[Q] Ringtones & Notifications - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Please forgive if this is covered...
after a search I was not able to find a solution very quickly.
Completely stock phone... just replaced today due to the original not always receiving my touch input.
I have a few ringtones and notifications that I have used for all my phones... if anything else is used I just don't hear it; I simply think it is not my phone. In the past all I have done is create two folders, "notifications" and "ringtones" with the mp3 files contained within. It has been long enough that I do not remember if I left these folders on "sdcard2", moved them to "sdcard", or to the phones internal storage.
I have the folders containing the mp3's on "sdcard2" and "sdcard"... whenever I try to move it to internal storage (system > media > audio > notifications) I get an error that states I cannot do that... and still no option for these ringtones or notifications when attempting to alter the settings under profile > sounds.
I am using File Expert while attempting to perform this task.
What has changed... or am I doing something wrong??

You should root your phone and make sure to mount your internal memory or external sdcard as r/w or read/write. I personally use root explorer as its a rock solid file explorer that allows you to set r/o read only or r/w read/write quite easily.

I am not comfortable rooting my phone.
I have done this in the past (with my last EVO LTE even) without rooting... I should be able to do it again.
Thanks for the suggestion.... it is appreciated.

I installed an app called "Zedge" and it seems to have worked around the issue... I have ringtones and notifications that sound similar to what I am used to.
I am still puzzled as to why folders on the SD card labeled "notifications" and "ringtones" all of sudden are not recognized...

my ringtones and notifications change. Not even to the same ones every time???????

hello,
please help..
my ringtones and notifications change. Not even to the same ones every time its just completely random what they change to....
please help.
When does it happen? Does it happen right after you had it hooked up to your computer? If so are you "safely removing the USB" device from windows? And letting the phone mount all the internal memory and storage??
it's a known issue and will happen at random for custom ringtones placed on either the internal SD or external SD. quite annoying and it seems like it's an general Android thing. The only surefire way to fix it is to root and place your custom ringtones/notifications in /system/media/audio/ringtones and /system/media/audio/notifications . Use adb to move the files or get Root Explorer to move the files from your phone.
TKS A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Q] SGS III - ext. SDCard suddenly ReadOnly

Today I found - after trying to make a foto - that my SDCard doesn't seem to be not accessibl anymore - at least the cam app says this. After some ivestigation I found out that the SD is still accessible but all files and folders are in read-only mode. I checked the perms with ESFileExplorer and found no hint why (775 was set correctly) however the properties dialog of differnt file managers always says read-only. I tried to access, remove and create files/folders via pc o that card (format FAT32) w/o any problems. So I made a backup and format the card within the phone and what shall I say - it seems to work again.
Does anybody have an idea what this may have caused?
SGS III + JB 4.1.2 I9300XXELL5_I9300VFGELL1_VD2 + XXELL5_JKay_Deluxe_Stock_v14_5_4 + rooted with SGS Toolkit
Thanks a lot!!!
BTW: I used the search function already but I did not find an explainantion which matches fully to my problem
Possibly found a reason
Hm, may have found 2 possible reasons for that behaviour:
- SolidExplorer (strange behviour as after start of it a lot of files partly w/o filname (only . or @ or y) are displayed, partly not visible in other file managers and after some time I can't delete/change no file on that card anymore)
- Too high value vor SDBooster (used 1024 now reduced to 512) - but for my understanding this should not be the reason as it was working for a long time w/o problems.
Will investigate later and will inform about the outcome...
Help on this thread please.
Same problem here.. My torrents, my camera, sms backup and restore, titanium backup, everything else specially those i set as daily scheduled activities always end up having unsuccessful results..
The problem can be worked around by unmounting->re-mounting sd-card..... every 5 minutes or so...
HELP!!
format it
Why didn't I think of that in the first place? Geez..
So anyone here who really understands the problem?
Note(2)worthy response using Tapatalk HD.
I have exactly the same issue as you, at the very beginning, i notice this problem when i was taking photo and said my sdcard is not accessible, it then changes to use internal storage.
Let me list out my symptom and solution:
Symptom:
1. The sdcard looks fine, no special error thrown during android startup.
2. Just after startup, i am able to write file /copy file to the external sdcard
3. After a while, the external sdcard becomes read only. I can view/copy files from sd card, but not write/copy file to the external sdcard.
4. No apps can modify the files in external sdcard
5. By using ADB shell, type mount, and you will notice the /extSdCard is mounted as "ro", which means read only.
Description:
If you have the above symptom, your external sdcard probably have some problems...
When I was checking the mount details on step 5, i noticed that the default options is onerrors=remount-ro , it looks like the external sdcared is remounted as read-only because it has problem on external sdcard....
Solution:
I put the external sdcard to a Windows PC, and run scan disk (right click the drive >"properties" > "tools" > Check Now).
It really find problem on the FAT of the external sd card!!! It fix automatically and my external sd card is working fine now.
In my case, it doesn't need to root or format the sdcard.
Good luck!

Losing ringtones or notifications?

For those who have been losing ringtones/notifications (or having them not play sound), I have worked out the possible cause and a fix. In my case I tried CyanogenMod 10.1 which caused me to lose the contents of my Micro SD card. Using ES File Explorer, I found there was not only a file system for the SD-Card and External SD-Card, but a whole lot of other directories labelled USB A, B, C and so on. Using ES File Explorer with root privileges, I deleted the new directories and voila, my ringtones and notifications are no longer reverting to stock or muting when the phone rings. This was extremely frustrating for me, so I hope it helps someone else.

The problem is fixed when the phone is operating off battery, but the ringtones revert to stock or 'unknown' every morning when I take the phone off the charger. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this problem too? Next step is to copy tones to system/media/audio folder.

[Q] what folder to put new ringtones into???

Regarding Android Jelly Bean version and my Verizon S4 (sch-i545)...
I know that the native folder location for ringtones, alerts, and notifications is at /system/media/audio
But, where can I create a folder on the sdcard (or ext_sdcard) to add my own ringtones?
I've created and moved mp3's into the following folder structures, rebooted and still don't see them when I try to add new ringtones:
\sdcard\media\audio\ringtones
\sdcard\media\ringtones
\sdcard\ringtones
None of the 3 above folder structures work. Anyone have an idea or do I have to move mp3 files into the /system location?
The stock ringtones are in /system/media/audio/ringtones ... I've been putting my files there but you need root explorer
\mnt\extSdCard\Alarms
\mnt\extSdCard\Notifications
\mnt\extSdCard\Ringtones
Those are 3 folders that work off of the external SD Card. Obviously if you're just looking for a place for a ringtone and don't care about alarms or notifications then just disregard the first 2.
I prefer the external SD Card so that my custom sounds can be carried over between ROM installations without a backup.

So I discovered what you responded above at the same time.
My problem was that I kept looking at the extSdCard as an external SD card. Therefore I was trying everything at the \mnt\sdcard level
When I finally stumbled onto the fact that if I put the files in the respective folders on the folder structure you listed above, then it works.
Again, my confusion is that I thought everthing needed to be placed at the root of scard.
Seems weird to me but I think the S4 looks at the external SD card as "sd card"

I think that TW on the S4 does something funky with what it calls sdcard where it's actually an emulated partition rather than a true file path like on other phones or variations of Android. Whenever you pull up default storage locations of app data and the like, it always shows up as something like: /storage/emulated/0...
For me, extSdCard is definitely my 64GB SD card that I put in myself. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can take it from here. This is my first Android phone from Samsung, and by extension my first experience with TW.
I noticed the same thing (storage/emulated/0/ ) confused the crap out of me at first. I would download files and had no idea where they ended up.

Yeah, I've been trying to research the SDcard vs. ExtSDcard differences. It seems to me like it's different from what I remember. I'd also appreciate any insight anyone has on this. I totally am not (yet) getting the emulated partition. When I go hunt for stuff, I use root explorer to go to \mnt\sdcard and don't start with the emulated partition. There doesn't seem to be much explanation out there so far as I can tell.

[Q] Location of Ringtones, Alarms, Notifications on Internal Memory?

Can anyone please tell me where to copy Alarms, Ringtones and Notification tones on the GS4 Internal memory?
On my GS3 I always put them on the Internal memory under "media\audio" with subfolders for "ringtones", "alarms", and "notifications". After a reboot the phone detected them fine.
But of course, when I copy them to the same location on the GS4 the phone does not see them, even after a reboot.
I used to just leave them on the sdcard, but I won't do that anymore because if you remove the sdcard at some point, all your custom set tones get reverted back to defaults.

What type of file do you use? And what ROM?
Cause I do exactly what you did - and have everything working.
I finally got it working.
I deleted the files and copied them again and restarted the phone a few times, and they showed up.
Annoying that it didn't just work the first time, even though I did the identical procedure!
