I recently upgraded to a Note II from my aging Photon. Rather than just putting it up for sale or just leaving it in a drawer I thought I might repurpose it. So, I'm looking for some creative Suggestions on putting this old hardware to new use. Any ideas guys?

Congrats on the new phone. I'm thinking about upgrading myself. Do you mind if you post some pictures of the 2 phones side by side? I wanted to see how big the phone really is compared to my photon. Thanks!
I went to Verizon and got the note 2. I gave our two photons to our kids. I took most of the apps off of them and left the games.

Buy a cheap obd2 adaptor from Amazon.
Then go to the play store and purchase Torque Pro.
You will now a cheap scantool to fix check engine lights and a really cool automotive datalogger with real-time gauges map view etc...
Use Roam Control to run on Verizon's network.
They will offer to sale you minutes now it's a back up phone.

Root phone get Roam Control from play store (there was a beta version floating around). Roam on Verizon try to make a call you'll get a recorded message on minute packages. I paid $25 for 100 minutes +/- good for a year. I forget the name of the company but they have a web site. I did this on a questionable photon out going calls only. You might have better results. You have to enter a calling card number I found an app that does it automatically.
I keep this in my truck and all so have done what "atroph" posted. It's nice to be able to kill the check engine light ;/)
And now that you can save a map you can have a GPS without wireless service.

I'm liking the first three accessories; Accessories Supported: HDMI Adapter, Wireless Charging , Extended Battery (3.7VDC, 2750mAh)
The accessories listed above with a 1 year contract is tipping me over to the TB side. My two concerns for the TB is the battery life and cellular reception. I have only owned 2 HTC phones; one was the Tilt on the AT&T network (the reception was sub-par) and the second is the Droid Eris (it does have good reception with the new radio).
The Devs have made the Eris into a good viable smartphone for the masses but the screen size is still not to my liking. I want and need more screen size and resolution to make it work well for me.
I have been thinking of waiting for the Bionic to come out and look at the comparison reviews before making the decision. With the 4G tiered plans looming over our heads, I don't know if it's a good idea to wait. Lastly, how is the earthquake and tsunami in Japan going to affect the availability of new phones?
Decisions... decisions... Both of my lines are up for renewal.....

It is still the 32gb card. I called verizon today because I am on the fence between this and the merge (assuming it has an LTE radio and how long it will take to come out?) I'm sick of the D2 and I miss HTC phones, so i'm going to be paying the full lick. I wanted to find out about data pricing and she said it would be the same, with no premium. And "unlimited". I'm kind of afraid to wait because of the tiered pricing coming up and I really don't want to lose unlimited data.
oh, and there's this.

I was in your boat with wanting to wait for the LG or Moto device but after hearing from my buddy on the inside, I ordered the thunderbolt so I could jump on unlimited LTE, Verizon will grandfather your unlimited plan and you'll never have to worry about going over and having to pay more, to me, that was worth it alone, I'll wait 20 months to get a new device for unlimited LTE, even if it's not in your area, more then likely, it will be over the next year or so, but from what I've heard from my buddy, unlimited data is going to be ending in the next weeks, not summer time like some of the tech hubs have been saying, I'm using the ext battery and waiting for a case that'll fit, love the device, will root once custom recoveries are available! Good luck with your choice
Oh and Radio is great in this device, personally I think it's stronger then my incredible not by much but usually where I have one bar I have two and so forth plus lte is a dream, no issues with using hotspots for my Xbox to get on some COD, bandwidth report under options in cod shows 10000kbs, better then my ll DSL at only 515 kbs.

There is no HDMI port on the phone, period. There is a new standard interface for USB->HDMI dual port (called HML), but I know the Thunderbolt doesn't have it. I looked at the port with my own eyes.
I think you and that PDF file are referring to the DLNA->HDMI adapter from HTC:
mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=10802
It will work good for us folks that don't have DLNA tvs, but don't assume you will be able to do Atrix style webtop, mirror display things. DLNA is for streaming video and music, not re-compressing what is on your Android/Thunderbolt screen and sending it via DLNA. Think about the lag on that and overhead to do it. Lack of HDMI, like the Atrix was one of my biggest hangups with the Thunderbolt. I think it was a huge mistake to think DLNA is the future. Webtop, HDMI, MHL, and/or WHDI are! Booooo HTC. But everything else so far is awesome with the Thunderbolt! So cheers HTC!

hmmm... do these units have an HDMI out or is the only way to connect the phone up to my LCD screen is to have a dock or an HDMI hack?
it would be sick if they had an hdmi out and we could run the lapdock screen and extend to a monitor, but then again i bet the graphics hardware does not support this.
but i see that is says comes with 2 USB ports. guessing this would mean we can connect a usb keyboard or mouse? would USB storage sticks be supported?
im curious how the hardware and drivers would behave when connected to the lapdock from these units. does the drivers load to the lapdock or phone or what events take place here?
I hope Motorola sees this post and thinks about the user. hdmi out please.

In a bid to make the new LapDock more useful, the new version also includes a built-in Wi-Fi N radio in order to use it more effectively without relying on the phone’s data connection

Yep...way too expensive for just a "dumb" terminal. Personally I would rather have something I can plug my phone into and turn it into a tablet. Then would have larger touchscreen that can have keyboard/mouse added to it. More functional in my opinion. Guess if I was traveling a lot it would be nice to have.

Working with, repairing and selling both phones I see it as a wash. If someone is looking for a "in your hand" media phone, I push the Epic. It has an attractive screen and media optimizations that the MoPho doesn't have. If someone is looking for "and the kitchen sink" phone, I push the MoPho. It's screen and media playback falls short of the Epic but has amazing expansion capabilities. Granted I avoid iPhones like the plague (sheeple products annoy me) but if the customer can barely understand their hero/moment then I point them towards an iPhone. If I didn't need the MoPho's feature set I would have gone with the Epic.
(Please note that the 3D abomination is not in the above paragraph. That's one POS I will not sell to anybody. Almost every 3D that comes in for service ends up getting replaced.)
I ended up going through 4 evo 3D's before switching to photon. That phone is a POS. HTC really let me down man and I got that sucker on launch day. After the Evo 3D I used a Nexus s for a month which was another plastic POS by Samsung (also garbage). Photon was my first moto android device and they won me over...for now. That said, I agree with the guy above me 100%.

Just random issues Samsung phones usually have. At home I can get a solid 9mb on 4G consistently and her ET maxes out at 4/5mb tops right next to mine. Signal isn't all that great in our home (same problem I had with the nexus s). Phone feels very cheap as compared to the photon or 3D. She likes it but then again she likes whatever phone you put in her hand. I'd say she's not the most tech savvy person out there so she wouldn't know what works etc. I know though...the small issues drive me nuts lol. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the excellent radio moto has in this thing now! Sammy's are known for weak radios just ask the original iPhone 4 owners

if having a phone that lags on its own OS, has a screen that looks like bees painted it with there asses, has very little dev support, no plans of getting ics ota update, and has a return rate of 45% (at my store)... I don't know how u would even think about calling this phone an upgrade over the galaxy s ii.

Motorola hasnt denied any of its latest phones only stated which ones are getting it first for sure. They made this very clear with an official statement. I believe this phone will see ICS q1 2012 same with the epic touch (which is a plastic PIECE OF **** with a nice screen). That's all Samsung phones have going is the screen. And dev support? Who says we don't have any? We have enough dev support; let me guess, you're one of those people who thinks a new rom is when someone takes a base, removes a few apps and adds a theme? (i.e the evo 4G/3D forums). This phone has webtop, kernel devs and a dedicated cm7 dev and others chip in. What else do you need?

Could this be the real reason Wallet doesn't work on the EvoLTE?

This whole payment via a phone is ridiculous. I've commented a few times about it. I was shaking my head when I read a few people was returning phones cause wallet wasn't working. NFC might have a future but the future won't be in payments. I'm just glad I used up my $10.

I felt the same way when I first heard about it. After seeing it and using it I have to say that I feel very differently about it. It's a cool idea and very convenient to have all your coupons and loyalty cards in there and automatically applied as you make your purchase. That being said, Isis is the system that will probably win out in the end.

Sprints mobile payment is listed in the sprint zone app but when you tap it it just loops into page it never finds. Seems like it's a place holder for now.
My phone is rooted unlocked and when I open google wallet it initializes sets up my account but says I have to enable nfc to continue. It's already enabled so I can't get past that part. I really wanted that 10 bucks...

Im not rooted atm, but I had this same problem when it WAS working right for the LTE. Im sure you already tried it, but simply powering off the phone, and turning it back on allowed me to enable NFC and Android Beam properly.

now will ISIS need any other special hardware? If it wins, will us sprint people be able to use it?
I just downloaded the app, added all my card info and seems like it is active...
Also received this text from sprint:
"SprintMW- Congratulations! You've created a Wallet Account, you can use this wallet at Scentiments "
Only downside I see its limited to only a few retailers...

I'm using a Verizon note 2 rooted running liquid smooth v2.9 and the area in which I live is pretty much a dead zone. I was wondering if anyone know of something I could flash/download/install that would give me better signal at my house? Thanks guys!

Oh okay, that's basically like the AIRAVE for sprint. A friend of mine used to have one before he switched to verizon. And you're right, they are pricy. $249.99. But it may be something I need to invest in. Thanks for the help much appreciated!

If you complain enough they might give you one free to lease, the only problem is that you are 100 responsible for it.

Hi,
I bought 2 of them for family and it's working great in fact one of them disconnected their landline phone since it wasn't needed anymore. They work alot better than the old days. Just a heads up. I recommend at least having cable modem speed not dsl. Otherwise it will affect signal quality. It also has a small piece that is for gps so it will need a window for sky view capability. It comes with an extension wire so the main unit can stay near the modem while the gps sensor is near the window.
Thanks,
Bryan
Have you tried flashing different radios?
I haven't tried different radios I've only flashed a couple of custom kernels. But I will most definitely search for radios. Thanks!
