So I am wanting to root my active. Thing is, it has the .62 firmware. I need to downgrade to .42 to gain root. I have a ST17A model, and all I am finding is the .42 firmware for the ST17I model..
My question is can I use the .42 firmware for the ST17I model to downgrade my ST17A model?
Thanks in advance.

It should work, because i/a are the same, the a model is for the usa/etc and the i for europe/etc (as far as I know), but maybe you can find a rom for st17a
As far as I know, the difference lies in the range of gsm frequencies they use in America and rest of the world. . . You might want to check if your career supports the "i" model's frequencies before flashing the "i" firmware in. . . .

Just got a new SK17a I want to root. A big thank you to DoomLord and everyone else over in this thread.
DoomLord indicates here that his root solution will work on an SK17a. The firmware file linked to is for an SK17i. (Build 4.0.A.2.368.) Will flashing that file onto an SK17a affect the basebands? Will the US basebands work with that firmware?
Version info from my SK17a:
Baseband version: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-20302203-30
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-perf ([email protected] #1)
Build number: 4.0.A.2.335
Sorry this is a separate thread, have new account and can't post in dev threads.
hi my friends, i am from Australia and i am interested in buying the sk17a as Vodafone launched new 850 network for faster internet and i was wondering if its possible to root it and unlock the bootloader as the sk17i, and what advantages or disadvantages it haves from sk17i.
thanks

It is a stock firmware. Besides loosing DRM after rooting there should be no difference regarding connections. This is no custom firmware. But I can't promise
edit: ups.. SK17a .. sorry overread that.. must inform what that might be first.. never came across that sk17a

Welcome in the world of Xperia
Your questions should be answered here
hth poedel
this model had electronic noise problem.....
And there are differences about the gsm bands. As far as I unterdstood the a version is for some American Bands like from bell that ride on a different frequency. SK17a seems to bo Quadband, without a got only 3 and the i version looks like the european. I could be wrong, but besides the gsm bands I could not find any differences in the models.
I personally would test that but this is no advice.
If you keep volume up pressed while plugging the usb cable into your usb port of the PC the LED should light up blue. That's fastboot. From here you can always flash using fastbood command. No risk - no fun *selfslap*

Except I just found out that my Carrier (Telstra in Australia) is decomissioning UMTS HSPA 2100 (Band I) and moving to UMTS 850 (Band V).
Is it possible to "flash" the modem in order to enable this band on this device, or is the hardware different.
I have searched the forum and I believe I need to replace the dsp1.sin file with the one from the ST18a but I am not sure how to do this, or if it will even work?
Any help would be greatly apreciated... thanks.
SK17a ?? OMG, how is it different from SK17i ? Is this the fixed version without electrostatic sound that users complained ?

Anyone root an sk17a?? Will the sk17i files work without messing up the bands?
So when you say messing up the bands, if you flash st18a firmware on an st18i phone or visa versa does it actually enable the st18a region set of bands or does it just stop the modem from working at all?
That's what i wanna know. most files on here seem to say sk17i instead of "a" so im not sure if i should try them.

Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but did you ever find an answer to this? I have an ST18a, and with newer basebands now available for the ST18i (and only the ST18i), I'm wondering if I can flash them without losing the 850 and 1900 bands (or for the benefit of gaining the 900 band when I'm in Europe).
Hello!
I've searched many threads with usefull information through XDA forums, but some say that it is absolutely necessary that the phone should be unlocked, some say I cam update firmware even if it is unlocked.
I don't want to brick the phone, that's why I'm asking again...so, please, tell me which option should I choose.
Thank you in advance...
Your phone doesn't need to be unlocked to update the firmware
as above, the phone doesn't need to be unlocked.
However, if your phone is using branded carrier firmware, you can not update to a newer generic firmware and must wait for your carrier to release the updated version.
If your phone is running generic firmware, then you can just update to newer generic firmware no probs.

Thanks! You mean that if my phone is on Vodafone RO, I can upgrade only with a Vodafone RO firmware?! If I try to put a non-branded firmware will not work?
Thank you...

After flashing a non branded firmware I will be able to use SIM cards from other carriers?

Hi
Anyone know where to find stock firmware for Xperia sola for Baltic region (Latvia)? Doesn't matter 2.3 or 4.0 Android.
The thing is week after going back to stock firmware (don't know what region, definitely not Baltic) from some custom roms my microphone stopped working. Phone now is not rooted and bootloader was never unlocked, so there shouldn't be any problems with warranty if I can find anywhere stock firmware for Baltic region, but unfortunately so far - no luck.
As much as i know you must use Central Europe version, right?

Hello!
Today I get my Xperia Z2 branded by T-Mobile in Poland. I want to root without voiding my guaranty. I have FW 23.0.1.A.0.167 running Android 4.4.4. I'm know that i have to downgrade my firmware, but I can't find matching firmware for my device and brand. I've searched in this topic of course -
[FTF] STOCK FIRMWARES for Xperia Z2/Z2a (D65x3/D6502/SO-03F) [20141116]
Can somebody help me?
Greetings from Poland!
May I downgrade from 23.0.1.A.0.167 (4.4.4 update) to 17.1.2.A.0.314 Germany - unbranded - 1281-4640? Is that won't brick my device?

You can downgrade to any ftf until its for your model. you might want to try and use xperifirm for ftf download though. you might find your phone's ftf.
