it depends on kernel, whether ur kernel supports cwm or not.

then u can only use xrecovery.

Xrecovery is pretty old.. with an older kernel generally.. get another rom and kernel.. they'll most probably have cwm and a faster kernel. Try cyanogenmod based ROMs. The devs usually give kernels tweaked specifically for the ROM. And they hv cwm

I'm having the same problem as OP... had xrecovery installed a long time back and now can't install newer roms.. is there a way to wipe xrecovery to install CWM?

Read my previous post.. get a kernel which has cwm

Sorry.

I used Flashtool 0.9.9 and installed a standard GB 2.3.3 firmware build.
I then rooted the XPERIA X10i using Force ZergRush exploit.
Then I was able to installed the recovery methods of xRecovery OR CWM from Flashtool 0.9.9
I could then boot into CWM recovery mode.
I was just being curious George as I wondered if I could do it as I was trying (without success) to installed CM10 from my SDcard. (status7...another story)
I re-installed GB 2.3.3 and went back to xRecovery as that's what my backup data restores are written with.
So, maybe an option depending on requirements and environment.
I did, like right now, attempt to re-install CWM via Flashtool 0.9.9 with xRecovery active and even though it said it'd installed successfully, a reboot into recovery shows it was still xRecovery. So I would suggest, without further research that if xRecovery is installed it can't be over written with CWM via Flashtool 0.9.9 without first re-installed the firmware and starting from scratch.

Not true at all.. u just hv to use flashtool and select "boot into specific recovery" option. Both ur recoveries must be there. also, u need a cm10 specific kernel to install it.. u can't just use ur existing GB kernel with cwm recovery n expect cm10 to work..

Do I need to write this in huge black letters?
xRECOVERY CANNOT FLASH KERNELS AND BASEBANDS.
I am sorry but you are out of luck here,
you need to use FlashTool or SEUS or PC Companion to update your phone
and this thread should be closed.
Good luck!

Sad I thought recovery could flash kernels as we used to install custom kernels on 2.2 roms with the help of recovery...
I just installed a kernel using xrecovery. It just depends on how the kernel has been provided to you.
Baseband, as far as I know, is flashtool only!

Doesn't turn on

You don't using nAa kernel right? To use Mini-cm7 2.2.0 you must use naa kernel
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
Like Elwino2.3 said you need to flash the nAa kernel using flashtool.
But before that you need to unlock your bootloader than flash the kernel.
Please re-read the thread carefully where you got the MiniCm7-2.2.0 ROM.
All necessary details are provided.
Don't worry it also happened to me. I got too confident coz i had flashed many other ROM's and so i just flashed the ROM without reading the instruction.
You either use Sony Ericsson Update Service to reset your phone back to the stock sony ericsson rom or you can try to directly flash the kernel.
As for myself i used the Update Service coz i thought that it was more safe.

It's an upgrade to your current kernel, it should just flash fine and your rom should keep working.

Sure dude? Can't we upgrade replacing the ftf somewhere with shell and modifying some init config file, as we do on linux?
If not, i wonder why the MiniCM notification has the download option.

MiniCM is the ROM, not the kernel, If you have an official CM-ROM on your phone you can get OTA updates for that, but that doesn't include the kernel of your phone.
The main reason you can't update kernels without a computer is because your phone has to be in flash-mode in order to reach the parts where the kernel and loader are stored, and if your phone is in flashmode, you can't access it manually to edit anything.

Thanks. Didnt know the flashmode thing.
By the way, i know minicm is the rom, but the minicm notification has both rom and kernel (nAa kernel) update notication. It is a cm based rom.

Yes, i know minicm is cm-based, but it's an 'unofficial' port, so i'm not sure if you actually get Over-The-Air updates (where the relevant parts of the ROM are updated on the fly), or just notifications that updates are available and that you can download them from somewhere, or if you even get notifications, i haven't used it long enough to find out
I dowloaded the kernel with the notification to sd... But need flashtool anyway. Maybe it is for quick flash because don't have to visit xda thread.
Thanks for answers
that does make it a bit easier i suppose anyway, you're welcome
It is actually possible to flash kernels without a PC. It just hasn't been coded into our CWM and the correct way hasn't yet been found/added for the Mini/MiniPro. It is possible but you'd need a JTAG as you'd probably kill the phone quite a few times!

[Q] Why my recovery deletes itselfs?

Hi, im using Neo V and when I flash a new rom to try I cannot reach my recovery and I install it again. I didn't unlocked bootloader, I don't know why I can't reach my recovery after flashing a new rom but, I want to solve this problem. I'm using X-Parts to install CWM and I installed Stock ICS Recovery. There are 2 more cwm that we can select. What should I do? I don't want to install it again and again.

Recovery is located at system partition... when u install a new rom, at first u format the system partition, that’s why u have to install recovery once again after flashing rom.. A custom kernel has built in recovery, but u needs unlocked bootloader to flash custom kernels...
Like samak says^^ try unlock
Yur BL n install custom kernel
(ne suave..) they have cwm built

I don´t recommend X-Parts, it doesn´t rule for my Neo and I wanted a more actual CWM, so i use another I download wich is 5.5 (and some digits more)..(have fix permissions)

Unlock your bootloader and flash a kernel with cwm integrated.
Suave v6 and night elf 1.5 come with fix permission at cwm.

Brother, you flashed a jelly bean kernel so you can just run CyanogenMod10 based roms(android 4.1.2 roms)
If you're going to flash a gingerbread rom(CyanogenMod7) (android 2,3) you must use a gingerbread kernel like : "nAa 14 gingerbread for x10mini"
Good Luck
