First a little background.
I am rooted with permanent s-off
For the 1.70.xx, 2.10.xx, 2.11.xx RUU's I have extracted the rom.zip from the exe
then opened it up and replaced the recovery.img with clockwork recovery.img
then flashed and installed busybox.
this has worked great for me.
my question is can I remove or replace the boot.img and recovery.img in the 1.12 and 1.05 RUU's and keep root? I've read in the forums there is some issue particularly with versions prior to 1.12.xx that appear to be related to the boot.img.
Also does anyone know what the "Official" release versions were up to 1.70.xx?
Im doing some research on the visual changes between versions and want to go back to the very first day 1 release and work up through each of the "Official" OTA releases.
Thanks,
John
Release firmware: 1.12.605.6
MR1 (first OTA): 1.13.605.7
MR2 (second OTA) 1.70.605.0
Edit: I would steer clear of builds prior to the release firmware per JCase's warning thread. If you are using the hard patched hboot (either manually applied or from using Revolutionary) it may not be an issue but just to be on the safe side I would avoid it. They are just extremely buggy pre-release firmware anyway.

Thanks for the info.
So the 1.05.xx firmware was never released then?

Nope 1.12.605.6 is the oldest that came on shipping models. (I.E. not dev/test phones.)

I've searched and can't seem to find the definitive answer. Is 3.11.605.22 the latest ICS RUU?
Also, being less than familiar with HTC, is installing the latest ICS RUU what I have to do to get on the latest radios? That seems to be the case, but I want to verify.
Thanks in advance.

The "latest" leaked RUU is: 3.14.605.10 There is a .12 ROM around but I don't think the RUU ever got posted. It said to contain only a couple minor changes. You can get the .10 in the 3rd post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757357 They have the current radios.
Your bootloader should be locked.
Thanks.
One more quick question...I noticed there isn't a version of controlbear for 3.14.605.10 on the juopunutbear website. Will one of the other versions work, or do I need to do that while I'm still on GB?

Use the one for 3.14.605.5 ... the hboot and radios are the same as in .10 .:good:
An OTA patch has been released for Virgin Mobile Evo V users that includes updated firmware and ICS software. I've added a post in my QADERSO guide thread with more information and a link to the update, and would appreciate feedback from any Evo V users that try it so I can decide whether or not to include it as part of that guide.

FWIW, here is my update experience:
I had TWRP recovery on stock VM ICS rom (Odexed), and S-OFF, and the update would error out with some nonsense about DefaultContainerService.apk hashes not matching up (for its respective patch).
Flashed the RUU (which got rid of TWRP), then applied the update successfully. Still S-OFF, which is good. I have a feeling that TWRP and the update dont play nice, and it doesn't matter if you are S-OFF and Rooted, so long as you have the stock HTC recovery... so that might be a helpful note to someone.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, the OTA updates won't install properly without the stock recovery even when they are flashed from the bootloader with S-OFF.
Did you notice any improvement in network connectivity and performance? My understanding is that the primary purpose of this update was to address radio performance with new firmware that was previously being patched with pieces of the Evo 3D firmware.
ramjet73
Well, not really much difference for me so far. I always got full bars at home, and always bearly any signal at work, and this didn't change that. I *very* rarely got the radio interface shortage error when sending a text (most often if I was in a poor signal area), and rarely had a problem where a call would not go out (it would just sit there, but a toggle of airplane or a reboot of phone would fix it). Thusfar, I have not seen these issues, but I have not used my phone much since the update.
Another thing to note in your guide, the stock VM firmware, even with the new update, does not appear to have the latest Adreno drivers. Here is a before/after of a clean, stock VM rom with literally no other apps installed besides Quadrant:

Patch for problem with 3g
Hi ramjet...I am a noob that has just rooted and flashed my evo v on the virgin mobile network. I see you in many threads pertaining to the evo 3d and seem very knowledgeable on the subject. First off I'd like to thank you for your help downgrading my hboot. Your provided links made it much easier when flashing 4.1.2. But when installing jellybean, 3g runs extremely slow or not at all. My speed test run at 20-50k a sec download (usually 800-1200k) and 900k-1100k upload (same as usual). 4g works find when available. Here are my specs from the bootloader
Shooter xc eng s-off rl

Radio 1.0600.0426

Have you seen a patch or fix for this? do I need to update my radio? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am on CyanogenMod 10 Gangnam style rom.
Thanks,

The OTA update that was released for Virgin Mobile users includes firmware that is supposed to improve radio performance. Based on what I have seen from other VM users that have installed it, the new "Baseband version" is 1.09.00.0706, which matches the firmware level for the Sprint ICS (2.89.651.2) build so I suspect they are just pushing that firmware to VM users.
The firmware only zip can be downloaded from this post and flashed from the bootloader as PG86IMG.zip in the root of your SD card since you are S-OFF. If that doesn't resolve your issues I would suggest going through the procedure in the post I linked from the OP to install the complete OTA update, then rooting again.
Note to other users: Do not flash that version of firmware if your phone is not a Virgin Mobile Evo V 4G.
ramjet73
Thank you so much for the fast response. I tried the firmware upgrade..still no change in speed. I will try the complete ota update and root again.
jeff
FWIW: On 3G I am getting ~2mbit down, ~768k up, ~83ms ping as per speedtest.net (tested via tethered laptop using phone as wi-fi hotspot). So this radio seems good, but I have nothing to compare it against because I never bothered to test the speed before.

Hi!
I have a simple phone that makes me happy. Evo 4G V running stock except it's rooted so I cane use it occassionally as a hotspot.
Does accepting the recent OTA update lose root? if so, can I re-root it using the same method as the first time?
I didn't see a thread on this in particular but if there is one please drop me a link.
Thanks in advance.

Installing the OTA update requires the stock recovery and it applies patches to the stock ROM so the best way to get the update for S-ON users is to relock the bootloader, flash the 1.13.652.2 RUU.exe, download and install the OTA, then unlock again with the same token and root by flashing a custom recovery from fastboot and a superuser zip for the recovery.
If you are completely stock it might be possible to flash the stock recovery from fastboot and apply the OTA, but that would probably require relocking the bootloader anyway since firmware updates are included in the OTA.
Don't forget to backup everything (nandroid and TB recommended) before flashing the RUU.exe since it will reset all your partitions except for those on the SD card. You should be able to do an advanced restore from your nandroid in 4EXT recovery of only the data partition to get your apps and settings back after rooting again. The software patches installed by the OTA only affect the system partition.

Main Version (mainver) changed with Virgin Mobile OTA
To make a long story short, the main version (mainver) was changed in the firmware update zip file flashed as part of the Virgin Mobile (VM) OTA update so if that's installed your mainver will be changed from 1.13.652.2 to 1.14.652.0. That's not a big deal for S-OFF users but it will prevent S-ON users from flashing the original 1.13.652.2 RUU. See this post for more detail and a link to my original VM OTA post which contains a workaround to flash the RUU if you are S-ON.

I'm not sure since I don't know what was done to flash it to Virgin Mobile. If the RUU.exe was used to do that, it shouldn't hurt to do it again, then flash the OTA.

Needed update
I downgraded my phone to hboot 1.40 so I could install a new ROM. After the downgrade and original ROM reload (Negalite is the best), my calls would not go through.
I installed the update file and my radio went from 1.06 to 1.09 and I was able to make reliable calls again. Nothing else was affected, and I'm very happy Ramjet made this available.

Newer compared to what? The only RUU I'm aware of that was circulated was the upgrade to 4.13.651.3, which this one does as well.
FW: 4.13.651.3
Radio: 1.13.11.1105
PRI: 3.02_003
PRL: 25007 (my phone is 25017)

That "Official" link you have is the 3.17.651.4 firmware, which is old layout from a while back. The "Newer" one is the 4.13.651.3. It's not really "officially" released AFAIK. Might want to clean up those links so people don't try to download the "Official" RUU and end up downgrading.

The RUU they were referring to is the one for Android 4.3 Sense 5. The one you posted is actually several months old now. I believe the OP was looking for a mirror to the Android 4.3 RUU because they were getting a bad download.

Yes I know SilverZero was referring to the new [NOT OFFICIAL] 4.3, which, btw, I added to the jewel's wiki page, because apparently nobody had the time to, but where do you get the idea the OP is trying to RUU to the new unsupported RUU, and not the latest officially supported software? He mentions that absolutely nowhere in his post. Excuse me if I'm wrong, though.
[side note, before I posted the latest RUU on the wiki pointed to the one I mirrored in my post, so.. yeah. and I don't even check the forums that often, so how was I supposed to know there was a new sense rom?]

Perfect.
Unlock your bootlooader if you haven't already, fastboot flash recovery (TWRP/PHILZ),root using the chosen custom recovery, make a backup before or after root.
Go here http://theroot.ninja/ for Sunshine
S-OFF cause that's what your going to need to update as far as 4.4.4
Orrrr just wait a few days for the ATT 4.4.4 build to be released (ETA 29th) and then youll have 4.4.4 without having to do anything.

That's a better idea for sure.
I haven't noticed if Sunshine has an update that works with 4.4.4 yet.
Are you S-OFF ?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of S-OFF so the OP knows what he might be missing.
Do you know when the Sunshine update will be?
Yup,no [email protected],[email protected],there are plenty of posts about advantages and disadvantages...my point of view is simple,it is not needed for the novice, ive seen too many mess things due to lack of knowledge. My usage of it is for switching between att and developer ROM's to get latest updates. Outside of that I dont mess with conversions,to risky for a 6-700 device. My advice is stick to htc dev unlocked bootloader and wait for official update.

I didn't Google for to long but I haven't found concrete links that state the exact date .how many times have we been promised a date and watch it pass by anyways.
May I ask if you've modified any other device before this one?
I'm not trying to push, but S-OFF might be in your future and will not halt an OTA from installing.
The version your on is easily exploitable using "Sunshine" unless you take the soon to be 4.4.4 update.
Nobody knows when Sunshine will have an update even with the team working on it as we speak.
Wont be much on Google @date,came from somewhere else. And nothing is ever "concrete" with software, especially with carrier branded software.

I'd say wait till tomorrow to see if an OTA update will roll out.
Or if you just can't wait for the ability to flash what you desire than I would go S-OFF and flash a non At&t firmware that you need to allow a smooth function of mentioned ROM.
Im restoring back to default AT&T ROM and such and will post weather the update has been pushed or not. i sure hope it has

Correct .
S-OFF allows you to change your CID witch will allow you to ruu Dev Edition 4.4.4 so everything runs smoothly
I've not looked on this thread in a while. I am S-off and unlocked and my cid is 11111111 but I have never updated firmware so that I can run a 4.4.4 rom. Is it correct that I flash a RUU (guess it's not called flashing when it comes to a RUU). Will I loose root or anything (other than wiping my data) when running the ruu.

I'll just say that if it's a stock ruu than it's most likely without root and it will wipe as if it came out of the box.if its a full ruu than it will come with the updated firmware as well witch should allow you to flash 4.4.4 Roms and still run smoothly.
What I did around 5:00am this morning was restore my Dev edition backup I had along with the stock recovery so I could take the Dev edition lollipop official update and now I have lollipop firmware to use with my stock GPE 5.0.1 lollipop ROM/backup .
Sweetness

I've not looked on this thread in a while. I am S-off and unlocked and my cid is 11111111 but I have never updated firmware so that I can run a 4.4.4 rom. Is it correct that I flash a RUU (guess it's not called flashing when it comes to a RUU). Yes, running/flashing the 4.4.4 Dev Edition RUU will update you to that appropriate firmware. But, what you linked is not Dev Edition, its a stock AT&T RUU. And its not 4.4.4 either, its 4.4.2, which is probably where you already are.
What you want is the 3.28.1540 RUU linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ruu-m8-developer-edition-sense-1-54-t2884777
RUU will wipe the phone, install stock ROM (meaning root will be lost) and stock recovery.
But I also think its overkill to run an RUU just to update firmware, if that is the intent. My suggestion is to just run the firmware linked in the following post (which also has great instructions for doing so): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
The above method shouldn't overwrite the current ROM and user data. But backup anything important before flashing firmware, just in case.
Side note, "flash" is a fairly generic term, and as the RUU flashes stock ROM among other things, the term "flash" is appropriate IMO.
So can I just load the firmware file and flash thru fastboot? Is it This one?
3.28.1540.5 Firmware only unmodified (Latest 4.4.4 Update,S-OFF REQUIRED)
