Is there a way to root on this software version. If so are there downsides to running S-on like I believe most of the newer softwares are doing. Also if I plan to add a memory card to my phone should I put it in before rooting?
I know this info is probably somewhere on the forum but most of the threads I looked at are about a month old.
Thanks in advance.

Dirty racun for soff (full nand access), HTC dev unlock for unlocked bootloader, twrp for recovery and fastboot/uniflash/bootimg flasher/flash image gui for kernel. Read don't panic for a lot of info on android in general. Unlimited.io for dirty racun. Grab the ADB Tools Mini SDK

Check here
So the second post lead me to the dirty racun method and the third to the zedomax modified method. Will both get me to rooted and S-off. If I don't have S-off will I have problems with a lot of roms here because of custom baked kernels. Ie CM10?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Far and away the easiest way to flash various kernel based roms is with s-off...
Use DirtyRacun for s-off...
Because some roms will include s-on kernel flasher and some roms will require extraction and seperate flash of kernel...

So all I have is 64bit windows 7 and 8 I guess I couldn't se dirtyracun?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Do a little looking,
DirtyRacun has been used on xp-32 and win7-64,
The unlimited devs just wont give support if these used,
They said its because they have not tested with those OS's,
I figure its because they don't have computers with those OS's,
But, speculating there,
Ultimately, you have to decide how, wether to procede...
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
It's better that they limit the choice of os anyway as it makes support easier

You can use an Ubuntu 32 bit distro to run dirty racun, it runs right off a cd/dvd

Is this the software version number giving everyone the error 99? 3.16.651.3 710RD. Currently running stock Rom , rooted, and boot loader unlocked. Was wondering if Facepalm will work or have to use DirtyRacun? Just wanted to be sure, as this is only my second HTC to mess with.

Use babyracun to downgrade. Continue with dirtyracun if you want or finish with facepalm.
So the folks saying it works on 3.16, it was a previous version, right?

Well I decided to give dirtyracun a try, installing ubuntu as I type this. Doesn't seem hard at all.

I used the babyracun method using Windows 7 and then used Facepalm with no problems. You don't NEED ubuntu but that's all that those developers support.
Thanks for your help, I spent a couple of hours talking with team Unlimited in IRC as I was running DirtyRacun, got it finally, being a Ubuntu noob, I thought I would never get it. Wasn't that hard, just went ahead and finished with DirtyRacun, instead of Facepalm.

I just rooted my Jewel and the only ROM I really want to try is stable CM10. I've read everywhere since I'm s-on it may not flash correctly. Is this true? I have the lastest H Boot and firmware and have not flashed any custom ROMs yet on this phone at least. Should I just flash it or should I do something else. I would appreciate any input.

Very true. I have an FAQ post for specific questions like this. And about 2 new posts a day are asking this same question.
Latest firmware: you need to downgrade using babyracun and then S-OFF. That'll fix your every issue.
Earlier firmware: fastboot flash boot boot.img
That'll flash the kernel for S-ON and allow your ROM to boot and work.

I'll be honest I read the DirtyRacun procedures and it looks like brain surgery. Wow what happened to simple flashing without all this extras? So if I want to stay simple and keep S-On I just need to flash the boot img before or after flashing CM10? Sorry for my noobness (which I am far from) but I've been out if the rooting game for awhile. Thank you very much for the help.

HTC happened. I did babyracun and facepalm within a few minutes. Far from any type of surgery. If you want to stay S-ON then you'll just need to use ROM's that are 3.16 based. No AOSP ROM will work with the latest touchpanel firmware. So... Just S-OFF. Its easy.

I followed Step 3 on these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426377 and managed to get root after running Clockworkmod on the SuperSU.zip file that was dropped in from the RecoveryInstallerForNoobs.zip file.

Go to Cyanogen Mod official website ... You can get a whole lot information there... !!! its is the only rom which is providing jellybean 4.1.2 on AMAZE 4g
Please read the "pinned" threads located at the top of the various forums. All of the info you seek is located there. The brief reader's digest version is as follows: You need to download and have a working adb setup. You also need some drivers from the HTC website. While there you need to register as a developer and follow the instructions. If followed correctly they'll give you a binary blob that you need to push to your phone from windows to unlock your bootloader. You'll still be s-on but unlocked. Then depending on which version of the amaze you have and which version of android is currently running on it there are different procedures for attaining s-off, which is a requirement if using a non-T-Mobile US device. After you've gotten those things in order you can begin flashing.
None of this is difficult, but it does require reading on your part, and nobody here is going to hold your hand, especially if they see you haven't made any effort by at least reading the instruction threads.
Just flash the SuperSU.zip file via recovery. For some customs roms, you won't need to root your phone before flashing, your phone will automatically get root access one you flash them. All you will need is having a custom recovery .

Actually you're not quite on point. Without unlocking your bootloader you can't flash a recovery and smartflash on 4ext doesn't work properly without a working busybox and superuser. So after unlocking and flashing or pushing a superuser apk you need to also install busybox too or smartflash can't write to the protected partitions.
I think everyone knows they cannot flash a custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader first.

Your unlocked so now go in the app store and get "ROM manager" which will flash you ClockwordMod Recovery. (Easiest way IMO)
I am an idiot....I do know what I am doing but didn't realize moonshine it all in one step.
All good now...instalingl twrp
Or get Goo Manager and load TWRP

The easiest method really is to dl the Ubuntu 32 bit iso and make a bootable cd/usb of it and do moonshine from within the live portion of that iso. takes all of 30 mins and most of the time completes without issues everytime like clockwork.

Coming from a Rezound with S-OFF and unlocked bootloader, I want to be able to flash ROMs and kernels on my DNA. Do I just need to get S-OFF and then I can load custom recovery and flash whatever I want? This is what it sounds like, but just wanted to clarify. Thanks!

Can I flash a rom like AOKP via 4ext? with smart flash?
No if you have Asian amaze and if you are on GB stock Rom
And if you want to update to Ics Roms than you should perform s-off..
Bcoz you should first flash ICS firmware to do so you need s-off and than superCID

If you have the files then yes you can but do not upload them or ask for Windows files because it's disrespectful to juopunutbear developers since they no longer support windows.
They switched to Ubuntu because some people got bricked on windows. Ubuntu is safer so just use Ubuntu.

I think you can. You just have to pop in the live cd and run control bear. When s off I'd complete you can just turn off your computer, or download Ubuntu from windows (wubi install) and you can remove Ubuntu as if it were a program from windows. So even if you have to install it you can remove it fairly easily if you install ubuntu with wubi.
