check out ringtone maker from play store. take sound files on your phone and edit them as you please.
Zedge also offers thousands.
Just serach the market for any app that you can download music from and also there are apps that will allow you to crop songs to make your own ringtones. Or search the web for them as well.
What ever happened to the days of normal ringtones and notification beeps? I want my phone to sound like a normal phone and I have to jump through hoops to get it. Smh

I found the old phones with that bell ring annoying. Though I use Archer's ringtone so I guess mine isn't any better.

just wondering peoples' views on this! what are your favorite Ringtones? Notifications? Alarms? do you use MP3's or do you use stock? do you download them? use Zedge?? From all the roms that you've been through what is your favorite ringtone set?
I have to believe that this is completely subjective, but I used Garageband to pull a 30-ish second sample from the Eric Clapton song "Signe" and saved it as an MP3, which I use as my ringtone. I use Vector as my calendar notification, Ascend as my default notification (though those may be reversed...), and I grabbed the "New Mail" sound from Apple's Mail.app, converted it to MP3, and use that as the new mail sound in gmail - so every device that I have uses the same ringtone to tell me that I have a new mail message. That makes things much easier for me.
Those are the only ones that I use.
I use Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles for my ringtone, and I use the Xbox 360 Achievement Unlocked tone as my notification tone.

Good idea/choice for The Beatles "Here Comes the Sun"!
I ripped and edited from original CDs/downloads mostly instrumental portions of three songs:
1. From The Crow soundtrack, "After the Flesh" by My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - for an upbeat mood, and specifically for people who I WANT to definitely hear from.
2. From the song used as the theme to "House M.D.", "Teardrop" by Massive Attack - for people I'll take calls from depending on my mood.
3. From one of my all-time cult favorites, and also one of my favorite music videos by Planet P Project "Why Me" - for people I usually do NOT want to hear from.
Oh, and I use the high-quality version of "DROID!" as my notification tone.
another one here using the "droid" as a notification.
I have a bunch of different notifications and ringtones that I use to aurally identify people without having to go to the phone or physically look at it to know who's calling...
Family members get something star wars, like my parents and mother-in-law have the Imperial March as their ringtone, and my wife has the Mos Eisley cantina band song...
Friends of mine usually get something from a Tool song or a Dethklok song.
Some of my other notifications are from Big Lebowski "this aggression will not stand, man" or Grandmas Boy "your bed is a car. yeah, but its a ****ing sweet car"...
Gotta love ringdroid for making your own tones!

I'm really liking that theme idea! I could see myself using either Star Wars OR The Big Lebowski as a theme.
I use RCP also. Right now my main ringer is the Angry Birds theme, puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.

Wow. Nice necro of a forum thread that hasn't had activity in over 10 years, and in a section for a phone that came out roughly 12 years ago.
I like Over the Horizon by Samsung and Nokia Tune Remix by Nokia
On my Droid X, when I was streaming music via Bluetooth to my car stereo and using Google Navigation, when the girl came on to update my directions, the music would pause temporarily and allow the directions to be heard clearly. On my EVO, I just get a jumbled mess that sounds like she is talking underwater while the music plays. I'm using Poweramp and I really like it (been a fan since the first week I owned the DX) and would prefer not to switch, but I will if that's the issue.
Any suggestions or settings I should try to fiddle with?
Thanks in advance for any help!

i know what you mean but you should be able to clearly hear the navigation over the music. my OG evo would pause the music while the navigator spoke, now it just lowers the volume of the music by a lot and the navigator speaks over the music. i would say if the music is not lowering for you then try a different music app, if you have the same issue, then try a factory reset, or flash a different rom, if you do a factory reset then make sure to clear your google wallet settings.
It was PowerAmp...sucks, because I really like it and I don't really feel like paying for another music player, but the stock "Music" UI sucks and the widget is garbage.
Try WinAmp, it is a great music player. Granted I don't know if you will have the same problem or not but it is free so give it a shot.

It's power amp.. As much as I love it I had to stop using it for this very reason. Went back to stock app and I actually kind of like it.

Thanks for the heads up. I was about to buy it too, but that's a deal breaker for me too. Have you emailed the developer?

Ive been suffering of the same issue for some time now and I just emailed the developer about it. I love poweramp too and I would hate giving it up for anything else.
But, has anyone tried winamp? Those that have, can you provide feedback?

Headed to work, gonna give WinAmp a shot. I'll report back tomorrow.
WinAmp works fine, UI is decent, couldn't find any skins in the Play Store. Anybody tried PlayPro?
Poweramp just got an update this am, ill be heading back on post later today and will test if any improvements were made in that are.

just tried PlayerPro.
A decent group of free skins, widgets and a Digital Sound Processor (equalizer). I keep my music files pretty basic, Artist name and genre...no cover art, album title, track number...etc. PlayerPro added "artwork" based on this small amount of info. Pretty cool.
The only downside verses WinAmp and the stock Music app is the PlayerPro only "quiets" the music for Nav, it doesn't silence it.
Since I'm playing Guinea Pig, any other music players anyone is curious about?

I got that update too...while I was at work and I forgot about it until now...gonna go give it a test.
EDIT: Got caught up by the post-time-limit...tested, doesn't sound "jumbled", but doesn't "quiet" or pause the music...still no help.
I had the same problem with the same combo love poweramp its my only paid app I clicked off beats and viola clear as a bell. The music lowers volume then the directions are spoken and the music returns to normal volume. So if you love poweramp just shut off beats when using navigation

Have you checked your PowerAmp settings?
Go to Settings -> Audio -> Audio Focus.
Make sure both Short Audio Focus Change and Permanent Audio Focus Change is checked. I believe it should be on by default but I've noticed in some cases whenever I flash a new ROM on my original EVO, it's not checked by default and I've had to enable it.
RobertBohannon and wolfpack15, I will give them both a try and see what happens.
Update on PlayerPro and WinAmp:
PlayerPro does the same as PowerAmp, it's just not as severely distorted.
WinAmp is almost perfect, but my head unit will only control track selection if the app is open and on screen.

I want to do this to slender man for android so i can listen to the soundtrack from the pc game
i think an app like this is possible to make but i browsed google play store and haven't found one, hopefully in the future some dev will make this kind of app
in the meantime what you can do is mute the whole system volume and use a different device to play music
also email the game's dev tell them to add an option to mute the sound
This would take care of your issue:

Doesn't work on Android 7.1.2 :/
Hmm, so no dice on this for Nougat? I would love to mute a game that always starts with the volume up. I can change the volume in the game, but only after a lengthy, loud intro, and it resets the volume the next time I play it...
Anyone found solution?
Solution (for Samsung Phones)
If you happen to be on a Samsung phone, there is an app called "Sound Assistant" which is excellent - adding volume sliders for whatever individual apps you like.
Samsung wastes a lot of money and frustrate a lot of people customizing & bloating Android, but this *optional* app is great and should be mimicked by Google into base Android!
Nope no solution for this problem
Hmm, still nothing?
Maybe try using something like VMos and running the app in there and disabling sound
I have a GS3, and i really like the software so i don't want to install CM10 or 9 just to get this feature. I'm currently using poweramp. is there anyways i can change songs with the volume buttons?

I am not sure if that is possible with any app if the rom doesnt support it.
In CyanogenMod if I am not wrong ability to change tracks while long holding volUp/Down buttons is a feature of CyanogenMod itself, not the music app used.
That was very usefull to me, for example while driving home from work and listening to music via smartphone. I could just hold the volUp button to skip the annoying song. Now I cant do that. At least I havent found a way.
Anyway I will check PowerAMP. I might be wrong so it's worth a try.
Ok. This is my first time ever buying music from the PlayStore and I want to make the song I just bought into a ringtone. My problem is I don't know where the song is located. I checked all the normal storage areas and folders. I still can't seem to find it.
My noob question for the month.
Any pointers would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

i thought google play music stored the music online on its servers so you would be streaming and not playing directly from storage on device. its my guess since I dont use it bc of this idea that I have
It is stored on their servers but you can download it buy making it available off line. It's best to do it on a PC and transfer it to your device.
