom and rename/remove the file"
You can install all sorts of things through bootloader. It has to be on the external SD-card, not the internal one

I was just wondering if anyone was having problems booting into TWRP or Getting SuperSU after gaining S-OFF with DirtyRacun. First off I just wanted to say I followed the directions and DirtyRacun worked flawlessly. But afterward I was having problem booting into recovery. I tried flashing through goo manager and through fast boot. Finally I unlocked through fast boot again using same unlock token as before, and it immediately booted into recovery. I am still a Noob. I only tried this because it didn't say unlocked on the boot loader screen. But it did work.

I did have issues being able to successfully boot into recovery after fastboot flashing TWRP. Using the bootloader (PJ75IMG) method worked fine, though.
Good to know. Like I stated I am a noob. I tried to get help on the irc channel but got stonewalled. I guess the question is considered off topic. After I Re unlocked the boot loader I was able to use a previous nandroid and boot right up. Maybe this will be something that could be added to future releases of Dirty Rancun.

After you do the DirtyRacun process it should not say "unlocked" at the top. It should say "-- Dirty Racun--" or something like that and show s-off.
When I did this process day before yesterday I did the Dirty Racun process, then make sure to boot your phone to the stock rom first. Then you can reboot to the bootloader and fastboot TWRP, then restore your Nandroid.
I had no problem at all except that Dirty Racun would not accept my 2GB card. All I had was a 2GB and 32GB and the 32GB is not supported. Ladyx patched the program and uploaded a new version to the site so that the 2GB would work. After that the process went flawlessly for me.
