Hey guys,
I've recently bought the S3 from someone (2nd hand).
I would like to know if the IMEI of the device is legit and that it wasn't tempered with so i could in the future upgrade to JB..
can you help me out ?
Thanks in advance
Mike.
Firstly welcome to XDA.
Secondly, why do you think it isn't legal? At the top of this forum are some stickies which are available all the time for you to use. They cover a wide range of topics that are relevant to your new phone, not sure about imei number though!
Check out those stickies and hopefully most of your questions will be answered.
Have fun with your new toy

You really helped him.... Noot
You could check on sites like this if it was stolen:
http://www.amta.org.au/pages/amta/Check.the.Status.of.your.Handset
To check if imei is changed is almost impossible on phone itself. But if you got papers from first buyer then on bill and on box should you find imei.
But would help if you tell your country.

ask him for the box or receipt.
kies, using the serial number and imei you can see if it exists and if it's related to any specific carrier

OK this is what I do with all my phones I buy 2nd hand....call Att or your carrier and give them the imei number that's under the battery...tell em that you are buying it from someone and u wanna make sure that its not blacklisted ...
2nd , press *#06# on the dialer and compare the imei number with the number under the battery
I actually got my s3 with a messed up imei ...either that or I messed it up on my first flash idk..fixed it with the tool here on xda and I'm up and running with full data speeds and works like a charm now

What tool did you use to correct/change your IMEI?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
You are only checking to see if the imei is correct right?
If so, dial *#06#, then check if it's the same one on the sticker on the back of the phone.

hy...i have a problem.how did you restored your IMEI???plss help.
Stupid to hijack a very old thread that has nothing to do with your question.
Restore IMEI is as per XDA flashing rule two backup your EFS .
So simply restore your backed up EFS .
No backup service centre is your next step .

Hey everyone.
I have the Canadian SGH-I747M model S3 from Bell Canada.
I try'd to use the Network Lock status code to see about SIM locks and *#7465625# doesn't work. Appearently it works for teh AT&T model I747 though so what does this mean? Is my phone completed unlocked and locks were never even setup at the factory to begin with or is there something else going on?
I try'd asking in the AT&T section Q&A but my question fell on def ears no one knows/cares.
Thanks.
Code works fine on international model.
Appears you device model just doesn't support the code.

No problem.
Sorry for a lowly User answering your question.
As I said, obviously the code doesn't work for your device model. Your model is not the international I9300, so your posting on the wrong forum anyway....
Maybe change your title to "Devs need only reply"
Edit: you didn't mention you new the code works for the international version, that's why I included the screenshot of what to expect.

You miss understand me.
I ment a dev or someone with more in dept knowledge as to why the code is not working such as the possibility of being with out any locks or something other then "oh well it just doesnt work with yours" not helpful . I also mentioned that the AT&T I747 model works with the code and it is the exact same phone hardware wise, only difference is slight changes in firmware by the carriers.
I have already said I asked in that sections Q&A and got no where, and so I am here looking for someone more experianced, I came here because the more experianced devs and knowledgeable people work on the international model.
Theres no need to be rude.
On the contrary mate, I deemed your response to be rude :banghead: We're all here to help each other
As I said, you never mentioned that you knew the code worked on our model ! Otherwise why I would post the screenshot?
Learn to be more specific in your posts buddy, then you'll maybe get the answer you need, and without wasting users time.
Sorry for not being off any help
Peace

Hi guys
I recently rooted my device so I could unlock it, but found out that it was blocked, so I took it to a phone shop, I got it unblocked and a new imei number, the phone isn't rooted anymore but still says modified
I want to go to stock, how would I do that?
I also want to know when I go back to stock, will the phone get blocked again and imei go back to the blocked one
Thx in advance

Try the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" in the Samsung KIES. It will reset everything according to your serial number provided.
However, I don't know whether it is helpful to you because I didn't experience the same before.

Hi there.
I recently purchased an Galaxy S3 - i9300 from a guy and it's giving me headaches please help guys.
It was on Stock ICS 4.0.4 and working all good.
Once I flashed it with Stock JB 4.1.2 I couldn't make any more phone calls nor SMS ( GSM wasnt working). However data connection was working (I could go on WhatsApp, Skype etc).
I did a bit of research and it just turns out I bought a phone that was GSM locked. The IMEI it had before I flashed it wasn't the original IMEI and somehow it worked. Now that I flashed it with Stock JB I think it reset the IMEI back to the original one.
I know talking about IMEI change is forbidden to some extend but my question is this :
- Is there anyway for me to get my phone unlocked with the current original IMEI on Stock JB ?
- Would flashing a Stock Rom from a specific region solve the problem ? I flashed the first rom in this link from the forum, the one from Singapore - Asia.
- If not, what is the appropriate course of action here ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm from South Africa and my carrier is Cell C.
Thanks.
Sure there should be a website to check if a phone is imei blocked. If so its an expensive paperweight...that is it.
Keep it legal.

If data connection is working then perhaps it's not a problem due to IMEI?
Could it be SMS setting error?
Because I have come across very same problem on a Galaxy Ace which phone call, data connection, all work except SMS can't receive and send...

OP would be very grateful for your advice, but could you follow it by yourself?
@OP: it seems to me that you have bought a phone from guy, who previously claimed it as stolen, or from the thief himself.
You have two options:
1. return the phone directly, kindly kicking his smartass;
2. return the phone via police claiming that you are the fraud victim.
Here is the problem. I messed up with /efs folder.I didnot have a backup of that even
What happened after that is smthin really scary.
My IMEI number changed. Its 004999010640000/01. As it is not the one written on the phone stamp.
My S/N number changed to 00000000000. Which is again nt the one on the phone stamp.
I am getting smthin like ( yellow rext on black Patch ) .on my home screen. which is staying there continuously. Please see the screenshot attached
For the background the phone was bought in singapore.
Immediate help will be appreciated.
If you don't have a backup of your efs folder its off to the service center for a motherboard replacement for you.

Maybe you can get hold of another SIII, extract the EFS folder and inject/replace your individual data. Just a wild guess though...

No. IMEI cloning is illegal and it's not a topic discussed on XDA..
EFS is device specific.

That would he illegal in most countries because it allows you to get round network blocks on stolen devices.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Whatever...
Another attempt would be to dd the partition and open it up with Winhex (forensic tool) or anything similar to analyze the ext4 partition for deleted/unallocated data. Maybe you can recover something.
