How to go back to stock - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I recently rooted my device so I could unlock it, but found out that it was blocked, so I took it to a phone shop, I got it unblocked and a new imei number, the phone isn't rooted anymore but still says modified
I want to go to stock, how would I do that?
I also want to know when I go back to stock, will the phone get blocked again and imei go back to the blocked one
Thx in advance

don't you read the above 2 post ???

Try the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" in the Samsung KIES. It will reset everything according to your serial number provided.
However, I don't know whether it is helpful to you because I didn't experience the same before.

Your phone sounds stolen. You changed the imei, which is illegal and its against xda rules.

Pretty much any method is fairly streamline now. There's a root toolkit that does all the work for you, all you have to do is enter in a number that relates to the command when you run it. Be certain you are using the proper root method for your carrier and follow all instructions carefully.
Tripping the flash counter happens when you flash your recovery via odin. It triggers the built in counter in download mode to show that you have "tampered" with the device, and therefor can be refused warranty work. To avoid this, use either ADB through command line, or terminal emulator.

I agree that there is a lot of posts all over the place but to all fairness, there is posts in this same section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722344 that shows you exactly what to do to root.
I agree that you NEED TO READ. If you aren't willing to do the research you're going to have an expensive brick instead of an amazing phone running Jelly Bean roms or whatever you choose.
Also, don't just rely on one thread. Read multiple so you see opinions and suggestions.

Don't think it matters if you trip the flash counter any more there's an app to get rid of it Triangle Away. Also be careful many people have Lost there Imei# and now have a very expensive mp3 player. Might be a good idea to wait until they figure out how to back up imei first.

I literally got my phone, read here for 30 min and had a rooted phone in 45 after the phone arrived. Bottom line is u didn't read. Don't give me that shot that there are so many threads. Check the stickies. It's right there man. Sorry to be a ****, but I can't stand lazy people.

I think it's funny how quick everyone is to tell people to read - When there are likely many threads that you've started that a google search could've solved in 5 minutes. He had plenty of other questions that had nothing to do with how to root his device. Yes reading can help solve most of his issues, but when you have the possibility of turning a 600$ phone completely worthless, it doesn't hurt to ask questions.
Really, get over yourselves.
Good call I have spent probably a week reading not only this forum but others as well and find numerous conflicting methods for rooting. There's nothing wrong with asking that's why there's a questions forum to begin with.

It is pretty straight forward. Make sure you have the drivers installed before rooting. In short, follow the instructions to the point. If you are worried about tripping your flash counter, there is a specific root method you follow. If you do not care, then you can use the tool kit. If you look through the posts in the development section, you will easily find it. PM me if you need help.
When I plug my phone into computer it finds my device drivers. Will that work or do I have to download them from the link provided?

You can software update your S3 as long as you have stock recovery. But you will lose root. You could update then reroot.

I wanna know the same thing.. woke up to it this morning. Great question.
No one is asking you to update to kitkat, that version is not released by Samsung for the S3.
Only way to update if you are rooted is flashing or kies.
It's all in the general forum, sticky threads, go read and learn.

so instead of giving the answer or assisting, you waste just as much time explaining to us the search feature.. obviously he wouldn't ask if he knew what to do. get off your high horse.. jesus. I woke up with this morning with my phone asking me if i wanted to update to 4.3... so technically it is asking you to do something.. and if you read the question correctly he asked what would happen to his phone not how to go about updating..
You both need to read and learn instead of asking for an easy answer, which won't help you if you brick it through ignorance. You need to follow xda rules, search before posting.

How to make sure the IMEI of my S3 is legit

Hey guys,
I've recently bought the S3 from someone (2nd hand).
I would like to know if the IMEI of the device is legit and that it wasn't tempered with so i could in the future upgrade to JB..
can you help me out ?
Thanks in advance
Mike.
Firstly welcome to XDA.
Secondly, why do you think it isn't legal? At the top of this forum are some stickies which are available all the time for you to use. They cover a wide range of topics that are relevant to your new phone, not sure about imei number though!
Check out those stickies and hopefully most of your questions will be answered.

You really helped him.... Noot
You could check on sites like this if it was stolen:
http://www.amta.org.au/pages/amta/Check.the.Status.of.your.Handset
To check if imei is changed is almost impossible on phone itself. But if you got papers from first buyer then on bill and on box should you find imei.
But would help if you tell your country.

ask him for the box or receipt.
kies, using the serial number and imei you can see if it exists and if it's related to any specific carrier

[Q] GSM locked problems

Hi there.
I recently purchased an Galaxy S3 - i9300 from a guy and it's giving me headaches please help guys.
It was on Stock ICS 4.0.4 and working all good.
Once I flashed it with Stock JB 4.1.2 I couldn't make any more phone calls nor SMS ( GSM wasnt working). However data connection was working (I could go on WhatsApp, Skype etc).
I did a bit of research and it just turns out I bought a phone that was GSM locked. The IMEI it had before I flashed it wasn't the original IMEI and somehow it worked. Now that I flashed it with Stock JB I think it reset the IMEI back to the original one.
I know talking about IMEI change is forbidden to some extend but my question is this :
- Is there anyway for me to get my phone unlocked with the current original IMEI on Stock JB ?
- Would flashing a Stock Rom from a specific region solve the problem ? I flashed the first rom in this link from the forum, the one from Singapore - Asia.
- If not, what is the appropriate course of action here ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm from South Africa and my carrier is Cell C.
Thanks.
Sure there should be a website to check if a phone is imei blocked. If so its an expensive paperweight...that is it.
Keep it legal.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
If data connection is working then perhaps it's not a problem due to IMEI?
Could it be SMS setting error?

OP would be very grateful for your advice, but could you follow it by yourself?
@OP: it seems to me that you have bought a phone from guy, who previously claimed it as stolen, or from the thief himself.
You have two options:
1. return the phone directly, kindly kicking his smartass;
2. return the phone via police claiming that you are the fraud victim.
