Hey guys, please forgive me for this dumb thread, but I honestly can't figure this out.
Im trying to update my friends Xperia x10 (x10a) from Android 1.6 to Android 2.1...without rooting the phone (she doesn't need or want root access). I tried doing it officially through the SE site using PC Companion, but the PC Companion program keeps giving me an error and I am not able to get it updated. I'm really unfamilliar with SE phones (all I've ever had was Samsung), so can anyone please give me step by step on how to update the phone to 2.1 without rooting (hopefully without using PC Companion)?
Thank you very much in advance.
The following link is stickied at the top of this forum. It's so easy that a noob, like me could do it (4 different phones without a glitch).

The post above forgot the link for the program of flashtool itself, so here it is:

The guide in the post above will help you with the program I posted.
Thank you both
Friends..I have X10a AT&T unlocked phone..running on Android 2.1 - 2.1.A.0.492...I also want to update the phone to android 2.3..I am a newbie and dont know any of the techniques..if you can help me step by step process through which i can also enjoy Android 2.3 experience..I dont know what is flashing, rooting and all those technical words..please help me..
Since AT&T wont be releasing 2.3.3 for x10 you will need to flash it, follow these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
If you want to update better start learning all those technical stuff it's not that hard c'mon, start with Flashtools, there's a how-to guide for begginers at the top of the forum.
well, I allready got my xperia mini pro rooted but with firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 and android 2.3.4 GB. It's a brand free new phone, I haven't even inserted a SIM since I received it yesterday, I'm still waiting for my SIM. I've only downgraded the firmware & rooted the SO, nothing else (the only new change is the adition of superuser after rooting)
I'd like to know the steps I have to follow from this point to install a rooted android 4 ICS , if there is any good guide to lead me..
Thanks
EDIT: finished...simpler than I thought

I'd like to root an xperia mini pro SK17i with android 2.3.4 and firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62. It's a free phone (not attached to any company)
I¡ve been looking around, but most tutorials are obsolete.
which guide should I follow?
Thanks

You have to downgrade to a rootable version using Flashtool, then root it using DooMLoRD's method. THIS tutorial is absolutely not obsolete... and it's sticked in the first page of the forum
I got confused
thanks for your reply
I saw it before, but I was confused in beginning, it seems there's a msitake:
when it says "NOTE: If you have newer firmware(4.0.2.A.0.62 or 4.0.2.A.0.69), check tutorial 3 first to downgrade your firmware"
should say "...check tutorial 4" That silly thing made me think that the whole tutorial was wrong or obsolete, cause both points have nothing to do with each other.
Thanks for your help, I'm gonna try it
PD: do I need a SIM card in any step of the whole prcess?
No. I don't think you'll need a sim

Hello there,
I recently bought an LG p700 which had android 4.0 installed. I did some research and found out that downgrading to 2.3 would be better for performance and battery life. So I am asking you:
How can I downgrade to 2.3? I don't really know much about smartphones so a basic step to step guide would be awesome.
Thanks
