What didn't work? No service with AT&T? Just data not working? With the number of people that have used it with T-Mo that get everything but data, I don't think it is SIM locked. We just need a way to add/edit the APNs, and it would be nice to enable it in Settings.

This thread is for the Galaxy S3 but I don't see why it wouldn't work for the Note 2 since we do have root.

I don't have another carriers SIM card to try it but the thread has very detailed instructions on how to add new APN's using an app from the play store.

What is APN? If we edit/change APN, does it void manufacturer warranty? New APN would work great with ATT 4G LTE?
Thank you, all

APN is access point network. Irks just a configuration that provides login details to the network. It will not void your warranty, but you will need to manually edit the APN file.

APN is pretty much your cell phone providors "SSID" for data(like with your home wireless connection). So what's happening here is someone that has a verizon phone has the APN set for Verizon by default. You take that Verizon SIM out, put an ATT in there and the phone works, but your data does not because you are on an ATT network now, but still looking for the Verizon APN. You can change it but it is usually hidden somewhere. I don't know if anyone tried to get into the programming mode of the phone yet but sometimes you can change it through there, but not sure about this phone.
It *shouldn't* void the warranty as the worse that would happen is if you fat fingered it, your data would not work, but with so many damn rules and regulations I dont know for sure.

I'm using mine on Straight Talk. I bought it unlocked tho so I'm not sure if it HAS to be unlock. The phone does not have to be rooted. The only thing you would need to do is change the APN settings for Internet and MMS to work.

It uses a regular sized SIM, does not need to be unlocked - just request the AT&T SIM from StraightTalk.

Yes, you need to use the StraightTalk APN settings - even though they can provision you on the AT&T network, they go through different APN's.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525371 has more information that you can search through.
APN configuration is done through Settings -> Wireless and networks -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names.

You didn't even need to unlock. The phone comes sim unlocked. There is a mod you need to due though to get data by adding the apn. Is In the development section.

Are you talking about switching carriers or running an AT&T rom on your Veizon phone? You can do both. If you don't want to install the mod you can always download any of the dozens of apn apps from the appstore that will do everything for you automatically. I think with the mod you have to manually enter the required values. I may be mistaken. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

There are a few different options in the Dev forum. You can add a huge list of APNs, enable the APN editor, or both. You'll also likely want to use the modded file to disable the non-VZW SIM warning though if you do use another carrier. However, you only really need root to be able to input APN data I believe.
Seems like alot is involved. Basically the verizon note2 sim is unlocked. But in order for me to go to another carrier like AT&T, I would have to do number of things.

Just root and update the APNs. You're going to have to update the APNs if you use any carrier besides VZW on the phone.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S 4 SCH-I545

I have recently ended a 2 year contract with Verizon and I am wanting to go to a different carrier. What carrier could I go to with this phone with a sim card? Thanks

at&t would be the only one with close coverage to Verizon anyone else would be a hood rat cell phone that works in the city but everywhere its garbage. (unlimited data on non LTE carriers is a waste because its so slow and unreliable)

Yes.
Perhaps you could read one of the dozens of other threads where this has already been asked and answered?
There are several threads on using the I545 on T-Mobile and AT&T, which discuss the issues with different LTE bands, etc.
The I545 isn't SIM-locked, so you can use what you want, but if your new carrier doesn't share frequencies with Verizon, then you find it hard to find service.
Its worked for me on Straight talk. The problem i'm having is no mms picture, just text...I double checked my APN settings with no luck. Any suggestions ?

It's getting to be time for a sticky about this. Search the forums for "Straight Talk" - using their SIMs is pretty easy.
The Verizon Galaxy S4 is not SIM locked. Install the SIM, set the APN, and done.

I'm not sure how to respond to this, but here's a try.
You change from one carrier (Verizon is a carrier) to another (Straight Talk is another carrier) by removing the Verizon SIM from your phone and installing a Straight Talk SIM into your phone. A "SIM" is a Subscriber Identity Module that tells your phone what carrier to use and what your phone number is.
You asked about unlocking. You don't have to, since the phone will accept a SIM from any carrier.
For data to work, your phone has to be configured to use your new carrier's network. That's configured by setting up the Access Point Name corresponding to that new carrier.
The "Search" suggestion was because there's already an active thread in this forum discussing using Straight Talk on the I545. Since this is not a tutorial site, you should follow that thread and ask questions there.

I couldn't have explained it better myself. Alot of people get so grumpy about "noobs" coming in and asking questions.
+1 to you for not chewing him out for asking a noob question.
At Least he put it in the Q&A section though not in a general or dev. thread right...

Straight Talk Wireless uses the AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint networks. You want to check with Verizon to see if you can register your phone with Straight Talk using the Verizon network. Just go to the Straight Talk Wireless web site.
You’ll enter your phone’s serial number and your location and check if it is possible to transfer your phone to Straight Talk. I have never used a Verizon phone on Straight Talk. They also use the Sprint network. You might want to confirm with Straight Talk support that they won’t register your phone on the Sprint network. I looked it up, your phone should be a SCH-I545 model, which I doesn’t look like its compatible with Sprint. You can call them and ask.
I’ll also mention that as far as I know the Straight Talk’s Verizon network is 3G only, not 4G LTE. Supposedly, Verizon doesn’t allow any of the prepaid cellular services to use their LTE network. If you get 4G LTE service where you live on Verizon, you may notice a difference in data speeds. If your S4 is still active on Verizon, install the SpeedTest app, and see what types of data speeds you are getting on Verizon.
You don’t need a SIM card to use your phone on Straight Talk. In the US, we use two different cellular technologies: CDMA and GSM. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. Since there is not AT&T service where you live it doesn’t matter but If you want to use a Verizon phone on the AT&T or T-Mobile network your phone model needs to be compatible with the network you want to use it on and the phone needs to be SIM unlocked.
You might want to take a look at Verizon prepaid as well.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions or need more help. I’d also love to hear how it works out for you.

Verizon Galaxy S6 edge plus w/ T-Mobile sim card

So I am currently in possession of a Verizon branded S6 edge+ which I am planning to use with TMo, as far as the XDA community I've seen this subsection as well as subsections for the different carries ex. TMo S6 edge+, Verizon S6 edge+ etc I was wondering what the difference was, also was wondering which ssection, my guess is the Verizon subsection as the phone's innards are specific to Verizon's version but I'm just asking before I get Into the rooting (rather be safe than sorry)
Also has any one else done this? Is there any discrepancy with the signal or anything else?
Any help would greatly be appreciated, thanks

You can't root the Verizon variant of the Edge +. It's impossible. KNOX will hard brick the phone if it detects the /system partition is modified in any way.

working absolutely fine.
Only issue is Verizon S6 edge+ doesn't not use Band 12 which TMobile uses.
So in other words, if you using DATA and phone call comes in, you will loose data, once phone call drop your data is back again.
and you can use 4G not LTE on tmobile network.
Thats my experience.
Thanks,

Right now I have AOJ2. The updates for me anyways, have to be done manually. I get both wifi and t-mobile 4G service. What t-mobile APN are you using? I have the fast.t-mobile.com one set.
Does the tmobile sim your using work in any other phones for tmobile or any other. You may need to reactivate the tmobile sim because all verizon phones come with the gsm part unlocked for voice from Verizon so If the sim is valid it should work on voice right away.
Check your advanced calling settings. Im on vzw so i use the advanced calling option for hd voice and hd video over 4g lte so you might have to disable that. Also is the sim card your using work in tmobile lte service or just 3g?
To date has anyone figured out a way to root the Verizon variant of the s6 edge+? I'm currently using on net10 with android 5.1.1

It's impossible. KNOX prevents root. Locked bootloader. Even if you enable "OEM Unlock" in developer options, it still bricks the device and tells you that you warranty is void and you need to buy a new phone.
